Jeb Bush: GOP Is “Old White Guy Party”; “We Can’t Just Be Party Of No”
There seems to be a growing consensus among former GOP officials that their party has been successfully defined — or has defined itself — in very damaging terms as reflexively obstructionist and opposed at all costs to helping the majority party govern the country.
Along these lines, former governor Jeb Bush offered a scathing assessment of his party’s political difficulties in a speech yesterday at George Washington University, calling the GOP the “old white guy party” and insisting it must shed its image as the “party of No.”
The university’s paper, the GW Hatchet, picks up the story:
“You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to realize that in order for a political party to be successful it has to reach out to everyone,” Bush said. “In politics, you never win when you say ‘us and them.’ We need a more welcoming message.”
Bush added that his party needs to modernize and embrace 21st ideals and technology.
“I sense that our party is kind of in a nostalgic mode where we look back to the good old days,” Bush said. “However good they were, and there were some good days, is completely irrelevant in 2009.”
Bush discussed the need for reform in education, particularly the embracement of technology in the classroom. Bush said the Republicans need to lead the charge on education issues, as well as on energy policy, immigration policy and a foreign policy that defends America’s interests.
“We just can’t be the party of no.
“Republicans need to offer, based on their own principles, solutions to these problems,” he said.
Andrew Clark, a spokesman for the GW College Republicans, who hosted the speech, confirmed the accuracy of the account to our reporter, Beth Marlowe, though he qualified that Bush also said the “party of No” label was not accurate, which doesn’t materially alter his assessment of the party’s political travails.
Dems have been pushing the line that the GOP’s knee-jerk obstructionism has effectively exiled the party from participating meaningfully in the great debates over the direction of our country, and it doesn’t hurt Dems when someone like Jeb Bush offers a similar diagnosis.

Hey Bilge (I know you’ll be here soon). In case you missed this, good luck with that mighty ‘base’ of yours:
A new CNN/Opinion Research poll finds the Republican Party’s favorable rating is at lowest level in at least a decade. Just 36% of those questioned say they have a favorable opinion of the GOP, with 54% viewing the party negatively.
In contrast, 53% have a positive opinion of the Democratic Party, with 41% holding an unfavorable view.
And here’s another for you:
Research 2000:
FAVORABLE UNFAVORABLE
PRESIDENT OBAMA 56 37
CONGRESSIONAL DEMS: 40 53
CONGRESSIONAL GOPS: 15 70
DEMOCRATIC PARTY: 42 50
REPUBLICAN PARTY: 20 67
well, even a stopped watch is right twice a day, so why not Jeb as well?
The problem is that the leaders of the GOP seem hunky-dory happy to be defined this way as their fringe members want them to be the party of “no”. The realists within the party, especially those who long for a return to national prominence are not so in favor but their voices are being drowned out.
ZOMG GREG! HOW CAN U IGNORE THE STORY ABOUT OBAMA BEING BORN IN A CAVE ON THE BORDER OF CHINA AND RUSSIA AND RAISED BY PUTIN!!!
IT’S THE BIGGEST STORY ON TEH NEWZ TODAY YOU SOCIALIST!!!11!!
Wait until SBJ gets wind of this racial comment by Jeb Bush.
SBJ will be so incensed that he will make sure to go vote against President Obama twice, or more, in 2012.
See, here’s the problem I see. The Republicans have been taken over by the loudmouths on the radio and on Fox Propaganda network. Nobody can run without passing their smell test. The WH was smart to elevate Rush and now Fox. They know those two, which are one in the same, cannot help themselves but to be as vicious and vile as possible because it makes them richer.
Any reasonable discussion is out the window with the opposition now because people like Rush can’t help themselves. They are now the face of the Republican party.
Good luck with that one guys.
Jeb,
You might want to pass on the word to poor old addled Pat Buchanan. He is under the impression that he has lost his Old White Guys Only Party. Send someone to pick him up, and get him back home.
YES YOU CAN!
Well, to be fair: Republicans are willing to broaden their Party, just as long as they do not have to let in Blacks, Latinos, G@ys, Union Members, Working Women, Women on the Pill, Women who will not work for less, and anyone who uses the word empathy.
Aside from those few malcontents, The Republican Party is now a Big Tent for All to enter.
