Liz Cheney: Obama Wants To Hold Hands With Terrorists
That’s not really an exaggeration! On an appearance on MSNBC, Liz Cheney appeared to say that Obama’s speech in Cairo today showed that he wants to deal with terrorists by “hand-holding.”

“I think that if we lived in a world where terrorism, and the slaughter of innocents, and Iran’s hegemonic hopes for the Middle East could be met, could be defeated, could be dealt with by sort of hand-holding going forward, then we’d be in a much simpler environment. But these are very, very tough issues. And I was troubled by the extent to which I heard moral relativism.”
That’s some highly suggestive language coming from Ms. Cheney, isn’t it?
In reality, in his speech today, Obama strongly denounced 9/11-denial to an Arab audience, said American troops are in Afghanistan out of “necessity,” because terrorists are “determined to kill as many Americans as they possibly can,” and said America’s commitment to destroying terror networks “will not waver.”

I saw her on Mornign Joe and was appalled. She also was snippy about Obama bringing up slavery and apartheid.
Why does the media continue to give her a platform? I have no problem with conservative commentators coming on and disagreeing with Obama’s speech but to give Liz Cheney of all people a platform is troubling and doesn’t speak highly of our media.
I hope Liz just keeps on talking her Dad into an indictment.

I know she’s the former veep’s daughter and was a mid-level official in the Bush administration but why have the networks turned her into some sort of expert analyst. Seriously, what are her qualifications.
O, that’s right – like her dad, she’s certain to make some sort of outrageous statement re: Obama and national security whenever you put her on camera. That’s the only qualification that counts.

L.Cheney/Palin 2012!!! As stated before, I know it is frustrating, but Cheney/L Cheney/Limbaugh/Rove/Gingrich as spokespersons for R’s is VERY good for Dems!!! It is just interesting that you have so many “journalists” on these cable “news” networks and they NEVER ask a tough question of good ol’ Liz…I mean I realize that she has tons of prerequisites for appearing, but good lord, can’t the girl take a tough question or two…where’s Lawrence O’Donnell when you need him….
Also, if you really feel frustrated about seeing her then just do like I do, change the channel…seriously, when she comes on, just change the station…that’s what I did this morning when she appeared on Morning Joe…why do I give a rat’s a** what Liz Cheney has to say about President Obama’s speech? I’m really getting sick of the establishment media repeatedly giving Liz and Dick Cheney a forum to take pot shots at President Obama and to defend Bush era torture. And what’s even worse. they rarely challenge the lies coming out of their mouths. This is just blatant propaganda. Did they pay them to get on these programs over and over and over?

Obama’s speech has been assaulted by radical factions around the world — individuals who are absolutely opposed to any kind of common ground and compromise in the pursuit of peace. I’m baffled by the notion that an American would align herself more closely with Al Qaeda than her own president.

It wasn’t long ago when Americans in the country were considered terrorists!!! By whom? Go figure!!! The problem we have here is that a small handful of rich, conservatives have attempted, unsuccessfully I might add, to completely co-opt and corrupt the Constitution of the United States. But then again, even at the outset they were here stirring up trouble so they could live far beyond their own means, at the expense of indentured servants [a cute euphemism for slaves when applied to white people] and chattel slaves [which applied to everybody else in the world.] We the people of the United States are the descendants of all the people you beat, maimed, murdered, robbed, raped, and worked to death for nothing so you could live a wealthy life. We are changing the reality that allows you to exist the way you do. As we do, you will lose everything you took by main force and conniving thievery. Crystal palaces are much more vulnerable than trailer park homes. Keep watching. If you don’t get with the program God has in the works already you will lose it all. We have been using the stick against Iran for 30 years, and Cuba for 50 years. They have both grown even more antagonistic against America in that time. Certain people want to continue the same approach, while expecting a different outcome. There is a term for that.
Obama is trying something different and it is being well accepted by the world. Certain people are afraid of that because they will be seen as wrong if Obama succeeds. They are more concerned about themselves than the world at large.

At least Mitchell corrected her on a few things but she didn’t know the details off the cuff of her arm regarding exactly what Cheney has said in the past regarding Iraq which she probably should have known.

