RNC Won’t Say Whether They Agree Or Disagree With Cheney’s Terror Comments About Obama

Do Michael Steele and the Republican National Committee — the center of the party’s political operation — agree or disagree with Dick Cheney’s claim that the Obama administration is more concerned with protecting terrorists’ rights than protecting Americans?

The RNC won’t say.

Earlier this afternoon, I asked RNC spokesperson Jon Thompson whether Steele and the RNC agree with Cheney’s assertion in an interview with The Politico that the new administration is “more concerned about reading the rights to an Al Qaeda terrorist than they are with protecting the United States.”

Cheney also characterized the new administration’s approach as “turning the other cheek.”

After promising to look into it, the RNC spokesperson didn’t reply to repeated efforts to follow up.

Here’s why this question is a valid one to pose to the RNC. Cheney’s comments are about something larger than just Cheney’s opinions. They represent what may be an emerging GOP political strategy right now to lay the groundwork in advance to blame Obama, should there be another attack. After all, former Bush speechwriter Marc Thiessen recently said that if there were another attack, “Americans will hold Obama responsible.”

The RNC, again, is the GOP’s central political operation, and it will largely set the political tone of the party going forward. And new chairman Steele has pledged that the GOP will become a “new party” that will move in “a new direction.”

So it’s fair to ask whether Steele countenances Cheney’s approach to national security politics, which the GOP pursued for the last seven years, or whether he’ll break with that approach. For now, the RNC is not saying.

Dick Cheney is a slithering coward of the lowest order, and he has done irreparable harm to our country. I think that ******* WANTS another terrorist attack. You see, the GOP is no longer a conservative party. It is a fascist party, and they care for nothing other than gaining and wielding power.

Censorship of comments? Nice. Kiss my ***.

  3. Greg Sargent | February 4th, 2009 at 07:40 pm

well, a screen on curses — not censorship, I hope…

  4. Janice K | February 4th, 2009 at 07:42 pm

    The only reason they don’t want to say a word, is they know who orchastrated the last “terrorist” attack. C H E N E Y & B U S H.

Hang ‘em high. If we charged to attend a public lynching of these two, we could solve the economy problem, couldn’t we?

  5. Susan J. | February 4th, 2009 at 07:42 pm

Mike: Cheney doesn’t WANT another terrorist attack, he wants to CAUSE one, considering the blood money on his hands from 9/11. Who profited most? It was Das Cheney Fuhrer, in charge of the ‘war’ games that day, down in his bunker orchestrating the whole thing. He even had Bush write an executive order giving Cheney full control of NORAD.

  6. AB | February 4th, 2009 at 08:00 pm

They have not replied to you inquiry because they need time to consult with Rush Limbaugh.

I would also like to know what Steele and the RNC think about a bill in South Carolina that will make “Confederate Day” a state holiday. They want the people of South Carolina to celebrate the confederacy with a paid day off for government workers.

Cheny is grasping at straws and using the fear factor to extend his controlling and unconstitutional agenda. Get a life Cheny, your fear mongering rhetoric doesn’t work in the age of enlightenment. Your power and influence is diminished. Move on, find some other ignorant fools to swallow your hate mongering ****. Maybe a different approach is more effective. Now who’s afraid?

  8. Tim | February 4th, 2009 at 08:11 pm

I hear the sound of bleating sheep.

  9. nahummer | February 4th, 2009 at 08:17 pm

No! The devil walks again and he’s still spewing the same venom of hate and fear. What a shock, his party is sliding into irrelevancy and this is all he can come up with? I expect so much more from evil Dick.

  10. nahummer | February 4th, 2009 at 08:18 pm

wow! you can’t write Dick on hear. Should we refer to him as satan?

  11. hbeachrealist | February 4th, 2009 at 08:23 pm

What the heck is this great website! I got linked here by the Huffington Post. Anyone posts that link Cheney and Bush to 9/11 get deleated real ****ing quick!

