Fresh GOP Infighting: First Shots Fired In 2012 Primary?

Uh oh — looks like the 2012 GOP primary, or at least a preview of it, is getting underway.

In a fresh round of GOP infighting over the soul of the battered party, Mike Huckabee just took a shot at a host of potential primary rivals, disparaging Eric Cantor’s new group to revive the GOP, the National Council for a New America, and the high-profile Republicans that make up the group’s “panel of experts.”

The experts Huckabee was referring to include Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin, and Bobby Jindal, all of whom are being talked about for 2012.

Huckabee’s broadside came in a statement attacking Cantor’s group, which Cantor has said was formed partly to “listen” to the American people.

“It is a sad day when our party comes to the point where we think it is necessary to form a `listening group’ to find out what Americans think we should be fighting for,” Huckabee said. “Our problem is not lack of `experts,’ but too many of them and not enough attention to the hard working people in our communities that aren’t connected to the Beltway, but to the heartland.”

In a sign that social conservatives aren’t in the mood to give Cantor’s group room to rebrand the party, Huckabee also took a shot at the group’s lack of immediate emphasis on social issues, saying that the group has dismissed “values voters” and urging an emphasis on “traditional marriage” and the GOP’s role as “a party that values life.”

Cantor spokesperson Brad Dayspring extended a conciliatory hand towards Huckabee.

“Eric reached out to Governor Huckabee, appreciates his efforts as a leader in our nation and he looks forward to remaining in close communication with all leaders,” Dayspring told me, adding that social issues would be a focus of Cantor’s group: “All issues, all topics, and all ideas will be included in the dialogue that the National Council for a New America will have.”

    Greg
    .
How is Huckabee’s statement not a contradiction? At first he says
    .
“It is a sad day when our party comes to the point where we think it is necessary to form a `listening group’ to find out what Americans think we should be fighting for,”
    .
Now that, to me, seems like Huckabee is saying that the GOP doesn’t need to be out listening to people to find out what they should be fighting for. But then he comes back with.
    .
not enough attention to the hard working people in our communities that aren’t connected to the Beltway, but to the heartland.”
    .
So if they shouldn’t belistening to these “hard working people” what should they be doing? Giving them back rubs?
    .
Mike Huckabee is full of fail just like the rest of the GOP.

Check out John Ensign’s spox already employing Luntz’s strategy on healthcare.

Ensign spokesman Tory Mazzola told us, “Sen. Ensign, like Frank Luntz, is bipartisan. No party has a lock on good ideas, which is why Sen. Ensign is looking at many different solutions. Luntz has valuable information to offer Republicans as we put together health care reform that encourages wellness, ensures access and improves quality of care. It’s not about what Luntz says; it’s about what senators hear. We’re bringing in a wordsmith to help contrast our health reform plan with the government takeover pushed by the Democrats. All the Democrats’ rationed-care plan needs is a ‘Line forms here’ sign.”

What’s great about this upcoming Presidential election is it’s the Democrats this time that get to sit back and enjoy the infighting during the primary much like the Republicans sat back and threw gasoline in the fire with the Democrats in the form of PUMA’s and the other fabricated cat fights the MSM wanted to highlight. CNN got to the point where I couldn’t turn to that station because they spoke 24/7 of the lack of party unity all the way up until Hillary made her speech. Then the story changed quickly. Of course, shortly after Moosolini and the freak show that ensued became the talk of the town.
    .
What the Republican primary will give the Democrats is some ammunition in the form of stinging statements they hurl at each other. The Republicans will do all the hard work of focus group testing and shaping the statements for Democrats. Of course, Republicans react differently to different types of red meat than Democrats so all the statements couldn’t just be echoed. For instance, there will be infighting on who is more pro life and similar social issues that Democrats don’t quibble over.

The reason Dems don’t ever “hurl ammo” at each other is because what do they really oppose each other on anyway? Who’s a bigger sissy? Well, I was truly shocked to find out that John Edwards actually likes girls but that’s a whole ‘nother story.

