Sarah Palin’s Publisher Confirms She Took Private Plane On Book “Bus” Tour

A spokesperson for Sarah Palin’s publisher has just confirmed to me that she took a privately chartered jet plane on several legs of her book tour, despite the fact that it had been billed as a bus tour.

But the spokesperson argued that she had only taken three plane trips, and that her plane travel had been “minimal” and only for “logistical” reasons.

The story first started making the rounds this morning when The Daily Beast looked at plane logs and concluded that Palin’s bus tour, billed as proof that she’s one of the people, was in fact a “hoax” and that she’s really been “winging across the country” in a private luxury jet.

Tina Andreadis, a spokesperson for Palin publisher HarperCollins, confirmed to me that Palin did in fact take three plane trips by privately chartered jet, flying to stops in Michigan, Rochester, NY, and Birmingham, AL.

But Andreadis argued that HarperCollins, and not Palin, had scheduled the plane trips and paid for them. She also claimed there was plenty of driving, with the bus heading through Indiana and Ohio, with stops in Fort Wayne and Columbus, and through the southeast, with stops in Roanoke, Fayetville, and Florida.

“The plane stops were minimal” and were only done for “logistical reasons,” Andreadis argued. “The majority of it was done by bus, but there were some stops we couldn’t do by bus.”

Andreadis allowed that the trip had been billed as a bus tour, but insisted: “We never hid the fact that there would be some planes.”

The best thing about Palin is how much she gets under the skin of liberals.

  2. John T. | November 30th, 2009 at 03:44 pm

Al Gore flys around the world on his jets spewing pollution and liberals couldn’t care less. Palin steps one foot off her bus and it is a major scandal. PDS.

  3. holyhandgrenaid | November 30th, 2009 at 03:47 pm

John, incorrect. There is nothing good about Sarah Palin. She brings out the stupidest on the right, and the most venomous on the left. Come to think of it, she brings out the venomous on the right too…

Either way, she ranks somewhere between Kim Kardashian and Perez Hilton on the scale of people whose sudden inexplainable disappearance will negatively affect society.

    Seriously Greg, no more!

“But Andreadis argued that HarperCollins, and not Palin, had scheduled the plane trips and paid for them.”

Caught in another lie, blaming someone else, again.
In Sarah’s mind, she can do no wrong and always tells the truth. Isn’t that delusional? Can’t someone who is delusional and practices treason on a regular basis be put under psychiatric observation?

  7. Rhoda | November 30th, 2009 at 04:02 pm

John T.: “The best thing about Sarah Palin is how she gets under the skin of liberals.”

    Seriously?

    That’s just sad.

She got caught in a lie again. She’s lied a lot. She has quit her job as governor to go on wingnut welfare and she’s now proven someone is stupider than Dan Quayle. Good luck if that is the Republican party in 2010 and 2012. Democrats will have an easier time than most imagine being blessed with such competition.

  8. Greg Sargent | November 30th, 2009 at 04:09 pm

cmon Holly, a little fun with Palin never hurt anyone. :) as long as it’s a little.

  9. Courtney | November 30th, 2009 at 04:11 pm

holyhandgrenaid – Apparently you are the stupid one if you can’t even form a sentence to support your opinion. You had it right the first time.

Let’s continue to pick Sarah Palin apart on the matters that have NOTHING to do with what she stands for. Because you can’t pick apart what she stands for you choose to pick apart her transportation and any other insignificant thing you can think about. (this is for the rest of you no holyhandgrenaid )

Leave her alone and start talking about policies and law you know the things that don’t make it on perezhilton.com…

“The best thing about Sarah Palin is how she gets under the skin of liberals.”

Yeah, that’s why we elect people to be our leaders. Just to piss off the other guy. Phew!

  11. lmsinca | November 30th, 2009 at 04:14 pm

That’s right Greg, little being the keyword. Nice that you got a quote from her publisher. The mom from the Tundra likes to travel in style when others pay for it would be my take.

Are you watching HCR debate on the Senate Floor?

  12. holyhandgrenaid | November 30th, 2009 at 04:17 pm

Courtney, way to conflate a typo and neglecting to proofread with intelligence. Seriously, this is a blog post comment c’mon!

And Greg, when she’s involved with something of substance, I will openly encourage you to post on it, but this is nothing. Its up there with people running around shouting after she quit that Turkey Trot 5k race.

  13. Tena | November 30th, 2009 at 04:18 pm

“Yeah, that’s why we elect people to be our leaders. Just to piss off the other guy. Phew!”

