Dem Strategists: Sarah Palin Is The New Rush Limbaugh
Is the Rush Limbaugh strategy giving way to the Sarah Palin strategy?
Multiple Democratic strategists say the party plans to increasingly elevate Palin in the same manner it has employed Rush for weeks, using her high-visibility, her social conservatism, and memories of her harsh attacks on Obama during the campaign to tar the GOP as partisan, obstructionist, and backward-looking.
James Carville, a key architect of the Limbaugh strategy, says Dems will be seeking to elevate Palin more and more, because she’s “an identifiable person who has a hook,” unlike GOP leaders like Eric Cantor and Mitch McConnell.
“Her name conjures up all kinds of reactions in people’s minds,” Carville told me, adding that her association with the campaign will be used to portray the GOP as hidebound and to alienate moderates. “She’s an uncomfortable figure for a lot of Republicans,” Carville says. “They want to move beyond her. We like her.”
“Luckily, she seems to present us with an opportunity every few days,” added a senior Dem strategist. “You could say it’s a turkey shoot.”
The increasing use of Palin is already on display. The DCCC blasted out a fundraising email the other day hammering her and “no, baby, no” Republicans who are “standing in President Obama’s way,” associating the current GOP with the partisan heat of 2008. Dems also featured an image of Palin in a new, last minute mailer that just went out hitting the GOP candidate in the white-hot New York House special election as a patsy of Rush — and Palin.
Such efforts are aimed at the Dem base. But House Dem strategists hope she can be used to damage the GOP’s image with swing constituencies in the 2010 elections. “When she was campaigning, she rubbed suburban and independent women the wrong way,” one House Dem strategist says. “They are generally very moderate, and she’s a reminder of the extremism of the party and other aspects of it they dislike.”

It wouldn’t hurt the strategy at all to work Michelle Bachmann into that mix.
This one is a bit trickier and honestly I think the strategist should pull back. Attacking a woman is always going to be problematic, in this case even more so because a few people thought she was mistreated by the media during the campaign. Plus she has no problem with bringing her religion into it and making it seem like thats why she is getting attacked. I don’t think this is a good move at all. You don’t have to elevate Sarah Palin to damage the GOP. She does a good job of that all on her own. Why risk blowback?

I just think when it comes to a woman none of that really matters too much. The risks outweigh the rewards with this one. I mean Sarah Palin is already look at as a goofball as it is, there really isn’t any need to make her look any worse. And I don’t think any Republicans would hesitate to throw Palin under the bus if it came down to it so I don’t think you can tie her to the rest of the party. About the only thing that could help her right now is an over reach by the Dems and that kinda sounds like what some of our strategists are about to do.
Car-vile’s strategy backfired when it came to Limbaugh, his ratings shot way up. I expect this latest attempt will also backfire. As of late January Palin’s nationwide favorable rating was at 52 perecent according to Rasmussen, watch it move up to about 55 or 56 percent in the next few weeks.

What in America these days could be more out of step than a traditional mom that actually takes her religion seriously, and just happened upon national prominence? That’s goofy.
What’s normal and cool is a crypto Marxist that sits in the pew for twenty years ,paying no attention to what is being said, while plotting the end of the nation that has considered types like Palin perfectly normal for centuries.
Well, Thank God, that Sarah has a sharp defender in the Republican National Committee Chairman, Michael “The Buffoon” Steele. And Sarah is such a strategeric thinker, that last week her actions caused both the Speaker of the House and the President of the Senate in Alaska to all but call their governor a “pants on fire” liar. “Stevens[Senate President] said Palin’s account of events “is absolutely false.”” Both these guys are Republicans!
I also go to lots of other political blogs. The so-called “conservatives”, or certainly at least an awful lot of those who identify with this ideological perspective, love Sarah. They are very defensive and very angry. Thank God their leaders are so inept!
By the way, I include Joe “The Idiot” The Plumber in their “leadership” circle.
Both Michael and Sarah have talked about how “God might open the door” to them to be President. What a hoot! How very presumptuous and frightening! Their supporters are whipped into an angry frenzy by the Limbaughs and Hannitys. And they have guns!
So let me say it again: Thank God the national Republican leadership–that is making exception for moderates like Christ and Schwartzenegger and even moderate conservatives like Pawlenty and Huntsman–appears to be completely inept. They are failing to even in the role of worthy opposition, except in their Southern bulwarks. In my book, they are a bunch of buffoons. Thank God! They are on the way out!

