Top Palin Booster Scheunemann Declines Comment On Claim She’d Be “Catastrophic” In 2012
Here’s the latest in the raging war over the future of Sarah Palin and the GOP:
Randy Scheunemann, the high-profile McCain senior foreign policy adviser and major Palin booster, is declining comment on campaign manager Steve Schmidt’s claim today that if Republicans nominate her for 2012 the election could be “catastrophic.”
I just reached Scheunemann on the phone, and the first thing he said was, “Not interested.” He clearly knew why I was calling, and after I pushed him a bit, he snapped: “No comment.” And that was that.
It’s striking that Scheunemann, of all people, would decline comment. He’d previously been one of her most high-profile and aggressive defenders. He was reportedly fired from the campaign because senior McCain advisers reportedly concluded he’d allied himself closely with Palin — and was leaking to the press to help her — at the expense of the overall campaign’s message.
Scheunemann’s tone on foreign policy was, and is, in sync with Palin’s harsh, jingoistic attacks on Obama. Scheunemann recently advised Palin on foreign policy for her speech abroad, and it’s possible he’s just deciding to lay low on this fight to avoid keeping the story going. But it’s just odd that he would let Schmidt’s comment stand.

Update: A Republican points out that Scheunemann is said to be advising Palin on foreign policy right now, so I’ve edited the above to reflect this.

Please run, Sarah! Even more, please vote for her Republicans!
Plus he was with her in Hong Kong. I pretty much figured he would be enlightening her on foreign policy.
Not only that Greg. Scheunermann was apparently involved in Palin’s speaking engagement. I think he thinks she’s his ticket to the WH maybe? Or maybe just the ticket to peddle his world views through Palin’s voice since nobody is interested in Mr. “we are all Georgian’s now.”
yep, I just added an update on his advising her…
Greg:
It’s striking that Scheunemann, of all people, would refuse to rise to Palin’s defense.
Is it possibile that this is less a reflection of his unwillingness to “defend” Palin than it is a reflection of his unwillingness to talk to you?
dangit. Lmsinca hit enter first.
ot but. I was just listening to Greg’s email pal on the GOP guidance machine, A.M. radio.
He was pretty ecstatic about Chicago not winning. I’d imagine he just ordered himself up a bottle of blue pills, three little boys and a half dozen triple Whoppers to celebrate.
Greg, LOL. I love your needling the repugs.
he snapped How typically rethhuglican …
scott c., fair question, but my strong impression from talking to him was that he was not commenting to anyone. And I’d be surprised if he knows me in any case…
Greg – You don’t have to be defensive. This war-mongering wingnut is a plain palin enabler and just like a typical repug, didn’t have the guts to stand up for her.
This is a total non-issue and frankly it is getting embarrassing Greg.
This is BY FAR a more important issue:

The new rumor is Palin wants to open a line of makeup. This wommn is just interested in money, too bad. It would destroy the Republican Party to have her as their nominee in 2012, especially with young voters like me.
qb, cry me a river. Rush claims half the nation is part of NAMBLA.
You can tell it’s a “bad news” day for Dems when the liberal blogs focus on Palin. Rallying the base, Greg? Or perhaps you’re getting some sort of cut from her book sales? Because you’re doing an awful lot of PR work for her book today!
Maybe he just wasn’t going to play your game, Greg. Isn’t that kind of obvious? Calling people you don’t like to try to get them to comment about each other isn’t exactly a sophisticated scheme.
Mike,
Do you have some evidence of pedophilic conduct by Rush?
sbj,
You nailed it. It’s endlessly amusing to me as well that the left is so afraid of someone they claim is so patently incompetent, idiotic, etc.
Greg, I love it when you rile the dishonest, wingnuts here.
sbj – spluttering too much ? I’ll give you the twit from tundras will always have her stoopid and illiterate base to keep her in comfort for the rest of her life. But that base will never be enough to win for her any more political post, including AK govnership or senate.
oooo, “libel” ? We’re scared.
What a fvcking idjit and moran.
qb. I read it on the internetz so it must be true. Here.