Gotta love this prez’s rope-a-dope or 11th dimensional chess, whatever you call it. Framing goposaurs as a party of no and limpaugh and faux news is starting to stick. jeb bush, a progeny of a racist family, is panicking now that their racist party is being exposed.
Raising taxes three different ways and making hiring an employee less attractive than ever: it’s a young black thing, you wouldn’t understand.
And no, no we don’t understand. Enjoy your moment in the sun while it lasts (is it even still going on?). When unemployment is still at or above 10% despite comrade Obama’s best efforts (at raising taxes) you will see that being the “white guy” party is not the worst thing that can befall a political party.
Mr. Sargent:
“Along these lines, former governor Jeb Bush offered a scathing assessment of his party’s political difficulties in a speech yesterday at George Washington University, calling the GOP the “old white guy party” and insisting it must shed its image as the “party of No.””
Memo to Guvnah Bush:
1) It all depends on what you’re saying “No!” to. Saying “No!” to Obamaism is a Good Thing. Saying “NO!” To iranian nuclear ambitions is also a Good Thing.
2) “Old White Guy Party”. Jeb, go to the bathroom, take off all of your clothes and then look at yourself in the mirror. What do you see? A Black female teenager?
You are soon going to be, if you aren’t already, an “Old White Guy”.
Old White Guys need representation at the Federal level too,(in case you were unaware of that fact), and so, we will likely elect one of our own,9although not necessarily you), to represent us.
Now I would suggest that if you want to play the Democrats’ racialist game, you worry about representing what you ARE, and leave the Old Latina Women and the Middle aged Muslim Transgendered to field their OWN representatives.
3) I realize that George kinda soured the well for you with the Conservative base of the GOP, but really, there ain’t no future with the RINO moderates.
If folks want moonbat policies, they’ll vote the Dem ticket every time, and not some Democrat-Substitute.
Thank you for your service to the citizens of Florida, I am not now, nor have i ever been, a Floridian, but I heard good things about your tenure there.
“Bush added that his party needs to modernize and embrace 21st ideals and technology.”
Doesn’t he know that teh Republicans are winning the Twitter?
Interesting that Jeb highlights education and technology in the classroom. I suspect that he is previewing a campaign that will blame Obama and the Dems for our sorry educational system – smart move, but good luck with that.
If Obama tries to say “old white guy party”, he’ll be crucified, Jeb does it and its just truthiness? Talk about hypocrisy.
See, right wing ideologues like Hannity, Levin, Beck and Limbaugh are wrong. The WH doesn’t want them to be silenced nor are they thin skinned.
The WH elevates them.
The WH makes sure everyone knows they are the voices of opposition. Let America know, these are the leaders of the Republican party that are in opposition to this WH. Put the spot light on them for everyone to see.
The more the WH pokes them, the louder and more hateful they get. The right wing ideologues can’t help themselves. They thrive monetarily on hate. The harsher they get, the more excited their followers get.
O.K. I think I’ve gone off the deep end! heh…more coffee…more coffee
sbj – you’re getting to be stupider by each post.
Prediction: Jeb runs on a campaign ==> “A NetBook” for every student in America.
“stupider?”
yes sbj you moran
Oh, so now it’s two against one?
sbj – “I suspect that he is previewing a campaign that will blame Obama and the Dems for our sorry educational system”
I rest my case. You’re now poaching bilge’s territory. You’ve been warned.
sbj:
“Oh, so now it’s two against one”
Just remember, it’s not “phag-bashing” when moonbats do it!
The GOP’s problem isn’t that they’ve let themselves be improperly defined, it’s that they have been identified, and that identity is exactly as many of them are lamenting about. They need to get with modern technology? Are you kidding me? They are the party of Palin, Bachmann, Limbaugh and Beck, and the rank and file Republican supporters are 4 square behind that identity.
amk:
“I rest my case. You’re now poaching bilge’s territory. You’ve been warned.”
I really must compliment you on how dashing you look in your new Komissar’s uniform.

Earlier this month, Jeb Bush praised Obama’s education reforms and Arne Duncan. Seemed to think the Repubs. should get on board, as Obama is taking on Teacher’s Union to some extent.

bilge – you prove Einstein’s other theory of relativity. I bet you don’t know what it is.
sbj – I toldja.
