Solving the health care dilemma in the United States can actually be a "simple fix". Here's how:

Step 1) Keep Health Insurance in the private realm (not the public-funded arena).

Step 2) And instead, use the Federal government's power to regulate that the entities in that private realm related to direct health care services are Non-Profit organizations (insurers, hospitals, clinics, doctors, etc.).

Step 3) Done.

My wife came down with cancer in Oct. 07 and our insurance has paid out close to 2 mil in the last year. We are both 65 now and the Obona Care is scaring us to death I wish more people would read this abomination for them self. My wife is from Canada and if she would have been there she would be dead now, where as she is in remishion now.

The mission of the health insurance companies in the Untied States is to provide health care coverages to all those who do not file claims.
Hence the big push to insure all those young uninsured Americans.
They are generally healthy , file few insurance claims and represent a lucrative source of income.
Compare that group to those over 50. Insurance companies are only too eager to find reasons to deny healthcare benefits to that age group unless they are willing to pay high premiums with big deductibles.

Health insurance companies in America have learned their lesson well. You make a profit by collecting premiums...not by paying benefits.

We have the choice socially or intellectually to respect health care and our medical community as part of our social responsibility, or relate to it as Nixon did and only insure people who can pay lots of money and won't get sick so insurance corporations make huge profits.

That is the question: profit from the sick and dying or just maintaining your health, or make it a quality of life and an ethical argument to raise our level of humanity.

The question of how healthcare gets paid for isn't as important as who determines the costs of healthcare. As it stands now, consumers have ZERO say in that. Insurance companies and providers argue and arm-wrestle about costs, and drug companies try to push an agenda. But we're at the mercy of for-profit businesses. That's a problem.

I'm guessing when people took this poll, they weren't thinking "who do you want deciding how health care gets paid for?" And that leads to the question of why Obama and Republicans are even in the same question with doctors and hospitals.