  12. hbeachrealist | February 4th, 2009 at 08:26 pm

What I meant in my hurry is that on the “Huffington Post” website, if anyone posts a comment that links Cheney/Bush to their involvement in 9/11, that post will be deleted in minutes.

With any luck, Cheney and his puppet Bush will be indicted for war crimes in the international court at the Hague. And, hopefully Holder will do his job and go after Tricky Dick and Monkey-Boy George and bring charges against them for gross and egregious violations of the constitution, which they have absolutely done. The argument that they kept us safe is one of the sickest arguments that one cane make. Repugs have no shame and no humility. Now, because they do not want to see the Democrats and Obama succeed, they will vote against the stimulus because they fear that if the stimulus works, they will never regain power. They criticize the bill and only offer more tax cuts for their rich friends. They say they are for the people, but they are only for themselves. Tax cuts are what got us into this mess. One last thing…the argument that Obama is a socialist because he wants to “redistribute wealth” by allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire and give tax to the middle class is also an idiotic argument. Cutting taxes for the rich is also a redistribution of wealth. The wealth is just redistributed up, which as all of us working people can see, worked so well. So by their own argument (more tax cuts for the rich), Bush and all who support him are also socialists.

Cheney is and has been unhinged since he took office. Why do the Republicans all sound the same? Disgusting hate.

  15. Carrie | February 4th, 2009 at 09:24 pm

Oh NOW he decides to talk to the public… Where was he the previous 8 years? JUST GO AWAY…..

  16. Julie | February 4th, 2009 at 09:49 pm

Whew, I feel better now, we’re safe. Darth has prognosticated once again. Consider his track record – Cheney’s been wrong about everything else – wmd’s, being greeted as liberators, on and on.

I’ll bet Steele is waiting to consult with Joe the Plumber before he issues a formal statement.

  17. Joseph | February 4th, 2009 at 10:04 pm

My God, I thought we were rid of the evil, scheming little troll that got no less than 5 deferments to avoid the military and Viet Nam, yet relished sending off our nations young men and women to die in a war in which he lied and twisted the reasons for. Cheney should be in prison.

  18. Opygirl | February 4th, 2009 at 10:18 pm

Cheney’s cohort in his evil doings was not Bush. It was a retired army general by the name of Jack Keane, he was the puppet master who designed the invasion, the lies, the faked documents, etc. Right now, Keane is working on a media blitz against President Obama because he will not back down on bringing the troups home. Gates, Keane and Patraes had a meeting with Obama saying they had a way to stall getting out of Iraq. Obama said no, they were to be taken out now. —– What they are planning is tatamount to a military coup. These ppl are dangerous. Cheney is prob part of it. This is gonna get dirty Im afraid.

  19. E Joyce | February 4th, 2009 at 10:22 pm

Wonder why Cheney would make such a comment with the dogs getting a little closer to him and more calls for justice loom ahead for him, as well as Bush? Perhaps the answers are in those boxes he did not want anyone to move for him. Oh wait, maybe those boxes held his share of the $7.9 Billion cash that was “lost”.

  20. hmmmmmer | February 4th, 2009 at 10:44 pm

Dr. Strangelove is creepy, scary, really a type of monster that makes babies cry.

  21. Oval Nowhere | February 4th, 2009 at 11:49 pm

Did anyone, left or right, ever think that Cheney really cares about anything other than what is in his neo-con mind? America without his ideology is dross, he persists to believe.

  22. Carrie | February 5th, 2009 at 12:13 am

And one more thing… If I didn’t know better I’d think Cheney concocted that excuse about hurting his back so he wouldn’t have to stand up and show any respect to the new incoming administration. He could barely hide his contempt.

