Key Reason Palin Gave For Quitting May Be False
Updated below.
One of the chief reasons Sarah Palin has given for resigning as Governor of Alaska is that her state’s taxpayers are being forced to spend money defending her government against ethics complaints that would otherwise fund teachers, cops, and road repair.
But in response to our questions, a spokesperson for the Alaska governor’s office just gave us new information that casts serious doubt on this assertion. The revelation makes the resignation episode even stranger, and raises fresh questions about the real reasons for her abrupt departure.
During her resignation speech last week, Palin presented herself as a heroic defender of the taxpayer. She said that money being spent on government lawyers to defend against these “frivolous ethics violations” could be “going to things that are very important, like troopers and roads and teachers and fish research.” Palin repeated exactly the same point this week.
But David Murrow, a spokesperson for the Governor, said in an interview that much of this money was budgeted to the lawyers in advance and would have gone to them anyway, even if state lawyers hadn’t been defending against these ethics complaints.
In response to our questions, the Governor’s office provided us with a detailed breakdown of the millions Palin has claimed has gone to defending against ethics complaints. It does list roughly $1.9 million in expenditures.
But Murrow, the spokesperson, acknowledged to our reporter, Amanda Erickson, that this total was arrived at by adding up attorney hours spent on fending off complaints — based on the fixed salaries of lawyers in the governor’s office and the Department of Law. The money would have gone to the lawyers no matter what they were doing. The complaints are “just distracting them from other duties,” Murrow said.
In other words, while these lawyers might have been free to do other legal work for the state, the ethics complaints have apparently not had the real world impact Palin has claimed, and didn’t drain money away from cops, teachers, roads and other things.
Similarly, TPM reports that there are only three ethics complaints outstanding against the Palin administration in any case — which, combined with the above, casts serious doubts on one of her chief stated reasons for quitting.
Murrow has not responded to folllow-up questions asking him to explain how this squares with Palin’s claims. We’ll update you if he does.

Update: It gets better! The Alaska Daily News has now picked up our story and added lots more good stuff.
This blog’s homepage is here. RSS feed here. Twitter feed here. Email me here.

I wonder if the MSM will pick this up
Greg, you are obviously part of the ‘gotcha media’ for spreading this.
Yes, it is all a grand right-wing plot.
(Hand-rubbing)
Sarah Palin believes it’s no big deal that she quit in the middle of her first term. Happens all the time, right? As it turns out—no.
On a hunch, I reviewed online lists of all the men and women who’ve been elected governor of their state since 1900. Pored over them for a few hours. Over 1200 politicians have taken that first-term oath of office. Some soon died in office. Many resigned to accept other positions in government, including Spiro Agnew who was “tapped” by Nixon after being the Governor of Maryland for about five minutes. On a handful of occasions, a first-termer was dragged off to the slammer or impeached. One was incapacitated by a nervous breakdown and one left just as impeachment came knocking on his door. So—how many out of over 1200 just up and quit before the end of their term?
Three: Jim McGreevy, Eliot Spitzer and Sarah Palin.
Can anyone say “other shoe?”
Sarah Palin lied? Really? I guess this destroys her perfect record of “truthiness” all these months we’ve known her.
Seriously, folks (if I can be serious about Sarah), ex-Governor Palin is the gift that keeps on giving. Just when we thought we were rid of Sarah, she keeps popping up like one of those whack-a-moles. What’s worse, she’s even more defiant than a whack-a-mole! What’s even worse than that, even, is she’s even dumber than a whack-a-mole!
Here’s part of the instructions for the whack-a-mole game:
The object of the game is to force the individual moles back into their holes by hitting them directly on the head with the mallet, thereby adding to the player’s score. The more quickly this is done the higher the final score.
OK. Who out there wants to try for the highest score? I think the Alaska legislature holds the current record at 13.
I am waiting to see who in the MSM will have the cojones to ask J.McCain for an apology to the american people for Sarah Palin. What if he had won…what a nightmare…
Thanks for this…I have been wondering why the media (that Palin bashes all the time and blames for her demise) keeps using the figures that Palin gave them without any investigative journalism. Seems it’s up to blogger today to do the investigating. The media was just tripping over themselves yesterday to go fishin’ with Palin that they forgot to ask her any real questions.
The bloggers are the biggest threat in the 21st century. Right after the Nuclear Weapons, North Korea and Iran.
Just imagine~~~~~~~~~~ Sara was a heartbeat away! 2012-2016 she still could be. JUST IMAGINE a Palin White House.
On the same note, Palin keeps saying that they have spent 500K for her defense. She (or the media) never mentions that she started a legal defense fund to ask ordinary citizens to pay for her legal bills. Have they even paid anything out of their pocket? I read a few months back that James Dobson’s group gave her around 160K to pay legal bills.
Who says that it has cost the Palin’s 500K—except the Palin’s. I just think it’s interesting that her statement is repeated as fact, when we don’t know the facts.
WalterNeff–That’s some good research that puts this resignation in perspective. There’s either another shoe to drop, or Palin treats the voice of the electorate very lightly. What public trust when she’s making it up as she goes?
WalterNeff: Good investigative work. Very interesting.
Walter:”…One was incapacitated by a nervous breakdown ”
I wonder if this is a growth category.
An Alaska blogger is in the job!
http://www.henkimaa.com/2009/07/07/the-2-million-dollar-meme/
And the plot thickens..
But she could get caught burying infants in the frozen tundra of her backyard, and the “base” would still love her.
Go Sarah Go! ..idjits.
It’s only called ‘gotcha media’ when they catch someone in a lie and it isn’t FOX News. “Gotcha media” is a fathead Limbaughism.
Sarah Palin – Liar, Liar – pants on fire!
What tax payers? I thought Alaska didn’t have taxes.
She only talked money in her resignation so people would feel sorry for her and contribute to her PAC/legal defense fund. She killed two birds with one stone by quitting in mid stream 1.) she doesn’t have to work anymore 2.) she raises money.
Palin is the ultimate poster child for money for nothing.
I’m waiting for Bush 41 to apologize for Dan Quayle. And don’t even get me started on Spiro Agnew…
Okay, she lied about the money being spent. It was budgeted any way.
My question is the per diem for Palin to stay at home in Wasilla, was that budgeted? How much did she cost Alaska to live in Wasilla?
Big deal about her reason for quitting. Do you honestly think she’s going to tell the truth? I want to know what she’s going to do next. Is she pulling a Bob Dole?
Thanks to Greg and Andrew Sullivan (in his capacity as a critic) for staying on this and asking important questions. Shout out to SG for lambasting Jay Newton-Small of Time for her ludicrous puff piece interview.
On Fox today (Greta), Palin’s lawyer was on and they seem to be spreading the “rumor” that it was actually the democratic party who was filing these ethics complaints. Maybe someone should threaten him with a lawsuit. I believe it’s fact that all but 2 complaints were filed by Alaskan citizens. He is saying that “others” were filed by pseudonyms, so they “could” be from the Democratic party. But, he was implying that they were. I think the DNC needs to be alerted.
To All of You, I guess I am one of those “right wingers” that loves Sarah Palin! She is the freshest voice in politics in a long time. I am so tired of the jaded lemmings that keep, trashing her. Why don’t you just admit it you are terrified of her! She really is change unlike the narrow minded, arrogant, full-of himself, small visioned euro copy cat that currently occupies the white house.
Sarah Palin lies and tells “fibs”. She also claimed on Friday that every one of the complaints against her was without substance. One of the complaints dealt with her children’s travel, billed to the state. She reached a settlement and had to pay $8k back. On Troopergate, she was found guilty of a major ethics violation. How can she get away with claiming all the complaints against her were frivolous? Answer: She’s a liar.
Joyce, I am not afraid of Palin – I am afraid of the ignorance that spawned her and her followers, who are showing all the signs of being a cult. That ignorance is not change, it’s what brought us the Crusades, the Inquisitions, the Holocaust, Jim Crow, 9/11……
Sarah Palin, the Wasilla *****, needs to just go away for good!
What a terrible woman who appears to have finally got her come-upn’s
Following Georgia in NC, in other words Joyce, we’re afraid of you.
Tsk tsk tsk Greg and Amanda – joining the ranks of the liberal full press court against Queen Sarah, the deranged icevixen.
Translated into real world English – Good damn job!!!!!!
Palin only wants her “truth” out there for the world to hear. Did anyone else see how Palin responded to Andrea Mitchell yesterday when she was being questioned for NBC, she angrily told Andrea, “You’re not listening to me!” In other words, you can ask Palin anything you want to but only if her answers are aired as the gospel truth. After all, she’s not a quitter, she’s a “fighter”, she doesn’t just float along like dead fish.
Hey Joyce in Georgia – watch me be arrogant:
I spent 4 years in college and 3 years in law school and I will die before I have a president or vice president who dropped out of 5 schools and finished a BA in Sports Journalism by mail.
Damn straight I’m arrogant. I earned it.
Sarah Palin is an IDIOT. She doesn’t even speak a recognizable language. The only way you could possibly understand her is if you are as stupid as she is.
Can you tell me about the Document on Alaska:Right Of Lien Selected Doc:2001-022840-0 District:311 Palmer Lot 3 Block 1 Page 2 10/19/2001 saying that Spenard Builders Supply is a Grantee Of LI-LIENS for Todd/Palin on their home? Is this the same one who gave Rep. Stevens from Alaska gifts an ect., that their was ethic violations on? Is it true this Comp. also got lucrative contracts from Gov. Palin, an gave her generouse campagne donations? Some one tell me please, if this is the trueth?
She cdan’t stop lying. In her round of interviews she made a statemnt that Todd built their boat with his buddies 20 years ago. Funny thing is that it is a factory built gilnetter. Its the little lies that bother me.
Joyce: if you think Palin has the smarts to be elected President go for it. She is an ignoramus – hey I used an elitist word.
Wow. Palin lies yet again. That’s a total shock.
She couldn’t tell the truth from a lie, she truly is very delusional and compulsive in her lying. We all are stuck on this show the Wasilla Hillbillies and unfortunately as much media attention as she keeps getting, its destined to last longer than the MASH series.
Palin is a LIAR
Palin is a HYPOCRITE
Palin is an IGNORAMUS
Palin is a FRAUD
Palin is a QUITTER
Sadly,Palin can’t help herself. She believe her own lies and it appears to be pathological. She needs psychiatric help and while she’s at it, she should engage the services of an English Tutor to teach her how to string a sentence together.
Nicely done. Now if only reporters would start asking questions. Waiting…
When we add up the cost of the Iraq/Afghan wars, we don’t subtract the salaries of a standing army, who would be paid even if they stayed home at their US bases. It’s common to calculate the hours spent and the value of that in lawyer time. For instance, Michael Jackson’s prosecution may be said to have costs many millions of dollars. But those prosecutors and investigators were on the payroll anyway. Sure some experts were hired, but when the costs to the taxpayer are totaled, they always include those salaries.
I honestly think it’s a personality disorder – she has no respect for the truth at all. None. That’s why she is so very casual about it – she lies every time she opens her mouth.
And yes, the little lies really get to you -
And my dear peeps, who have I just described besides the Deranged Icevixen, Sarah Palin?
Why none other than Commander CooCoo Bananas – George W Bush. She’s George W in red “phuhk-me shoes.” And decals on the toenails (the true Tonya Harding touch, right there-)
Hey Joyce in GA. We would prefer to ignore her, but she continues to lie, evade and thrusts herself into the spotlight, Common sense is severely lacking in both you and Scary Palin.
Leave Sarah alone! Leave her alone!!!
I’m sick of these pseudo-Americans questioning REAL Amerikan’s motives. REAL Amerikans would just believe her! It’s not like she’s done anything to betray the public trust, or used our precious tax dollars to benefit herself… She sounds like a REAL Amerikan, and her photo-ops make her look like a REAL Amerikan, so automatically, she is trustworthy and honest, and just simply superduper awesome! Can’t the liberal-gotcha media understand that? No one gives a rats *** how much she knows, or whether she can evaluate a situation beyond a cursory analysis, or whether her “pre-prepared” remarks (read off her teleprompter) contain run-on sentences and other simple grammatical errors… I’m calling on REAL Amerikans to lobby the gubment to have the Department of Law protect Sarah Barracuda! A true mavrik and a REAL Amerikan! If she’s not elected in 2012, REAL Amerikans will move to Alaska, secede, and crown her our philosophizing queen! Joyce is with me, right?!!
Ya joyce, Palin would be real change alright. We would have a “Dept of Law that’s in the White House”. It would protect the President from being bogged down with pesky ethics complaints because they would just throw them out. Wow!!!!!!
I’m not sure what part of Palin’s ignorance scares me the most. The part about an imaginary “Dept of Law that’s in the White House” or the part that they would have the power to just throw out lawsuits a their will.
Ya-Boy-Howdy—that’s REAL change.
Thanks Georgia in NC. This link has all the facts(ie.not just opinion)about all the ethics complaints and their cost.Really excellent investigative reporting.
An Alaska blogger is in the job!
http://www.henkimaa.com/2009/07/07/the-2-million-dollar-meme/
Seriously though. The fact that she listed so many reasons, means that none of those are the real reason she’s leaving office. My prediction: She’s gonna get her own little soapbox on Faux so she wouldn’t be accountable to anyone, keep to scripted remarks, wink to the knuckle draggers in our population (sorry Geico cavemen), to set up a run for POTUS.
Sarah resigned to show her appreciation for our troops in Kosovo and Afganistan.
momom, you said: It’s the little lies that bother me.
I agree 100%. People who lie about small things, lie about big things.Palin lies a lot about small things–and big things like Bridges and Jets being sold. There is just something wrong behind those fancy eye glasses,
Thanks for that link. I was looking for that information based on the lies that Palin’s lawyer was telling Greta today on Fox. He was basically saying that the Democratic Party was behind these “attacks” on Palin. I kid you not. Someone needs to take him to task on his statements today.
What’s a few little lies when they’re coming out like a breath of fresh air, also?
As long as the incompetent ***** is gone, why should it matter?
I don’t think this is news. I’m no fan of Palin, but “just distracting them from other duties,” is essentially equivalent to wasted money. Palin may have exaggerated a little, but this is certainly no major revelation and not important enough to break into MSM.
In March, Palin told the Anchorage Daily News, “I must defend against these baseless ethics accusations out of my own pocket as the use of public monies to do so could itself violate state law…” Link:
http://www.adn.com/palin/story/731157.html
I had heard that loons lived at HuffPo. When you support the silencing of anyone by lawsuit after baseless lawsuit, just because you disagree or hate, you’re part of the problem. Conservatives see this as fear of Palin by the Left – it will only make her more popular.
Hmmmmm……. could it be that Sarah is going to use what she sees as her current political pull, to further the seccesionist cause of the Alaskan Independence Party (AIP) that she and Todd have been soooooo supportive of, (at least until March 15, 2008 when she addressed their bi-annual convention). In fact, of the 9 conventions AIP has held, 3 have been in Wasilla. Even more interesting is the fact that Wasilla residents Mark Chryson, Verne Rupright and Bernadette Rupright have all served on the AIP board a total of 5 terms. Sounds like Wasilla is a hot bed of seccesionism, a goal AIP clearly embraces on their home page. Sarah, what gives?????
Joyce.Joyce..Joyce..Maybe you also believe there is a “Law Department” at the White House. Has Palin figured out what the Bush Doctrine is yet? Is she reading anything besides “Runner’s World”? What is scarier than Palin in 2012 is that there are people who actually believe in her. These lies do not surprise me. She is a quitter, pure and simple. Quitting fo a “higher calling” and complaining that others who have done the same aren;t held to the same standard. Obama quit the senate after he was elected President, Hilary quit the senate after she was appointed Secretary of State and even Kansas governor Sebilius didn;t quit until after she was appointed to her post. GREAT research, and great article. I hope Keith picks up on this article. Maybe Anna Marie from the Huffington should share this information on Maddox tonight.
Holy ****! Walter Neff – I didn’t see you up there until just now. O my god – it’s great to see you, Walter! One of my favorite people ever!
Is there something brewing with the “housegate” rumor?
Remember their house was “built by Todd” and a “few buddies” at the same time as the Wasilla Sport’s complex. Many of the sport’s complex materials were also used in the Palin house. Not to mention the (sport’s complex) windows in the Palin house. Due to their size, these needed cranes to be installed, impossible task with just a “few buddies”.
The Palins have consistently denied that Spenard Builders Supply was involved with the construction of their home, (the building company which built the Sport’s Complex simultaneously). SBS received lucrative contracts from Gov. Palin, who in turn received donations from SBS as well as SBS family and friends:
Here is the recorded document (of the construction/builder’s lien) which proves Spenard did build the Palin House, the question now is how much did the Palins benefit, besides lying about this? Research would need to be done on construction loans and how “quickly” those were “paid off” to the bank. How much was reported to the IRS, etc.

It is likewise interesting that hile serving as mayor of Wasilla, Sarah Palin blocked an initiative that would have required the public filing of building permits—thus momentarily preventing the revelation of such suspicious information.
Here is the public recorder’s website:

trisha – “I read a few months back that James Dobson’s group gave her around 160K to pay legal bills. ”
I love that. I love that so very much that I fell out of my chair laughing the laughter of the doves. Way to waste your congregations’ cash, James – I bet they didn’t know it was a-going to Sarah. I bet they thought it was going to rescue all those “born alive aborted babies.”
Since they don’t exist, somebody had to get the money, right?
God I do love the Right so much – Walking Hypocrisy Writ Very Large Indeed. Which I think Yahweh explained, didn’t please Him much at all. I remember enough New Testament to know His Son reaaaaaaaaaaallly hated it – I mean, Jesus went all Chicago on the hypocrites using the Temple as the Judean-style Wall Street.
threesmommy: yes you do add up those costs. in this war we are using a lot of guard units that are paid for active that would not be paid active other than their one full weekend a month and on full month a year. please… pull your head out. its not palin’s stupidity i’m worried about as much as it is the people who are falling for it. we have become a very very stupid country. mostly in the south.. where there is a large concentration of republicans.
Great article! Thank you!
Oh how sad that Hollywood and the Beltway types don’t understand what truth is!
Truth is whatever St Sarah says. She is not tied to old fashioned “facts”, nor has she ever particularly cared for “logic” or “nosy Buttinski’s” trying to use the same old elitist values like “truth”.
Yes, St. Sarah is a pathological liar, but no, that does NOT disqualify her for office.
She is afterall a Republican.
The work that would have been done by the lawyers might not have needed to be done. In which case, the state may not have needed the lawyers. So, that money could indeed have gone to teachers, troopers, et al.
Sarah Palin’s resignation speech:
http://community.adn.com/adn/node/142176
Every one – all 15 of the ethics complaints have been dismissed. We’ve won! But it hasn’t been cheap – the State has wasted THOUSANDS of hours of YOUR time and shelled out some two million of YOUR dollars to respond to “opposition research” – that’s money NOT going to fund teachers or troopers – or safer roads. And this political absurdity, the “politics of personal destruction”
Sarah Palin in MARCH of this year:
http://www.adn.com/palin/story/731157.html
“I must defend against these baseless ethics accusations out of my own pocket as the use of public monies to do so could itself violate state law,” Palin wrote.
I don’t know what’s worse… Sarah Palin lying (again).. Or the fact that the SAME NEWS OUTLET REPORTED THESE STATEMENTS AND DIDN’T EVEN PICK UP ON THE CONTRADICTION!!!
Just when I thought this articulate reporting on PsychoBarbie couldn’t get any better, I read these incredible comments, with even more supportive evidence. I believe the Wassilla house will be the Palin’s Waterloo, at long last.
Sarah’s such a wonderful representative of the Republican Party, and I’m sure she’s puod of herself.
But I doubt too many Republicans are too happy to have their identical secrets let out.
Is the person who wrote this moron? Let’s say you live in apartment with a Super. You have been living there fine for years. Then last August, a woman moves in, and every week after her ex-boyfriend starts smashing windows in the building. Yes, the Super who already has a job and can fix them, and yes there is a maintenance budget. But, it takes all his time away from THE ACTUAL work the Super should be doing (fixing clogged drains, upgrading energy efficient light bulbs, installing low flow showers and toilets). The woman can’t get a restraining order (because she can’t prove it is the boyfriend). So what is she left to do? Stay and make everyone in the building upset that no ACTUAL work by the Super can be done, or exit for the benefit of the tenants.
The reason it hasn’t been picked up by the media is because it is idiotic.
Oh, and Joyce.
Best of luck on your road to Oz.
It’s a shame you haven’t been the same since that house fell on your sister.
To All of You, I guess I am one of those “right wingers” that loves Sarah Palin! She is the freshest voice in politics in a long time. I am so tired of the jaded lemmings that keep, trashing her. Why don’t you just admit it you are terrified of her! She really is change unlike the narrow minded, arrogant, full-of himself, small visioned euro copy cat that currently occupies the white hous—————————————————————-\
Scared of her, you got to be kidding. She is just not smart enough. She left the only office that would give her any validity to run in 2012. To say anyone in the Dem party is scared of her is just silly. She will be pushed out in the primary by her own party who will label her a quitter.
Thank goodness Palin never made it on the national level. Now that was and is a true blessing.
I’m not buying it.