Something along the lines – “The Republicans blew it on education, and then the Democrats took control and proceeded to bail out Wall Street bankers while letting them take huge bonuses, padded union wallets by buying GM, and pay off pharmaceutical manufacturers in a backroom deal. Why did bankers and unions and healthcare profiteers get their backroom deals and bailouts before our children? I’m proposing broadband wireless to every school in the country and a NetBook for every student in the country – completely paid for by a tax on the most wealthy.”
I’m not saying it’s accurate to blame Obama and the Dems – this is politics, right?
@lmsinca:
Oh.
Well nevermind then!
How about those Angels?
I know, I only caught the last 5 innings, came in to my sister’s to see Scioscia pull Lackey out, DUH!! But they came back anyway. We live to see another day.
You know that 9 times out of 10 Scioscia is brilliant with his pitching moves. The team really came through and bailed him out. If only Fuentes hadn’t thrown that high outside pitch in game two we’d be up by one…
One quick thought on the “Old White Guy” party. Not only are they being obstuctionists they’re operating on fear. They have bought into the Paranoia of the far right wing and are using it as Party Discipline and Strategy. It’s a Twilight Zone that won’t earn them many new votes going forward IMHO.
Hey Bilge: No comment on the polls posted up top? They don’t fit your cherry-picks?
And as far as old white guys needing representation too, have you counted the number of black GOP Congresspeople? I have: zero.
I also love how now, after 8 years of abject failure and having left office with 25 percent ‘approval,’ it seems Bush, Warrior Hero, was not really ‘conservative.’
You are a piece of work. Speaking of which: do you do any, or just haunt the blogs all day?
Here’s a funny quote from Johnathan Chaite on “Obama’s Sinister Offensive”. He pretty much gives a bit of perspective on how paranoid the right has become.
“That’s the sum total of this dark White House strategy? Pointing out that a wildly biased right-wing network is not a legitimate news organization? If that’s Chicago style politics, then Chicago must not be such a bad place.”
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/10/23/cnn-poll-gop-favorable-rating-lowest-in-25-years/
“The Republican Party’s favorable rating among Americans is at lowest level in at least a decade, according to a new national poll.
Thirty-six percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Friday say they have a favorable opinion of the Republican Party, with 54 percent viewing the GOP negatively.
According to the poll, 53 percent have a positive opinion of the Democratic Party, with 41 percent holding an unfavorable view. The survey indicates that favorable ratings for the Democrats have dropped 5 points since February, with the Republican number slipping 3 points.”
This is despite the constant 24/7 bashing of the dems have received from the frigging msm since Jan 20, 2009. Well done faux news & msm and rethugs.
Maybe the teabaggers didn’t march around with enough Obama is a Nazi posters. Maybe that will help the Republicans image more.
amk
All their blustering and “Marxist, Socialism paranoia” are up against a President and Congress who is actually getting some things done for the middle class and the country after years of neglect. I’m just not that worried about a big comeback in 2010 o 2012 are you? The American people are smarter than that. And Dick Cheney has no influence whatsoever outside of his “groupies”.
edit: who are
Yeah Mike or they could try some sort of “alien abduction of Hawaiian baby at birth” scenario and see how that works.
@lmsinca: You’re my favorite, you know that, right?
“Actually getting some things done for the middle class”
I wish I felt that way. As a solidly middle class inhabitant of SoCal I can’t think of much benefit I’ve yet reaped? I understand things might have been worse without the stimulus but there’s nothing really tangible there that I can point to. TARP II? I suppose my 401k could be worse – but it still sucks. Foreclosure help? I rent. Cash for clunkers? Already had a fuel efficient car. That tax break? $20 every two weeks I’m guessing – so small I don’t really notice it. Healthcare reform? I’m already covered and I love my insurer.
lmsinca – yup, the repugs chose a wrong ’stratergy’ with this prez (teabagging – without even realizing teh irony of it, hope obama fails from drugged out limp, conspiracy theory extraordiniare glenda, no to anything and everything from goopers, racist chants in townhalls …the list is endless). Shows you how stoopid their “leaders” are.
@Insimca,
Welcome back. Did you have a good trip? I kept my promise and rooted your Angels into a win last night. It was a tough sled. One more win, and then the Yankees might start to feel their collars tightening.
I am a life long White Sox Fan, so I do not get to see Sciosa managed games, except when he plays the Sox, or in the playoffs.
