GOP House Candidate James Tedisco To National GOP: Go Away
The House race in New York’s 20th district between Republican James Tedisco and Dem Scott Murphy is emerging as a major, nationally-watched race, a big test for RNC chair Michael Steele and a chance for the GOP to give itself a shot of much-needed adrenaline.
But today brings some bad news for the national GOP. With Murphy gaining on Tedisco in the polls, the Republican is taking charge of his campaign, in effect telling the national party and the NRCC to take its negative ads and go away.
Tedisco made the announcement in an interview with his local paper, the Post Star:
Tedisco said Thursday he is taking over control of the content of his advertising to distinguish “the real Jim Tedisco” from the partisan negativity his own national party has displayed in the campaign so far.
“I’m taking over and we’re going to run a campaign that relates to the people of the 20th Congressional District,” said Tedisco, the state Assembly minority leader from Glenville….
Tedisco said he’s confident he will win if he abandons an advertising strategy, crafted by the National Republican Congressional Committee, that has focused on attacking Murphy.
“We’re going to run a 20th district campaign and talk about the positive issues, and leave the rest of the distortions to the other side,” he said.
The kicker: According to the Post Star, the ads attacking Murphy appear to have backfired, with a recent poll finding that commercials for Tedisco made 12% more likely to vote for him — and 28% less likely.

Yes, and we got campaign literature the other day for someone who is running for the Texas lege and there was no sign of what party he was running from anywhere at all. I looked and looked and that means one thing: he’s a Republican.
They’re trying to hide it, ignore it, or repudiate it unless they are one of the old line True Believers. I don’t get why they don’t just quit the party.
“I don’t get why they don’t just quit the party.”
For the same reason, we keep pulling money out of our paychecks for our 401K. Things have gotta turn around sooner or later. What’s the alternative?
What’s the alternative?
That’s up to them. I ain’t solving the GOP’s problems for them.
By the way, I do know how they can start to rebuild for real and I think it’s going on already.
They have to start locally. That’s how they built it the last time. They began with school boards all over the country, so watch them locally, dear peeps.
The first step is they have to acknowledge that they have a problem. They still haven’t done that. Or rather to be more precise they haven’t admitted the breadth of their problem. They just think they have lost because they weren’t conservative enough. The truth is they lost because they were hypocrites true but maybe moreso its because they are so tied to conservative rhetoric and in some instances ideology that they refuse to think out of the box. In fact the box is of their own making and they still don’t see that it is tying them down. When before you even look at a problem you decide that there is only one way to fix it then there are bound to be times when you not only don’t fix it but in fact make it worse. Until they understand that they have to give themselves some leeway on the issues they will continue to lose. At this point they don’t have to just pray for the Democrats to fail, they have to pray for the Democrats to fail and look like criminals in doing so.
The first step is they have to acknowledge that they have a problem. They still haven’t done that.
Totally agree. Totally –
You just have to watch for the little blonde Baptist ladies who look like butter wouldn’t melt in their mouths – like Fluffy Hutchison. If you don’t watch out, you have school boards infested with those particular people – they’re like Tribbles.
Let me get this straight: You have a candidate with much higher name recognition than his opponent, and the strategy from the geniuses at the RNC is to run a lot of attack ads? I’m sure they thought they were “defining him before he can define himself,” but a much more basic principle (especially if the demographics favor you) is that opponent is an unknown, don’t help him change that by paying to put his name out there.
What idiots. If he wins, Murphy should send them a thank-you note.
Will this ****** say how he would vote on the Stim Bill, and the Omnibus??
******. I’m sick of these ******* cowardly *****.
“I don’t get why they don’t just quit the party.” Because they are wolves presenting themselves in sheep’s clothing. They can’t change, they can only hide what they are.
” They can’t change, they can only hide what they are”
Well said.
I can tell you where the GOP needs to start and immediately. They need to get rid of Michael Steele as RNC chair. I really, really, really don’t understand how he got there. That is a really bad sign to me. The rest of the republican party must either be asleep or our party has really disintegrated. Very sad.