Unless the legal budget is a complete waste, the fact that lawyers are doing this work means that eventually: 1. other lawyers will have to be hired to take on the other work, 2. Some business of the state will go undone, 3. legal work which would have bettered the state’s position in a court case will be neglected, resulting in additional consts for the state, or 4. the state will enter into contracts in which its legal interests are at a disadvantage, because the contract wasn’t well lawyered.
All of these results add to the taxpayers’ burden. The fact that they’re indirect doesn’t make Palin’s statement a lie.
Palin lied. Why am I not surprised?
SILLY Sarah Failin’.
Sarah has been nothing but a disgrace to our nation. I have never been so embarassed in my life.
jbear said: “When you support the silencing of anyone by lawsuit after baseless lawsuit, just because you disagree or hate, you’re part of the problem.”
Sarah Palin has behaved unethically her entire career. And now that the citizens of Alaska – the folks who pay her salary – want her to be held accountable, you think THEY are the problem?! Here’s a crazy idea…perhaps if Palin was actually ethical, she wouldn’t attract so many ethics complaints!
The woman is a liar and a narcissist who will stop at nothing to gain more power and attention. Anyone who buys her baloney is either willfully ignorant or just plain dumb.
freethinkergirl: The recorded lien that you’re referring to is rather typical for a sub-contractor or a material supplier to record. In construction lending, the estimated budget provided by the builder and/or homeowner is more likely than not to need later amendments, and if the sub-contractor/material supplier is not payed promptly by the lender due to budget issues in need of resolution, then he’ll wisely record a mechanics lien to protect his payment priority before the statute of limitations runs out on him.
As for Palin herself, she’s hated by the left because she is the ideal American woman. She stuck to her principles and kept a baby that she knew was down syndrome (that really ticks off the pro-abortionist). She married a man’s man and is raising a family, while at the same time climbing her way up the political ladder as a result of her strong will to succeed. She is everything the bitter women representing the feminist movement are not, yet she is stronger (and better looking) than all of them combined.
Please don’t confuse Palin with Clinton. Honesty is not something many of us have seen in politics, so it’s a shocker, I know. But she is the real deal.
Wow I am totally amazed that liberal media and this website — are against Palin….I think I will go back and listen to the Clinton News Network (CNN)
This just shows how you can jump to a wrong conclusion. Just because the money was budgeted to pay legal costs doesn’t mean it automatically goes to the attorneys. If it isn’t spent it stays in the state cofffers for other more valuable expenses!!! Of course $1.9 million is small change to those Sarah bashers who are used to spending trillions!!!
What have you screaming libs been huffing? It’s obvious you sense that she is a real threat to the idiocy manifested in our current society and government. This idiocy that is the result of both political parties and she is also disliked by the republican establishment.
I was young and stupid when Regan came along and was horrified by the prospect of him becomming president. I couldn’t have been more incorrect. Palin exhibits many of Ronald Regan’s qualities and values. She is an outstanding person who is going to kick your collective, goulag loving butts.
@Stan Wright – You may have a valid point that the attorneys at the AK Dept. of Law could have been working on other things if not for these ethics complaints – but the reason they had to put so much work into these complaints is entirely a problem of the Governor’s making. The vast amount of Dept. of Law staff time spent dealing with these complaints involved legal discovery of the Governor’s and her administration’s emails. Months before Palin was named to the VP slot, the IT dept. for the state of AK had installed a new email system that included email retention and recovery software specifically designed to automate retention, discovery and email redaction. The retention/recovery software was virtually unusable for a year while the governor’s office dragged its feet on implementing an email retention policy – consistently refusing to establish a policy, though one based on state statute was provide to upper management before the system was implemented. Meanwhile, the governor and senior staff were using yahoo email to do state business – in direct circumvention of public records laws. Eventually the retention/recovery system was scrapped. Because the administration refused to approve an email retention policy, IT personnel and Department of Law staff were unable to configure the system, and were eventually forced to manually process the associated emails. If the administration had not avoided establishing an email retention policy, the IT group could have configured the software designed to ease that process, and the lawyers at the department would have had the capacity to process those documents in a fraction of the time. That mess was either the result of governing incompetence or a planned effort to make it more difficult for constituents or lawyers to access government records. Given the yahoo email usage, I’m guessing it was the latter.
The facts can be looked up. The largest & most expensive ethics complaint was the one she filed AGAINST HERSELF. Then decided to hire a personal atty instead of using the State’s to defend it. This atty is for by her TRUST FUND.
But then, we are trying to get the truth to those like Brian above who says, “As for Palin herself, she’s hated by the left because she is the ideal American woman.”
Good luck!
Brian Boru – Here’s what Sarah Palin and people like you can’t seem to get through your thick skulls…there is NO SUCH THING as the “ideal American woman,” just as there is no such thing as “REAL Americans.” Only those who are small-minded and fearful of people who don’t look and act exactly like them have a need to draw this nonsense line in the sand. The rest of us realize that our nation’s diversity is our greatest asset.
I see the kool-aid is freely pouring.
Greg, here they come. You must have been linked by instypunk or somesuch. Hey BriBaby of the real woman/manly man thinking: St. Sarah admitted thinking about having an abortion. The thought was able to flit across her tiny mind because she HAS a choice. She was also proud that Bristol CHOSE to have her baby. Please sober up and stop claiming that pro-choice people want disabled babies to be aborted. You do that and I promise to not assume that you’re a giant bearded redhead drunk on your butt because you chose the handle Brian Boru.
If you’re liberal, you think she’s a liar and a horrible person. I you’re a conservative, you think she’s the savior of the conservative movement. The prolem is when the disussion gets personal. I dare say that 99% of the people leaving msgs here don’t know her personally(me included). Nor do most of us know what it’s like to raise a special needs child. Just stop and think before you judge. The golden rule isn’t dead, just forgotten.
What’s the point? It’s over! Let it go!!!
why do you people care so much about sarah palin? leave the woman and her family alone. and liars? you must be joking…Obama leads the pack on that one (maybe even outdoing senator kennedy). now why aren’t you just appalled that barack obama was a first term senator who after only 18 months continued to get paid his senators salary while campaigning for president. he did NOTHING for the state of Illinois is his short time in the senate – EXCEPT CAMAPAIGN. what a hypocrite! he’s done NOTHING good in his entire life so why can’t you spend some time and energy talking about his useless existence?
Many of you seem to know so many details about Sarah Palin’s ethics violations which have never come to fruition. Perhaps you should do some research on all the other polititions who are still in office after tax evasion, Drunk driving violations, suspected murder charges etc. you might be surprised at what you find. WE should all be looking at these records and and their voting records instead of worring about why Sarah Palin resigned. Let’s do research on the current bills being passed in congress and protect our freedoms as Palin speaks of; limited government and lower taxes. Use your passion and abilities to do real research on each candidate currrent or future whether Republican or Democrat. Vote out the ones who do not represent you. And I say good luck to Sarah Palin in whatever her future holds.
What would the country look like if we all quit our jobs and just went on TV to talk about what “should” be done (if anyone felt like doing stuff, that is).
First, for all those who were duped by the Republicans and blame “mainstream media” for our nation’s ills, just remember, without newspapers and independent news broadcasts this nation as it was conceived would cease to exist. Asking politicians questions about their untenable policies and hypocritical behavior is not “gotcha media.” Accusations against Palin aren’t made up. She did bill her state travel per diem for days she stayed home. She did abuse her office in a vendetta against a relative. She has changed her story, lied and shown complete ignorance to matters of state. Asking a presidential candidate to explain the policies of the president she strongly supported is not “gotcha.” SHe supported Bush and his asinine policies she should be able to explain and defend them. She should explain why she referred to the Iraq war as a “mission from god.” She should be able to tell us where she gets her information. You ask me what papers or magazines I read and I could snap off an answer. She is incurious, unread, and poorly educated. Only in a state with a small population like Alaska where maybe 200,000 people vote, could a person with such a thin resume be elected. Just try and imagine her understanding the complexities and leading the debate on healthcare legislation like Biden is doing. Or going to Iraq to give a tough talk to their president. She complains about her family’s privacy but puts her unwed teen daughter on the cover of People and allows her to be exploited by a clothing line who named her a spokesperson for abstinence. Outside of the mooney they made I’d like to see how often this girl will be travelling and giving speeches about how abstinence works. When Palin, at 45 found out she her fetus had Down Syndrome, you don’t think she thought “I’m not a young woman, I have four kids, a pregnant unwed teen daughter, I have a state to run and I may run for president someday, maybe I don’t need another child that would require special care.” She was able to ponder that option because the law says she has one. ANy problems this woman claim to be experiencing are her own doing. During the campaign she refused to be briefed, then they grabbed loads of swag. Even Todd got a makeover. She shlepped her kids all over and dragged her pregnant daughter to rallies. They paraded the boyfriend out their and dressed them all up to be just a peachy keen family and we know all that was a crock. And then when needed she brings out the newborn like a prop. people like this should be kept far away from the White House. How crass and undiginified they seem next to the Obama family.
Brian Boru, if S. Palin was against abortion, why did she even have an amniocentesis? Amnios can cause miscarriage, just a small percentage. So if one is going to keep the baby, no matter what, they do no amnio. Hm?
Also, nobody is scared of S.Palin for her political views. I’m scared to death of her because we do not need a radical fundamentalist with her finger on the button, that believes that Jesus is coming in her lifetime. She’d be looking for Jesus, we’d be ducking for cover.
I think Sarah quit so she can fulfill her dream to pose in Playboy.
Alaska has a 8.8 billion dollar shortfall in their budget or about 30%. http://abcnews.go.com/Business/Economy/Story?id=8016634&page=3 Palin was going to have to make some tough decisions. Top of that list was going to be her cutting the $3,000 checks which residents receive from oil revenue–where else was she going to find the money?? She was going to quickly become the pariah of Alaska. Better to quit while you’re ahead then go down the tubes for the next two years and actually have to swallow the pill of tough economic times.
Dave you are a pig!!! is the personal bashing really necessary?
In all fairness, this seems like nitpicking. As one who has nothing but contempt for Sarah Palin and her inability to grasp even the most cursory facts, I’d be perfectly content to whomp on her for yet another lie or misstatement of fact.
However, the assertions that taxpayer funds are being expended to defend her and that the Alaska administration is being distracted from more important matters are, in their essence, true.
Criticizing her on this particular basis is putting a bit too fine a point on it, so to speak.
No one here is correct! The real reason Sarah Palin is resigning is to become POTUS 2012. B4 the end of this year, Obama will be in Bush 43 territory in terms of approve/disapprove poll numbers. Why? Because he is a bumbling fool.
Annie, my guess about why she quit is as good as anyone’s because she refuses to tell the truth.
@LGerleman–Good point. I am a pro-choice woman who chose not to have amnio specifically to avoid the risk of miscarriage (aka, a natural abortion), and because I knew I’d keep the baby. My first born has Asperger’s Syndrome, so to Ryan, yeah, I do know what it’s like to raise a special needs child, and it’s a lot of love, work and sacrifice. Just like bringing up any child, with a few more doctors’ appointments, speech therapy, occupational therapy, PET meetings, etc., thrown in. Sarah Palin has admirable qualities and natural talents, but her having a special needs child and a down-to-earth (yet amazingly blow-dried, french-manicured, full-warpaint) style does not absolve of her lying, cheating, na-na-boo-boo-I-can’t-hear-you ways.
Why does something typed into a spreadsheet suddenly become gospel? As I read the “detailed breakdown” over $1,194,380 of the money is simply listed under the Governor’s Office, the Dept of Administration or the Dept of Law without detail. More of the money is listed as relating to the Water Quality Initiative. There is no breakout showing how much was spent on the initial Troopergate investigation that Palin filed against herself. There is also over $500,000 listed under the Personnel Board after the Board itself released an accounting of half that amount. Why stand on a wobbly argument that the lawyers would’ve been working anyway when handed a silly piece of paper that says absolutely nothing?
Is this really news worthy? Leave her alone and let her and her family have some peace! All this time spent on this piece, you could be writing an article about how Obama’s policies ruining this country!
Wouldn’t it be nice if all of you Sarah haters applied the same scrutny to our current president.
While Greg’s contention that the State does not pay for her legal bills is an interesting claim, it does not reflect how budgeting of government legal offices work. Whether the Alaska Dept. of Law (essentially the Alaska AG) outsources such legal work or the in-house attorneys bill for it, there is still a legal bill. I have been an attorney in local, state and federal legal offices and either way, the taxpayer pays for defense of government employees, thus, these ethics complaints do have budgetary consequences. Also, believe it or not, government lawyers, like teachers and cops, do some important work. So, if you divert me from getting a child removed from an abusive parent or writing a hazardous waste regulation to defend an ethics claim, I will have less time to do that other legal work.
While Palin may have crossed some ethical boundaries and may feel that she is above the law, that puts her in good (or bad) company with many of my past clients who feel that a high government position makes them beholden to no one.
Letting Palin’s family have some peace begins at home. Did anyone notice the footage of Trig screaming his head off at the lakeside announcement? PS., Nothing to do with special needs, just a cranky baby. Poor little guy, but the show must go on.
We need Palin as President. That way, the GOP will RIGHTly get the blame when the country gets swallowed in an economic sinkhole. Because of Reaganomic’s belief in borrow and spend, the only true economic growth these past decades is DEBT. We don’t make anything anymore in this country except billionaires and that’s all done with smoke and mirrors. We all work in corporate towns, shop at corporate stores, and owe more at the end of each month to WALLSTREET. No matter, borrow and spend your share (or more) before the inevitable collapse.
SARAH FOR 2012.
The Following was paid for by the Democratic Party.
She’s the best thing for us.
why would the liberals waste their time blogging and putting her on the headlines, she already stepped down and give her title because of too much ethics complaints that doesnt cost those who accused her and stressed her and her family day and night. What power and influence does Sarah Palin have that she could not be convicted of all these allegations thrown at her SINCE, McCain picked her. Love your President Obama, know his secrets, what kind of man is he, his beliefs, his accomplishments, his policies, his friends, his been in office since Jan. did u see any positive change that is good for Americans ???? Focus on the President !!! not Sarah Palin, anyway liberals gonna want 8 years of Obama Administration dictating our lives, so why waste your time on Sarah Palin blogging and destroying her completely. Ok everyone hates Sarah Palin, she’s not gonna be your president and will never be, so what’s the point ?????
As I think more deeply about Ms Palin’s reasons for resigning it is definitely a breath of fresh air that she is not a “politic as usual”and is her own woman. What surprises me the most is the lack of support from women group that scream woman deserve a chance to prove themselves . Ms Palin is the ideal woman is many ways to what former women have fought for- having and doing it all. She is a career woman, a mother, businesswoman, elected official, community advocate, supporter of special needs, feminie, a go getter, independent thinker, nurturing, beautiful in and out, and with many female instincts. I could go on and on. I a native Mexican, naturalized in 1997 hold many of her ideals and comman sense logic and I applaud from the very moment I became aware of her. America look at your one daughter who is working hard in upholding the american dream one for all and all for one.
Wally, correct. And, unbeknown to Greg and his fellow conspirators, no mention was made regarding opportunity costs. Why is this relevant? Because Palin and her staff were spending vast amounts of time responding to FOIA requests and not being able to do the peoples business. They don’t have 32 czars running around aimlessly like Obama.
Thanks Georgia in NC. This link has all the facts(ie.not just opinion)about all of Governor Palin’s ethics complaints and their cost. Really excellent investigative reporting.
An Alaska blogger is on the job!
http://www.henkimaa.com/2009/07/07/the-2-million-dollar-meme/
Chuck, Palin POTUS 2012 is more than a wish. It’s a promise. Obama is shovel ready.
Sarah Palin as POTUS may be a scary thought, but what’s even scarier are the empty-headed Americans who will try to put her there that can’t see past the flag-waving self aggrandizing nonsense she will use to try and put herself there with. People, we just had 8 years of this country being run by a pack of illiterate morons – and some of you want more of this mess we currently are in by electing Sarah? Please, remove your heads from your sphincters… Stupid people shouldn’t be allowed to vote!
sarah is good looking woman..nice legs..damn…in the white house? i mowe the lawn for free just glance at her
popcornvender — ehem, only one problem here. The cost analysis pertains to the Board of Personnel, not the cost associated to Palin and her employees. Moreover, see my earlier post on opportunity cost, a fairly basic phrase relating to the costs in responding to frivolous lawsuits and FOIA requests instead of performing the peoples’ business.
Typical shallow comment on Sarah. The lawyers only get paid when they work. The budgeted funds don’t just go to them. The $1.9 million could have gone back to the state for something better. Instead the lawyers got paid for a waste of time!
Oh, Newt, the “infamous” font of wisdom and knowledge. Back to your meds ole chap.
joe sixx pack — caution! The Palins know there way around weapons and how to down loco mules.
Makes me wonder what those ethics investigations were turning up. Maybe David Letterman knocked her up during her visit to New York.
More frivolous ethics complaints? Give it up. None of the previous complaints have stuck and she has been cleared of everything previously thrown at her.
And about this “experience” thing. The current President, served less than 2/3 of one US Senate term, and spent most of that time running for president. Prior to that, he had no…repeat, NO prior executive experience. Not to mention his Senate career was hardly a blockbuster one, with no achievements of any kind worth mentioning. No significant legislation on the issues he so covets as president. Nothing.
And to comfort us for the fact that he had no foreign policy experience, he tapped arguably the dumbest vice-president in modern history, if not ever.
Tell me again, how Sarah Palin is not qualified to be president, even Vice-President, please. And can we do it WITHOUT any name calling or vitriol that is so prevalent from the left (and Andrew Sullivan) when it comes to Sarah Palin?
dear mr rundbaken,
why aren’t you just as curious about obama’s lack of candor regarding all his associations with chicago criminals, racists and terrorists? guess you just take him at his word right? oh but that’s right, no one in the MSM would dare to question him on anything for fear of being labeled a racist on the spot. he is a liar who was given a free pass by the LIBERAL LEFT WING MAINSTREAM MEDIA during the campaign and even more so now. it’s pathetic and if you don’t see that, you are a lost cause.
What a bunch of d-bags on this post. If the State of Alaska’s Lawyers are spending a good chunk of their time defending ethics violations then they aren’t taking care of legitimate issues the State of Alaska faces. THOSE ISSUES STILL NEED ADDRESSING. You people are assuming they get this money for just sitting around and playing tiddly winks.
Why is Obama running around the globe accomplishing absolutely nothing when the US economy is total meltdown. And what ever happened to the transparency he promised? Anyone remember the 5 days that the bills would be posted on the internet before they were voted on? Or am I the only one around here that can remember what went on during the campaign?
Not to mention, California which is full blown meltdown and cant’ pay it’s own bills. Hmmm, anyone spot a pattern here? Most liberal state with the highest taxes and it’s BROKE! Anyone care to argue that one?
I wish you guys cut the **** and leave her alone she did not spend more money then any governor or any politician,I am sick and tired of speculations about her the critics and the religion making.Since this woman open her mouth about her believe in GOD everyone turned against her and almost crucified her.YOU know why she resigned? she chose better to serve God then millions of loonies who doesn’t appreciate her, even politicians like her where stabbing her in the back, they want her to be corrupted just like them.
Didn’t two governors recently resign to join the ObamACORN administration? Didn’t Obama largely vacate his senate seat as he ran for president? Why, yes and yes.
I had a dream last night that palin is going to be dick chenney’s mouthpiece- since he is afraid now to speak and michael scheuer turned out to be such an idiot
she is like george bush so why not?
she is a monster who enjoys killing (not hunting, killing)
how did all these Sociopaths get in so many positions of power
what has happened to our great country that we don’t respect ethics, intellegence and hard work?
We need to change this
who are you to judge this woman abt why she does anything?
Dear Skinhead, oh, sorry, that’s Sickened.
How any right-dial radio talking points (buzzwords) did you just spout out there? Even using all caps to scream them out the way Savage, and Limbaugh like to. They scream all the way to the bank as nationalistic whack jobs lap it up.
Read the truth about your radio jocks: http://thetruthburns.wordpress.com/2009/05/14/michael-savage-is-was-and-always-will-be-a-weiner/
Who’s gonna pay those other peoples free/affordable health care ??? (For illegal immigrants included/unemployed/couch potatoes) ??? Since all that are in power are getting their salary from hardworking americans and businesses it will not be surprising if your grocery bills, utilities, toll booth, land/property taxes and other gov’t. run agencies gonna up their prices. In reality, free/affordable healthcare is not free or affordable at all. And by spending Trillions in borrowing and more economic stimulus to spend, we just add a whopping amount of interest by either hundreds of millions of dollars to our creditors every month ! What a genius President and his colleagues. Oh yeah Cap & Trade under the guise of global warming, to increase your utility bills because they are gonna bankrupt those coal industries by taxing them to the roof ! So those companies gonna raise their cost …. to those customers who use their services ! Very brilliant domino effect ! Its always us getting hurt will all these unwise decisions with all these unfit leaders in both parties ! But its getting worse even more !!!
Joe
california has a repub govenor who is trying to bankrupt the state so he can privatize the whole thing for his friends to make money off of-( he has investments in the prison system for one)
When will we start to see politicians go to jail for their illegal behavior? I want to see them locked up.