I think that is why the Repugs vote, frankly.

  14. lmsinca | November 30th, 2009 at 04:21 pm

    Courtney

I haven’t seen her particularly stand for anything, but I do know she’s against non-existant death panels, we could debate that I suppose. I know she respects and admires Reagan and would like to time travel back to the period when trickle down got it’s good name, except it didn’t work, did you want to debate that? And then there’s good ole tax cuts, that’s a fun debate as well.

  15. Tena | November 30th, 2009 at 04:25 pm

Well we could debate the way Sarah threw the oil welfare money around in Alaska – one would have thought she was a Socialist.

Or the $2500 Valentino jacket she swore she was giving back and most assuredly did not since I’ve seen her in it twice since Obama was inaugurated.

  16. lmsinca | November 30th, 2009 at 04:30 pm

Or we could debate creationism vs. evolution and how she pretends humans and dinosaurs co-existed.

  17. Winski | November 30th, 2009 at 04:33 pm

So, you’re telling us, in a public forum, that Sarah Palin’s book publisher confirmed to you that Sarah Palin is a LIAR?

If so, then ALL the money she’s collected from the knuckle-draggers out and about should be given back – immediately. Unless, they don’t care..which is actually WORSE!

  18. Tena | November 30th, 2009 at 04:33 pm

“Or we could debate creationism vs. evolution and how she pretends humans and dinosaurs co-existed.”

And whether or not Africa is a continent and the difference between England and Great Britain and the location of Canada cause she seemed very unclear on that when she was interviewed.

  19. Tena | November 30th, 2009 at 04:38 pm

“If so, then ALL the money she’s collected from the knuckle-draggers out and about should be given back – immediately. Unless, they don’t care..which is actually WORSE!”

The entire book is a lie, starting with the cover where it says: by Sarah Palin.

She didn’t write one word of that book.

  20. SchrodingersCat | November 30th, 2009 at 04:38 pm

The problem, Courtney, is that Sarah and her supporters have not sold Sarah to the public by pushing her policy stances; they have sold the fact that she’s a “hockey mom”, “a maverick”, that she can shoot a gun, knows how to dress a moose, and that she gave birth to a child with Downs syndrome. Now that some of the myths surrounding St. Sarah are beginning to crumble or have crumbled people like you want to cry foul. Sorry – you live by the sword, you die by the sword.

  21. Tena | November 30th, 2009 at 04:41 pm

Schrodinger’s Cat = or you could say: you live by the idiot, you die by the idiot.

She’s dumber than dirt. That’s the problem with Sarah Palin.

  22. oddjob | November 30th, 2009 at 04:54 pm

The mom from the Tundra likes to travel in style when others pay for it would be my take.

And for that she ran into trouble when she was governor. There was more than one account of her illegally putting on the government tab travel she should have paid for herself.

  23. Gasman | November 30th, 2009 at 04:56 pm

Apparently, bus tours can be taken on planes. You can also be against a Bridge to Nowhere while you are for it.

You can also be smart and informed while giving interviews that ALL indicate the opposite.

You can also be a member of the GOP while actively lobbying against it.

Last but certainly not least, you can work more effectively for the people of a state by resigning as their governor. I hear that she has done wonders for Alaska since leaving office.

John T., the woman has yet to make any sense about anything. She is a pathological liar and a moron. She doesn’t get under anyone’s skin, she insults us simply by her ineptitude. She has no business being on the national stage. She is definitely no ready for the majors.

  24. greg | November 30th, 2009 at 04:57 pm

Did you also check to see how 0bama, Hillary, and Bill Clinton got from city to city and state to state during their book tours? Of course not, just like the AP didn’t have 11 people :”fact checking” any of their books. Grow up, and get a fricking life.

  25. Tena | November 30th, 2009 at 04:58 pm

“I hear that she has done wonders for Alaska since leaving office.”

O hell – that was the biggest favor anyone ever did for Alaska. She frakked things up so badly that they probably were going to bounce her a*s*s right out of office.

  26. oddjob | November 30th, 2009 at 04:59 pm

But that is what she stands for. It isn’t the details of her policy stances that matter (there aren’t any that are of any consequence), but rather what she symbolizes. As a symbol she’s now what a huge portion of the GOP base thinks is what they are all about.

That is, they are all about their grievances, and almost nothing else. They are the political party as adolescent snit and temper tantrum, and she epitomizes precisely that.