Watching his managing not to lose, style would drive me crazy. I could not believe that, with two out, and a one run lead, he decided to walk the tying run. ARod could not hit a two run homer with no one on base, but by putting him on base, the guy behind him could. I do not care how hot ARod has been, the odds were still about nine to one against him hitting a home run in that at bat. Sciosa took his own closer out of his comfort zone, with that intentional walk, and it was almost a disaster.
One thing Sciosa does that I can not understand. with runners on second and third, with one out, he pitches to power hitters. That means he has almost no chance of a double play, and ends up always having to pitch to at least two batters.
I was glad that he did it in 2005 against Paul Konerko. You recall how the Sox pitchers were lights out, and they made small leads stand up. I think it was the first game of the playoff series at your park. In one of the early innings, Paul Konerko, who was a red hot power hitter ,was up, with men on second and third, and one out. Konerko is so slow that he has to be timed with a sundial. I though for sure that Sciosa was going to put him on, to clog up the bases, and set up for a double play. Instead he pitched to him. Three run homer to left, and it held up for the Sox win.
When the hell is Sciosa going to try and get a runner in from third, with one out, by trying to bunt, especially against the Yankees closer. He is almost impossible to drive the ball far enough against to get a sacrifice fly, but yet your manager just will not try to make that old closer field a bunt.

I, I, I, I, I,
It always has to be what is in it for you, and not for the greater good.
Thanks for spelling out, once again, why you are just a Selfish Prick.
@lmsinca: You’re my favorite, you know that, right?
That’s just because I haven’t royally pissed you off yet with my “vile and immoral ideas”, “moral superiority”, “lack of integrity” and “lying ways”. You’re the only one left and besides you like the Angels.
Give Obama a chance, he’s working on it and has a dysfunctional family (congress) as a head wind. Let’s revisit the issue in a year. And you love your insurance because you are lucky enough to have insurance.
Now you’re getting into dangerous territory. Scioscia is generally regarded as one of the best managers in all of baseball.
“Under the leadership of Stoneman and Scioscia, the Angels ended their 15-year playoff drought in 2002, winning the AL Wild Card and ultimately winning the franchise’s first World Series…In winning the series, Scioscia became the 17th person to win a World Series as both a player and a manager (not including those who won as a player-manager).
“Scioscia was honored as 2002 American League Major League Manager of Year by the Baseball Writers Association of America (the official Manager of the Year award, as recognized by Major League Baseball)….
“The Angels under Scioscia would go on to enjoy a period of on-field success never before seen in franchise history, winning five American League West division titles in six years (surpassing the number won by all previous Angels managers combined). Scioscia’s Angels broke the franchise single-season win record with 99 wins in 2002, and again with 100 wins in 2008. However, they have yet to win another American League pennant or World Series since their memorable 2002 run.
“Scioscia is currently the Angels’ all-time leader in wins and games managed, surpassing original manager Bill Rigney’s totals in both categories in 2007 and 2008, respectively. He is also currently the longest tenured manager in the American League, and third longest in MLB behind Tony La Russa and Bobby Cox.”
========
“The Angels have been recognized for the past decade as the most over-achieving team in the majors, and Scioscia is their architect. It is impossible to find anyone to say a bad word about the man, or his record. The Angels represent stability, hustle, smart decision-making.
“Girardi calls Scioscia “the face of that club for the last 10 years,” just as Torre once was for the Yankees. Scioscia, a lifetime .259 hitter with the Dodgers, has 900 wins and five first-place finishes in 10 years, a pennant and a World Series championship in Anaheim. If it weren’t for the Red Sox, his traditional tormentors, he’d have even more. Scioscia is already past the Red Sox, who were going to be the Angels’ executioners again.
“Everybody admires the way his team approaches the sport. The Angels played small ball again this season, batted .285 and stole another 148 bases. They gave up 51 fewer unintentional walks than the Yankees. Every base counted.
“In March in Los Angeles, Derek Jeter stood outside a clubhouse at Dodger Stadium after the U.S. had lost in the World Baseball Classic and delivered the greatest compliment to the victorious Japanese.
“You know what?” Jeter said. “They remind me a lot of the Angels. They run, they take pitches, they create runs.”
“That has been Scioscia Ball…”

That, but also, Kaiser Permanente does a really good job!