Palin is absolutely right. Greg Sargent has obviously never run anything except his mouth. To a manager, man-hours are the unit of resources that cost money. When you say “The complaints are “just distracting them from other duties”, then you are saying that those other things have to be paid for anyway. You are saying that productivity is down and opportunities may be lost.
Get back to me with some snide comments when you’re personally $500K in the hole from defending frivolous complaints from demofascists. Until then, you deserve to be ignored.
Simply put, If Mrs. Palin lied that “Todd and his buddies” built the house an S.B.S. wasn’t involved in the const. and they were———-there’s more than just a problem that she lied. S.B.S was given the contract to the Wasilla Sports Complex by Palin! Than they show up in fileing on her home as the Grantee. Than S.B.S shows up as Donation to Palin, family and freinds! Than to top it off, Palin STOPS a initiative that would have required public fileing of Building permits—-DELAYING this information from hitting certain PEOPLE”S desk that could see it as some pretty funny bussiness going on by the Governor of Alaska! Than you wonder why they won’t leave this soon to be EX- Gov. alone? Whats to stop the next Gov. from doing shady bussiness? Who will suffer, you? NO, the people of alaska! You want to know the trueth, than ya dig it up! You hope the law will take care of it as it should. But will it, if initiatives are taken to stop Fileing in your state to cover up such activities by your own Gov.? So, go ahead an sit on your thumbs while your leaders get away with this, because you think the media hurt the lady with their rumors and etc.! Sit on it, because you feel sorry for the lady and her children(Who’s sadly caught in the middle), of their parents own makeing of this situation. Just let her get away with it, and the next one, and the nextone, and the next one——-all because you feel sorry for them! Let Sanford get away with it, because you feel sorry for the family! Just bury the your head, while you bury any resembalance of the trueth an the Law and what it stands for!
What is also never mentioned in any of these stories is that the ethics complaint with the highest individual cost of any of them was an ethics complaint that Sarah Palin filed against herself as a strategic move to try and shut down the legislative investigation that was going on. The board that reviews ethics complaints is completely appointed by the governor and the legislative investigation was being run by independently elected legislators not beholding to her.
As to the amount of time she has spent on it, well she may be spending the bulk of her time on these complaints but part of the reason for that may lie in the fact that she spends very little time at work. One of the observations from long time observers of the capital here in Alaska is that Sarah and her people have been the least hard working administration in their collective memory. Of course, it is impossible to document that because the administration won’t release her schedule, logs of her time in the office, phone logs etc. Which have always been routinely released by previous governors.
PHOTOS OF MCCAIN/PALIN STILL ADORN A LOT OF BUMPER STICKERS IN “HICK” DIXIE. THESE BUMPER STICKERS, ALONG WITH THE CONFERDATE FLAG JUST POINTS OUT; “A BUNCH OF LOSERS!:
I can see Alaska from Sarah’s house, Run Sarah run, run, run
See Sarah run,run,run,run. lol
dear skinhead liberal(PJBravo)-
GET OVER YOURSELF! The truth about Obama really pushes your buttons huh? You can’t even take the fact that he’s as much a liar as any and all politicians.
The funniest thing about people like you (and yes that means LIBERALS) is that you hate anything and anyone who doesn’t agree with your viewpoints 100%. The party of hate!
P.S. i don’t listen to radio jocks. i like classical music but thanks for asking.
yeah, i’ve been to 52 of the 57 states. talk about idiots?
“As for Palin herself, she’s hated by the left because she is the ideal American woman. :”
O. My.
If that’s so, Sailor, how come so very very many women can’t stand her? I’ll tell you why – she’s meaner than cat schitt, and she makes women look bad because she’s stupid and incompetent and the only reason she got picked to run with McCain is because she is a woman and attractive.
She’s totally inappropriate in serious situations – you do not wear open toed shoes if you want to be taken seriously as women in a professional situation. You also do not wink and wear long earrings and carry on like you’re a two bit hooker looking for “dates” with other candidates and debate moderators, or anyone else for that matter.
She is an ideal mean, nasty, hypocritical IDIOT. And most women – Independents as well as Democrats and not a few Republicans agree with me – not with you.
“What surprises me the most is the lack of support from women group that scream woman deserve a chance to prove themselves ”
SHE’S ALREADY PROVEN THAT SHE’S TOTALLY UNFIT FOR PUBLIC OFFICE.
SHE’S TOTALLY INCOMPETENT AND INCAPABLE OF LEARNING ENOUGH TO GET HER TO COMPETENCY.
Please take off the Jesus/Republican colored glasses. Please.
eric sean nelson is an idiot for what he said about sara palin’s handicap son.it is easy for an out of shape ugly punk like eric to something like this. i bet if her husband was standing in front of you would not be the slight bit disrespectful.hey eric put your ugly *** family up so we can let you know how we feel about the ***** that gave you birth
I’d love a one on one with Sarah Palin. She can’t answer a question without double-speak language. Did she not graduate with a journalism degree? Does she not think that journalists are going to ask the hard questions, do the work and dig for facts and that whatever she says is going to be recorded?
God forbid she ever makes it to the national level. George W. Bush’ is going to look like a rookie compared to Sarah’s creative new personal protection laws she’ll have created to cover her backside.
smokey if it’s true she signed a multi-milion dollar book contract. Ya really think 500K(pushing that cost aren’t ya), that she would be worried about it. Obama two books net him over 4 million. I’m sure Palins will do as good, if not better given the fascination ya all seem to have in her.Obama vacated his seat to continue to serve our Goverment at a higher office! Not to quit when it got to tough for him! Big difference there buddy. while I don’t agree with everything Obama does, Mccain would still have us seeing a 100 year war in Iraq with no end to it, while Mrs. Palin would quit when Putin raised his head over her’s an made bad comments about her abilities to Govern. You see Obama throwing in the towel at the bad media coverage or comments! Oreily and sean Hannity and wolf spew such nonsense and lie’s about Obama it makes your head spin in disgust. Hannity splice’s and dice’s Obama’s comments untill they turn into what he wants them to be! But, he don’t throw in the towel and cry like a baby, and quit! So, untill he does, don’t compair him to Sarah Palin quiting because of the media **** she’s giveing ya all to hear! What till the real reason comes out!
I mean – ask yourselves, you Sarah-lovers: How come that Repug stalwart, Kay Bailey Hutchison, or loonytunes Michelle Bachmann, for that matter, don’t rush to Sarah’s defense? Where is Laura Bush, Lynn Cheney, Liz Dole? Where is Condi Rice? Why aren’t they all out there telling us dirty phuhking hippies to lay off their darling Sarah?
Hmmmmmmmmmmm?
There is nothing authentic about Sarah Palin. She could reasonably called a sociopath. She committed herself to four years but decides that she can just up and walk away from the commitment. I am just grateful that she is not now VP. I wouldn’t put it past her to poison McCain to get the top job.
“I’d love a one on one with Sarah Palin. ”
Here’s what I want, Carole: I want to debate her. Give me 10 days and a debate coach and I’ll lay her out on any subject, up to and including field dressing a moose.
The site referred to by popcornvendor above, at 6:06 – henkimaa – and other Alaska progressive blogs are sharing information as we append the earlier henkimaa article, or come up with new ones, based on the spread sheet.
So, you should see a detailed analysis from an Alaskan’s perspective by morning at:
http://www.henkimaa.com/
WOW,all theae liberal ******** worring if Sara had got in the White House, They are too stupid to see this worthless ******* they voted in is killing this country. Liberal Democrats, always want something for nothing, They make me want to puke.
Forget Sarah. I nominate Tena for President.
Everyman, Please reread my post. Your statement that lawyers only get paid per hour is only true if the legal defense is outsourced. Greg’s point is that the in house permanent state lawyers did the work and that it is addressed in annual budgets. But this is misleading as their are still budgetary consequences of defending state employees as I pointed out. Now, one thing that might be investigated is whether Palin acted OUTSIDE her duties as Governor in any of these claims. I believe the state legislature investigation found this to be the case. If so, then Palin should have to pay for her own defense.
To me, this looks like a simple case of an unscrupulous public official being hounded out of office. She had to make up a lie (the lawsuits are costing the taxpayers too much) to cover for the real reason that she just can’t stand the heat that her unethical behavior has generated. This woman is truly a moron, and every time she opens her mouth, she confirms that. Her belief that there is a “Dept. of Law” at the White House, that would protect a vice president (herself) from lawsuits is so idiotic that it is worthy of nothing other than a Saturday Night Live skit. As low as my estimation of voting Americans is, I cannot imagine Palin capable of scraping together enough non-thinking drones to elect her to anything after what she has shown herself to be.
leave her and her family in peace?! all we want her and her family who echo her example of immorality, and party animal style life, and uneducated values and lies and prejudiced viewpoints against the lower 48, is to just fade out of all our lives so we can thank god that he kept a worst disaster than bush lineage from getting in the white house, but we never get any relief, she just keeps doing idiotic ramblings that the media insists on wasting coverage on this phychopath(in my opinion) so that we have to be terroized with the thought of something like them and their friends and backers having power to destroy this country with their ignorance, selfishness, and hostility toward some parts of america and other nations as well. They are the ones not wanting to be left in peace and their public attacks on everyone that brings up pertinant points about things they have done, proves it. They must all believe their own spin, that they are celebrities and all well liked by americans…..still too stupid to realize that to some of us, they represent some of the low class, no morals families that we moved elsewhere just so we did not have their influence on our growing children.
The funniest thing about people like you (and yes that means LIBERALS) is that you hate anything and anyone who doesn’t agree with your viewpoints 100%.
Pot. Kettle. Black.
Isn’t there a Department of Law in Alaska that can review these complaints and just toss ‘em out?
Thanks so much for posting this spreadsheet. Our local media hasn’t done anything on this.
Other Alaskans have pointed out some of its problems. Most importantly, it doesn’t list the costs spent on the complaint she filed against herself. It does list the cost of the Legislature’s inquiry into Troopergate–the one she originally welcomed before she realized it wasn’t going to be favorable.
Two other things: The Water Quality complaint was prompted when she opened her mouth and gave her opinion as a “private” citizen, saying she’d vote against. The initiative’s opponents immediately used that in their advertisements. That was a lot of money for an ill-considered comment.
Also, the state charges people for FOIA records requests. Last fall it was about $75/hour, which meant that when the AP asked for emails from state employees to her private Yahoo account, they were told it would cost $15 million. This spreadsheet doesn’t make clear whether these numbers subtract the fees people paid or whether they ignore them.
‘Why is everyone so engrossed in criticizing Sarah Palin? To keep the attention away from what is really going on in WA. Did Nancy Pelosi really need 6 days in Italy? What gov’t business was she attending to. How about all the travel to all the exotic places by out politicians. The travel has increased 50% since the Dems have taken over. Did Pelosi’s husband really do $1,000,000.00 worth of work for her? What kind of non profit business does she have, any tax dollars go into it? Was Diane Feinstein’s husband the only realtor in CA that could sell foreclosed homes? Gov’t seem to think he was, nice lucrative gov’t contract. I thought realtor’s got their money in the closing cost. Dodd in charge of the banking? Like leaving the rabbit to watch the cabbage patch. When Barney Frank quits blabbering, does anyone know what he is saying? Didn’t Biden’s brother get arrested for drugs? I think Sarah Palin is a gracious lady. Just because she doesn’t attend tea parties, or rub elbows with the rich and famous, does not make her illiterate. She just has better ways of spending her time.
sarah just says what serves her purpose at the moment. There is no past, so don’t dare to ask her about her previous comments or actions. There is no future, because that would require some thinking which gives her a headache. Perhaps she had some traumatic head injury as a child which actually isolates her from reality….she certainly acts like it. But don’t dare to point out the inconsistencies in her actions and/or comments…that’s “gotcha journalism”. The woman is like a trainwreck….you know it’s going to be a disaster, but, gee, it’s sure hard not to watch it happening.
Oh, yes, I meant to say this about her quitting.
Sarah Palin loved being governor. She just didn’t have any patience for governing. Every large newspaper in Alaska has editorialized that it’s been clear since August that her heart and mind haven’t been on Alaska, so it’s good that she’s leaving so we can get some work done. Amen to that. Anyone who thinks she’s done great things for Alaska doesn’t live here or is willfully ignorant. She’s done great things for herself, period.
I’ll be interested to see polling of Alaska residents about her “higher calling.” My guess is that her already plummeting approval figures took a big dive as soon as she made it clear that we are her lower calling.
Opinions by a foreigner living in USA:- I consider Obama as a new mold of politician. He is hated by many because he is molded differently. But the worst hatred goes to Palin because she is such a rare politician, not very highly educated and from an isolated location. Her brand of politics is honestly frank and unpredictable. Initially, I hated her and rejoiced in her tiny misteps during the campaign. I even brainwashed my wife not to listen to her. Lately, I think honestly and have the guts to accept that there are really no justifiable reasons why I should hate Palin. The majority of poiliticians in this country are way far worst than Palin. – Why I like to hate Palin like the majority of men and women in America? Like the rest of you I hated her for what she is to me, secretly deep in me. I was overwhelmed by her honest face, down-to-earth country attitude, her feminine look, her slf-confidence, her fame, her popularity. I hated her because I am not Todd Palin. I hated her because I want her to be my mother or my sister, or my daughter or the wife of my son or the mother of my son. I hated her because she cannot be what i want her to be. By being frank to the reasons why I hated her I then studied the gestures and reasons of those who hated her in TV shows. I easily noticed that many men and women hated Palin because she is an obsession to them. Come on, folks, be honest! The woman has minor faults yet we hated her because we are strongly covering our secret that we like her. At least I am honest now. How about you, guys?
Obviously a bunch of Palinistas who’ve logged on here just decided to spout their mind-already-made-up nonsense without reading anything in the original commentary.
John said @ July 8th, 2009 at 09:52 pm “More frivolous ethics complaints? Give it up. None of the previous complaints have stuck and she has been cleared of everything previously thrown at her.”
WRONG. A dozen of the ethics complaints had merit showing Palin violated one or more state statutes, but who made the decision to throw most of these complaints out?
Palin has a personally selected Personnel Board, 3 volunteers, whom she either retained from the previous administration, or whom she appointed herself. Not an independent commission by any means.
So, naturally, the results of most of the reviews of these complaints went Palin’s way.
She wasn’t able to con her way out of 2 ethics violations and one tax problem: She was forced to repay the state for unauthorized payment of state funds for her daughters travelling with her, despite there being no official capacity or duties for them. She was forced to pay back taxes on previously unaccounted for gifts. And she was censured by the state legislature for her part in “Troopergate” — but her Personnel Board came up with a more benign conclusion, of course.
Challenge to you know-it-alls: Name one person in this present government, including “Mr.” Barack Obama, who has not lied, cheated, thought only of him/herself, deceived or used his/her position to get personal gain! And how about yourself? Because you have nothing else to do but sit and tear apart the life of one person and her family opens you up to gossip and murder, which is not rewarded any better than all these other sins. I’ll leave you with one other thought….”He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her”.John 8:7
PalinNews: Supporters are painting their middle fingernail a bright RED. If you ask they will show you http://qwgw.u.cc
Thomas Van Flein, Palin’s attorney doesn’t appear to have done much to merit a $500,000 bill for services rendered.Other than to make personal appearances to the media on her behalf and manage the Troopergate investigation.
Four attorneys from the State of Alaska law department are attorney-of-record for various civil suits, two of which were reopened the last week of June.
As far as the ethics complaints – throughout the winter, various gatekeeper “independent” legal counsel announced that there was no merit to complaints. I have no idea what, if anything, was investigated.
Last fall, Alaska was invaded by a bunch of attorneys from Texas who sued Alaska’s publically-elected state representatives. Their services, on Palin’s behalf, were paid for by the Liberty Institute.
So I don’t know how the Palins could possibly owe $500,000. That’s a LOT of counsel.
I find it funny how in Buttercup’s cult, insulting Obama passes for defending Palin. On the Team Sarah chat board, racist jokes about Obama are allowed (but chat about s-e-x is not…) while a question about her resignation or these $2mil figures will get you called a “hater.”
Here’s another mythbuster:

In regards to the comment by Ryan who says “most of you don’t know what it’s like to raise a special needs child” well, I do and I’ll tell you what, Sarah Palin is a fake. Her whole “I’ll do what I can to take care of the special needs families” line during the campaign is what initially made me dislike her. Please PLEASE Ms. Palin, come commiserate with me as I go over the quarter of a million dollars in medical bills I have AFTER our insurance has picked up 75% of the cost from our son being born, please come tell me how hard you have it when you trying to decide between gas for your car to get to the specialists office or food for your family for the week. PLEASE come and commiserate with me while I cry over the fact that my son isn’t disabled enough to qualify for any state services yet he’s not “normal” either. While we’re at it, why don’t you start the “I’m so pro life dontcha’ know, I didn’t abort my special needs child” you know what? I’m staunchly pro choice and didn’t even think twice about giving birth to my special needs child. I don’t need/want any sort of recognition or praise for making a PRIVATE choice, yet Palin seems to need that, constantly. She’s the poster child for pro lifers “oh that Palin, she’s SO brave she didn’t abort her special needs child “neither did a lot of us and yet…we aren’t praised, we aren’t told what wonderful mothers we are…we just do our damn job as parents. She rubbed me the wrong way with her “I’m just like you other special needs parents” and continued to rub me the wrong way with her fake “dontcha know I’m just like you joe sixpack” bs. she’s NOT just like me, I’m not a bubble headed barbie doll who spews my parties’ bs like gospel.
mypraz, “Challenge to you know-it-alls: Name one person in this present government…who has not lied, cheated, thought only of him/herself, deceived or used his/her position to get personal gain!”
Oh. I see. Something has changed. It used to be denial, now it’s about everyone else has been dishonest, too.
Well, I don’t think we know who has used position for personal gain, unless they’ve been caught. Then we know, don’t we.
And once more, the definition of Narcissist is?
Palin heard from Cheney a week or two ago and talked to him about the resignation. Don’t know who called who. McCain had his hands tied with Palin. It was in the papers at that time, knowone picked it up apparently but I did. Sarah Palin was told she will be the V.P. pick last January, February before McCain even started vetting, wanted Leiberman but was told the base would not accept him and week or so before his knowing the base wouldn’t support him without Palin, he agreed. She had met many in the Party in Texas, D.C. other dinners for her and Todd at WH. So, she knew. She has been to D.C at least 4 times before Obama.
Another opinion by a foreigner: In all major publications I surveyed on-line this week, any story about Palin generates the most number of comments. On the average, the comments are 30% for Palin and 70% against Palin. The general vierw of positive comments is that Palin is the new type of politician worthy to activate the Republican Party. The general view of the 70% negative comments is a mixed north-south-east-west reasons with Palin in the center of it. It is impossible to get one or two main solid line/s out of the many negative comments. As we know, Palin is already defeated in the election many months ago and retreating, still she seems to be more interesting than the elected president.. Her pull to the majority of Americans to love her or hate her can already be considered as legendary. The many comments generated on stories about her are the concrete evidences. We like it or not, Palin has a magnetic persona that we just cannot ignore in this country. We like it or not, she is not a traditional politician, and a traditional politician is usually well-prepared to trick you average-minded Americans who frequent this column. You watch out! Palin brand of politics may be the answer to end the prevalence of corrupt and hypocrite American politicians as well as to begin to clean the morally-bankcrupt press who uses the freedom of expression to abuse your freedom of press. I love the old America and American ideals I learned in books. To my view, Palin in one of the few politicians here that a foreigner can listen sincerely and easily trust.
TO ALL PALIN SUPPORTERS: You say you’re part of the conservative base, and therefore, of Christian belief. Why is it OK to mock, ridicule and make racist comments about President Obama? You disagree–obviously–with his policies, yet isn’t he also a child of God? WHERE ARE YOUR CALLS TO STOP THE HATE SPEECH?? You’re a bunch of hypocrites. What would Jesus do—indeed.
This is my first time ever reading a blog. I am very concerned with the hate in most of the comments I have just read. Why are most of the people that write for this blog as well as the people that read this blog filled with so much hate? As all of us are entitled to our own opinions and we should have our own opinions, why are they sold as facts? For example, I believe in God as a Catholic but it doesn’t make me right, in my opinion their is a God and a heaven but I won’t know for sure until I die. To many people today take opinion as fact and its very scary, the real truth is we are reallying on people’s belief systems. Example, the right against the left, most people buy into one side or the other, these belief systems are opinions, most of the arguments on both sides are not filled with facts. I have news for both sides, you might be wrong. Use your head, really on yourself and do whats best for you and your family. Their is no special potion to make this a better world, its a better world when you become a better person. Worry more about yourself and stop being so judgmental
of others, none of us are perfect and because of that fact and that is a fact, people would be better off with encouragement. Help a neighbor and it will help yourself and that is my opinion. Have a great night
Sarah was scary when she potentially could have a been a heart beat away from the presidency. Now she’s exactly who the Dems hope will face off against Obama in 2012.She’s strong enough with the Repub base to win their support but that support will not materialize with independents. She is the kiss of death for the Republican party. One of the main concerns independents had with her was her inexperience. What can she possibly do now to address that?
Paul
Jesus would vote Obama, of course
I covered the Sarah Palin “I Quit” announcement on my blog a few days ago. In my opinion she demonstrates very curious symptoms that presented to a qualified psychiatric and/or psychologist would be in a better position to evaluate and to make a determination if medication would help her.