She is indeed what they stand for!

  27. Tena | November 30th, 2009 at 05:00 pm

greg – Obama, Hilary and Bill Clinton don’t go around talking about bein’ one of the folks who just wants to talk to you around the kitchen table about your little life.

Sarah has made that her mantra so this is what she gets. It’s called hypocrisy. I know the Right doesn’t recognize it, but that’s what it is.

  28. lmsinca | November 30th, 2009 at 05:00 pm

John T and Courtney, If we didn’t have you two and a couple of other posters here defending her all the time as if she were something other than the latest “Reality Star”, our ridicule of her would die because of lack of oxygen. The ball’s back in your court.

  29. Tena | November 30th, 2009 at 05:01 pm

And if Sarah is your hero, greg – you ought to welcome the fact-checking. You ought to want it. It’s her book and if she is all you say she is, then you ought to want to see it fact-checked.

What are you so afraid of?

  30. oddjob | November 30th, 2009 at 05:02 pm

It’s like that Republican litmus test/not-litmus test the RNC released last week. Did you notice how many of their stances weren’t for, but only against something?

    MOST OF THEM.

  31. Andy | November 30th, 2009 at 05:08 pm

Since greg clearly didn’t bother to read the Daily Beast post maybe this will help him understand:

“There is, of course, nothing the least bit inappropriate about flying from place to place on a book tour.”

“What’s wrong in this instance is the apparent fakery created and sustained for the sake of building pseudo-populist appeal—and selling books. Sarah Palin and HarperCollins have consciously tried to give the impression that she is doing her book tour by bus when the evidence suggests she is not.”

  32. Gasman | November 30th, 2009 at 05:13 pm

    lower case greg,
The AP didn’t need 11 people fact checking the books of those you mentioned because they are not riddled with lies. Also, you might want to drop the “11 people fact checking” meme that Palin is pedaling. It is deceptive. At least 11 people were consulted because of their areas of expertise. A single person was doing most of the work.

You can’t even rebut charges of lying without being deceptive yourself. Your side wouldn’t know the truth if it bit you in the a**.

  33. Andy | November 30th, 2009 at 05:21 pm

    Tena,
The Huffpo empire is expanding its reach:

“On December 20, a HuffPo reporter will have White House pool duty, a role that requires following Obama throughout the day and filing reports that can be used by the rest of the press corps who will not be in such close proximity to the president.”

  34. Tena | November 30th, 2009 at 05:25 pm

    Andy – groovy.

I’d let up a bit on her if she would stop with the 16 point type red headlines. Some days she has a flashing light – just like Drudge.

It’s really low rent and dishonest – she is just using National Enquirer-Drudge tactics to get readers. She does’nt need to – she has some good people writing for her. If she’d shut up personally and let them do it and have a talk with her editorial staff about those ledes, a lot of my criticism would die.

  36. She't not that into you | November 30th, 2009 at 05:31 pm

    So, a Palin-enabler sez:
“let’s continue to pick Sarah Palin apart on the matters that have NOTHING to do with what she stands for. Because you can’t pick apart what she stands for you choose to pick apart her transportation and any other insignificant thing you can think about.”

Actually, supposedly being “honest and real”, pretending to be “regular folks” is pretty much Palin’s whole claim to fame. She doesn’t stand for anything concrete. All of her “policies” are just buzzwords. You cannot pass a bill that legislates “commonsense conservatism”. She never gives any details. It’s just buzzword blab.

Palin’s fans *say* what they like about her is that she is honest and real. Guess what, she is fake and greedy! We find her doing a phony bus tour while she travels in VERY high style, $4000 per hour jet, dragging the whole family around. I know a lot of you Palin folks haven’t been to a lot of book signings, or you would know that only rich people and top celebs do their book tours via private plan OR by fancy personalized buses (yes, more than one would be needed if they do the tour as advertised). Everybody else takes commercial air or drives. Most cannot afford to drag parents, kids, and aunts. And she uses Trig as a prop. Lets him run around in bare feet in a parking lot while she’s too busy yakking into the microphone to see that he’s not being properly supervised.

Palin is lying by ommission, she is NOT “real”, she is a liar and a phony. If you want a lying phony who acts like some cheap celeb who got famous on a reality show, then Palin is your gal.

And this has NOTHING to do with any other politician or political figure. This is Palin doing this. So save your whining as you try to distract from the fact that Palin is a liar and a fraud.