I think your comment reagrding the what the Republican Party is (backward looking, obstructionist, etc.) is very partisan and untrue. I thought liberals and progressives were suppose to be more inclusive at least that what Obama spoke about in his campaign!).

I’ve never seen a losing VP candidate continuously being smeared and degraded as Palin has. Dems are scared s–tless of her.
The Democrats are playing with fire if they go after Palin again. With the exception of the kool aid drinkers, everyone pretty much agrees the press has been despicable towards her. Geraldo had a Democrat on last night who said she disagrees with Palin on issues but thinks the smear tactics are over the line. The reason the leaders of the Alaska House and Senate hate Palin is because she’s publicly humiliated them by exposing their ties to other corrupt Republicans. Remember that Palin got her major start in Alaska by blowing the whistle on the state party chair, which got him fined and forced him to resign from office.
The more the Obama Party nominates tax cheats, the more they play into Palin’s hands. Carville and his ilk are desperately swinging, hoping they can keep people from noticing how incompetent and foolish their Obamamessiah is by throwing mud. Didn’t work with Limbaugh, won’t work with Palin.

All liberals were toasting Scott McClellan when he stuck a knife in W’s back and claimed he was put off by the Bush WH’s “permanent campaign” as conducted by Karl Rove. Now, Obama’s slid David Axelrod into the old Rove role, and Obama hasn’t stopped campaigning even after inauguration! Now, they’ve formulated an “enemy of the week” strategy to distract from their inability to fix the financial crisis with their ethically-challenged Ivy League All-Star lineup.
Most of you Palin-haters are too thick to know you’re being manipulated with half-truths, whole lies, and phony controversies created for the express purpose of portraying her negatively, like when Barbara Walters criticized her for being offended by BHO’s Special Olympics gaffe.
Obama is going to have to stay on his toes. Look at what the GOP did to Clinton. They spent millions looking into every possible conspiracy theory and rumor… making videos about Clinton being a drug trafficker and trying to accuse Hillary of killing Vince Foster.
Yeah, Obama is going to have to spend a great deal of time on “campaigning” just to defend himself and his family (and the good of the country) from the smear machine.
Palin? She’s the next target? Why? She’s helpless.
Maybe the political guru’s should spend time getting the country back on track instead of swinging at shadows.

Remember, this isn’t the same little Sarah being held up by McCain handlers. And we know the Limbaugh strategy worked out oh so well.
As a conservative, I hope the Democrats do this. This would be a true gift to Sarah Palin. It gives her a platform to begin to build a national platform and keeps her in the news. She will be in the news based on real issues rather than the usual gossip. This is a terrible idea for the Obama people; it only serves to make the administration childish and afraid of Gov. Palin.
I doubt the Democrats will play with fire like this, but sure hope they do. It backfired with Rush, and this could have severe consequences for the Obama people.
I’d also like to see even one of you clowns tell me a position she has on an issue that makes her a “wingnut” or “extremist” or whatever else you call her. I don’t see you saying things about Republicans with similar views. I think you pick on her because you are afraid.

The anti-Rush campaign backfired, driving Rush’s ratings through the roof while recent polls show the American people prefer Republicans over Democrats on a generic ballot for the first time in three years.
And with the kind of hateful bile Democrats regularly spew in their fundraising letters, is it any wonder Republicans raised so much more money than them last quarter.
Or perhaps its just Obama, America’s most incompetent president EVER, and the Nancy Pelosi Democrats destroying the country and people’s life savings while trying to cram socialism down Americans throats.