It certainly has proved quite interesting that so many who worked with her, or should it be “tried”to work with her have come forward to reveal just how difficult it was during the campaign. The experiences spoken about by those close to her raise serious questions about her abilities and even more importantly so,her inability to listen, learn and report that any experienced politician would without doubt follow to the letter.
Then again, ignorance and stupidity will never want for examples as long as fundamentalists and evangelicals exist!
TFR
Palin claims she came to her decision to quit by polling her children. They actually voted, she claims. All Yeahs, and one hell yeah. She claims their votes are the ones that really count in her life decisions.
I’m imagining her incharge of nuclear missles aimed at foreign lands, and her asking the children to vote.
The second thing is: Where is her husband in all this? She fails to mention him. He isn’t allowed to vote, so I suppose he just fishes and reads in the media how foolish his wife is acting.
Palin is the best representative I can think of: She is everything that is Wrong with our country. If we keep putting the weak, insane and frail incharge of our once wonderful country, there will be but ashes and smoke when we get taken over by whoever might be next in line to rule.
It ain’t gonna be pretty. In fact. If I was running things, pretty would not put you at the front of any of my lines. A pretty face and an empty head. I’m all for that. But it has it’s place. And at my age, I don’t go in those places anymore.
ZMann (came out of my shell)
21st century Conservatism is, plainly put, based on fear.
Just (another, sigh…) case-in-point is all of the ultra-conservative, ignorant yahoos clinging to *completely* idiotic, political “personalities”. Sarah Palin’s followers illustrate this. In NO rational, educated, sane world can Palin be seen as anything but a sub-amateur, reactionary rallying-persona for those who are complete idiots; people who know that their stupidity marks them as socio-political losers, but who aren’t smart enough to educate themselves, stop voting against their real interests, and to elevate themselves to a rational level of political discourse.
You Palin supporters are like toddlers whose binkies are taken away: you are babies. You can’t see that your development is stunted, and all you want is the familiar, soothing pacifier. Reaching the next stage of development is secondary (or completely unimportant, and fought against)in favor of feeling all safe and warm in your ignorance.
It has nothing to do with “East Coast” this or “Elite” that. It’s all about your need to be fed simplistic (if contradictory) nonsense that makes you feel safe in your laughable world of simple-minded and foolish infant feelings.
You fear the (maybe not so bad) unknown, you fear what your stupidity keeps you from understanding, and you fear a world that you see–everyday–leaving your ignorant viewpoints behind. You’re correct in noticing that last part.
How soon will it be till you nominate a cute puppy or a smiley face? How soon after that will you tell all rational, decent Americans that opposing those ridiculous signifiers is “Elitist”?
Go be afraid to yourselves.
Hmm.. if the Alaska state lawyers are spending their time defending Sarah Palin, then aren’t they in-fact costing the state money/resources? Maybe Greg missed an accounting class somewhere along the way…
The true reason she is quitting is that she has a secret sweet offer from Fox News. She will spend a couple of months after her resignation, then lo and behold, she will receive an offer from Fox to become a commentator. She will be making more money then she could ever leverage from politics, and be the Conservative Queen. The only one getting hurt will be Ann Coulter and who could get upset about that.
Well All I can say is about the boat being built Have any of you folks ever bought a gillnetter? if not shut your trap up when you get it its a hull that needs to be set up as you need see fit. up in these parts its called building a boat. unlike you folks down in South America AKA the lower 48 who buy a boat to go out on the weekend to slay a few largemouth bass. And I would like to say I havent heard of any other governor ever being attaced as she has on as much trivial **** as she has. Conflict of intrest about a shirt or jacket or whatever Comon folks get a life and be real we are loosing out civil liberties and you whine about a jacket with something on it? We are going unemployeed by the cities and you whine a supposed violation of a ethics law? sounds like maybe you need to expand your news and kill your tv and observe the rest of the country and go collect the next unemplyment check.
Hey Tena, Jesus even loves you.
RE: John A, That the South is stupid.
I’m not sure if I should point out that if we are it is because of all the transplants from the Northeast, Midwest, and North; or should I point out that we are the ones who are smart enough to have the jobs, the industry, and the economies that all of you are trying so hard to take advantage of. The bottom line is this country has turned stupid. That is what happens when you continually shy away from what is right and instead decide that the uneducated and those who have no stake in the laws which are passed are allowed to have equal say to those who are educated about an issue, and do have a stake. And before you ask-yes I am Republican, I am anti-health care reform, anti-cap and trade,anti-tax increase. I am pro-business, pro-states’ and personal rights, pro-personal and states’ responsibility, and pro-small federal government. I believe in equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome, not everyone is meant for college, and while it is wonderful that almost anyone can be anything in this country, somebody still has to dig the ditches, not everybody can own the company. As soon as we get away from teaching our children that certain jobs are undignified and unworthy of respect, the better off we will be. There is no such thing as dihonorable work, only dishonorable workers. I guess I should qualify the “no dishonorable work…” statement. Yes there are a few- drug dealer, hitman, abortionist, career criminal, IRS agent, telemarketers, and probably a few others. But the point is janitors, farm workers, laborers, etc. are not undignified professions or people.
Palin is the very best thing that could happen to the United States. She is too stupid to hide what all the neo-cons really are about: simplistic answers to complex problems, fear-mongering to unite the base and self-serving actions that border on treasonous when they are sworn into public office. Even Faux News will have a hard time putting a good face on this when the REAL reason for her leaving is revealed.
I’m wondering if the drug-addled gas bag who is the leader of the Party of No will continue to defend her when the truth emerges. I think we should be mindful of the fact that she could be satan himself and half of the Party of No would vote for her.
The good news is that a large majority of the US population is bright enough to see that Palin is just saying the things that the rest of the Party of No believes… she’s the REAL republican. Remember that when it comes to the mid-term elections, now only about 16 months away. Sweep these idiots out of office so we can get something done now that we have a President is isn’t dumb as a sack of nails.
Palin is perfect for us – watch her, contemplate what it would be like if McSame had won, and remember that there’s hundreds just as stupid as them all over the country. Time to get ready to flush them all.
ya know while we are joking about how Sara would just have a dept of law to toss out ethics complaints from the white house, has any body nothiced the news about the current presidents birth certificate? the State of Hawaii would not accept the one posted on the web for anything except the lowest level transactions and we are supposed to accept it? yep uh hu I quit high school before they could finnish making me totally Ignorant, by the way stupid is forever ignorance can be adjusted
Terri Barker – She is not a hillbilly, she is a flatlander. Being a hillbilly is a geographical connection, not a mentality. Please don’t insult us hillbillies by linking us to her. And Joyce in Georgia – I’m not scared of Sarah – I celebrated when McCain tapped her for VP. It was the best thing that he could’ve done for the Obama campaign.
Hey folks chew on this for a bit: There is a differance between an optimist and a fool.An optimist is somebody who looks at bleak facts and decides to make the best of the situation that they can. A fool on the other hand is somebody who looks at bleak facts and decides to ignore them because they are to upsetting? So what camp do are from?

I can remember more than one prize fighter walking from the ring to come back later and kick some much needed butt…even stopping a fight midway and walking to the heckles and catcalls.dont take my word for it go and study it yourself I might just be tapping keys here
I must be very tired.I remember reading in the constution that we are Garrenteed the right to pursue happiness. Nowhere does it say its assured!!We do need to impose term limits on all elected officials 3 terms max the get a real job that includes the Judges at all levels. and no lifetime benifits for them either, Our system was never set up for carrer polititions, Long live the Repulic of the USA.
Amazing isn’t it? Kathleen Sebelius resigns as Governor of Kansas to join Obama and nothing is said about her defection. And here, how about the great Rahm Emanuel:The Honorable Rahm Emanuel announced his intention to not take his seat in the 111th Congress, which convened on January 6, 2009. Funny how the President can spend all our money, shoot unemployment to 9.5%, and all the libs can do is attack Palin. Amazing, Joe Biden can say we underestimated the recession after saying how certain they were that unemployment would not go above 8%. All you Sarah haters better start worrying about your future and your kids future because Jimmy Carter is looking like a genius thanks to the Obama admin. Remember, Jimmy Carter is the reason Reagan was so successful. You were all scared of Ronnie and talked about him the same way you do Sarah. History does repeat itself. 10 years of stimulus didn’t work in Japan, stimulus 1 is already in the toilet here.Sarah may just flush all of you.
Time for the third party in our country Vote libertarion…
Thanks Jeff for bringing that up call your local talk show about that one
Can someone tell me why it is gotta media when the truth is documented and pointed out?
Sarah Palin has been dishonest all along but some would rather bash the media than to hold her accountable. I guess some people can’t handle the truth.
Sarah Palin is not ready for primetime and she really can’t be that bright to lie and expect no one to investigate especially since the her record in Alaska would be public knowledge.
For all their talk about “tolerance”, “honesty” and “diversity”, the Palin-bashing liberals are the most hateful, intolerant, mindlessly hypocritical bunch of fascists in existence. They’re so jacked-up about someone who “might” become POTUS, yet they ignore the ethical and other pecadillos of those who are _already_ in the top three slots – there’s plenty of shady stuff surrounding the Obamas, Biden and Pelosi, but you never hear about it by all these “enlightened” types on the blogs. I don’t see/hear the conservatives resorting to the hateful name-calling, nor the mindless repeating of warmed-over lies from the campaign (example: Her take on the “Bush Doctrine” wasn’t perfect – but neither was Charlie Gibson’s, yet except for Charles Krauthammer, nobody mentions that.) Also, watching the Gibson interview, you could see that it was clearly spliced together, yet it wasn’t represented as-such. A lot of the accusations against Palin have been proven outright lies, but libs seem to be confident that their ends justifys their means, as well as all their just-plain-meanness. Lots of accusations, insults, and condescending cracks about how stupid conservatives are – but with all the libs “hope” & “change”, they’ve functionally destroyed our nation’s financial future by blithely spending and printing currency that will be worth a fraction of it’s value (or worthless, period) in a matter of months. I hope you libs can eat your insults – there won’t be much else when this tax-funded Ponzi scheme of an economy implodes.
I love it when people tell us to leave her and her family alone. That isn’t what she wants. She is trying to lead the charge against Obama and she can do that better without the responsibilities of the office she was elected to. She can’t run in 2012 when people see she ran Alaska into the ground. She needed to cut and run so she can sit and lob grenades at people who are actually trying to do something. She is a joke and if she runs in 2012 she hands Obama his second term.
You can tell a republican by the way they talk and write. The very first thing they do is name calling. I guess it must be really hard for them to have an intellectual conversation without talking points since they have been dumbed down by the GOP and are no capable of thinking for themselves.
Jon, Jon, Jon. You don’t think the conservatives are hateful and resort to name calling with Obama? Get your head out of your rear. And no one faces more scrutiny then the top three Dems. To suggest they are just getting away with it because no one cares is ridiculous. It’s a lot easier to criticize then to be part of the process. I used to hate when Hillary Clinton complained about being attacked from the right and Palin made fun of her for it, and now she is doing the exact same thing. Blaming it all on a left wing conspiracy to discredit her. She doesn’t make it real difficult.
Sarah Palin is the most simple minded public figure I have ever come across in my entire life; to think of the fact that this is happening in the United States of America beats my imagination; actually, I take that back because it is only happening withing the “Dumb” fraction of the Republican party. This woman opens her mouth and all she is spewing is ignorance! She is a disgrace to womanhood, and I say this as a woman. Her intentions are to drag us bag to the stone ages, meanwhile the most annoying aspect of everything is that she is a HYPOCRITE!!!
She preaches abstinence to others while her own child is having ***. if her daughter did not listen to her (that is if she ever talked to her), why should America listen to her? After all, charity begins at home!
My take on her resignation are in 3 parts:
1) She wants to avoid an imminent scandal
2) She wants to run for Senator Murkowski’s seat
3) She wants to cash in on her “Perceived” celebrity.
Whatever the case, I DO NOT WISH HER WELL!!! She is a lying , self serving hypocrite.
Do you think S. Palin can see Obama from her house right now?
Check this out, I just read it:
http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/mining-the-headlines/200809/sarah-psychopath
please already!sarah doesn’t have aclue how to run alaska, the nation etc.same failed philosophy as george w.bush, john mccain etc.but she is attractive.maybe she could have a talk show,or be a reporter on fox news or something.than she can show off her only assets her looks and her legs.archer.ha ha.
I think she’s going to be getting a message from god, that she should become a televangilist. She’ll be able to make lots of money and be as stupit as she wants to be, and the fans will love it. She reminds me a lot of Tami Fae Baker – remember her?
What’frightening is that over 50 million people in this country voted for an uninformed senial old geezer and his airhead beauty queen sidekick to be our next Commander and Chief and goodball in waiting. Sarah may go way, and the Republican Party may be self-destructing, but those uneducated and uniformed superstitious imbeciles are still out there walking among us, and that my friends is a very scary proposition to the future of this country. When you combine religion, guns and ignorance, it makes for a toxic combination that could ultimately bring down our great nation, once and for all. How can we thrive as a nation in this global economy with so many unelightened and superstitious idiots living here?
jim in seattle: The true reason she is quitting is that she has a secret sweet offer from Fox News. She will spend a couple of months after her resignation, then lo and behold, she will receive an offer from Fox to become a commentator.>>
Right on, Jim! She’s smart enough (only just) to know that she has no future in politics, and no one believes for a minute that she’s interested in spending more time with her family.
She just can’t resist the cameras. After all, that’s what she went to college(s) for. Lock-n-Load Barbie is running the Iquitarod, and Alaskans are winning.
Just one time, I’d like for the opposite side of the debate to come to the table with a calm rational perspective on why they feel so strongly in support of Sarah Palin. I would like to hear it. I would like to hear a real explanation, with real reasons. Perhaps there’s something that’s been missed. Perhaps the media is biased.
I would like to know. Really.
Yes, PLEASE read the Psychology Today article – demonstrating yet again how unstable some of these so-called “mental health professionals” will prostitute themselves and their profession to achieve a political end. If you are going to waste your time reading the article, then also take the time to read the scathing comments left by colleagues who rightfully saw this hit-piece for what it was. You also get treated to some comments from individuals whom I can only describe as “in need of professional help”.
It is perfectly possible that she just does not understand this basic fact about how her own state government works, isn’t it?
So, she’s either making up an excuse for her action or she’s dangerously under-qualified and uninformed. I’m not sure which is more likely to be true.
Schoenfelder: Compare the vitriol being dished by the Palin-haters with those of us who are calling for a reality-check. Not only is your response more of the same condescension, but you misrepresented what I said. Not a surprise, really.
“To suggest they are just getting away with it because no one cares is ridiculous. ” – I never said it was because no one cares – I said it’s being ignored by all these sensitive caring spirits who have a Sarah-fixation.
If she is really the “end of the Republican Party”, why do you care…you’re clearly scared to death that she is more than viable politically. Thou doth protest too much, methinks.
Michael Reeves: For being such an enlightened chap, you certainly seem to have trouble with basic spelling. As for trying to equate religious faith and gun ownership with ignorance, you’re just spouting more of the same liberal mantra that denies history, common sense and reality. It’s these “unenlightened” people who actually make things happen in this world, probably far more that you ever will accomplish in your lifetime. Is that what hurts you so much that you have to resort to more name-calling? Please, do try to grow-up.
Palin quits as Gov?
Apparently the pit bull with lip stick wasn’t that tough after all!
Perfect example of why, with this kind of leadership, the Republican party is now irrelevant.
You got it right, Sean. Sarah Palin’s presence on the polital scene is an insult to the intelligence of all Americans everywhere. But — I can’t help reading everything I see about her. I figured out why, it’s the combination of two reasons: (1) The prospect of her holding any posit5ion of leadership is so scary that I feel better knowing everything I can – it’s like walkin past a scary dog, of course your eyes are going to be glued to the dog; (2) She is physically attractive so it is easy to look at her. Notice that every news article you see has a photo. Sorry to sound bad but in 2009 America, if she was ugly there would be no stories. I don’t like having that said about my behavior any more than you do, but it i still true.
OK so I just resd my last post after it went online. Before anyone starts verbally assaulting me for using a dog as an analogy – it’s just the first thing that came to mind. Don’t try to read between the lines or read anything inappropriate into it. That would be showing how your mind works, not mine.
AND I am using one of these darned netbooks – the keys are the size of shirt buttons.
What I find quite unbelievable in all the story of the ethics complaints…..it would seem downright silly to believe that any state government is not equipped to deal with ethics complaints. And in this case, goodness, it’s Alaska. And we are all aware of the number of ethics issues that have been investigated, Palin aside. And there’s Palin herself, no stranger to making accusations of ethics violations.
This part of the story has simply never added up. Unless of course Palin is simply a wimp. For example, the Obama birth certificate issue, a non issue if ever there was one as to believe the story requires extreme leaps and belief that a conspiracy existed, even when Obama was a baby. Now, that all started when Obama was a candidate. And let’s not forget people have filed over this non and idiotic issue.
Then, we also know that Palin is given to playing fast and loose with the truth and made some rather interesting statements during the 2008 campaign. Like Obama ‘palling around with terrorists’. Honestly, Palins reasons are either a complete fabrication or she is really just a delicate wilting flower, not even close to the lipstick wearing hockeymom with the attitude of a pitbull.
Yet, Palin seems to expect that people should simply accept whatever she says with any critical evaluation.
Seriously, a village in Alaska is missing an idiot.
Make me seriously worry about those who idolize her.Or even voted for her. Our education system has failed us! Scary!!
You guys spend all your time talking **** about Sarah Palin and don’t say a word about Obama leaving the Senate after 1 year to campaign for President. He has never governed anything before. He just cozied up to the ACORN group. Money goes through them like water and no one is accountable for where it goes. The 33 Czars appointed by Obama… unaccountable to anyone. No one knows where the stimulis money is going. You would follow Obama straight to hell and do anything he says. The Germans did that in the 1930’s. They didn’t question Hitler’s actions until it was too late. Then if you did you would probably be shot. You have Joe Biden saying the White house didn’t know what it was doing in one breath and saying we need a second stimulus package in another. Nancy and her buddies are writing bills that no one reads and congress is bullied into passing them by Obama and the fish man. The premise is it can’t wait because time is of the essance. We are rushing into this head on because one man says so. What is his track record? The government is out of control and all you ***** about is Sarah Palin.
If you cared anything about this country and where it’s going, you could at least question the powers that be in this ‘Who Runs Gov’ blog.
Forget Palin for a second..i am scared to death of the Republican base if this is what they feel is the best to offer in 2012.She will be severely trounced by Obama in 2012 and any other Democrat they wish to wheel out.The base may be behind her but the country is fed up with her. It’s like she is a child crying cause they have taken away her toys.
You mean she lied?
If you haven’t read the excellent & in-depth accounting by Mel Green regarding the true cost of Palin’s ethics investigations, please go to the following link:

It is very well researched & complete with charts, graphs & citations. A number of people have been trying to get the MSM to check it out – hopefully it pays off.
Joyce:
How is a lying, mealy-mouthed buffoon and quitter like Palin “a fresh voice”? You are tone deaf, or worse. Plain facts are being reported about her, and you don’t seem to understand what’s being reported, possibly because you find actual details too tiring. Let me break it to you: the truth is in the details. Read what’s posted about Palin’s spreadsheet at http://www.henkimaa.com. For failing to understand what’s being reported about Palin, and proudly saying you’re a “right winger” (ho hum re any reference to “wingers”), you mark yourself as not being an adult, so you probably ought to stay out of the discussion until you’ve grown up and have developed the ability to look past a person’s public persona, and look at what other people say about them, and develop the skills to figure out if what they’re saying is true. If all you can add to the discussion is that you think a liar and quitter of her calibre is a fresh voice, you have nothing to add. Do you really believe Obama is more arrogant than Palin? Have you been following what she’s been saying over almost the past half-year, and how she’s said it? Her statements have been the height of arrogance.
The same degree of examination Palin is being subjected to, should be focused on all people in public office, of whatever party. We focus on Palin here because the subject here is Palin.
Sarah Palin was in various beauty contests years ago. There, she learned, or merely honed, her skills related to speechifying (if not outright lying), looks vs brains, etc. The polls that were done right after McCain picked Palin as his running mate, showed Palin scored much higher with men than women–undoubtedly, many of these were easily deluded men who liked her looks (which several comments posted here confirm), and decided to take her at her word, regardless of any evidence that detracted from her statements (typical of many lovestruck moon-eyed guys). For the women, she said things like she was a hockey mom–a surprising number of women (aside from the ones who saw right through her) said they liked her, believed her, and would vote for her based on simple things like this that they could “relate to”. For both men and women, Palin came up with a lot of phony facts, tired, cliched calls for lower taxes and less government spending (though all Republican administrations starting at least with Reagan have taxed and spent massively more than Democrats), innuendos about the intentions and qualifications of “the other side” (divisiveness), lies about how she handled Alaska’s economy, etc., all of which made her sound good and “fresh”, as long as you didn’t look into whether what she said was true. In many elections, at least half of all voters operate according to what are, for them, easy to track (in other words, lazy) markers like this, that they think tell the truth about someone–their looks, their surface statements, their appeal to various entrenched groups, etc.–while the politician plays them like a harp, exploiting their simple minds. I guess these voters live in communities where everyone is as upstanding as a Garrison Keillor community, and stories about underhandedness among people are considered tall tales about far-away lands, or about anyone who isn’t a Republican or a “right winger”. Never mind the stories about Palin’s husband being a member of an Alaskan separatist movement, or the fact that she once spoke in front of that crowd, praising them, or other real indicators of a person’s character or intent, like those reported here–what hockey mom would dare cross the line and engage in acts like that?
