No Apology To Rush Limbaugh From RNC Chair Michael Steele

It doesn’t look like RNC chair Michael Steele is going to apologize to Rush Limbaugh, who unleashed an on-air tirade against Steele this afternoon for the RNC chair’s earlier description of Rush’s show as “ugly” and “incendiary.”

I just checked in with RNC spokesperson Alex Conant, and he said that all the RNC would be doing in response to Rush was referring back to an earlier statement that the RNC sent out before Rush’s rant today. The statement didn’t say anything about the battle between the two men, instead trying to change the subject to Democratic criticism of Rush.

So that means no apology to Rush from Steele or the RNC — for now, anyway.

The problem for Steele, of course, is that by hitting Rush — and provoking a response from the talk show host — he’s left himself in the unenviable position of having to answer Rush’s implicit demand that he say whether he’s With Rush Or Against Him when it comes to Rush’s desire for Obama to fail. It’s not a good position to be in: Either Steele distances himself from Rush and angers the base, or he throws in his lot with the GOP’s pro-failure brigade and makes it easier for Dems to paint the GOP as petulant, partisan obstructionists.

Amusingly, either choice would help Rush: The first gives him a potent rallying point, and the second demonstrates his power over the party. What’s more, all this underscores again the astonishing degree to which the interests of Rush and Democrats are aligned here, since both Rush and Democrats want Steele, and every other Republican, to publicly make exactly the same choice.

Update: That was quick. Steele apologizes to Rush.

This is what complete disarray looks like. Rahm and Obama picked this fight with Limbaugh from the get go, and they’re looking pretty Shermanesque/Grantesque at this point.

Someone pass the popcorn! These two represent the pinnacle of the Republican Party? Steele is totally out of his element. And Rush is a blowhard that doesn’t know when to stop ranting. I can imagine 90% of those that claim to be Conservatives groaning at this point in time and wanting to distance themselves from both of these idiots. It’s not a good time to be a Conservative. The more these two talk the more people that are changing their status to Independents/Undeclared or Libertarians. The GOP is going through a time where more and more citizens are leaving the party until only the nutcases and fanatics will be left.

The “real” Conservatives have left the party!

    Nuff Said!

Sigh. I had been thoroughly enjoying this little dustup, but now that you’ve pointed out I’m siding with Limbaugh, I feel the need to shower. In bleach.

So, do I have this straight?: LimpBaugh the Entertainer wants to lock down his position as unchallenged, flame-throwing, omnipotent ruler of the GOP, while simultaneously denying Democratic charges that he now is, in fact and by default, the titular head of the GOP? Cripes, talk about a flip-flopper. Pick a lane, Chubby.

Maybe now George Lakoff will take back his statement that Obama made a mistake by mentioning Limbaugh. It’s looking like a brilliant move to me.

“Amusingly, either choice would help Rush: The first gives him a potent rallying point, and the second demonstrates his power over the party.”

I don’t see the logic. If you mean “helps Rush” as in making him more popular, more wealthy or more powerful… well, I don’t see how he’s anything but as high as he’ll get. He only continues to alienate more people.

And certainly, if you think that “helps Rush” means furthering his ideas, that’s ****. Rush’s ideas are going nowhere fast and his antics just make it clear that he has no ideas and only party allegiance.

None of this “helps Rush.” He can’t be helped. His ditto-heads will never go away until they die, to be sure, but he’s not doing ANYTHING that makes anyone else listen to him. I don’t know how helpful it is to grip tighter the people you never have to worry about losing. That’d be like Democrats making a hard line stance on legalizing marijuana to please the hippies. It’s not like they need to worry about them voting “R!”

    Pick a lane, Chubby.

Limbaugh has gained back all that weight he lost, and then some. He’s wide enough to take up at least two lanes!

Congratulations on waking from your eight-year coma.

Let’s settle this once and for all, if you support Rush and his ideas please start a line near Dallas, TX; if you support the American president and democracy there’s no need to start a line, you belong here. For those standing in line somewhere near Dallas, please visit George W. before departing America via the Mexican border(remember treason is for sissys).