  37. Andy | November 30th, 2009 at 05:32 pm

The headline right now is “Shame” and I was thinking the same thing about how Drudge-like that is.

  38. Tena | November 30th, 2009 at 05:38 pm

“Everybody else takes commercial air or drives. Most cannot afford to drag parents, kids, and aunts. And she uses Trig as a prop. Lets him run around in bare feet in a parking lot while she’s too busy yakking into the microphone to see that he’s not being properly supervised.”

They wrote their own books, too.

It makes me so damn mad that people like her get treated like literary celebrities when honest to god artists have to practically pay for their own book tours.

That’s not her fault, but the fact that after she gets all this handed to her on a silver fu**king platter she still whines and complains and blames everybody but herself for any kind of negative anything that gets said about her is truly obnoxious and is lost on exactly no one in the country but the purblind Palin devotees and fanbase. It’s a frakking fan base -not a political movement.

  39. Sapwolf | November 30th, 2009 at 06:53 pm

I love how the left keeps grasping at the lamest stuff to try to attack her.

Next it will be something pathetic like “Palin was cuckoo for cocoapuffs in 1st grade”. My God, call Andy Sullivan.

  40. Sapwolf | November 30th, 2009 at 06:54 pm

The meltdown of the MSM and the Left continues. Boo-hoo.

  41. Tena | November 30th, 2009 at 07:00 pm

I love how the idiot trolls can’t find any way to defend Sarah and just attack us instead.

    ahem

    ROFLMAO

  42. melior | November 30th, 2009 at 07:17 pm

Golly, I sure hope she’ll do some more of that “fancy pageant walkin’” she’s famous for! Also too that no one asks her any of those mean “gotcha” questions, like which newspapers she “reads”. (wink) Youbetcha!

  43. Gasman | November 30th, 2009 at 07:40 pm

Sapwolf is but another teabagging troll who cannot argue a position on its merits, because the teabagger positions have no merits.

Ad hominems, lies, and hyperbole are all they’ve got.

  45. Another Alaskan | November 30th, 2009 at 07:51 pm

Gee, this reminds me a lot of how Palin claimed she was all about fiscal responsibility in Alaska and portrayed herself as an ordinary person who didn’t need all them fancy perks. Then she charged the State of Alaska $20,000 to fly her kids all over the place, including to events to which they were not invited. The best one, of course, was the $700 per night NYC hotel that she and Bristol stayed at for four nights while she attended a five-hour conference.

When she complains about all those “frivolous” ethics complaints, she doesn’t acknowledge that she agreed to pay back some of this money after an independent investigator looked into it. Her lawyer claimed she was “exonerated,” but the investigator disagreed and said she simply agreed not to contest some charges and he agreed not to file a formal action or take it to a hearing.

Nobody cares if she flies around on book tour in a luxury jet. That’s what wealthy celebrities do. It’s just that most of them don’t pretend at the same time that they’re just one of the ordinary folks fighting for the little people of middle America.

But you fans keep on adoring the image of Sarah Palin while ignoring the reality of her. She’s counting on you.

Also, don’t forget to send some more money to her Alaska Fund Trust (which an ethics investigator DID find was a likely abuse of power, except she quit before the full-fledged hearing).

She has a lot of bills to pay, you know.

  46. oddjob | November 30th, 2009 at 08:36 pm

It’s a frakking fan base -not a political movement.

As I’ve said before, her behavior makes zero sense if she’s trying to lead a political movement to a White House victory, but her behavior makes complete sense if she’s trying to be a political celebrity riding a gravy train for all it’s worth.

  47. AKReport | November 30th, 2009 at 08:48 pm

liberals can do better then this.

    1. she never said there would not be plane, so you can’t call her a liar, and you can’t call her a liar because she never said the tour would be 100% by bus.

2.Who cares if she goes in a non government funded jet.

    3. these type of nonsense attacks only prove she is the frontrunner going into 2012.

  48. poolman | November 30th, 2009 at 09:02 pm

I’m surprised she didn’t go on eBay to find herself a jet?

I agree with oddball except I think it’s a crazy train instead of a gravy train.

  49. labman57 | November 30th, 2009 at 09:06 pm

Palin has invested a great deal of energy trying to convey to the public her contrived image as as just one of the “regular folk”, a beer-drinking, moose-hunting hockey mom.
Sarah’s “ship of perception” is rapidly sinking in the “ocean of reality”.

