Hoekstra’s Office: He’s Seen Documents That Prove Pelosi Was Briefed On Waterboarding
GOP Rep. Pete Hoekstra is upping the stakes of the torture fight in response to Nancy Pelosi’s claims that she wasn’t briefed on the use of waterboarding.
His office tells me that he’s seen documents that will prove this isn’t true.
Hoekstra spokesperson Jamal Ware says that Hoekstra is now seeking the release of the memos and notes that comprised the basis of the documents that came out today that claimed Dems had been briefed on enhanced interrogation techniques.
“He has seen documents that would clarify exactly what the Speaker was briefed on,” Ware tells me, “including whether she was briefed on all enhanced interrogation techniques that had been used.”
Asked if those techniques included waterboarding, Ware replied: “Yes.”
That ups the ante considerably. Pelosi has responded to the controversy by saying she was not told that waterboarding, the harshest and most controversial of the techniques involved, has been used. As I noted earlier today, the documents released do not prove that Pelosi was briefed on the use of waterboarding, and the CIA says it can’t promise that the info in the docs is accurate.
But now Hoekstra’s office says there’s more to come that will settle this. So stay tuned.
Separately, TPM reports that today’s documents show clearly that Senator John D. Rockefeller was extensively briefed on waterboarding.

I am with you on that. However the problem for Hoekstra is that the documents in question are still at the moment classified and he has is flack out basically describing the contents of said top secret documents. For one its unfair because those documents may never be released (if they even exist) and in the meantime Hoekstra is allowed to smear Nancy Pelosi. For two if something it top secret that means its illegal to talk about it. Thats why I said on the other thread that it might be good to see just what the rules are and were for the gang of 8 and the gang of 4 when it comes to being able to talk about the briefings.
This is why we need a Special Prosecutor. Otherwise it’s going to be selective declassification in a never-ending PR war.

I love how Pelosi’s defenders like to say “that’s classified” when Obamalala already declassified the most damaging documents which WILL adversely impact our ability to wage this war on global terrorism. Once you have chosen to go down this road for purely partisan political reasons we need to see all the documents so we can make a real determination. The way I see it, the former president made his decision and has been unapologetic and up front about it all. Pelosi on the other hand is lying about her involvement and if anybody should be prosecuted it should be the liars – everything else is just a disagreement about policy.
A special prosecutor to prosecute….what and whom?
Are there crimes being alleged (or even suspected) here against anybody, including Speaker Pelosi? Not that I’ve seen. And I’m guessing we won’t see any, either.
Pelosi may well lose her job over this. She apparently lied about this and shame on her for doing so. But lying (while not under oath) isn’t criminal. If it was, a whole lot of elected officials would be in prison.

I think he could have successfully fought off that lawsuit on national security grounds. You are the uninformed buffoon here. The bottom line is that there is an effort to release only the information that makes the Obama Administration look good and it is being done regardless of the potential consequences. The cat is out of the bag now and it is time to see everything and let the chips fall where they may. I think this will blow up in the face of the administration and the Democrats because don’t underestimate how many Americans support what was done back in the days following 9/11. Do we really need to have another attack so we can truly understand the nature of the enemies and the threats we face? I think too many people have forgotten and that includes people like Obama and Pelosi. I have no trust they will keep us safe in the future because for the politics trumps common sense.

Here is a news flash, Dick Cheney himself admits that waterboarding didn’t happen after 2003. So explain it to yourself if not to me how waterboarding people kept us safe in the ensuing 6 years. TheraP: Word up. Or however you say it. Investigate, and just maybe we can get rid of some of the “Everybody knows Pelosi has been lying about everything” comments. Or maybe some of the “Everybody knows Bush and Cheney lied” comments, depending on what the investigation reveals.
A lot of this is distraction — let’s not talk about whether waterboarding is torture is illegal; let’s talk about what Pelosi knew — but I’d like to know which of our leaders knew what when. That’s part of how we can form meaningful opinions about them.

Who says water-boarding is the harshest method? Personally I think the stress positions coupled to cold/heat and sleep deprivation are far worse forms of torture, but that’s a personal opinion with no expertise on these matters.

Boy did Obama step in the poo when he released the OLC memos. This has been Amateur hour from beginning to end. Everyone knows the close relationship the ACLU has with Soros and the Democrat party. Those memos were released because he wanted them released. He thought he could give a little payback to Cheney for saying that America was not as safe.
And what is the sum gain?
The congressional leaders of his party are revealed to be liars and hypocrites. The American public thinks it was a bad move to release national security secrets, and DO NOT want hearings. Our allies think he’s weak and foolish. The CIA is completely demoralized. And Cheney will be able to release the memo showing just what the CIA was able to prevent using EI.