  23. Tim | February 5th, 2009 at 08:34 am

It seems that most people don’t want to even THINK about the possibility that representatives of their government, at the highest levels, were responsible for crimes against their own people. With so much evidence that points to that possibility, noone has seriously considered looking into it objectively. Yeah, just sit back, watch TV, drive those SUV’s and shop at those malls while those murderers treat us like so much fodder. Let’s, please, follow the evidence to where it leads, no matter how much it might hurt in the short term. Justice demands it, and so should we.

  24. TomInJax | February 5th, 2009 at 08:45 am

    “The only reason they don’t want to say a word, is they know who orchastrated the last “terrorist” attack. C H E N E Y & B U S H.”

That’s giving Bush way to much credit. Now the PNAC (Project for a New American Century) crowd, which includes Cheney, Rumsfeld, Jeb Bush, Wolfowitz, and their mouth piece Bill Kristol, might be another story. Seeing as they were architects of the Iraq war.

  25. Char59 | February 5th, 2009 at 08:55 am

    Comment by Carrie,

Carrie I agree with you, I thought the same thing. Cheney hurting his back at that time was just too coincidental. Also, has anyone noticed that the Repugs and especially Fox News refuse to say PRESIDENT Obama, but still call him Barack, Obama, Mr. Clean or the one. Last night one of the Repugs still called him Senator. They cannot even respect themselves enough to say President Obama. Go Figure!

    greetings from finland!!!
i am afraid that if the american people wont open their
eyes, regarding i.e 9\11 there is going to be a massive
loss of life, again. i have to agree with tim on this,it looks like the truth is not getting thru to normal americans, which are great folks i might add.you really have to think about who benefits from these kind of disasters, its not the first time that this happens,ww1,ww2,vietnam and now afghanistan and irak/n.although i am not american,i am definetly worried that these kind of idiots like bush, have so much power and seems like they can do what they want.do the research people
check out grandpa bush, what he did.

  27. flossophy | February 5th, 2009 at 02:23 pm

I love all you bush/cheney haters… you’ve completely fallen for the propaganda that they’ve somehow trampled on your civil liberties. Meanwhile, here we have a president that wishes to tell wall street how much money they can make in salary, tell the car companies what to do, and perhaps re-tool something like the Fairness Doctrine…

You haters haven’t seen anything yet.

  28. DPie | February 5th, 2009 at 04:06 pm

Umm, flossophy, i probably should not even stoop to reply to you you poor thing but the execs at those “wall street” corporations whose income President Obama would like to cap work for companies that have received billions in public money. Cheney’s not long for this. It will be the first major American crucifixion of the viral age. The world will watch as we try our most powerful corrupt former leaders. The greatest investigative journalist of his generation will expose Cheney and the core neocon violators so empirically the flood will start from there. Obama will prosecute his distant, distant cousin due to public outcry and Skull and Bones will never be the same.

This is also how the GOP as we know it bleeds out and dies, it’s carcass abandoned.

My friend on Facebook shared this link with me and I’m not dissapointed that I came to your blog.

  32. Melissa | May 10th, 2009 at 06:09 am

I can’t believe most of you bloggers continue to exude Bush-Cheney-hating rhetoric, the hateful bashing is nothing more than the arrogant Liberals’ ‘if it feels good, just do it, and if you have a problem in society, blame someone else.’ The ICC should be dismantled; it completely interferes with the natural diplomacy that should take place between states. I completely agree with Cheney, Obama spends far too much time trying to gain popularity with foreign nations than worrying about the safety of the American people. The Obama Administration should have let General Motors and all those ailing banks to burn down in shambles and allowed competitors to step up and fill in the gap. Now, I won’t be surprised when we reach a state of hyper-inflation in the next 3 to 5 years… heck, we’d be lucky if we bought a pizza slice for 3k $. I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up living under martial law and living in a barter system. A degree in History, Political Science, Math, etc, won’t help any us survive in such a system. We’d be lame ducks. Obama is extremely idealistic, and ridiculously delusional. Soft power might gain us a few friends but it won’t stop terrorist attacks and wars. It certainly won’t stop Iran or N. Korea from attacking us if they feel like it.