  50. Nicole Coulter | November 30th, 2009 at 09:13 pm

Meanwhile, maybe you could check out the Global Warming Hoax.

    What a joke.

You people are pathetic. Sarah Palin never claimed she would never fly in an airplane. She publicly tweeted her flights, in fact. And she has probably spent the better part of 4 days on a bus from her stops in Ohio and Indiana, as well as Florida.

You are just silly, pathetic and obsessed.

Meanwhile, Obama continues to make Jimmy Carter look like George Washington.

  51. Maggie | November 30th, 2009 at 09:13 pm

her behavior makes complete sense if she’s trying to be a political celebrity riding a gravy train for all it’s worth.

Hey, it’s one heckuva gig if you can get it, right?

Sarah is a celebrity because she has charisma, chutzpa and no sense of shame . . . and it’s all packaged in a toned body with a pretty face and sparkling teeth. Just add some RNC clothes and then c’mon, gravy train . . . . “Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers.”

  52. Nicole Coulter | November 30th, 2009 at 09:16 pm

Oh, and leave it to Palin Deranged idiots to not know the difference between a private jet and a jet purchased by the government using taxpayer money.

Not knowing the difference between the private and public sector is was truly defines the Democratic Party these days.

  53. viva | November 30th, 2009 at 09:24 pm

Oh, yes — they DID hide it. HarperCollins refused to give any comment about the phony bus tour for more than 24 hours. Guess they gave up stalling.

  54. Nicole Coulter | November 30th, 2009 at 09:24 pm

You can’t alter the fact she spent 85% less on travel than her Republican predecessor. Go ahead and try to SPIN that.

Seriously, you people don’t give a flying flip what Obama is doing to this country. Did you notice that the same people complaining about Bush spending have ignored Obama’s tripling of the annual deficit? What about Michelle Obama’s 22 assistants when Hillary had THREE?

You nitpit Palin because you hate her. So be it. But you can’t change her record as a fiscal conservative. You can try, but you can’t change the fact she vetoed $500 million worth of pork projects, and YES she did sell the governor’s jet after listing it on eBay. She also laid off the governor’s chef, and the chauffeur, and refused to accept a pay raise while in office as governor and as mayor.

You wanna tell us that those are the acts of a diva?

Fine. You’re blind to the truth. You probably think that her standing up to her eyebrows in fish guts every summer is somehow a ploy to convince people she’s just regular folk, too. Her whole life is just a ploy to you people.

    You’re beyond help.

  55. emrysa | November 30th, 2009 at 09:31 pm

do you ever notice that the people who defend palin really don’t defend her, but rather attack the person who is questioning her? funny, that.

    they got nuthin.

  56. poolman | November 30th, 2009 at 09:44 pm

Nicole, she listed it on eBay, but couldn’t sell it there. She ended up selling it at a loss. Also, yes, she spent less than her REPUBLICAN predecessor on travel during her UNCOMPLETED term as governor. Your point? And what about SARAH PAC? And all the Artic Cat freebies? Oh and the 16 mil Wasilla sports complex? Fiscal conservative my a–.

  57. Patty | November 30th, 2009 at 09:47 pm

This is crazy. Why do you people loathe this woman so much? As far as I know she didn’t say she was exclusively riding the bus. If her publisher wanted to supply her with a jet for some of the tour, what do you care? She is making them a fair amount of money, why wouldn’t they supply transportation? It is business. Should she have taken a vow of poverty?

I think this is all rooted in a deep jealousy on the left. This attractive woman, played sports, competed in a beauty pagent and worked her way through college like myself and a lot of other folks. She married her high school sweetheart. Worked in the family fishing business and as a sports announcer. Began raising a family, ran for public office. She went door to door to campaign for mayor with kids in tow. She WAS elected. Presided over Wasilla during a time of growth and then was APPOINTED as Chairman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. She ran a successful grass roots campaign for governor of Alaska. She WAS elected. Was CHOSEN as the vice Presidental running mate of a major Presidental candidate. Wrote (or co-wrote if you will) a best selling book and is making a great deal of money. You know she is not a moron, with no self discipline. She is the embodiment of the American dream. She is the embodiment of feminism. She is the embodiment of success and it just eats you people up. Sad, for you folks really.

  58. labman57 | November 30th, 2009 at 09:50 pm

Looking forward to Palin’s next book: Going Gas Range — 101 Moose Meals, from Tundra to Table.
Unlike her first effort, this one WILL be non-fiction.

