Tea Party Day Poll: Majority Says Middle Income People Taxed Fairly

One of the primary things driving today’s “tea parties,” according to their proponents, is worry about the tax burden on middle income folks.

So this number buried in a new poll just out from Gallup today seems noteworthy (click to enlarge):

So 50% continue to say that middle income people are taxed fairly. A minority thinks middle income people are paying too much.

Not only that, but there’s no majority support anywhere in the poll for the idea that anyone — lower, middle, or upper income — is paying an unfair amount in taxes.

Backers of the “tea parties,” to be sure, like to say that the gatherings aren’t about current levels of taxation — just the levels that people may have to pay later, thanks to Obama’s spending policies. But a hypothetical seems like an odd thing to build a whole movement on, and in any case, polls like this one suggest that folks don’t seem especially worried about it.

    Hey Greg I hope you read this…

    Please see if you can get in touch with Warren Ballentine. He is a radio host who sometimes appears on CNN with Don Lemon, and has debated Lou Dobbs and O’Reily on their shows.
    He had this guy on his show that said he is the one who started the whole tea party movement and that he was upset that FOX news has distorted his message and made it into an anti-tax party. He is a Libertarian and he said that these parties were never supposed to be about taxes. In fact, he said that he understands we need to have taxes because that is how we are provided with Firefighters and such. He was also on FOX yesterday about the tea parties and stressed that it’s not about taxes but they ignored him anyway.
    Please see if you can get the audio from Warren and post it. This was a really good interview. I wish I could remember his name. Sorry.
    Maybe you can get in touch with Warren… his website is: Thetruthfighters.com
    Here is the page for his contact info: http://www.thetruthfighters.com/contacts.php

    Not that I know of… I was listening this morning, and Warren was pretty upset after hearing what the man had to say. SGW said it could be the same guy on Rachel’s show lasst night and it could have been…. Warren’s show is still on and I’m hoping he says his name again so I can goggle him. If he does I’ll let you know!

    Greg does realize that the Tea Parties were initially organized to protest the stimulus package doesn’t he?

    Make up your mind. I thought the tea parties were organized because of Santellis rant which was about the housing plan. Then they said it was to protest the bailouts. Then they said it was because they are getting a tax cut errrr because they are worried about rich folks taxes being raised two years from now. Which is it?
    .
    By the way TEA supposedly stands for Taxed Enough Already. I didn’t notice any taxes being raised in the stimulus bill.

    Attention Conservatives who are serious about reducing spending

    Let’s cut the bloated military budget.

    This year’s Pentagon budget runs about 500 billion dollars…that’s 20 times more than the entire military budget of China…a growing rival power with 3 times the population of the US.

    Just the Pentagon’s cost overruns and waste would be enough to finance China’s entire military budget.

    Bush = Dumb
    Obams = Dumber

    Let’s make it clear – I inherited this deficit… so… what I’m going to do now is quadruple it. I mean, it worked so well for the previous administration.

    Holy cow – and you people still have a hard-on for him. Amazing.

    This article was extremely interesting, especially since I was searching for thoughts on this subject last Thursday.