Some people think that thinking the best about someone, with friendly trust, is a sign of their own good character, but too often the character trait it shows is a childish unwillingness to think like an adult, and look underneath someone’s public persona.
Joyce, the reason that intelligent people go after Palin so much, is not just out of fear–it’s partly out of sheer revulsion, of the sort that gets directed at ANY public figure who constantly lies and makes statements about all kinds of things that reflect a twisted personality; and partly because we do, indeed, fear the damage that liars, schemers, quitters, and frankly un-American people like Palin can do to the minds of the less intelligent such as yourself, and get your uninformed vote to influence elections, not just at the national level, but at all levels of government, to put other destroyers in office.
Comments here from Brian Boru and Marie Cepeda, prove some of my points. Brian says: “As for Palin herself, she’s hated by the left because she is the ideal American woman…She married a man’s man and is raising a family, while at the same time climbing her way up the political ladder as a result of her strong will to succeed. She is everything the bitter women representing the feminist movement are not, yet she is stronger (and better looking) than all of them combined.”
Palin is by no means the ideal American woman. The ideal American woman wouldn’t have committed the real ethical violations that she’s been accused of. All but one of the 15 or so complaints against her, were anything but frivolous. Marrying “a man’s man” is irrelevant to public office, and prove nothing about qualifications for such. Many women raise families without being as duplicitous as Palin. “Climbing the political ladder” and having a “strong will to succeed” should not be excuses to tread on her electorate, the truth, etc. Few women in the feminist movement, in my experience, are bitter in the ways you seem to think, if at all, and many are much stronger than Palin, who quit her job as governor of Alaska. And then you give another clue where your head is at: “…and better looking than all of them combined.” I’d recommend you grow a real set of balls instead of the adolescent ones you currently own.
Marie Cepeda runs on in the same vein as Brian Boru:
“She is a career woman, a mother, businesswoman, elected official, community advocate, supporter of special needs, feminie, a go getter, independent thinker, nurturing, beautiful in and out, and with many female instincts.”
Again the emphasis on “feminine”. I like feminine too, but I hate to see it muddied by behavior like Palin’s, which has been anything but feminine. When I see that mix in a woman, I see it as feminism betrayed. I run from such examples of the “feminine”, since it’s not much more than a black widow spider’s. If you must insist on femininity as a desirable trait in our elected female officials, there are plenty of attractive women who don’t have the issues that Palin has. But who, with any real common sense, cares? Politics is not about femininity. I don’t want someone who looks like a Playboy bunny, but not as smart, honest, or ethical as many of them, serving in public office just because she’s pretty. Why some men and women who call themselves adults, use this as a major qualifier for public office, is beyond me, except when I realize these people CALL themselves adults, but aren’t. Kind of like Palin calling herself this and that, but not really being this or that.
Joe @ July 8th, 2009 at 09:53 pm:
Before you speak about California’s economic problems, do a little research. A major reason California has money problems is due to an initiative process that allows voters to approve state projects, but also allows them to vote no on the taxes, etc. needed to raise money for those projects, and most Republicans tend to vote no on those taxes, etc.; and the state has a constitutional provision that requires all budget matters the legislature votes on, be approved by a 60% supermajority, allowing the Republicans, as they usually do, to prevent the California budget from passing until it’s been gutted. Also, I’ve lived in California since 1966, and find your labeling California as the most liberal state with the highest taxes is absurd. Years ago, a Republican, Howard Jarvis, managed to convince enough voters who weren’t thinking straight, to pass a law that reduced property taxes to an absurd level, and California has been feeling the effects ever since.
gil cons:
Adjectives applied to people like Palin, such as “frank”, “fresh”, “unpredictable”, “down to earth”, “feminine”, etc. are adolescent. Pay attention to what she says, not how she says it, and not how she looks when she says it, and instead investigate whether what she says is true, makes sense, etc. She’s not the first person to come across as “fresh”, who turned out to be anything but, who managed to deceive and pull down a lot of people along the way. Very few people “hate Sarah Palin” because they secretly like her, want her to be their mom, lover, etc.–your analysis is just plain strange, and as I say, adolescent. Try doing some investigating, and don’t limit your investigation to supposed info provided by your political party, friends, Fox News, etc.
The most disturbing thing about the Palin party selection was not her lack of knowledge about the office she wanted, but the fact that Republicans had better choices but chose to go “maverick”. In the 2008 selection process, deciding which candidates have more integrity and ability to perform the job (even if I do not agree with all of their policies), Obama and Biden had the goods – integrity, ability, and then some. Palin’s pimps – Rush Limbaugh and Anne Coulter – are merely the political versions of Hulk Hogan and Madonna – shadows and false images.
I can only think McCain picked Palin as running mate for no other reason than her entertainment value for the Republican “base.”
Base is right.
Reading some of the comments, I am afraid that the party of Lincoln, Roosevelt, Eisenhower, and Reagan has been reduced to the likes of Palin, McCain, Bush, Cheney, Quayle, and Dole? Jack Kemp is the only decent candidate they have run for PRES or VP in 20 years. BTW, Clinton, Kerry, Edwards, and Gore are not much to be proud of either. People need to look at issue and competence, and not image.
Face it Palin is under a lot of stress, she is a granny and a new mommy at the same time! Duh, its fishing season too! Since she’s into home schooling maybe she can show the girls what a condom is since she’s not busy running the state and getting elected and stuff like that there
Get a life. Try looking into the That commie Muslim you D.A.’s elected Pres. Largest deficet ever,100 Mill. a day in interest.
So you’re saying Palin lied to use and played the victim? Color me shocked.
To simply dismiss it as a fixed cost is intellectually dishonest. It doesn’t change the fact the state has spent that money doing exactly what she said.
What business doesn’t break down the time its employees spend and then try to contain or reduce those costs? (Oh yeah, government… they have no cost containment motive)
You can make a lot of criticisms about Palin, McCain Bush, Cheney, Obama, or Biden… as they are all pretty much carbon copies of each other, but this isn’t a fair one.
I think the reason for the left winger media hatred for Sarah Palin is that she is the only real republican threat to their dreamy utopia. Yes I would still vote for her for president. How could anyone do worse than what is going on right now. Cap and Trade, Health Care, the economy…wow it’s kicking butt, “You betcha”. Ideology isn’t impressing me. I guess this is the “Change” you were dreaming about. Lucky for me, I’m still employed, but I’m willing to bet my company will be in line to dump health care soon. And what about those Bermuda tax hiders… where are they now Utopians? I guess they all found new havens in Ireland and Switzerland, I guess your really going to get the rich. Such fantacies… I wish I could wake up to your world everyday.
boy im glad shes gone hope she stays gone what and airhead
Just a quick read of the comments from right tells me that they have come completely unhinged. It seems that they have yet to learn the lessons of their last two defeats. They are still using the same mindless, empty insults and are not offering anything in the way of substance. I can almost see them seething in anger as their fingers mash down on the keyboard. Like foaming mouth rabid animals they continue to hurl the same garbage about Obama that they did during the campaign.
It is said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result. It would seem that insanity has take over the right wing of this country. Is it any wonder that moderate Republicans are fleeing the party in droves? Soon all that will be left of the party of Lincoln are a bunch of kooks who have wrapped themselves in the flag so tightly that it’s cutting off blood to their brains.
This revelation is no surprise, as truth and facts are two things for which Sarah Palin has little regard.
The Ethics Board has reported how much they spent on their investigations of complaints against Sarah. As I remember it, it was under 400,000 and a large chunk of that was spent on the Troopergate complaint Sarah lodged against herself so the board she appointed could could give her a better outcome than the investigation overseen by the bi-partisan legislative panel.
I don’t think the Dept of Law is involved in ethics complaints. They are involved in reviewing and redacting emails under public records requests and I think that that is what is resulting in the hours that get close to the 2 million. I have read that there are still 12 requests made last Fall that have not yet been filled. Sarah seems to gloss over that fact. I guess it sounds better to say all that money is spent on frivolous ethics complaints rather than it is spent on the public’s right to know what is going on in my administration. Probably included in that amount is lawyers time when they went to court to try to keep their private email accounts private. They lost and so having to pour over those private accounts is probably adding to the hours it is taking for the Dept of Law.
The term “Gotcha media” is gaining some steam amongst the right-wing anti-”liberal”-media crowd as some sort of damning insult that makes the target (the media) a villain and the issuer a hero.
What the term does not do is exonerate the issuer from the illegal/unethical behavior that the media “got” them at. It’s sort of like a bank robber declaring that the “Gotcha police” were the real problem in society, not his illegal activity.
Greg, you are obviously part of the ‘gotcha media’ for spreading this
Well, well…I for one support her and think that it is about time someone told the media to shove it. The current administration continually lies and screws up yet gets a pass from the press…hmmmmmm. Could it be a double standard? Nahhhhh, because I am sure an hispanic woman would make better decisions than a white male…could the CIA be lying about Pelosi…perhaps Biden is really a genious in disguise…I may have a unicorn and a rainbow in my back yard when I get home today. Who knows? I will close with this quote…”A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government.”
This is for all you Obama lovers. Where is the millions of jobs he created?? Where is all the tax breaks?? Where is anything he promised?? Oh, we are in the RED a hell of a lot more now. And you have the nerve to throw stones at Palin??
My wish is to see her in 2012 and evict Obama’s butt out!!!!!
Sarah Palin is a lightweight who never should have been a candidate for such a high office. She can’t stand the heat in Alaska, and she has no business in Washington D.C. I really hope she fades from view.
Sarah, go skin a moose and leave politics forever.
Palin should have mentioned in her resignation speech how she’s cost the state of Alaska hundreds of thousands of dollars for dubious travel expenses for her family from trips where they were not invited. And if that weren’t bad enough, billing Alaskans for time she lived in her own home in Wasilla, when she’s provided a home in the state capital. She’s a real disgrace to the state of Alaskans for her lies and distortions. It’s almost as if she isn’t aware of the multiple news sources that report on the facts. Oh right, I forgot, it’s the gotcha media and the liberal media (like the Republican centric Fox news) that are out to smear her. This woman is really great news for the GOP!
I’m not going to defend Palin or the Republican party. I really don’t trust many of those people in national government and few in local governmant. I am curious as to why you floks as a group can’t see how this same criticism of Palin and Republicans can be applied to the Democrats in D.C. Just change the names in some of this vitrol and see what you get. The lot of these people of both national parties have been selling us down the road for power. The 4th was Independence Day. When was the last time you felt independent. You folks apparently think they just want to control the other guy’s life. Watch your back.
Georgia in NC – I find it very amusing that you refer to Palin’s followers as ignorant and possibly the type to join a cult. Leading up to the election, the majority of ignorant voters came from the democratic party. I actually heard one voter say “He could be our first black president, I have to vote for him.” Maybe they should just put the issues on a ballot and you vote on them, a computer then chooses the appropriate candidate based on your VALUES, not political affiliation.
“A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government.” Hmmmm. My ultra-conservative cousin made a remark about the coup in Honduras, to the effect that if the government isn’t doing what you want, you have the right to overthrow it. She called it a “fun fact.” Sounds like wingnut drum beat is going out. If led by the incoherent Sarah d’Alaska, I’m not so scared.
Great job on the reporting of this completely inconsequential story and congratulations to all you nimrods eating up this Palin “controversy”! Keep on being distracted while our economy continues to go down the toilet because of the Obama Depression and the world becomes even more unstable due to a weakening US!
Wow – the left-wing, entitlement crazy, nothing is my fault idiots who voted for Obama are really scared of this lady.
I personally LIKE the fact that she is not a LAWYER, but a regular person who does on occasion make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes and if you think that you don’t, your are either lying or a fool – you pick. At least she speakes her mind and can communicate without a teleprompter telling what her position is. That is what endeers her to the American public, she is like us, not some professional politician or lawyer who hasen’t a clue of what real life is about.
Perhaps the lawyers could have worked on something else, but the money never would have gone to “roads and schools.” If only someone had had the power to propose legislation to close that loophole that allowed for frivolous complaints against the executive branch. Oh wait–Sarah DID. Yet another example of how she’s so focused on herself that she can’t solve a problem.
I’ll never understand why people aren’t appalled by Palin. Did any of you even read the REAL Troopergate report? How many of you would consider it appropriate to install your spouse as a fixture in your office, with his own phone line? How many of you would allow your spouse to spend 50% of his time at your office? With that amount of time, either she knew what he was doing (trying to get Wooten in trouble) or she’s completely clueless about what goes on in her own office! Hasn’t she ever heard of “conflict of interest?” This is not normal. This is the behavior of someone who thinks the rules don’t apply to her.
How many of you would collect per diem for living in your own home?
How many of you would actually charge your employer for your children’s travel because you want to take them along when traveling on business?
These are just *basic ethical values* that most employees understand that Sarah just flaunts as if she’d never heard such things.
She told the truth about one thing: it ain’t “politics as usual.” She’s managed to show entire new ways of bilking the taxpayers, avoiding her duties, and embarrassing herself. She’s the classic definition of a narcissist.
I lived in Alaska for five years and saw this train wreck in person. Do not be fooled by her folksy ****.
Not enough entertainment news for you folks? The lady decided to quit her job and did so. All of this speculation about what are her intentions….what is she really thinking….what is she really up to…let’s think of all the possibilities and talk about it for hours….? Its silly. Don’t we have better things to do? She will do as she pleases, and if she decides to “come back”, then she will. If she doesn’t, then she doesn’t. Doesn’t anyone out there have any work to do?
What this “article” fails to mention is that there have been 15 total ethics complaints filed, and that 12 have been dismissed so far, leaving 3 outstanding. The “article” provides the net amount of pending complaints, not the gross amount of complaints which were filed. Nice try.
The real reason is explained by someone who would know: She is hoping by resigning she will not be prosecuted for embezzlement. Plain and simple. The contractor who supplied materials and labor for her lake home subsequently got the contract for the frivolous hockey rink Palin pushed through in her home town. She is a liar and a hypocrite.

Hi Brian. People who appalled by Palin and repelled by her politics don’t hate because she had a baby with Downs Syndrome. They hate that she tries to deny other women the choice she made herself. She said herself that she considered an abortion, then decided against it. I respect her decision go ahead with a challenging pregnancy, and take on the difficult task of raising a special needs baby. If that’s her choice, more power to her. What I don’t like is her inclination to deny the “choice” to others and force this same decision on other women. She and others who are trying to outlaw abortion under all circumstances, are working to force women other than herself to carry through pregnancies even if their health or life is at risk. This is one of the key problems with Palin.
I’m also not sure why you find her to be ideal. I don’t dislike her on a personal level; she reminds me of a wacky aunt I had once, who was lovable for being such a klutz. Personal eccentricity, an amount of wackiness, is valued here in the Frontier State where we elected her. But letting a nutty lady who can’t think or speak coherently much of the time, move on to setting policy on the national level, is what many of us find disconcerting.
Most here call Palin a liar all Polititions lie except a very Few but nobody can dispute that Obama seems to be after the worlds record on lying or just doing everything behinds everyones backs want to talk about somebody that shouldn’t be in Politics Talk Obama even recently on his trip to Russia the Russians caught on to his BS right away
Sarah has trained us already. She is a henny penny reactionary. All we need do is look at what was going on just prior to the announcement of cut and run……the Vanity Fair article. THAT is what she knee jerked about. What I see now???the Media really shaping the person……. The main media is no longer really about reporting…news these days is pundits and opinion. Like Obama said, we can already anticipate a persons view just by knowing the name.
BIG GOP supporter Dr. Laura would tell Sarah to address her Family Service, then enter Public Service. Working with special needs parents and care givers, that family plate is full.
That is where I would like to see the Palin’s succeed at this point in their lives…..
your headline that sara’s reason for resigning may be false encourages me to say that everything obama has ever said may be a lie also
Here’s something about the blogger where they got their sources as truth about Sarah Palin. You know, seems like bloggers articles are being taken seriously as truth by the Liberals. She’s the one that owns the Henkimaa blogsite that everyone get their facts about Sarah’s ethics complaints amount.
A little background about the Blogger :
About me
You can learn all sorts of other stuff about me from reading this blog, but here’s some of the basic data.
Melissa S. Green for long, Mel Green for short: a workaday workadyke of the north; ***** but not narrow. I was born & raised in Montana (1959–1977), the youngest of four kids; attended college in Massachusetts (1977–1981); and, except for a three-year exile to Seattle (1987–1990), have been a resident of Anchorage, Alaska since 1982. I & my partner of 16 years, Rozz, raised her nephew Jesse from age 9; he’s now a pretty terrific 21-year old in a training program at Job Corps — & I’m stuck taking care of his dog. I’m a cat person myself.
>>>> Also, if you check all her links regarding Palin before her selection by John McCain, ITS EMPTY!

How about visit http://www.rense.com for some ideas whats really going on ????
I too believe just like Chris …Greg, you are obviously part of the ‘gotcha media’ for spreading this. WalterNeff, how many of those 1200 were men and quit because they were thinking with the “wrong head” and had to step down… talk about something “unethical”? John Sawyer, I think your a lost soul! Florence, you haven’t raised many kids have you?Jon S and Jon great words of wisdon. Tena, your just scary. An educated women that looks down on others? Leadership is not learned, it’s earned. Take a trip to IRAN and see how women are “stoned to death” …use your law school to prevent 3rd world persecution of women, BE USEFUL instead of blogging! Just lost my job of 14 years. When I got home from work, I would turn on the TV / Computer and I used to wonder where the media comes up with half of it’s “stories” on how the American middle income family feels. Now that I’m at home, I see why! All the middle income average Americans are at WORK or too busy to sit around BLOGGING all the time. No wonder our REAL opinions never gets heard! We’re out there working to provide for our families. I’m an average, middle income, mother of 3 and I don’t know ANYONE that cares why or blames her for quiting. HEY GUYS, guess what, she has the right to quit! And she also has the right NOT to tell you why! But of course, if she were a man, this wouldn’t even be an issue. Hopefully, it would be totally fortunate for us, it is to pursue a different avenue in politics. She is totally “authentic” and our politics need some good ole authenticity and TRUTH! She tells you like it is … whether you like it or not. Sounds just like being a parent! Most the parents I know love Palin … she has structure and values! And, he who hasn’t lied, be the first to accuse her … otherwise don’t judge.
Wow. I can’t believe the vacuous drivel that actually spews out from the rightwingers in defence of queen Palin.
to bad the “unbiased” media didn’t send in planeloads of “journalists”, lawyers to Chicago to investigate Obama, our first Marxist president…comical to watch the Sarah hysteria, liberals obviously are afraid of anyone who is normal, she is pro life (how terrible), conservative=freedom
How can so many of you have such disdain for Sarah Palin?
I would even call it an obsession. This attitude reveals a total lack of love for neighbor. Who are you going to hate now that she’s gone? I guess you are to ’smart’ to follow the gospel…- Get a life.
It’s not that she blatantly lied. Given her ignorance about a “Dept. of Law” and what a VP does with their time, isn’t it more likely that she just had no idea what was going on? Politicians who run off at the mouth without having their brains in gear win the Gooberhead Award. May I nominate her as Gooberhead of the Year?
I’m a little shocked at all the venom against Palin by the liberal left. She’s out of office, isn’t she? Isn’t that what you wanted? What’s the point of going on and on and trying to dig up dirt on her? Obviously she has struck a nerve.
Instead of focusing on someone out of office (or soon to be), maybe we should focus on why liberal policies aren’t going to work. I myself am a fiscal conservative and social moderate. Unfortunately, I do not have a party so before someone runs their mouth about me being right wing Republican, I’m not. What I believe is the government is there to govern – not provide us. It is our personal responsibilty to provide for ourselves and our family.
Further more, taxing the rich is not a good idea – they already pay the majority of the taxes. In fact, did you know that 40% of taxfilers do not pay income taxes? Yet, how many of those 40% use the most government services? Look at the facts and stop being blind to what the MSM, bloggers, and the government tell you to believe.
Texas Aggie : you belong in Berkley, California.
Sarah is a beautiful woman, show some respect if you have any taste….
So you think money paid for defense of fraudulent claims is equal to money paid for legitimate purposes? You think a concerted effort to occupy government for political games doesn’t hurt the taxpayers of Alaska. That attacking Palin with untrue charges hoping that something sticks and will cost her personally is democracy in action? MORONS! Oh, and in Alaska they do call it Department of Law.
one thing i will hope for. maybe Hussine Obama will resign from being president, if that is what we will call him. talk about some idiots in this country.about sixty million. say about twenty million wish they could revote. liberals cant wait to voice their opion on a conservative.to cover their on lies and deceptions.