  59. emrysa | November 30th, 2009 at 09:52 pm

“You can’t alter the fact she spent 85% less on travel than her Republican predecessor.”

    >>>> according to whose numbers? also, too – she served half a term. how many years was her predecessor in office?

“you can’t change the fact she vetoed $500 million worth of pork projects,”

    >>>> but how many did she accept?

“she did sell the governor’s jet after listing it on eBay”

    >>>> she clearly implied during her convention speech that she SOLD the jet on ebay. clearly.

“She also laid off the governor’s chef, and the chauffeur,”

    >>>> too many eyes and ears around the family. family secrets must be kept, and that won’t happen with hired help around. you really think get ridding of 2 positions where people would have had to be around her family had anything to do with fiscal conservatism? please. look at her history – becomes mayor, appoints friends. becomes governor, appoints friends. she doesn’t want “outsiders” to know what’s really going on.

“and refused to accept a pay raise while in office as governor and as mayor.”

    >>>> hmmm.. not quite. the real story on that one:

    http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/09/did_palin_really_take_a_pay_cu.php

    >>>> dontcha think it’s kinda funny that palin touts her “ethics reform” as her crown achievement as governor, yet she resigns when she’s held to her own ethics laws? oh, but let’s put her in the whitehouse, lmfao!

excuse me, I left out a very important qualifier:

    “appoints *unqualified* friends”

  61. poolman | November 30th, 2009 at 10:01 pm

Patty, I agree with the “crazy” part.”She is the embodiment of the American dream.” If this is true, wake me up because it is a nightmare. She is certainly good at STARTING a lot of things. She is fraudulent, manipulative, vindictive, and divisive. Yes, she is attractive, somewhat fearless, and has charisma. The part that is scary is she is a dominionist and is backed by such radical fundamentalist groups that feel our government needs to adapt “Christian” principals in place of our laws. She is against the separation of church and state and wants to impose her false beliefs on every citizen.

  62. emrysa | November 30th, 2009 at 10:06 pm

“Presided over Wasilla during a time of growth”

    >>>> when palin was mayor, wasilla had 6500 residents and NO DEBT. when she left office, wasilla had $22,000,000 in debt. from $0 to $3384.00 DEBT for every citizen. wow, that’s some fiscal conservatism!

“then was APPOINTED as Chairman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.”

    >>>> which she QUIT before her term was over.

“She ran a successful grass roots campaign for governor of Alaska. She WAS elected.”

    >>>> which she QUIT before her term was over. see a pattern?

zzzzzzzzz y’all don’t care. just keep complaining about the black man.

  63. Patty | November 30th, 2009 at 10:14 pm

    Poolman,
I don’t know where you get the idea that Palin wants to impose her false beliefs on every citizen. If someone holds strongly held beliefs does it follow that they want to impose them on everyone else?
I happen not to adhere to the belief that my hard earned income should be taken from me to pay for other peoples healthcare and abortions,( thank you, Ms. Pelosi). The entire notion that the rich or in this case anyone with an income, must take care of anyone else is a moral belief that the left have no problem imposing on everyone. I happen to believe that we actually should help others and support those who need assistance but I believe that it should be voluntary, as to NOT impose my moral beliefs on others.

  64. tubino | November 30th, 2009 at 10:18 pm

Damn. I am beginning to think that no one remembers that Sarah Palin’s big claim to fame was that she hired lobbyists to get pork diverted to Wasilla — and they were successful during the Bush years (when so much pork was diverted to republican executive branch officials).

Sarah Palin made herself the queen of fed pork, with Wasilla far outstripping nearest competitor in $ per capita. This is not disputed by anyone who has looked at the numbers. Of course it completely undercuts her new persona.

  65. Texas Aggie | November 30th, 2009 at 10:20 pm

With all the stupidity and plain deceit in her book itself, that she is flying in a chartered jet is really no big deal. It is much better to focus on things about her that really matter. I would much rather hear about episodes in her life that illustrate her basic personality as opposed to her public persona than this.

  66. tubino | November 30th, 2009 at 10:23 pm

    Patty,
I happen to think that my hard-earned income should not be taken from me to pay for politically-determined pork projects, like the kind that put Palin on the map.

I happen to think that my hard-earned income should not be taken from me to pay for torture, killing civilians with drones, or crony capitalist handouts to bankers.

I happen to think that borrowing trillions from China to pay for wars (thank you, Bush, Cheney, etc.) is planting the seeds for this country’s downfall.

So why would I ever vote for a Republican?