You aren’t bothering me at all. I’m just giving you more chances to continue to demonstrate your vile character, which you are surely doing.
I am interested in Greg’s reaction to Mike’s posting of a libelous comment, though. What about it Greg, are “humorous” accusations of child rape acceptable here?
qb. Do you admit your leader Rush joking about people being in NAMBLA is unacceptable?
Not only that…now Fox has turned onto the smear of the Education Secretary insisting he is part of NAMBLA.
Bringing up NAMBLA is some sort of conservative game that has been going on for over a decade as some sort of joke to go after liberals and ****.
Spare me the faux outrage.
I prefer the theory that Scheunemann KNOWS that Sarah would be a train wreck disaster of epic proportions for the country … but “can’t” be the one who reveals that the empress has no brains. He needs someone else to “prove” that she’s fatally incompetent as an executive/administrator so that it doesn’t look like he was the one who knifed her shot at fame and glory.
I still think Scheunemann is using Palin as a voice.
qb – Greg tolerates all the tripe, innuendos and lies posted by you and other nuts here. So, go suck an egg and a rotten one at that.

More polite discourse from the left, Garrison Keillor: “Thirty-two percent of the population identifies with the GOP, and if we cut off health care to them, we could probably pay off the deficit in short order.” (Via Don Surber)
Lola,
Nice rumor from a “style” website. Michelle Obama was paid a huge salary for a fancy make-work job after her hubby became a Senator, and she got a huge raise soon after he sent a $1 million earmark home to her employer. That wasn’t a rumor. And there are the huge amounts Barack was paid for his two memoirs. Then Michelle complained during the compaign about how hard it is to pay for all the private lessons and other privileges of wealth. She and Barack are apparently just interested in $$$$ as well.
I am curious, though. Would you ever vote for a conservative over a liberal or a Republican over a Democrat? How would Republicans get your vote?
qb. That explains why Obama worked for the State Senate when he just could have become a high payed lawyer.

Mike,
“qb. That explains why Obama worked for the State Senate when he just could have become a high payed lawyer.”
And Palin’s record of service shows she is just out for money? Isn’t there any double standard too absurd for you folks to assert?
Regarding your attempted equivalency of references to NAMBLA and your libelous comment, I haven’t seen or heard Rush connect Kevin Jennings to NAMBLA, but let’s assume he has.
The fact is that Jennings (an Asst Deputy, not Secretary) singled out Harry Hay in a speech as one of his inspirations. Like it or not, Hay was, according to all reports, an unabashed champion of NAMBLA and pedophilia. Need I start drawing obvious parallels that you would undoubtedly find unacceptable? How about someone who was inspired by George Wallace because of his staunch defense of federalism?
Jennings also admittedly did not report a case of homosexual rape of a teenager, when it was his clear duty to do so.
Jennings is also a patent religious bigot who, if most Americans knew more of his record, clearly could not remain in appointed office.
I don’t think you want to defend joking that Rush is a pedophile with Jennings.
Religious bigot. QB. You moron. Religion is the fountainhead of almost all bigotry.
qb. Seriously man. You need to get another news source. Just about everything you stated is wrong.

Nothing today on the Job numbers? Or that huge sucking noise coming out of Detroit… wow can those numbers get much worse? I guess we have to keep giving them money if we want those UAW votes.
Hey – Palin – I think she’s kinda hot.. in that **** librarian sorta way. But Presidential material? no. Still – she makes things interesting, in a **** librarian kinda way.
Interesting her book is #1 – that says something doesn’t it?
I note that anything from the “other side” you just make fun of. I find that interesting too.
I like the President. I have a big problem with congress – but I think Obama is ok. I wish he’d follow through a bit more on what he campaigned to do – but he seems like a nice guy.
Ford is doing well. They held up better, their sales have dropped less that even Toyota’s.
It is easy to scapegoat the Unions, but Detroit recieved only a tiny percentage of the amount that the Republicans gave to Wall St. Strange how all you people just never seem to get upset about all the hundreds of billions that Bush/Paulson forked over to the Wall St.Robber Barons, who actually caused the financial meltdown.
When you start to seriously express outrage about that gigantic theft from the National Treasury, then you can come back and talk to us about the Unions. Until that time, spare us your sanctimonious fiscal restraint hypocrisy.
“qb. Seriously man. You need to get another news source. Just about everything you stated is wrong.”
You don’t identify any errors, which I take to mean you are blowing smoke.
@Iam
I’m not talking about a war. I am talking about two zombie, government owned car companies.
Ford is not doing well, they are just doing a little better. They have about 16b on hand, but at their burn-rate they will need more help too.
Outrage? yes – the problem is this, the problem at GM & Chrysler is the culture of management – and it has not changed. Pray tell – what Chrysler model is anyone here planning on buying? GM? The problem at those companies is two-fold – management & union. They are working together, it seems, to see which can drive the companies out of business faster.