If you think CNN has any right-wing bias that tells me where you are on the Mao scale.

Oh here we go again. Because their product is so ******, they need to hire “wordsmiths” to test which labels for their ****** products will sound the best and actually hide the real, ****** product. This must be what the marketing class at Liberty U is like.

“Values voters”? Is that the new term for people that support torture? I can’t for the life of me find that in the New Testament.

  9. DFCSTech | May 8th, 2009 at 12:40 am

So, if you had someone in captivity who knew that your wife was about to be raped and murdered, but was unwilling to disclose this information, after all of the nice ways were tried, you wouldn’t be willing to try torturing them to get them to talk? I say that you would be irresponsible if you didn’t increasingly discomfort them to make them talk, even if that turned into some form of torture on the piece of garbage criminal. If it worked, do you think your wife would say, “I wish you didn’t do that for me.”? Our Clandestine Operatives water-boarded a guy who then told details about a major terrorist attack that was being planned, in which, an airplane full of innocent people would be flown into a Los Angeles building full of innocent people. But you don’t think it was proper for us to do that and you think that us, “Values Voters”, are contradicting ourselves? On the contrary, we are CONSISTENT in being adamant about protecting INNOCENT lives. Do you think that Jesus would just stand by if a road-side robber jumped out of the bushes and attacked his mother? Of course he wouldn’t. He would use as much force as necessary to safely subdue the attacker, even if that meant killing them. Self-defense and defense of one’s family is completely consistent with the New Testament and so is the government’s responsibility to provide a strong national defense for it’s citizens. In light of this, I hope that you’ll make another comment on here stating that you now understand and have changed your mind. It’s very important that the people of the United States understand this. It’s crucial to our nation’s future.

DFCSTech, the waterboarding of KSM did not prevent any attack on Los Angeles, but way to buy into propaganda. The attack was thwarted in 2002. KSM was captured in 2003. Unless the military has a secret time machine at Area 51 we don’t know about, waterboarding KSM accomplished nothing.

  11. mcmgrant | May 8th, 2009 at 04:13 pm

The party who claim to be pro-life is also the party of pro-torture. We can also call them the “waterboarders.”

  12. Mike | May 8th, 2009 at 05:23 pm

“DFCSTech, the waterboarding of KSM did not prevent any attack on Los Angeles”

Yes, because the “terrorism is a nuisance” crowd knows ALL the answers by god! Why those innocent 911 hijackers, they were just eager protesters who happened to be clausterphobic right?

“The party who claim to be pro-life is also the party of pro-torture. We can also call them the “waterboarders.””

We can call you “the pantywaist party”, how’s that?

how is it that repubs hold marriage in such high esteem, but are willing to look the other way when it is a repub who solicits prostitutes and commits adultery? i.e vitter from louisiana. shouldn’t he be censored and removed from office? the ex dem governor of new york was relieved of his position. such hipocracy.

  14. yvonneprivera | May 9th, 2009 at 03:29 am

i think cantor would be great for us repubs. he’s easy on the eye and is not as mean-spirited as he has to pretend to be. he’s still a randy young thing; taking time off from his busy schedule to go to a brittany spears concert. he just needs to be himself and not back down or bow down to anybody. i support him.

  15. MGB | May 9th, 2009 at 07:31 pm

Because Vitter’s a squishy mod (or a “conservative liberal” as McCain would say) from a nanny state, that’s why the current country clubbers that run the GOP as well as the Dems have no problem. Edwards was pure payback, check the Clintonistas that run the Enquirer. How else was this story sat on for a year?

Cantor? Wuss, this ASIDE from having anything to do with Britney. How can you let that Mel Kiper-lookalike fraud Shmoe Scarborough whip your ***? He’ll be a sacrificial lamb that gives us Carter’s third term.