Thanks Liam
The trip was actually sort of depressing but I’m home now and glad of it. My husband always manages to cheer me up. He called last night yelling about Scioscia and did I see it? All I can tell you about Scioscia is he’s really a great manager, but for some reason he manages different during playoffs than in the regular season. They also missed the perfect opportunity for a squeeze play last night. And if I ever see Kazmir again it will be too soon. He didn’t get us to the playoffs and hasn’t done us any favors yet.
Like I said. I do not see regular season Angels games. He sure has been playing not to lose, in this series. He he had plenty of chances to win game two, which would have them up three games to two now.
As I watched the game last night, when they had the four run lead, and they kept getting runners in scoring position but did not bring any of them in, I kept feeling that those four runs will not be enough. He also should not have pulled his starting Pitcher when he did.
He is competing against an all star, hitting and pitching lineup. The best that money can buy. He needs to pull out all the stops, to have any chance.
I still say putting ARod on with two out, and a one run lead, was a dumb move.
If I never see Kazmir again-Gosh
“He had plenty of chances to win game two.”
Yes, well, if he was still catching and batting maybe…
“He also should not have pulled his starting Pitcher when he did.”
Probably, but hindsight is 20-20 and Scioscia is renowned for handling the pitching staff.
“I still say putting ARod on with two out, and a one run lead, was a dumb move.”
One problem, the last time they pitched to him in that situation he tied the game and the Yankees went on to win.
This time he didn’t and the Angels won.
It has been raining here in the Midwest for most of the month. It finally let up a little this afternoon, so I went for my three mile walk. I met a neighbor, and we chatted for a while. His company has moved all of their tool manufacturing business to China, so his family has to make every dollar count.
He said that he used to never shop at Wal-Mart, because of how they undercoat good paying manufacturing jobs by importing almost all their consumer goods from China. Now he has found himself being forced to shop at Wal-Mart, because that is all he can afford, and he hates having to do it.
I mused on his plight as I wend my way homeward.
It occurred to me that this is a contemporary version of the old oppressive Share Cropping system, where the workers made very little, and could only purchase from the Company Store. The Share Croppers never got out of debt to the land owners, because they had to purchase on store credit, until the crops were harvested, and when the were, all of the money was already owed to the store.
Notice how lay-away is coming back. That is the canary in the coal mine, that is telling us that the bad times have returned for working class people, and are back to stay.

how they undercut
Insimca,
You can not manage the game by what a batter did in a previous game. That was also a road game, an ARod led off the inning. Apples and Oranges. Do the math. ARod does not hit a home run in a least eight out of nine time at bat, on average, and with two out, and your closer on the mound, you have to let him close the damn game. Instead you brought the lead run to the plate, got your closer out of his groove, by forcing him to worry about not letting the runner steal second, and he damn near walked in the tying run. It was a dumb move.
and ARod..
“It was a dumb move.”
Ahem
They won the game!
Hey Liam
I agree with you, as usual it’s sbj who is the contrarian, I wouldn’t have walked ARod either, that was another dum move by Scioscia.
Thanks Capt obvious. It was still a dumb move to bring the lead run to the plate. Just because they barely got away with a dumb move, does not make it a smart move, anymore than if you do not get hit running a red light, makes it a smart move.
@Insimca,
Contrarian is your lovely genteel way of describing SBJ.
He is most often in agreement with the likes of QB, Bilgey, and Huge Baby. You say Contrarian, and I say Imbecilic!
Yeah I guess that’s why I’m his favorite. Ha Ha.
“Yeah I guess that’s why I’m his favorite. Ha Ha.”
Well, you are rapidly losing points!
Amazing that two armchair managers think they make better managing decisions than one of the almost-universally acknowledged best managers in all of baseball.
Oh come on, that’s part of the fun in sports is armchairs. I love Scioscia also, I just think he gets a little funky in the playoffs, but hey you’re right they won.
I’ll tell you a little secret I’m not always in the bag for Obama either. I actually like to think for myself and if he supports the “Trigger” a little shine will go off the luster for me.
SBJ just announced that he is no longer going to be an Arm Chair Commander In Chief, and an Arm Chair Political Pundit. He admits that he does not have the experience and acclaim of those he has been criticizing.
