Is Sarah Palin Snubbing GOP’s New Relaunch Effort?
The GOP has launched a major new effort to remake the party and cast it as forward-looking and constructive, but one person may not be all that interested in participating: Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.
Sources in the office of GOP Rep Eric Cantor, who’s leading the new effort, tell me that Palin and her staff still have yet to respond to their invitation that she join their effort, which is called the National Council for a New America.
No less a GOP luminary than John McCain confirmed last week that the group had reached out to Palin. The new GOP effort was launched on Thursday, and had its first big event on Saturday. That means Palin has had four days to respond to the group’s entreaties.
A spokesperson for Palin hasn’t responded to emails I sent last Thursday and today asking if she’d be joining. There are no signs she has responded to Ben Smith, who asked the same.
Maybe Palin prefers the old GOP?
Update: A spokesperson for Cantor confirms that Palin will join the effort, after all.

Hell what has the new group changed on from the old GOP? Absolutely nothing, thats what.
I’m guessing it’s wolf hunting season in AK and she’s just busy with that. . .
Why on earth would she WANT to participate?
What a Maverick!
This group is downplaying the social issues, which are of ultimate importance for Palin’s core supporters. I doubt she feels she’s got anything to gain by joining the NCNA, and in fact might run the risk of alienating a lot of her supporters.
I assume that they’re also reaching out to Joe the Plumber?
Or are they snubbing her? I can’t believe she’d opt out of given the possibility of publicity. My guess: They can’t trust her to speak intelligibly. Except for a few stock phrases (like “progressing” the repub party – she’s always “progressing” something) whatever she says is likely to do more harm than good.
Exactly, Dori. There is nothing in it for her. Why associate herself with the others in the group? They represent what’s wrong with the GOP, and why I’m no longer a member. She would lose me as a supporter if she joined the group.
Well, also, in this great country of ours, being a maverick means getting millions of mavericks to be blessed in voting with you also, unless you’re palling around with terrorists.
Nothing new at all. Unless you consider calling themselves “mainstream” to be new.
Palin will shun the spotlight than share it, especially with people who (not without reason) see her as an embarrassment. They’re of no use to her, nor she to them. I’m sure she’ll run in ‘12 — but will it be as a Republican?
I assume that they’re also reaching out to Joe the Plumber?
And I think the group also includes the “Get a Brain, Morans!” dude as well.
Have I got this right? Palin is unbelievably stupid yet she is incredibly capable of calculating to a fine point what is to her advantage? So, apparently people incapable of recognizing an obvious contradiction are what? Smarter than Steve Hawking?
You guys had to buy computers to brag about how smart you are because live people will no longer listen?
Karen, I was interested in your response. Since you’re identifying yourself as a Palin supporter, what do you see as being “wrong with the GOP”? Since I identify as a liberal, I see the focus on social issues as being much of what has driven most moderate Republicans and independents away.
.
I don’t see this group being able to change many people’s minds about the GOP, frankly. While some of the group may be insufficiently conservative to many conservatives (such as John McCain to you, I would imagine), most of the others named are considered by most Americans to be well on the right wing (such as Jindal and Cantor).
Could be that the GOP is starting to put the screws to her to get her to shut up. On the other hand, Palin may be threatening to run as a third party candidate in 2012. If so, don’t look for an announcement until *after* she says she’s bowing out of the 2010 AK election.
Wonder how *that* scenario might work itself out, behind the scenes.
“Maybe Palin prefers the old GOP?”
Or maybe she wants to consider carefully whether she should reassociate herself with the same John McCain who threw her under the bus.
And who could blame her for that?
BTW, Mark Sanford hasn’t joined NCNA either. Why were you only curious about Palin not signing on, ignoring Sanford?
Just askin’…

I thought she was irrevelant. Why would they want her?

I’m assuming they want the donations and the votes of the people who think she’s keen. Her herself? Not so much.
I don’t think it’s really fair to call McCain a Republican, since Democrats pulled a brilliant fast one by getting him nominated in open primaries. So many Republicans would be thrilled if he would join Arlen Specter and just take off. Maybe take Olympia Snowe as well. Return America to a two party system again.
I’m sure she’s already shopping her new reality show – ‘The Candidate’. Look for it on Fox.
Democrats pulled a brilliant fast one? I wish they were that smart. I think McCain had a chance right up until the Palin nomination.
I’m not sure I like the idea of the Republicans dumping all their moderates though. We’d have two parties, but it would be one big inclusive party and one little fringe minority party. Not much of a check on Democratic Party power if the opposition keeps shrinking their party.
Want to know how I know the Republican party isn’t just screwed–its over! Sara Palin is still a likely front runner in 2012; Steele is not only disgracing the GOP, but his mother too; McCain’s daughter gets more coverage than anyone else; and FOXNEWS has gone borderline TREASONOUS! Have they considered the fact that if this economy improves in the next 3 years, Obama will be reelected and everyone will be akwardly staring at the big fat elephant in the room, waiting for him to leave.
This new groups first “big event” attracted 50-100 people to a pizza joint, probably most of them attracted there by the chance to eat free pizza. If Palin was involved in this effort they would have to find a venue that could handle the thousands of people who would show up. They need her more than she needs them, they know, and she knows it. I’d like to see Palin raise millions of dollars via SarahPAC, and help finance primary challenges to some of these beltway bandits who think that they way to go is to become democrate lite.
Please tell me how the GOP can, with a straight face, call it “The New GOP” while they still have recycled losers like McCain & Romney at the helm. These guys evern make me embarrassed to call myself “a former Republican”.
Can you just imagine that little tete-a-tete invitation?
What to where?….Where does the average guy go
How many days from Spa and haircut should I be<and do we really have to leave the Beltway?
Sarah knows the way to win in 2012 isn’t to become more moderate. She will usher in a new age of true conservative family values. After years of living under a socialist muslim Kenyan, people will be crying out for real change.
She didn’t go? Maybe she’s pregnant again.
You fools. Your too late. She signed on today. ha-ha-ha
Palin represents the wing of the GOP who believes they lost because they did not veer hard enough to the right. She is Limbaugh’s choice and he has declared his support and says that the mainstream GOP is afraid of her.
If she is actually part of this process expect to see the GOP realign to their base and alienate the moderates even more.
Palin/Limbaugh 2012
Palin/Limbaugh 2012
Is that a joke or are you that out of touch with reality that you actually believe a Ignorant Hillbilly & a Fat Junkie Racist stand a chance at winning the 2012 election. If that’s the best you got you should just give up.
That should read “Palin/Wurzelbacher 2012!”.
SARAH PALIN-TONYA HARDING 2012!!!!