It really is interesting to see that the vast right wing group is all Dems. They seem to want the best Republican candidites to “fear” the backlash from the many, many liars from the Dems side of the aisle. Does everyone really think that the “general public” fails to see the real probem–the Dems.? I wonder
wow, so she is lying and corrupt, do any of you bashing her pay attention to the Chicago/ILL political machine that the current President came from…..You dont know Lies and decept until you have seen the ILL politions, (both Dems and Rep)….but i guess that is ok, right ???? Our Current president is above all that right ?? Blogo was just calling up the Presidents people to sell of the senate seat out of the blue, he had no previous indications that it would be something the Pres would be interested in dealing on right ???? Get a clue folks, if it is a politition, it lies
Hey Carros. You might not want to be labeled a rightwinger, but that’s what your own drivel tells the rest of us you are.
First, you say “we should focus on why liberal policies aren’t going to work”….what? So we shouldn’t wait for the FACTS to come in concerning whether or not our government’s policies in fact are working; instead we should move to join the vacuous, partisan-based DEMAGOGUERY on FoxNews wishing the policies to fail? Demagoguery over facts, hmmmm…..sounds VERY much like a [R] to me.
Second, you have all the mental reasoning capicty of a [R]. You say “40% of taxfilers do not pay income taxes… Yet, how many of those 40% use the most government services?” Well, from a logical standpoint, don’t you think the nation’s poor dominate that 40%? So just WHO do you think those government services are for, the RICH?!!!!
People like you who fancy themselves “independent” should engage your brains more rigorously, or failing that, just re-register as [R]. Queen Sarah and Lord Limbaught will be needing you to fill their delusional demagogic army.
BTW. I too count myself as a fiscal conservative. But given the mess that YOUR [R] boys left this counrty in, I’m backing Obama all the way. YOU have failed…now its time for the adults to take over.
LIBERALS MAKE ME SICK
A fool asks:
“why aren’t you just as curious about obama’s lack of candor regarding all his associations with chicago criminals, racists and terrorists? guess you just take him at his word right? oh but that’s right, no one in the MSM would dare to question him on anything for fear of being labeled a racist on the spot. he is a liar who was given a free pass by the LIBERAL LEFT WING MAINSTREAM MEDIA during the campaign and even more so now. it’s pathetic and if you don’t see that, you are a lost cause.”
Funny, I seem to recall hearing almost nothing else except “birth certificate, Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers” for most of the campaign.
Talk about pathetic: Dude, ask your right wing media where their proof is. There’s plenty of it, and it worked non-stop to smear Obama, never offering anything more than innuendo. Ask where THEIR proof is. If they had a smoking gun, you know damn well they’d have shown it.
As for Palin, she’s an idiot, Plain and simple. If you can’t speak, you can’t think because speaking IS thinking. I hope to God above she runs for POTUS in 2012. She’ll pull an Epic Fail in the primary because she scares even Republican voters….but if, somehow, she survives the primaries, she’ll go down to massive defeat. And none of it will be her fault. Arrogance and ignorance aren’t fatal, except in combination.
Obama is this generation’s Reagan. Get used to it.
By the way — I love this Chicago political machine talk.
Bring your proof forward of Chicago-era “corruption” against the President or go back into your hidey-hole and wait out the next 8 good years.
“Sarah is a beautiful woman”.
On the outside, yes.
“What’s the point of going on and on and trying to dig up dirt on her? Obviously she has struck a nerve.”
The point is she may run for another office. The point is that she doesn’t get to cut and run AND lie about it. She wants to be a quitter, fine. No law against it. But have the strength to tell the truth. Just say it’s too damn hard. Don’t make **** up.
If she wants to run for higher office, she has to justify the office she had and gave up.
Wow, didn’t expect that kind of vicious attack. However, other than my taxing the rich (who are already taxed quite a bit), what part of that comment qualifies as my right wing drivel.
So, you’re saying the rich should pay for the poor? What incentive is there for me to work hard – so I can pay more taxes instead of getting everything provided for me by the government. I’m sorry, I didn’t realize that government was a CHARITY.
I have done my research, that is why I am not a Republican or a Democrat. If you would like to debate certain issues, that is fine, however personal attacks against myself or my “drivel” just shows a lack of maturity that you “adults” have.
As for waiting for the “FACTS” to come in – how about the “FACT” of cap and trade? Do some more research and learn what actual scientists who study the environment/climate/etc have to say instead of Al Gore – what are his qualifications again? Being VP?
As for the mess my boys left me in – let me remind you that both my Senator and House Representative from MD are (D), so blame it on her.
I LOVE JOHN SAWYER!!!
@James: I celebrate your illness everyday, and wish you more of it. I do this because your sickness is self-generated, based on delusion, and mixed with all sorts of mis-labeling.
Given your labeling of “liberals”, I’m pretty sure you would label yourself “conservative”. But know this: you so-called conservatives are any thing but. You rightwingers are the biggest bunch of reactionary drama queens to have come down the pike since McCarthy and Hitler. I back Obama, and I have more real conservatism in my little finger than you’ll generate in your entire life. You people are as conservative as a chuck of concrete….and true conservatism goes way beyond that.
Idiot Of The Year Nominee:
“did you know that 40% of taxfilers do not pay income taxes? Yet, how many of those 40% use the most government services?”
Yeah they don’t pay taxes, BECAUSE THEY DON’T MAKE ENOUGH MONEY. And because they don’t make enough money to feed a family, THEY USE GOVERNMENT SERVICES.
Sheesh. Are ya kidding me?
Let me see if I understand your position here: Make sure we levy income taxes on the poorest Americans, even if it increases their need for public help.
Stooooopid.
Better: End the offshore tax havens for multi-billion dollar American businesses that allow them to avoid paying enough in legitimate taxes to send every American child to college.
By the way — the poor DO pay taxes. They pay sales taxes, for instance. And because sales taxes are flat taxes, they penalize the poor more than the rich. The rich can choose to pay fewer sales taxes by not making discretionary purchases. The poor don’t make discretionary purchases, or don’t make very many.
They also pay property and school taxes, taxes on their phone service and utility bills, and a hundred other smaller taxes.
To complain they don’t pay taxes on the income they don’t get is just the kind of thinking that got us into the present Republican spend-spend-spend mess.
Keep up the good thinkifyin’.
blame it on them, I meant to type
Sarah Palin does not follow the rules, and does not conform to political boundaries. This has angered Republicans, Democrats, and especially the liberal media. She may be exactly what we need in 2012.
I`m sick and tired of listening to all of it….Republicans ….Democrats……nobody getting a dang thing done.WE are Americans!! If reasonably minded people can NOT see the majority of the press has a liberal slant(except for Fox….they are Ultra Conservative)A look at the DR.that was killed recently that was described as an “Abortion provider”…..giving a sympathetic edge to someone whom provides a service to others….as apposed to a Dr. killed for doing something that is legal in the eyes of the law.
Sarah Palin whatever you think of her…and in my case I think she has great legs and a great deal of courage….could you imagine a world where the same nasty things that were said about her children alone and then the bogus charges of ethics violations circulated as “real” news were said about one of the “cherished few” when you have people like Hillary that openly LIE about things(the gunfire as the plane landed and numerous other things….Joe Biden and his plethera of misguided statements…FDR din`t get on the TV and calm the American people during the depression) and yet Sarah Palin got taken to task for saying Russia was basically “in her backyard”…..it is if you look at a map of Alaska…closer than the main land of the U.S.
Leave the woman alone….since she doesn`t fit into the mainstream ideal woman…..Career,5 Children(one of whom is handicapped)a husband that doesn`t bang interns, and she loves the outdoors,Hunts, fishes, believes in God,and public service……if she were a Democrat she would be LAUDED….as a republican she is scorned and ridiculed……a double standard of EPIC proportions….So keep it up you two…..Republicans and Democrats….keep electing these bottom feeders that take away your rights and your money a liitle at a time….the average American ALREADY works well into MAY just to pay the government what it needs…..that will soon be changing to June…..while we are being distracted by the partisian Bull ****..WAKE UP!!
hahaha, are you kidding me? How many tax returns have you prepared?
I’m not saying tax the poor – I’m saying don’t raise taxes on the “rich” who spend more, pay more in property taxes, and pay more in income taxes.
Despite popular belief, the “rich” aren’t able to write off all their tax deductions or take tax credits, since there’s this little thing called the AMT – Alternative Minimum Tax.
I’m saying stop government spending – or at the very minimum pretend to have any sort of accountability to the way that they are spending OUR money.
Sarah Palin is veracity is questionable. Last year during the Presidential campaign I monitored the political forum in the Ankorage Daily News…one evening a poster put this link in his post. It is a copy of a letter of recommendation written by then Mayor of Wasilla, Sarah Palin, on Wasilla Mayoral letterman to the Alaska State Police on behalf of her then brother in law. Several years later when that same brother in law dumped Sarah Palin’s sister for another woman, Governor Palin went after that job she had gotten him. That effort turned into “Troopergate”. The person who posted the link noted that it had covertly given to him by someone on the force. http://extras.mnginteractive.com/live/media/site163/2008/0721/20080721_111415_PalinLetterofRecomend.pdf
Haha…I meant Mayoral letterhead (not Letterman-what a freudian slip:))
She was probably getting banged by somebody she shouldn’t have been, and afraid it was going to come out eventually. Maybe she’s being blackmailed somehow, who knows. Either way there’s more to it. Whether we’ll ever know the real reasons or not, time will tell. Personally I don’t like her ideology, in general, and wouldn’t vote for her anyway so it doesn’t really matter to me what happened. I just think it’s a really really dumb way to potentially try and set yourself up to get a GOP nomination for 2012, by quitting the previous position you were elected to. Who’s to say if the going got tough enough in the big office (stretch your imagination and pretend she could get there), or, she was in a bad mood during menopause, or…whatever…. she wouldn’t suddenly just decide she needs to get away from it all and doesn’t want the media in her life anymore and so on? Unreliable, is what it comes out looking like, at best.
Tim,
I completely agree with your point of view. There is corruption on both sides of the aisle and by everyone being so worried about voting “Democrat” or “Republican” that they don’t focus on the issues. What completely saddens me is a lack of knowledge about candidates and lack of personal responsibility.
The hardest jobs in politics are raising money and getting media attention. That is why campaigns fizzle. Sarah Palin’s campaign is “sizziling” and all of you are contributing.
This is laughable and exactly why Ann Coulter’s column on her webpage this week about liberals’s two-mouthed reactions to Sarah Palin is such a hit. Liberals can never and will never stop being terrified of her…..
She’s going to have a national platform now. She’s going to raise a ton of money. Instead of staying on and collecting a governor paycheck while pursuing bigger and better platforms, she’s stepping aside and leaving the position to a more-than-qualified right-winger.
Obama didn’t do that, remember? He kept taking Illinois money as Senator and voted present 50,000 times while out setting his eyes on larger platforms.
Poor Democrats.
Walter, great work very ineresting!
Tena, I love it Commander Coo Coo Bananas hahaha
sorry it took so long to comment. I was out putting my stars and bars on my four wheel drive and gettin’r shined up to go vote for Sarah.I’m just an ‘ol dumb Texan that loves Jesus so, I couldn’t possibly be informed or have intelligence like all the smarties on this thread. The sad thing is that I’m not going anywhere and you can’t get rid of me, so have another glass of wine and I’ll keep loving living in one of the states that is still actually working. Hmmm… I wonder why a conservative run, pro business government is working down here. It”s not supposed to right?
Hey there Carros. I live in the same state you do. I voted for “her”, and “him”. Who did you vote for in those senate elctions? And who did you vote for in the 2000, 2004 presidential elections? If you didn’t vote for the [R]s, I’ll take back my “personal attack” of claiming as “your boys” the [R] politicians who got us into this mess.
I laid out pretty plainly for you two points on why I thought your comments qualified as rightwing drivel. And they stand. The FACTS issue was a philosophical one, and you merely deflected your approach to dealing with FACTS to yet another factless rightwing screech about cap and trade. The issue about the “poor” was merely one of LOGIC. You made a connection about not paying taxes and use of government services as if those were independent issues. Don’t sit there and complain that the poor use government services the most….of course they do….that’s the way it was designed. You and I can debate whether or not that policy should change, but the poor are not somehow pulling the wool over everybody’s eyes…that kind of thinking is VERY rightwing.
And with your deflection to cap and trade, you’ve only dug your hole deeper. Cap and trade is just one ECONOMIC approach to the ENVIRONMENTAL issue of climate change. You have mixed your subjects — what is it you wish to debate, cap and trade or climate change? And your mention of Al Gore, as if he’s the driving force for the evidence of climate change, is absurdly rightwing. Your request of me to “do some more research and learn what actual scientists who study the environment/climate/etc have to say” is quite laughable: I AM ONE OF THOSE SCIENTISTS! So YOU had better do your research on that subject, and make sure YOU come to the debate with something other than more rightwing drivel about Al Gore!
Of course Palin lied. That’s what she does. Her next move is no mystery. It’s to move to the lower 48 and cash in on her fame.
OK, First of all, the state lawyers are NOT DEFENDING her. SHE has to pay out of her own pocket for a lawyer in private pactice to defend her against these baseless accusations. Secondly,it costs NOTHING to make these accusations, the taxpayers dollars wasted is the result of the entire staff having to spend the bulk of their time gathering the information about the alledged violations which have averaged 3 a month, every month since McCain selected her. But more important than the financial cost was the loss of effective government. This is what Palin was talking about. A handful of individuals are abusing the intent of the ethics statute Palin ushered in. I know it’s a difficult concept for some to grasp. But she is doing what this country needs more of. She IS putting the people first. By resigning Lt Gov. Parnell assumes the office and he’ll be able to address the other issues that need attention.
sara palin remains to be a threat to us democrats because of her increasing popularity with conservatives. dont take her lightly. she may be smarter than you think
The focus on one politician (such as Palin) is amusing to me. All politicians have a single purpose — to get re-elected. They do whatever they believe is necessary to not loose their job. People should be extremely cautious of what EVERY politician says because, no matter how good it sounds, it is for the politicians own purposes. I question everything Palin says and does, but I also question everything Biden or Obama say or do. Remember, our politicians should represent US not themselves — I question if any of them realize that.
@notdallas, who says “I know it’s a difficult concept for some to grasp. But she is doing what this country needs more of. She IS putting the people first. By resigning”.
No, I can grasp it. But the real question is does Gov. Sanford grasp it….do his supporters grasp it….and are you promoting his resignation with as much vigour as you are supporting Palin’s quitting?
Given that a few years back, one couldn’t take a **** in DC without hitting a corupt [R] politician in the head, I do agree with you: every stinkin’ [R] politician in this country should put the people fist and resign. Then we can sort through the remaining [D]s.
I am a state attorney and I don’t find this anti-palin article to be very persuasive. Did the Alaska State Attorney’s office make any new hires since the ethics complaints? Also, Alaska probably had to cut down on civil enforcement or oversite actions because Attorney’s were pulled off these duties to defend the ethics complaints. So while the money may not have gone to fish research otherwise, it certainly could have gone to a more useful purpose, such as, bringing enforcement actions in areas of wage/hour, pollution, consumer fraud, safety or the many other “white hat” state attorney generals do.
DeeBee
Actually, I’m one of those people that don’t pay taxes (not federal) because of my mortgage (which I can afford) and a couple of tax credits. However, I do have drive and when I do make over $250,000 (after taxes, it’s actually not what I would call “rich”)
As for your sales tax argument – apparently the rich don’t buy anything – especially bigger ticket items which makes them pay even more money into the system.
For everyone that seems to think I’m saying tax the poor, not the rich, if you actually read what I’m writing, that’s not the point I’m making at all.
I’m saying don’t tax the poor, don’t add any additional taxes to the rich, but instead watch the government spending. Who, Republican or Democrat are helping out their buddies. They are spouting off what they think we want to hear.
Oh wait, that sounds like more Right wing republican drivel, doesn’t it – oh that’s because it doesn’t keep in line with the left agenda. So incredibly sorry for having my own INFORMED opinion.
Sarah Palin does not know how to tell the truth–she is no genious if it took five years for her to get a degree in sports communication on the internet! She hasn’t paid any attention to problems in Alaska–has focussed on getting media attention for herself and her family–and the economy in Alaska is in a mess. She is watching out for herself by resigning and blaming the legal expenses as bringing the state down! All Alaskans celebrated with fireworks on the the 4th of July weekend, a perfect time to get rid of Sarah Palin. She flew into Juneau (the capital) and was at the parade long enough to get her pictures taken as being there–residents say no longer than 5 minutes for her photo shoot and then off to do some more interviews and self-promotion. She doesn’t love Alaska–she only loves herself. Poor baby Trig–it is his own mother who has no time for him….
The reality is McCain deserted his principles in choosing Palin, a person unqualified for the most important, or possibly most important position in the world. She is a radical to most Americans and no doubt our country would be polarized. I blame McCain for betraying America, not Palin.
I’m not saying that the pool are pooling the wool over anyone’s eyes at all. I’m saying why should the rich pay even more taxes? Which two comments in my original post were “drivel”? I get the not taxing the rich anymore – but that’s really basic economics.
There are better ways to focus on environmental issues – not just whoever can pay can pollute. Why don’t you ask China or India about their cap and trade programs to stop their pollution…oh wait…what’s their air & water quality like again?
As for cap and trade – it is just a huge excuse for the government to make money – which companies will pass the cost on to whom? Everyone – rich, middle class (what’s left), and poor.
As for who I voted for – one it’s a secret ballot for a reason, however, I can say that I have not been happy the past three election cycles since there hasn’t been a single candidate I would call a leader or willing to trust. Oh wait, there I go with that right wing drivel again.
Example of the US Tax system:
Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:
The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.
So, that’s what they decided to do.
The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. “Since you are all such good customers,” he said, “I’m going to reduce
the cost of your daily beer by $20.”Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.
The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men – the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his ‘fair share?’
They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody’s share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill by roughly the same amount as the original arrangement, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.
And so:
The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).
The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).
Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings “I only got a dollar out of the $20,”declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,” but he got $10!”
“Yeah, that’s right,” exclaimed the fifth man. “I only saved a dollar, too. It’s unfair that he got TEN times more than I!” “That’s true!!” shouted the seventh man. “Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!”
“Wait a minute,” yelled the first four men in unison. “We didn’t get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!”
The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.
The next night the tenth man didn’t show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!
And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier
Who want’s to play with chicken **** game. Now that Palin is quitting, she can really go for the big office. haha, Democrat wants Palin to play with their drama untill next election but sorry your not getting your way. I’m a independent party.:) You Democrates are way out of line!
Those comments by DeeBee on the poor were priceless, as in pathetic. As a history major, I can tell you lack knowledge on the subject, especially what the term ‘poor’ has historically meant.
The ‘poor’, and (I say ‘poor’ because the poor in America aren’t poor, they are considered Middle Class in Western Europe) have the money to pay a reduced income tax of 15% (given that thanks to Bush’s spending spree and Obama’s burning of money the Government controls 27% of the GDP as opposed to 20% in 2000), as well as the capacity to figure out that you don’t have 4 kids when your poor, it’s common sense not to, just like it’s common sense not to get hit up or hit someone up in High School. Yes I am a staunch supporter of a slightly varied flat-rate form of income taxation, as am I a supporter of the elimination of all other forms of federal taxation.
The problem with the ‘poor’ in the US now is due to mentality. The mentality of a lot of the ‘poor’ and lower-middle class is one of entitlement, not one of work hard for your money, being content with what you have has gone out the window, as has being grateful to be living in a developed and free country. This mentality has completely replaced the old one which made America great, as the immigrants streaming over from Europe worked hard, as do illegals, while the modern American ‘poor’ look for handouts. We loose jobs overseas because of union leaching, i.e. ‘entitlement’ and that’s not surprising. I could care less if the American auto industry went under, just let a dying dog die, don’t hook him up to 50 tubes to keep him alive.
This shift in mentality is the result of the oldest populist trick in the book, blame the ‘evil rich’ for everyone’s problem, have a ‘hero’ steal their money and give it to you in order to ensure your loyalty. That is the easiest way to get into power, play the greed/envy/scapegoat card. The Nazis played the ‘blame game,’ save they restricted it to the ‘evil rich Jews.’
As for Palin, I don’t mind her. I’d prefer a better politician who up-front rejects the man-made global warming nonsense and is more in touch with economics. She lied, so what, name a politician who has not lied. All of you are so quick to jump on her its pathetic, given she is and has not been VP or president, let alone a senator or congressmen. Some say it’s because she resigned….well it isn’t easy doing your job when you have dozens of people doing what ever they can to slander you whenever possible. “Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone.”
I believe the reason Sarah Palin is quitting is because she knows that the U.S. govt.as all the other world govt. will be ruled by the devil soon with satan as the leader in disguise and Obama as other democrats will be use as a precursor for his incarnation as man.Obama is the precursor of his coming out to the world.Like what Pain said anything can happen to the world in the coming years and it starts this month.
