“The Cabinet”

Update: NBC is reporting that Tom Daschle has pulled out of consideration. That makes this look even sillier.

***************************

A bunch of people wrote yesterday about Vanity Fair’s snappy new photo spread of Obama’s stylish-looking West Wing crew. But I wanted to draw your attention to something in the picture below (click to enlarge)…

The caption has the somewhat presumptuous title “The Cabinet,” with Tom Daschle cutting a snazzy pose on the left.

But now that Daschle’s confirmation is less than certain, doesn’t it seem in retrospect like this was jumping the gun a bit, both on the part of the mag and on the part of whoever on the Obama team approved it? It might have been a good idea to get Daschle squared away first. Also, Hilda Solis hasn’t been confirmed, either, though no one expects it not to happen.

Yes, they’re described as “designates” here, but come on.

Daschle has withdrawn his nomination (about five minutes after this post).

So now my question is, ten minutes ago, I would have guessed Daschle had a much better chance of confirmation than Solis. Are you holding back, Greg, or don’t you think Solis’ pro-union stance is an obstacle?

Danp, I really haven’t been able to get to the bottom of that. I’m told that Obama’s people aren’t worried about it.

I still think that they’re some pretty nice glamour shots. It’s not often that political wonks (Stephen Chu!) get the Annie Liebovitz treatment.

Funny. None of it matters though… Charlie Manson, Ted Bundy and Joseph Stalin could have been in this picture and the Obama masses would ignore the writing on the wall… I wonder if any who voted for Obama are embarrassed and ashamed yet…. in WEEK TWO!

Maybe it should be recaptioned, “The Lineup”

Hope and change, eh? Looks like a line-up of tired old white-bread Washington insiders to me. Same old same old. Feh.

In my family, we always make the in-laws stand at the edges, so that in the case of a divorce, they can be cropped with a pair of scissors. Note where Daschle is.

    Wooo! Change!

Geithner looks just like the clueless dolt he is. You know why this lying, tax-cheat scum got the Treasury job? Because Obama’s mother worked for his father, Peter Geithner, in Indondesia in the 60’s. I guess that’s enough, eh? Is there ANYBODY in this damn government this isn’t somebody’s relative, contributor or buddy? Sheesh…

Don Surber, you are my hero.

This is what a bunch of 60’s hippies (of offspring) look like when they dress up in suits and play adult. Also, note Solis’ body language – defensive and uptight as if…. as if… she is hiding something? Can’t wait to see the next installment of “The Daily Withdrawal”

Look at that photo. Wow. So we’ve reached the point in American culture where we’re actually romanticizing politicians and bureaucrats — that’s really disturbing, and pretty depressing too.

Janet Napolitano should resign next. The condition she left Arizona is just as criminal as what Daschle did.

I didn’t know Shinseki had been nominated. Excellent pick. I served under him as assistant adjutant when he was a brigade commander in Germany. The man I knew at the time is one of the most impressive people I’ve ever met: superb leadership, keen and flexible mind, awesome sense of honor.

Not relevant but interesting: his daughter was an intern for Sen Biden at the time.
