Dem Mail: Scott Brown Wants Hospitals To Turn Away All Rape Victims

This is absolutely brutal: Massachusetts Dems have dropped a mail piece accusing GOP Senate candidate Scott Brown of wanting hospitals to turn away “all” rape victims.

The mail piece — sent over by the Brown campaign — shows pictures of women who are supposed to have been raped, one of them in a wheelchair bent over with her head in her hands. It says: “1,736 WOMEN WERE RAPED IN MASSACHUSETTS IN 2008. SCOTT BROWN WANTS HOSPITALS TO TURN THEM ALL AWAY.”

The mailer — paid for by the Massachusetts Democratic Party — says the claim is based on “a law to let emergency hospitals turn away rape victims in need of emergency contraception.” That appears to be a reference to a Brown-sponsored 2005 amendment that would have exempted hospital personnel, on religious grounds, to inform victims of the availability of the morning after pill.

As Coakley’s own Web site says, after Brown’s amendment was rejected, he voted in favor of the bill to require emergency rooms to provide rape victims with emergency contraceptives, and the whole debate seems to be more nuanced than the mailer suggests.

The mailer could be related to the fact that internal Dem polling reportedly shows Coakley under-performing with less-affluent women.

Update: Scott Brown and Republicans attack the Coakley campaign over the mailer.

  • Coakley and the Dems are going to have their *** handed to them on Tuesday. It will be a double whammy since they will lose Tuesday’s election and future elections by further separating themselves from the independents in swing states that steer the electoral college. Independents don’t like the blue blooded arrogant East Coast Libs making fun of “trucks”. May sound good in MA and CA but not in middle America.

  • What’s important for Americans to recognize is that the right wing has put forward a sleazy con-artist in Republican Scott Brown, he’s voted to deny rape victims Medical services and he’s against helping disaster recovery workers.

While those things illustrate Republican Scott Brown’s callousness, it’s important to also note that he’s a complete shill working for the Corporate Banksters even while he’s associated himself with the extremist Tea Party movement.

Republican Scott Brown even mocked the President’s MOTHER and suggested the current President is a b@stard, which says a lot about more than just Scott Brown’s lack of character, but more importantly, it says what kind of malicious people the right wing reward.

  • The people who put out this mailer are despicable, lying cowards.

  • Btw… News — thanks for the liberal use of bold text & capitals. It helps us weed out your idiotic, repetitive & fact-free posts more easily.

  • This is despicable and shows how disgusting Democrats and their views really are.

Democrats want the elderly to die… Proof is in their death panels. This probably isn’t true but I’m running with it now after seeing this ad.

  • Republican Scott Brown is a pathological LIAR:

Right wingers with any integrity won’t support him.

Republican Scott Brown even has to pay people to pretend to be his supporters.

  • People of Massachusetts: This woman is your Attorney General???? Hopefully, changing THAT will be your next mission.

  • I heard Scott Brown also likes to eat babies and kill endagered polar bears with lightning bolts from his as*. They can add that to their next mailer… people will probably believe that too.

  • We should admit the obvious. This race is not Brown vs Coakley, it is Brown vs Obama. It isn’t clear yet, but I like Brown’s chances. fd

  • So far the President has an average of .000 in helping get victory. NJ and VA gubenatorial races, GW Summit, Olympics in Chicago. . . I guess it’s possible he could get this one.

However, even a narrow victory for Coakley/Obama is still a victory for the rest of us because all of them will have to be on their toes, focused more on their constituency instead of ramming through garbage we don’t want!

  • I makes one wonder if Coakley had morons like News Reference working for her. As a Democrat from Pennsylvania I would never want News Reference arguing my side of any argument.

  • Just checked out the MA weather tomorrow. It will be a mix of rain and snow. The average Coakley demotivated voter will stay home and the average Brown voter will walk through a blizzard barefoot to vote for Brown. Brown by 9 unless ACORN is counting the votes. God Bless the USA!!

  • As an outsider but a close follower of this race I am amazed at the hate and venom spewed forth by either side. How can we expect our representatives to bebalanced and structured when we ourselves are so divisive. This is politics and I get it, but I am not so sure the participants in this dialog do!

  • FYI. There are a lot of New Jersey Democrats that are sorry now. NJ’s financial weakness sapped energy but one must go on faith to the polls. Yes,I live in NJ and I understand what went wrong here. All Federal support to states including NJ stopped. When real estate taxes, high in good times, remained high in bad times, it is a disaster. Gov Corzine’s was not able to clarify the true picture of NJ’s financial woes caused the discontent at the polls. Problem solved with a change in the Govenor? Not at all. Problem started with a Republican and people forgot that fact. As my mother used to say, “think long, think wrong”. Go vote and work from within. I hope sgwhiteinfla sees this message.

  • It seems to me that Brown is going to win. He’s been ahead in the polling for days, relatively indisputably. There are some people out there convinced that the Democrats are going to somehow rig the election, but I’m not one of those. I believe he has the support necessary to win, and this mailer is nothing but the beginning of a vicious smear campaign that will probably last his entire term. They’re simply dropping Coakley and reloading for the next election. They’ll attack from every direction for the next 6 years, and slowly turn the public against him.

  • I assumed it had been going to be some boring old post, however it extremely compensated for my time. I will post a link to the current page on my blog. I’m positive my guests can notice that terribly useful.