This is all a bunch of BS and speculation. The media morons who have control of most American’s minds and mislead them time and time again to “flower up” an otherwise mundane story. Isn’t it time to take back your minds from these morons and think and decide for yourself. It is amazing that so many bloggers do absolutely nothing to demonstrate clear-headed thinking and repeat, in disgust, and like parrots, the same message the media of far, far left (abusing their freedom of of speech and the press rights) suggest. We are becoming a moron society and gullibility is the primary factor for this disease. Employ common sense…sit back and think people…for yourselfs, and maybe, just maybe we can head this train-wreck toward reconstitution. And that thought brings me to the constitution and constitutionality as whole. There is only one way to right our wrongs as apparently our leaders are too ignorant of the writings and intent of this document. It is time to whitewash Congress….entirely. Yes…start from scratch….Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. These people have been placed there with the responsibility of acting on the behalf of their constituencies, but instead everything is all about them. They spend 99% of their time in seeking re-election from the moment they come on board, and certainly are neither in touch with their constiuents or the majority of people in this country the middle class and its values. We need to get back to the days were someone everyone thought honest and ethical was asked to run for Congress. Back years ago, no one bought their way in. They didn’t have to deal with elected people who came as electees being the best of the worse. We need to break this trend and take America back! And now! The people, be far the majority over the numbers in Congress, need to take America back. And, as intended by our forefathers, the majority, not the minority who speaks the loudest, should have the say of this fine nation. Join with me, a proud and independent American through and through and pull back your brains, think, doubt the endless numbers of morons trying to take control of your minds and refuse to give over. We run this counry, not the media, and apparently, unless one considers running us into the ground in control, neither does Congress or the President for that matter. Somebody has got to be the rational and reasonable…thus far our leaders are not. Follow Me……
@Carros: so Mr. Economic and Environmental Genius, you’ve railed-on about all the faults in our government, about how they tax all you so-called non-rich people who in-fact do not pay taxes on your $250,000 incomes which allows you to afford a nice house, about how the poor use up all the government services paid for by the taxes you do not pay, about how Al Gore is responsible for misleading the public, the IPCC, the “real” climate scientists, and the US National Acadamy of Sciences just to promote cap and trade…….(I have to stop, I’m laughing too hard)….so Mr. Genius, ignoring who you supported back in the 1990’s when Clinton with the help of the minority congressional [D]s gave us the biggest economic upturn in history, ignoring what your position was during the last 6-8 years of uncontrolled, wasted [R] spending and harmful tax cuts to people like you which has led us to two recessions, ignoring all that potential for revealing political hypocrisy and delusion,…….can you leave the demagoguery, the ideology-driven rhetoric behind, and clearly answer this one question: given the large mess that our economy is in, JUST WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO SOLVE THE ECONOMIC PROBLEM????
I remember when Bob Dole ran. I don’t remember his running mate but I remember thinking, everyone knows he’s going to lose so he’ll fall on the sword for the party while they plan for the next election. In 2008, I remember thinking, the only ones who don’t know that the Dems are winning this thing are John McCain and Sarah Palin. That kind of delusion doesn’t wash off. She’s here for the long haul. Thank you John!
Maybe you need to re-read my posts with an open mind instead of twisting my words around because apparently, you are so filled with venom towards anyone that doesn’t think exactly like you, that you feel a need to attack me.
As for solving the economich problem, that will be in a later post since it will take time and be way oversimplified anyway.
economic
Man-made global warming, it’s nothing more than a new form of irrational fear which gets people in power, gets them money and gets them a huge following. Oh and for the ‘real data’, here are the hard facts which completely shatter the entire concept of man-made climate change:
-The average temperature of the Earth has not risen since 1998, in fact it has fallen despite increased carbon emissions
-Carbon Dioxide levels have always followed temperature changes, not caused them
-Temperature increases have been observed on Mars and elsewhere in the Solar System
-Water Vapor is responsible for 95% of the Greenhouse Effect, none of which is man-made
-Carbon Dioxide is responsible for 3% of the Greenhouse Effect, of which less than 4% is man-made
-During the 20th century, more warming occurred prior to 1950 than after it, despite the fact that emissions being drastically smaller prior to the post WWII economic boom.
-The temperature during the past 10,000 years have been unusually stable, the climate normally fluctuates far more often, thus making the beginning of a warming period seem natural
-The East Antarctic Ice Cap, home to 70% of the world’s ice has been steadily growing since 1970
-The Greenland Ice Cap, home to 5% of the world’s ice is the same size now as it was in 1920
When all of the above revelations are taken into account, the whole idea of man-made global warming collapses. That is why the above information in question is not wildly circulated, for as Stalin said “Ideas are far more powerful than guns. We don’t allow our enemies to have guns, why should we allow them to have ideas?”, it appears that the ‘Green Machine’ and their socialist benefactors seek to follow that example.
@Carros: that’s what I like about you rightwing wanna-bes, you have no clue when to stop, not a clue when your stupidity has gone over the top…for all to see. It is the hieght of hypocrisy for people who make as much as you do, and who admittedly doesn’t pay any Fed. taxes, to then complain about how much the rich get taxed,…and then you have the gall to threaten: “Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier”. What a childish and empty threat. But let me give you a push: I for one look forward to the day when your deluded, non-tax-paying behind leaves this country. Good riddence…we need people who want to be part of the solution…and not just whine about all the problems. The poor and our policies towards them have their problems, indeed, but it really takes the cake when people who have the means to know better actually make themselves part of an even bigger problem.
Sarah’s sudden resignation was surprising. However, this is a calculating move on her behalf. I guess she is going to study in her spare time—to become president in ‘12. Human by nature, the media, just like everybody else, saw inconsistencies in her stories and when they/we started to ask/question her abilities to run the country, we saw that she was not capable. It was a shame to count John McCain dead before he finishes serving his term(s) as president. Seeing Russia from where you live does not qualify as knowing foreign policies.
@Roob, Palin was compairing to Obama on that issue. Ofcourse she was lot closer to foreign land than Chicago thug…
@Kenneth
The poor are the problem with regard to the US economy, not the solution. If one could deport them overseas, or restrict them to a certain part of the US, the country would flourish. As I mentioned in my previous post, the problem with the poor is their retrograde mentality of being ‘entitled’ to numerous benefits while all the while, putting next to nothing onto the national tax table to prove that they are deserving of anything. Indeed, that would allow Social Security and Medicare to be cut, thus reducing the size of the government for the betterment of everyone.
As for the ‘empty threat’ you mention about the rich leaving, have you not read about the Swiss bank accounts? I fully support the actions of the Swiss government in protecting the people who get exploited as part of a populist power grab, so long as they earned their money honestly. Let them all live an operate their corporations in a tax-free state and let the hate-filled and envious population stir in their own juice.
You seem to resort to character assassination rather than debating the topic at hand, which shows that you either lack knowledge of the topic, or know your opponent is winning and have nothing to counter them with.
Finally, with regard to recessions, Reagen fixed Carter’s economic collapse which still is worse than this one is, given that it had inflation in excess of 15%, interest rates in excess of 15% and unemployment in excess of 10%. All media refrences to this being ‘the worst recession since the Great Depression’ are merely scare tactics, as unemployment remained at over 20% during the depression, this combined with deflation and negative economic growth. As for the ‘Clinton Years’, you seem to forget the Republican controlled congress, and that Clinton was more power hungry, as opposed to an idolog like Obama. Finally, Bush fixed Clinton’s recession which started in early 2000 with the tax breaks, so your assertions that Republicans are responsible for economic woes are unfounded.
@Roob, It’s like poker game, Palin knew Obama didn’t have it either, so like in poker game when you don’t have a hand, than you start to count your high face card.
Oh, and for the US policies towards the poor, look no farther than the ‘Great Society’, a complete failure which we are still paying for, as in that it did nothing to reduce the poverty rate.
It was at that time, during LBJ’s time in office, that the Democrats moved from center-left to socialist, while the Republicans moved slightly left, stabilized under Reagen, then moved left under Bush sr. and jr. The statements that the Republicans are moving ‘too far right’ are baseless, as they are left of where they were in 1980, which means as I said, they are moving slowly to the left. This leftwards movement was especially apparent with the last two years of Bush jr.’s presidency, ‘the second half of his second term was below second rate.’ The widening of the ideological gap between the parties is part of the reason for all of the partisan problems.
Well, since you can’t read my posts with an open mind and instead decide to attack me for having opposing viewpoints (yet you’re the “adult”), let me disillusion you. I said I don’t pay taxes – I make no where near $250,000 – however, I have drive and one day will and will pay my taxes on that. However, do I want to pay taxes for people who feel entitled to a free home, free food, etc? No, because it is their responsibility to take action for themselves. Do I feel bad for the poor? Yes. Do I give a ton of money away to charity? Yes. Why? Because I want them to have the resources to provide for their families.
Obviously you are so angered at the “rich”. Rich is not a married couple with two kids making over $250,000 – not in this housing market. That $250,000 is the same number that was used for creating the AMT – back in the early 70s. It has not been adjust since, yet prices have clearly gone up since then.
Here’s a real life example of a married couple with one dependent who earnings are over $200,000.
About taxation
This is from a real person’s (married filing joint) tax return for all of you who think “the rich” should pay more
AGI – 235036
Itemized deductions (includes state income tax pd of $18,844, real estate taxes of $4428, mortgage interest and some charitable contributions for the remainder)- – 31343
exemption amount (both filers and one child) – 10500
Taxable income – 193193
Income tax (Federal only) 42834
AMT (for making too much money) 2602
Total tax 45436
We add state taxes of 17386
Total federal tax rate – 19.3% of agi
Total state tax rate – 7.8% (state AGI income is higher)
SS/Medicare – 7.65%
Property taxes – 2.2%
Total % of income towards taxes – almost 37% – not including sales/gas taxes they pay.
For those of you that think these people are rich, they live in a modest home that they’ve owned for years, do not drive fancy cars – or new ones. They’re not what one would call “rich”. I would say comfortable enough to be able to afford more than the necessaties. Maybe they should pay an extra 10% “surcharge” though on their income so that they don’t have enough to save for their own retirements, health care needs, etc.
@carros: no, I do not need to re-read your posts. I got their main points, which were mainly to deflect the issues I brought up. And that is yet another sign: the old bait and switch — deflection to another topic — have you ever seen what the likes of O’Reilly and Limbaugh do when confronted with issues and facts that do not conform to their rightwing comfort zone?
I’ll merely end with this. You claim to be “independent”. But where on your comfort zone do the screeds of doc and Stephen lie? The veil of half-truth and psuedo-patriotic claims that they weave is certainly not non-partisan, and their anti-science, anti-enlightenment views are a sad comment on modern America. So really, where do you stand — with the Stepens and docs of this country or with people who wish to bring this country back from the brink of the Dark Ages?
@Kenneth
Your above statements with regard to me have me repeating myself:
“You seem to resort to character assassination rather than debating the topic at hand, which shows that you either lack knowledge of the topic, or know your opponent is winning and have nothing to counter them with.”
Socialism is for stone ages, when we collect fruits and hunt animal meat in group and share it equally.
My bait and switch? Are you serious? You’ve done nothing but attack me without giving any back up to your views. I’ve given you mine.
How is government spending and leaving our children and grandchildren not only in debt because of the deficit but by the enormous amount of our budget that will go towards just paying the interest. But, we should still keep bailing out anyone who needs it (or China and Russia should)? According to you, we should. Because the rich will just bail us out.
@carros: actually I’ll end with this….we both got way off topic there, didn’t we? If Sarah could have brought as much thought to her duties as we did to our posts, I don’t think she would have had to quit.
Yes we certainly did. Actually I think her stepping down (right or wrong) was probably better for the state of Alaska – allows them to get back to business.
Playing or talking with an idots are not so much fun rather wants get them out of your face.:)
Is this what you would call a first term abortion? Iiiiiirony!
I’m an independent, I do believe it has a happy ending in some cases.
Might want to read this, it’s by Dr. Timothy Patterson, head of the Canadian IGCP and contributes to many other geologic and climate based organizations. He is a ‘real scientist’ who completely destroys the man-made global warming argument.
http://www.tcsdaily.com/article.aspx?id=010405M
“1. If CO2 is of such critical importance to climate change why was there a large temperature rise prior to the early 1940s when 80 percent of the human produced carbon dioxide was produced after World War II?
2. When CO2 levels finally began to increase dramatically in the postwar years why was there a concomitant interval of about 30 years of cooling?
One would think that if CO2 had such critical control over climate that the relative abundance of CO2 in the atmosphere would be in lock step with global temperature.”
“The number one greenhouse gas is actually water vapor. It’s something like 98 percent, by volume, of all greenhouse gases.”
“When researchers first looked at the results from these cores they observed a repeating correlation between CO2 and temperature through several glacial/interglacial cycles. However, when they began to look at higher resolution cycles they say something different. They observed that temperature would go up first comes up first, with CO2 coming up later. This correlation indicates that as one might expect as temperatures warm biological productivity increases resulting in more CO2 in the atmosphere. The lag between CO2 and rising or falling CO2 levels is something like 800 years.”
Is our sun keeping it on same temperature or keeping at same radiation level? If not we need to tax it! When cabon tax kicks in… Siht!
Oh Stephen. Where do I start with you? Here’s the deal: you are either a moron or retarded. I will not “debate” your rather pathetically childish ideology on the poor. You are entitled to your beliefs.
You are also entitled to your BELIEFS on climate change. On the other hand, I, and I hope the rest of the country, will push belief and demagoguery aside when it comes to scientific topics such as climate change. There is much scientific research and debate left to be done about climate change, but that science is best left to scientists and their scientific methods, and not to psuedo-intellectuals with an ideologic agenda. The details are still being worked, but the larger picture of atmospheric build-up of heat trapping gases, their link to human activity, and their early effects on the climate are irrefutable. Your screed of half-truths and non-facts about climate change are pathetic and easily refuted based on readily accessible information on well-reputed science-based web-sites….ones that even you can read. That you anti-science apes get to peddle your idiotic ideologic-based BELIEFS on scientific topics is merely a testament to the LIBERAL nature of our constitutional laws.
Kenneth,
Just wondering, how much do you earn? How much of it do you give up to “help the poor?” Just what is it that you do that contributes to a solution. Why is it that politicians should decide how much to take away from whomever and spend however they choose. If it were just the poor who benefitted from taxes that might not be so bad. Defining poor might require another look though. What about the tremendous amount of waste for over price programs for fat friends or the continually costly and expanding government and its support staff? How about this health care scam? Will members of either political party in Congress or the President and his family use the same plan they are proposing for the rest of the country? As I said earlier, watch your back.
Our Earth was much hotter and frozen before.
first off its a cool 70 degrees here when it is normaly in the high 90’s to tripple digits man i hate glogal warming!!!! second ‘I REGRET NEGLECTING MY CHILDREN ON MY QUEST FOR POWER!!!” yep he is here for our needs! not his own ego! and has my vote for father of the year! admitted drug use! spent more money than bush came close to! not that im defending bush! there is no defense for him! yes he is the president for cahnge because thats all that will be left! barney franks is allready trying to find ways to spend the so called proffits we make from the repayment of the money we LOANED the banks and auto company’s instead of paying back the debt they created!! problem with rogue nations, and everthing else that is happening in our world and yet sarah is the important issue???? palin and jackson? yep we need more of this!
LIAR. AGAIN.
freezing – well why would anyone pay off their debt, they can just declare bankruptcy so they can buy more stuff they don’t need with money they don’t have…oh wait, isn’t that part of what has gotten us into this mess to begin with – buying stuff we can’t afford with money we don’t have? Why should the government be any different than the rest of the country!
carros, no the gov spending money they dont have and the gov allowing people to spend money they dont have on homes they cant afford and im speaking of both parties here! caused this! not all americans piss their money away! and yes the gov should be differant! they should be held responible for their actions and are not! we are! by paying for their mistakes!
@Martin:
“Just wondering, how much do you earn?” — None of your damn business; but not enough for the “Bush” tax cuts to have made a significant difference. In fact, I am old enough to have lived as a working adult through the Carter years, and on forward, and I can state unequivocally that I have never been as financially harmed via federal policies and the general economy as under Bush II. So indeed the last eight years have me fully trained to “watch my back”.
“How much of it do you give up to “help the poor?” — Well I do not suffer from “liberal guilt”, so I do not do much other than pay my taxes with the knowledge that they help pay for the government programs so many of you complain about.
“Just what is it that you do that contributes to a solution.” Well, first of all, I voted for Obama, and I voted for my [D] representative and Senator. I therefore voted in a very partisan way NOT to continue the [R] failure of 2001-2008. I consider that a huge step forward towards a solution. Like many of you, I do not know for sure whether all these programs and changes will work, but I think they will, and they certainly have a wide-spectrum of support from KNOWLEDGABLE PROFESSIONALS (as opposed to media talking heads and ideologic-driven bloggers). And I am willing to give this a try to see what the results ACTUALLY are, instead of hoping for failure from the get-go like a spoiled child that doesn’t get its way.
freezing – I was saying that with complete tongue in cheek.
Hey Len, you do know that Sarah used a teleprompter at her “I quit” press conference, right?
carros, i got that but a lot of people on here don’t so i said what i said for them, it seems to me people spend more time debating and name calling over things that do not matter more than they do the topics tha do! we are a nation devided over small issues while we ignore the important ones! likr the old saying goes, united we stand devided we fall! which way do you think we are heading?
Gotcha! I think we are headed towards the fall of Rome. Looking at every great world power throughout history, you can just see the pattern repeating here. I came across this quote and absolutely love it.
“The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.” — Cicero, 55 BC
whitge knight@01:08 am “…about the boat being built Have any of you folks ever bought a gillnetter? if not shut your trap up when you get it its a hull that needs to be set up as you need see fit. up in these parts its called building a boat.”
Baloney.”Up in these parts”, most of us commercial fishermen that fish multiple seasons and make a living at it, BUY NICE BOATS. COMPLETE boats, not hulls. With on-board Mr. Coffee and electronic gizmos. From BOATBUILDERS who are part of our industry. Some of us even shop for ‘turn-key’ used boats that come fitted with hydraulics, gear and various appurtenances thereof.
Some do buy hulls and customize. It’s an off-season hobby. Every captain works on their boat, every season, customizing, retro-fitting, replacing engines.
whitge knight, have you ever seen a setnet skiff? It ain’t a gillnetter. It’s a skiff with an outboard motor.
Now Todd may have built a skiff “with his buddies” somewhere along the way – who cares? He OWNS a skiff that he bought, not built, that he uses in his operation.
The whole boat thing is as stupid as Sarah suggesting that she made the bread because she put it in the toaster, or that she made her designer suit, because she hemmed it.
carros, dead on! with the exception of the dissabled and old, help the helpless not the clueless!
You think comments are vile now against Sarah Palin? This is mild. If she intends to run in 2012–WATCH OUT. Intelligent people of this country will NEVER ALLOW her to hold high office. Read my lips … NEVER!
Marie Brownley, no sarah is not ready for high office! the left and right can agree to that! she will be an effective mouth piece for the republicans and that is what i think she is going to do! the point im making is people attacking someone they need not fear! how about taking a long look at the man the intelligent people voted into office! he is not creating jobs he is causing us to lose them, in doing so he is decreasing tax revenue by over taxing the people who create the jobs that put people to work causing lay offs and closures! less tax revenue means no money to pay for his programs and existing ones! so the people he is there to help will be the ones who suffer! people on dissability or welfare can not pay their rent with i.o.u’s! look at california! the nation is heading that way.
OWR PLANIT WAS C02 GAS BEFOUR LIK 6000 YERS AGO
I CANT WATE FOR PALIN TO BE PRESIDENT. SHEE CAN GET RID OF FAACK FOSILS IN NAT HIST MUSEEIM AND REPLACE W/ SCENES FROM GENESIS…HALLELUJAH
@Kenneth
Again with your name-calling. Do you not know that resorting to name-calling makes you appear childish, desperate and uneducated? It also makes whatever you seek to get across look amateurish and arrogant. If you wish to engage in a dialog with a person than do so, do not go on to rant, as it discredits anything you say.
As for my statements with regard to the poor, again think about it. How was poverty defined in 1850, 1900, 1950? How is it defined now? What was the work ethic of the poor in 1850, 1900, 1950, what is it now? How did the poor manage to survive without all of these government programs in the past, where as now they can’t get by without them? How did they manage to be content and productive when they had nothing by modern standards? Take a step back and look at history in order to get the complete view of things.
It is true that a lot of the poor have an attitude dominated by greed, envy and hatred, something which is a disease. That quote from Cicero posted by is chilling, as it describes the entire western world, and the one thing about history is that all who fail to learn from it are doomed to repeat it.
As for myself as a Christian, I am all for helping everyone who is in need of aid and encourage others to donate to charities for those purposes, to feed the homeless, provide housing and clothing. Indeed I’d like to see media coverage which encourages people to do that as well as seeing different charities merge to become more effective. However with regard to helping my neighbor, those are my views and individual choices, and the shift in the US culture has made it an unpopular stance to take to say the least.
You also assume that because I am a conservative, I want Obama’s programs to fail. Nothing could be further from the truth, as I do not wish to see innocent people endure hardships. I want things to work out, for people to be happy/content and with one less thing to worry about with regard to the economy. What I fear is that they will fail and cause misery and hardship for generations to come. Using history as a guide, such programs are prone to failure, and it is the consequences of that failure that I fear the most.
You also seem to assume that I am a Bush supporter. While I support his foreign policy and tax policies, his policies with regard to wasteful government spending and the trade deficit were horrid, as was his mild stance on illegal immigration and the ‘blank check’ which was TARP.