  67. tubino | November 30th, 2009 at 10:27 pm

Palin hired lobbyists who brought in $27M to the tiny town of Wasilla. She is the poster-child for a corrupt system of earmarks.

Patty, the majority of Americans want universal health care. The private sector has not stepped up to the plate since 44,000 people die in this nation every year due to lack of health insurance. The FACTS show that Medicare-for-all would cost the country far less than what we are spending now. Why can’t you grasp the concept that we ALREADY pay for the uninsured because they can go to the emergency room (most expensive care around) and get treatment. But go ahead and believe what corporate America tells you, since they are better represented in DC than you or I.

  69. Patty | November 30th, 2009 at 10:32 pm

    Tubino,
I happen to agree with you. So, why would you ever vote for a Democrat either? It seems that both sides are guilty of this and that would make them (us) all hypocrites. Is this politican really any worse than any of the others?

  70. Texas Aggie | November 30th, 2009 at 10:37 pm

Patty, one gets the idea that Palin wants to impose her beliefs on others because she says she does. She wants creationism taught in the schools, she wants only abstinence taught in the schools, she wants rape victims to pay for the investigation into their rape…

As for your belief that help for people who need it should be voluntary, it doesn’t seem to be working, does it? The food kitchens have an overwhelming increase in clients and and overwhelming decrease in voluntary support. It brings to mind Dr. John Galbraith’s comment that “The modern conservative is engaged in one of man’s oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.”

And I have to laugh at you for believing that your “hard earned income should be taken from you to pay for” some insurance adjuster’s year end bonus for finding a way to deny you your claim. By your own admission, I should be allowed to keep my hard earned money from being taken from me to pay for someone’s Star Wars.

    > Patty | November 30th, 2009 at 10:14 pm
    > happen not to adhere to the belief that my hard earned income should be taken from me to pay for other peoples healthcare

Let me ask you this question: If you pay for your own healthcare, and there’s a community that cannot pay for its own healthcare nearby, will the diseases that find a breeding population in the community with no healthcare STAY within that community, given freedom of travel?

    I doubt it.

Communal efforts quite often benefit the whole community. That’s kinda why we bother to create communities to begin with. The roads that you did not pay for in their entirety bring you to distant jobs, goods and services to your town as well as, possibly, folks purchasing local goods and services. You have about as much right, in theory, to a well-maintained system of roads as you do to healthcare — and yet you do not, I assume, picket the department of transportation.

  72. tubino | November 30th, 2009 at 10:56 pm

Patty, while I’m not any kind of party loyalist, I’ve now watched Democrats make unpopular moves to reduce the deficit, only to be undercut by Republicans. Take a peek:
    http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=94203271

Because I don’t want to watch the US lose more in power and influence, I can’t vote for Republicans. Republicans claimed that tax increases under Clinton would wreck the economy; instead we saw record growth.
Republicans claimed their tax cuts would spur economic growth and jobs; instead we’re living with recession and record unemployment.

I could go on and on, but the short story is that Republicans want to privatize profits while socializing losses. They want to further concentrate wealth at the top, and they want to use wars to funnel our treasury to their contributor base while weakening our military. They want to borrow all the money to do it so that there is no popular recognition of the cost.

These areas (and lots of other in the area of civil liberties) make the Dems the lesser of two evils.

  73. tubino | November 30th, 2009 at 11:08 pm

OOPS wrong link! THIS one shows the deficit growth over time:

OMG!!! Palin used a plane on parts of the trip???? Seriously, this is NEWS? Stop the presses – STOP THE PRESSES! She brought in $ to her state? Is this legal? That’s it – arrest all governors past and present!!! She brought in $ to her city while mayor? Well, the nerve…

What do you haters do? Wait for Google news alerts on anything Palin and then spit and hiss on the comments all night? GROW UP KIDDIES & GET A LIFE!

  75. Jack | December 1st, 2009 at 12:09 am

She’s just like us! Yeah, she’s one of the republican version of the little people. At least on TV. In private, not at all.

The word you’re looking for there is “debt”. She brought “debt” to her town. Look up the Wasilla Sports Complex, comma, how much it cost.

  77. Gasman | December 1st, 2009 at 12:35 am

Wow, who let the trolls in? Hey, Palinistas: care to cite references for the “facts” about Palin you are extracting from who knows where? You are obviously sycophantic teabaggers who eagerly lap up all the sewage that issues forth from FauxNews, but can you back up your boasts?