Insimca,
Apparently SBJ, believes that The Doctrine Of Infallibility applies not just to The Pope, but also to Mike Sciosa.
“SBJ just announced that he is no longer going to be an Arm Chair Commander In Chief, and an Arm Chair Political Pundit. He admits that he does not have the experience and acclaim of those he has been criticizing.”
That’s it, Liam! That’s precisely what I wrote.
Brilliant!
@lmsinca: I agree, I gave two points back to you.
Yes; it is what you wrote. The same standard applies to you, as you are applying to Insimca and me.
a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of a small mind
or something like that
it’s fun to mess with you, liam. i can’t believe that lmsinca would associate with a dreaded chisox fan…i’ll never forgive that cheater pierzynski.
A J played to win. It is up to the Umps to make the calls. There was no cheating involved.
There have been many calls in baseball where a runner is clearly tagged out, but the ump missed the call. The runner is under no obligation to call himself out.
There is a Chicago folk ballad named: The South Side Irish. One part of it says:
Our two favorite baseball teams are,
The Go Go White Sox, and who ever plays The Cubs.
Liam:
“The Go Go White Sox, and who ever plays The Cubs.”
No wonder you’re so angry and bitter.
Two perennial losers.
White Sox. World Series Champions 2005
Bilgey just keeps on reaffirming what an Uber-Moron he is.
White Sox. Division Winners. 2008
Bilgey, The Uber-Moron, should always be supervised by an Adult.
My favorite baseball story is how Republican George “The Fraud” Bush used public money to make his first fortune by getting the public to buy him a baseball stadium.
Republicans are natural born looters and moochers, always looking for the angle to get someone else to carry the burden for what that Republican can then steal.
Classic Right Wingers: First In Line For a Government Handout.
Republican George Bush made a fortune as a pig at the public trough, that’s why his “base” the coporatists running the Republican Party backed him so firmly.
As soon as Republican Bush got into office he started giving tax payer dollars publicly owned resources to his crony friends.
And he was very close to Ken Lay, The Enron guy. Bush called him “Kenny baby”.
corrected:
As soon as Republican Bush got into office he started giving tax payer dollars AND publicly owned resources to his crony friends.
Anyone have a good source for the claim that Republican Bush used BIG GOVERNMENT to steal people’s land in Texas to build the Stadium (paid for with taxpayer money) that made Republican Bush his first fortune?
Right Wingers First Rule: Rule’s Are For Other People.

“Old White Guy Party”. Jeb, go to the bathroom, take off all of your clothes and then look at yourself in the mirror. What do you see? A Black female teenager?
How about an old white guy who married una chicana, who even went ahead and changed his religion so that he could marry her in her church?
Jeb & Columba Bush
Interesting that Jeb highlights education and technology in the classroom. I suspect that he is previewing a campaign that will blame Obama and the Dems for our sorry educational system – smart move, but good luck with that.
All the Dems. will have to do is point out his record in Florida, which (unless I’m grossly mistaken) isn’t especially different than his brother’s record in Texas and Washington.
Republicans and education?
Right wingers are still fighting teaching evolution in schools.
Republicans have been trying to dismantle the Department of Education for years.
And Republicans have been ******** over teachers and students for decades by shortchanging both pay for teachers and decent facilities for children.
To recap: Republicans hate science, dismantle national educational standards, and apparently hate teachers AND children.
But hey, maybe the Republicans can con enough Americans to believe them.
And by the way, isn’t it interesting that the Republican Con Artists are especially successful perpetrating their frauds on right wingers who are still fighting evolution from being taught in schools?
“Bush added that his party needs to modernize and embrace 21st ideals and technology.”
Technology, sure. Ideals, no way. Not if those ideals mean you become Democratic Party Lite. What the hell is the purpose of having two parties then? Just so you can have a little Red vs. Blue football game every two years or so to see which group gets to reap the benefits of elected office?
Personally, I’d rather see the Republican Party disappear than compromise its core principles to match whatever is Hip ‘n’ Trendy at the moment. If the American people are so hellbent on continuing society’s slide into moral relevance and the forced mediocrity of Socialism that they’ll lap up the snake oil of the Left, then I say they get the government they deserve.
Every great civilisation falls sooner or later, usually when the population attaches more importance to venal self-interest than what is good for that country. The same “self-interest” in which the Left constantly tells us we should be voting.