As for Global Warming, first I must ask you this–are the scientists who propose that there is Man-Made Global Warming are not biased to do so in some way? Do you honestly think that they don’t have agendas to reinforce that whole concept? Think about it for a minute.
Organizations such as the IPCC only exist because of the belief that humanity has a measurable impact on the climate. If it were to come to light that humanity doesn’t, then the organization would have its funding cut and be disbanded. Thus it is only natural that the members continue to promote that theory to maintain both their funding and their international power.
Also think about where the advocates of Man-Made Global Warming get their funding. If they get money from ‘green’ groups, they are just as likely to be bias as those who get money from ‘big oil.’ The same is true with regard to those who are government funded, considering that government agendas now revolve around this idea, and the staff of such government-funded committees would be bias to keeping their jobs and pay. I am by no means saying that they are all bias, however that they are just as likely to be bias as those funded in part or fully by oil companies, they are also just as likely to lie and or falsify data in order to advance their careers.
After all, if it were revealed to be a normal climate fluctuation, there would be little to no interest in the topic and minimal scientific investment in tracking it, and as a result, thousands of scientists world-wide would loose their funding and positions, and many politician’s careers would be ruined. However if it is an ‘emergency’ caused by man, especially man in the developed countries (the ‘liberal guild effect), than every able minded scientist is needed to study it and confirm it, making their careers in the process.
As for ’scientists’ studying it, then you can rule out anything Al Gore has to say, along with groups such as Greenpeace, both being examples of ideologies without any training in the fields in question. In short, what they have to say matters no more than what you or I have to say.
At the same time, there is a growing number of scientists who do not believe in man-made Global Warming, however organizations such as the EPA, IPCC and Greenpeace do whatever they can to silence them, less they get the spotlight and destroy the above-listed organizations.
I myself initially though that Man-Made Global Warming was possible, even probable, until I did research and found out what the numbers are, as well as found out what the background of the Earth’s climate was, the long term weather cycles (1,500 year hurricane cycle as one example) and the influence of the Sun.
As for myself, I use history as the standard and evaluating tool for all of my stances, whether it be economics, domestic issues, international affairs or the ‘climate change’ scare. I do not support things which have historically been shown to fail or are closely related to such things. At the same time, I strongly support things which have been shown to succeed throughout history. I must admit I once thought similar to how you do now, however then I discovered history and it greatly altered my perception of the world, realizing that things which sound good now have failed repeatedly in the past.

Is Palin A Quitter or Climber?
Sarah Palin is a quitter, according to certain commentators, because she did not serve out her term of office. If that is the case, Palin is in “good” company.
I present to you, Barack Obama, photographed in front of the Capitol, the building where he served for less than two years of his 6-year Senate term before starting the process of running for President, something he promised the voters during his senatorial campaign he would not do:
Sen. Barack Obama acknowledged Sunday [October 22, 2006] he was considering a run for president in 2008, backing off previous statements that he would not do so. The Illinois Democrat said he could no longer stand by the statements he made after his 2004 election and earlier this year that he would serve a full six-year term in Congress.
But that was different, because Obama was advancing his own career, so he was not a quitter, just a climber. Is Palin a quitter or climber? We’ll see.
@Stephen
You mean that if I worked for an agency that was funded by global warming money, that I would find just the kind of evidence needed to prove it? No way. Would that also be similar to having a government run job but voting for whoever was going to enlarge government even though there’s no money for it instead of making layoffs? That wouldn’t make any sense, would it? Or if I’m on government assistance, there’s no way I would vote for what’s best for the country – just who’s going to give me more.
Nobody At All@04:28 pm, the difference is totally obvious. There’s nothing to compare there.
First, Sarah Palin SAID she was quitting because of too many ethics complaints.
Second, she did not announce that she was leaving to run for President. Or Congress. Or Senator. Or School Board. Or Mrs. Alaska. Or homecoming queen.
She announced no plans, of any nature.

Is Palin A Quitter or Climber?
Sarah Palin is a quitter, according to certain commentators, because she did not serve out her term of office. If that is the case, Palin is in “good” company.
Ahh Carros. Just as I suspected. A soulmate of Stephen. And you guys wonder why our country is in trouble? The blind leading the deluded leading the hypocritical….it already happened for 8 straight years, and led directly to the mess our country is in right now, and you guys want even more of it….let’s see, more of the very same FAILURE that gave us the problem is the solution to the problem, right? What does your historical perspective say about that Stephen?
“global warming money”? “history as the standard and evaluating tool for all of my stances”? “organizations such as the EPA, IPCC and Greenpeace do whatever they can to silence them”? “they are just as likely to be bias as those funded in part or fully by oil companies”? This is what I call rightwing drivel, just utter solid waste. Where is YOUR proof of any of these neo-fairytales and conspiracy theories? Like your bretheren on FoxNews you take a little bit of fact here, news there, history over here and then make up the rest as you go to fit your biased, rightwing ideologic stances.
Finally, you being a Christian Stephen, I would be really amused if you were to ask Christ those same questions about the poor that you posed to me. I wonder if he would be as impressed as you seem to be with your ability to garb human suffering in a swirl of historical anecdotes and biased factoids? I seriously doubt it. I suggest you take a step back and evaluate your political stances, and ask yourself at each turn if those stances are Christ-like. If you think they are, I stand in awe of your ability to self-delude. I’ll pray for your enlightenment.
Geez. Poor Sarah. My, my, we’re off-topic again, and not talking about her! Hope she doesn’t throw a tantrum and quit….ooops, been there, done that.
if you have 10 bucks in income and a 100 bucks in debt., who gets paid?
just as i thought we got finally got rid of sarah palin……
JUST AS I THOUGHT WE FINALLY GOT RID OF SARAH PALIN……..
It’s amazing how y’all try to pull a rabbit out of a hat. It’s no secret that Palin has a Defense Fund to help her pay down her debt, y’all make it sound like she’s tried to hide it…it’s all over the place. And the spin on the state lawyers…you guys crack me up. Yes the money may have been budgeted, but that bugeted money would still be there if not for the dumb lawsuits..but obviously y’all don’t get it.
Palin stepped down for the future task of becoming president after president Obama is impeached due to fraud, he paid millions of dollars to have his past record locked. The real reason is here!!
Poverty is enslavement, so is ignorance, we need to be doing our own credible research in facts not rumors, so that we could not be deceived by looks and flowery promises of our politicians. We the Americans should create our own grassroots to protect us from these vultures. FOR OUR OWN INTEREST (Americans)! A watchdog of all types against our leaders to continually watch for the best interest of American people, funded by the American people, not special interest groups, corporations or lobbyist. No party affiliation. A cable network run by volunteers in all aspects of life, by the American people, free and accurate information feed to the American people with all honesty. We the people can do it! But where do we start ???? Don’t trust our futures in the sweet talks of the politicians.
If we love a certain candidate we love them, but if they actually commit a fraud and is being kept secret from us, they must be exposed and pay the consequence!
We better start thinking a new breed of leader!
sue, i like you!
Is this that hard to figure out?? TIME SPENT ON THE FRIVOLOUS COMPLAINTS COULD BE SPENT ELSEWHERE TO BENEFIT ALASKA!
Do you really think troopers, roads, teachers, fish research don’t require any contracts or legal work??
@Kenneth
It is not right wing drivel to have MY OWN RESEARCHED opinions. Yet in all of your comments you have yet to give any examples or back up for your beliefs. How about instead of character assasinations because we have different viewpoints, you give us proof to change our mind?
As for the Christian comment – you really think that paying the government is substitute for volunteering your time or donating food/money to the needy? That’s what the problem with this system is – they try to throw money (tax money) at the problem. Just look at Baltimore City schools. Look at the ratio of administrators to teachers and the amount spent per student compared to the rest of the state. Then look at their test scores, graduation rates, etc compared to the rest of the state.
Cephas….of course Texas is still working….all that croney money coming in during the W years……Bush was no dummy….keep spreading the good news about Texas and you will welcome whole lotta new residents as the Bush Depression keeps maturing, think of as a computer virus…..full activation is yet ahead….
Fine, if you want me to address your points word-for-word, I can do that.
“So we shouldn’t wait for the FACTS to come in concerning whether or not our government’s policies in fact are working”
All the facts necessary are in from historical procedures similar to this one. To ‘enlighten’ you as you put it with regard to me, here are the following major problems with the Obama plans which have it marked for dead:
Firstly he raises taxes, the worst thing to do in a recession given that everyone has less money and forcing more of it to go to the government will only stunt economic growth. As companies pay more in taxes and get less money from revenues, they will be unable to curb the unemployment trend because they will not have enough money to hire people.
Secondly, you have the so-called Stimulus, which will only create short-term jobs, primarily in construction as you don’t build a bridge, destroy it, rebuild it and so fourth. After the projects are completed, the people will be unemployed again. The only real legacy of the Stimulus will be massive international debt, a decreased value of the USD and rising inflation, all of which are bad for the economy.
Thirdly he seeks to establish the cap-and-trade system, which will increase the cost of energy, thus keeping ever more money out of the market. At the same time, the increased cost of energy will make it impossible to compete with China and India, and push the US towards economic stagnation.
Fourthly he seeks to let the Bush tax cuts lapse, something which will prove catastrophic with regard to the Capitol Gains tax and stock trading, as more people will avoid the stock market, and if they do stay in, they will hold onto stocks, not buy or sell. Thus investment will fall and so will confidence in the economy, reinforcing the recession to continue.
Fifthly, there is the talk of raising the minimum wage by around $1.00, a move which like tax increases, goes completely in the face of economics. Companies, which due to reduced sales have less money, will in turn hire fewer workers because they cannot afford the additional cost, thus keeping unemployment up. This pattern will be made worse by the new taxes I mentioned above and letting the tax cuts lapse, thus such irresponsible actions may, if unchecked, turn a recession into a depression.
Finally he seeks to pass massive bills with regard to a health-care overhaul during a recession. The health care bill has nothing to do with helping the economy and its cost and the subsequent weakening of the dollar, international debt and inflation will only make things worse than they already are.
So in the end, this recession will become the Obama Depression based on the results of the policies listed above, unless things take a change of course. You may say ‘wait for facts’ but when the results come in, when things get worse as opposed to better, you will have nowhere to go, no way to dodge the bullet of truth.
Again, @Kenneth
““global warming money”? “history as the standard and evaluating tool for all of my stances”? “organizations such as the EPA, IPCC and Greenpeace do whatever they can to silence them”? “they are just as likely to be bias as those funded in part or fully by oil companies”? This is what I call rightwing drivel, just utter solid waste. Where is YOUR proof of any of these neo-fairytales and conspiracy theories?”
Firstly, where is your proof that there is no bias in the openly environmentalist-funded organizations? It is only natural to suspect that any scientist associated with a special interest group would have bias in the group’s favor. What evidence do you have that they would refrain from lying to further their careers, blind faith aside.
As for Man-Made Global Warming, have you even looked into the research presented by both sides? Or have you simply been a ’sheep’ and simply followed whatever any ‘expert said? As for me, I initially approached the subject believing that it was both possible and probable. However in a college paper a few years ago when you were to choose two sides of an argument, analyze them and then decide who had the better argument I chose Global Warming, as I was interested to learn more about it. The more I read (two 30+ page papers, one being from the IPCC) the more holes I saw in the theory, especially when I found out about the massive role of Water Vapor and the minuscule amount of CO2 which is man-made. Following that I have kept track of announcements via the internet news (not Fox, something I only started to watch within the past year) and have found out so much about the sun-spot cycles and variations, the long term hurricane cycles, oceanic cycles and so fourth, ultimately siding with the solar osculation or ’sunspot’ theory as the most logical for the main driver of the recent climate change, with long-term Ocean Cycles and Cosmic Rays being the other major components.
As for you, what proof do you have that the the theory of Man-Made Global Warming is true? You have linked me nothing and have only said that there ‘is a consensus’, which is meaningless. There was a consensus that the earth’s landscapes were formed by the ’shriveling apple effect,’ that bloodletting promoted health, that taking baths caused colds, that the earth is the center of the universe, that the world economy couldn’t survive without slavery, that appeasement and disarmament were the correct way to prevent war….I can go on and on about historical consensus all of which have failed. Indeed, every scientific theory which has been disproved was at one time a ‘consensus.’
With regard to history, what other reliable standard would anyone else use? What other reliable standard is there for that matter, as wanting something to work one way is by no means a substitute for historical evidence that it works the other.
And finally with your insults against me…I have addressed this numerous times before, it’s crude and rude, especially with regard to my faith. Btw, here is some food for thought:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/21/opinion/21kristof.html?_r=1&ref=opinion

The US would be a far better place if the Christian Community was supported and encouraged to expand with regard to charitable donations, as the NYT and ABC articles above show.
Well then Carros, it is not character assination to state my own “RESEARCHED OPINION” that you are a hypocritical fool. You are a hypocrit because while you blame the “system” for helping the poor using your tax money, you claim to merely follow another system (charity) for doing the same thing. And, given your demeaning rhetoric on the poor (more of your researched opinion?), I’m not sure why you even bother to help, since you and Stephen have such a refined and historical view of what pathetic human beings the poor really are.
You are a fool because if you really do think you are politically independent, your comments on here prove you to be deluded. You might have disagreed with Bush and his [R] lemmings on an issue here and there, but like Mr. O’Reilly, it is abjectly disingenuous for you to think that makes you an “independent thinker”. You spout the rightwing mantra on here quite consistently; you’ve made it quite clear that you are anti-tax, anti-Al Gore, anti-poor, anti-global warming….pray-tell is there anything of significance that you are anti- that the [R] side of the house holds dear?
Now you wish me to back-up my BELIEFS: but truth be told there is little in what I’ve said that needs research, because it is established, if not obvious, fact: e.g. the economy in the Clinton years, the economy during the Bush years, climate change……my friend, these are FACTS not BELIEFS. But you on the other hand do have some “backing up” to do: for example, please show me a budgeted line item for “global warming money”. Or maybe Stephen can show us real evidence that “organizations such as the EPA, IPCC and Greenpeace do whatever they can to silence” credible research that does not fit the global warming mold.
This kind of bait-and-switch with the facts and self-serving psuedo-analysis that you neo-pups are infamous for illustrates the VERY reason why it is such a joke that you label yourselves “conservative”. Real conservatives do not pull such reactionary shenanigans with logic and made-up “facts”. Real conservatives are grounded in the real world, grounded in the very conservative process of science, and not in some make-believe world for rightwing drama queens. I’ll take “real” conservatives over Sarah’s “real” Americans any day.
Honestly Kenneth, this is the last attack that I’m going to take from you because there is no point arguing with someone who can not open their mind to other peoples views because they are so prejudiced against what they believe the right is all about that they are willing to judge and label people based on a few comments, half of which are taken out of context.
For the record, I was poor and a single parent. Not that I’m rich now, but I’ve WORKED my way out of it, so for you to say that I am anti-poor just proves that you are more than willing to resort to baseless name-calling unlike the “adult” you have claimed to be.
Again, give me solid proof about climate change (that is caused by man) and why I should trust a lawyer’s word over a scientist and I will believe you.
And the fact that your BELIEFS do not need to be researched because they are already established proves that indeed, I am not the fool here. Remember when it was established that the Earth was flat? No research needed.
Real conservatives also realize that life is not fair, not everyone is going to have the same. That’s called communism and it hasn’t worked yet.

“EPA May Have Suppressed Report Skeptical Of Global Warming”
And referring to your comment yesterday at 3:02, you do know that those horrible tax cuts that only helped the rich didn’t, right? In fact, once you make over a certain amount (depending on filing status), your exemptions, your deductions, and your tax credits are all phased out. So, if you made under $100,000, they probably would’ve helped. I know they did for me when I was barely getting by.
As for those business tax cuts – they helped a lot of small businesses, you know so that they could buy more equipment & supplies for their businesses, which in turn, what? Oh, helped other businesses make money, which helped the state make money through sales tax and the federal government through income taxes.
Oh Stephen, you and your right wing talking points. We should just give up and go work for Rush Limbaugh since we don’t have minds of our own and just follow his words….oh wait I don’t even listen to him!
Walter Neff…
your post was almost exactly the same as the post from a couple of days ago from the mudflats dot net. Great minds…
John McCain is the culprit !
Sarah Palin is a lying, sociopathic c**t. What is really astonishing is the depth and breadth of her lies. She,in her deranged mind, believes that she can say anything (”Department of Law,” anyone?) and we are supposed to believe it. Her minions, of course, DO believe it. Who remembers when she mentioned Obama at a campaign rally and some yahoo in the crowd shouted “KILL HIM!”. Caribou Barbie NEVER repudiated that. Then we have the likes of Rush Limbaugh who openly says he wants Obama to fail. If someone had said of of Prince Bunnypants (AKA George W. Bush), Rush’s head would have exploded while he was denouncing “Liberals” who were disrespectful of The Office of the President. Republicans’ hypocrisy has no limits, and it plays out on the news every day. Anyway, I just wish Sarah Palin would slither back under her hillbilly rock and just f***ing GO AWAY.
@David
Multiple witnesses noted people were yelling ‘abort Sarah Palin’ at counter-rallies next to her rallies, and as for that ‘kill him’ comment, only one person heard that, and that wasn’t Sarah so she had nothing to report.
As for ‘wanting Bush to fail,’ you apparently had never watched any media outlet for that was the tone of all the messages with regard to the Iraq war, as there was hope that it would fail so Bush could have been booted from office in complete discrase, however those hops were dashed with the improved conditions in Iraq following 2005. Bush was able to screw things up at home enough in 2007-2008 to leave office little better off. Other things which the left ‘wanted to fail’ were the Social Security privatization attempt (which did fail, and which was originally proposed under Clinton) as well as attempts to reign in Freddy Mack and Fanny Mae in 2003 and 2005(which also failed thanks to Barny Frank).
It seems your charges of hypocrisy are unfounded. Please quit being among the sheep of society that watch the news, believe everything reporters say and do no research of your own. People who live like that are the reason why Nazism and Communism were able to grow and dominate governments.
@carros
Yeah, we’re both mouth pieces who know nothing, never pay attention to anything but Fox News and Talk Radio, pull numbers out of our asses and are the reason for society being as bad as it is now. We are hypnotized by Fox News as part of a global Right Wing Conspiracy started by Nazis who fled to Argentina in 1945 in their attempt to create the ‘Fourth Reich.’ I’m impressed that the far left has figured out this carefully orchestrated plan.
I want to see the Tina Fey version of the resignation speech. I think Palin purposely quit while SNL was on summer hiatus.
Ooops, Stephen and carros: I though we were done, because I knew you couldn’t answer my questions to you truthfully. Specifically I knew you two couldn’t come up with facts or evidence to support your claims that “organizations such as the EPA, IPCC and Greenpeace do whatever they can to silence” credible research that does not fit the global warming mold. And indeed you haven’t, despite Stephen’s reference to the story “EPA May Have Suppressed Report Skeptical Of Global Warming”.
Did you actually read that story? Or are you being purposefully disingenuous? FACTS: The author of the report that is purportedly being “suppressed” is NOT a climate scientist and he does NOT do climate research. And, not surprisingly, the report itself is NOT a scientific report. By the author’s own admission his report is about his own VIEWS and OPINIONS on climate change, which I would hope even he would not claim to be a credible piece of scientific research. Apparently the EPA people who wrote the final EPA recommendation had access to his report and treated it for what it was.
Now there are a lot of unanswered questions from the story about how his report was handled internally….I find the story woefully incomplete…but I will agree with you that any policially motivated supression of his “views” should be addressed. But, for anybody to compare, as the story itself tried to, this incident with the supression of real scientific reports by politically appointed aparatchiks in the Bush administration, is absolutely ludicrous.
One final thought Stephen: I have IN NO WAY insulted your faith. Again, please show me where I have done so. Your claim that I have done this is just, to me, further evidence of your rightwing reactionaryism. For example, my challenge to you to review your policial “beliefs” in the light of Christ’s teachings was done from a Christian viewpoint. My own opinion that your political views show you to be a moron or retarded, or both, is not in the least a slight on your religion. In fact, I have been taught that Christ loves all, morons and retards and rightwingers alike.
IT IS EASY TO SIT IN YOUR (GLASSHOUSES) AND LAY BLAME AND WHATEVER ELSE YOU CAN PUT ON HER. BUT SHE DOES KNOW WHAT SHE IS TALKING ABOUT AS FAR CAP AND TRADE (ENERGY)YOU BLAME HER FOR WHAT, AT LEAST SHE NEVER GAVE INTO OBAMA AND QUIT LIKE HILLARY CLINTON DID, AND WITRH THE MESS THAT BARACK HUSSIEN OBAMA HAS IN KNOW GOD HELP US BECASUE WE ARE GOING TO BE A NATION OF ISLAM HOPE YOU PEOPLE ARE READY FOR THAT. MAYBE IT IS TIME YOU GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE AND GET WITH THE PROGRAM I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE TERRORIST ATTACKS TO BEGINMN THEN YOU HAVE NOONE TO BLAME EXCEPT FOR YOURSELVES AND OBAMA.
Can anyone name just one job that Sarah Palin started and also finished?
So quiting in her first term is par for the course!!!!!!!!!
oh my dear lord i’m impresed