Sarah Palin is an arrogant, lying, ignoramus who attracts morons like sh*t attract flies. Teabaggers are just about as credible and as welcome as the t*rd seeking flies.

My bet is that most of the sudden surfeit of Palinistas are the creation of as few as a single teabagging troll. These folks ain’t too bright.

  78. Ann | December 1st, 2009 at 09:23 am

I still don’t believe they are telling the whole truth. An Alaskan blogger has the entire flight record of that private jet, and it shows more than 3 stops on Palin’s tour.

The thing is, a lot of people on a book tour would use a plane, but it’s the lies that are important here. Palin tried to pretend that she was on that bus traveling across America to “up” her populist appeal. But, she is a millionaire now and is flying around on private jets…not hitting the highway on a bus. She is a proven liar and a fraud.

  79. Matt | December 1st, 2009 at 09:58 am

Who gives a ****…She is a private citizen now and can fly or ride a bus or a moose. Why is this news? Her 15 minutes are over.

  80. o | December 1st, 2009 at 11:26 am

    Matt: Why is this news?
Because the palin haters are reporting it.

Media Blathers Follow-Up: Mayor Palin and Wasilla’s Earmarks

ABC News reported, that oft-cited “27 million” figure refers not to the Wasilla’s earmarks but rather, to the earmarks the entire Matanuska-Susitna Borough received as a result of the lobbying firm that multiple borough communities, including Wasilla, used to acquire Federal funds, and of the three earmarks from this total which Senator John McCain attacked, Palin was only involved in one. That earmark was for a $1-million regional emergency dispatch centre, which was requested following a major 1996 fire that burnt down 300 homes in the borough.

To sum up: Wasilla received $7.95 million in Federal earmarks between 2000 and 2003, not the $27 million figure MMFA – along with multiple media sources – cites.

Palin is light amusement at best. She does not get under anyone’s skin. She’s not skin deep.

  84. Fred | December 1st, 2009 at 05:29 pm

The point is that the woman is a fraud, a phony, a fake.

  85. LJ | December 1st, 2009 at 05:31 pm

Why do the extreme right wingers insist that Sarah gets under the skin of liberals? That’s just silly. Liberals get that Sarah is a nitwit, can’t tell the truth and is all about robbing the extreme right wingers blind before her way over extended 15 minutes are up. By the way, these extreme right wingers are dropping their money at Sarah’s feet left AND right so they have no one to blame but themselves for Sarah being called out on her embarrassing word salads. It’s silly to give your money to Sarah, a proven liar just to avoid admitting how wrong you right wingers are about her. Sarah seems to have all extreme right wingers blinded right now. I think Sarah gets under the skin of extreme right wingers to be honest with you. Sarah makes every extreme right winger all warm and tingly, go figure. I’m glad not to have that affliction. I like my hope and change something way too complicated for extreme right wingers to comprehend in their simple little minds.

  86. tubino | December 1st, 2009 at 08:43 pm

Palin is a hypocrite posing as someone sincere and honest. Here’s a nice quote from the ABC story linked above:

In a Mar. 5 op-ed piece in the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, Palin defended her requests for earmarks, arguing that Congress “has the constitutional responsibility to put its mark on the federal budget, including adding funds that the president has not proposed.

The issue isn’t whether earmarks are ‘good’ or ‘bad’ (stupid oversimplification), but that Palin argued in favor, then turned around and claimed to be on the other side. Like most politicians and certainly most republicans, she dodges the hard work of explaining and defending her position, and drops her principles to take the stance expedient for campaigning.

    It’s the hypocrisy.

    “PHONIES R US ” !!!!

  88. gerry from Phila., PA | December 2nd, 2009 at 05:41 pm

My REAL concerns are about the “gullibility” factor. Palin and other GOP phonies and hypocrites, are able to sell this
nonsense about “values” and “faith” etc.WAY too easily, it amazes me! And on a daily basis, they lie, cheat and are the WORST possible examples of values and faith !! I am a Christian who is FED UP with MY faith being USED as some campaign slogan……”YOU SHALL KNOW THEM BY THEIR FRUITS……..”

  89. JUlia | December 3rd, 2009 at 12:26 pm

I think most people who are honest, know Sarah Palin is as phoney as a 3.00 bill and on top of that, in my view, she is an animal abuser..shooting God’s rare four legged creatures from a helicopter for sport..the sooner people stop giving her a free ride to the money and publicity, the better for America…..