A QUESTION OF JOURNALISTIC DEONTOLOGY!
The recent appearances of the Cheneys over the media as a credible political opponent on par to the Obama administration’s policies and stances raises an issue of journalistic deontology! This is definitely of artificial making. On the one hand, we’ve got a legitimately elected President of the United States who has undergone the rigorous electoral process having to make his case to the American people and coming out successful in eliciting the policies he intends to carry out during his mandate within the confines of the American political institutional structure and process. On the other hand, we’ve got political personae (the Cheneys) who are effectively being presented by the media as a legitimate opponent on par to the Obama administration whereas they do not bear any electoral mandate whatsoever for the political views they profer and with no consequent responsiblity, stake and risk that will arise from any such mandate while the President is tied to them.
The latest case in point, is Liz Cheney’s appearance on the Scaborough Show with her critical and undermining views of the President presented in effect as critical views to the Obama speech delivered in Egypt under the disguise of expressing her opinions. For comments/expressions of opinion on the President’s policies, her views as well as those of her father have been given such a broad artificial reception by the media that runs very contrary to the expression of opinion as we’ve come to know it. These views are rather given almost the same weight and placed on par as the political stances of a legitimately elected president with a legitimate mandate for the policies he is undertaking while the Cheney’s hold no such legitimate mandate and with no accompanying political accountability whatsoever. The issue here is that such attitude by the media is contrary to what we’ve come to expect from normal implicit democratic rules. If the Cheneys had any pretense for policies they wished to be implemented after the Bush Administration, the solution would have simply been for Dick or Liz to run for president. Since they didn’t, it is artificial for the media to strive to present them as a counterweight on par to the Obama administration’s policies well beyong what will be expected for the opinion of a simple citizen that the Cheneys are now notwithstanding their previous political roles. And by the way, by extension is it acceptable that any citizen, no matter what self-righteous pretense they might have, to be artificially given a similar counterweight role on par with the President on any policy issues of the Obama administration while not holding any legitimate political mandate for which they will be politically accountable for their stances? It can be understandable, that the Cheneys can be of direct concern when it comes to matters of direct relation to political issues having to do with Cheney’s role in the Bush administration. But to raise their views on the policies and stances the administration should take on par with the President undermines appropriate journalistic deontology because as we should all know by now “elections do matter”.
What strikes the mind here is that the Cheneys have perfectly understood this “naïvété” of the media and are using this “media confusion about fairness” to artificially strive to extirpate Mr. Dick Cheney from accusations of introducing torture policies during the Bush Administration among other political accusations. Their strategy is very simple. Legally, Cheney can’t make it (they know that secretly). In all courts of law, so-called EITs are definitely torture practices. Besides, the facts as we know them are overwhelmingly against him and the Bush Administration, and Dick Cheney’s contradictions are extensive. The real strategy of the Cheney’s here is totally otherly: turn it “political”. First, saying torture works and was for the good of the country should elicit the fervour of many Americans. Afterall, all what is needed is that a substantial number of Americans polled buy to this argument, and then the issue’s legal underpinning may be undermined. Secondly, posing artificially as the right wing counterweight to the Obama’s administration policies elicits the impression and fervour in some quarters particularly to the right that he is making the President moderate and thus he is political useful. A look at this second political trick shows how the media has been effectively been manipulated: knowing fairly well that in his administrative role the President will have to take practical and pragmatic postures with respect to the release of photos of abused detainees as well as on other policies, all what Dick simply have to do is to posit that he is against releasing the pictures and pretend to take critical policy issues postures on the right, making him seemingly a moderating influence on the President. Thirdly, the Cheneys simply have to claim that Obama is following the Bush Administration’s policies he criticized pointing to his strategies in Afghanistan, Iraq and Guantanamo. In this case too, the media is manipulated as they ignore the fact that the Obama administration does not have the luxury of starting from scratch as Bush had on all these issues but rather adopts a “course correction strategy” of the situations to bring them as close as possible to what he advocates. The fact is that, the underlying strategy of Dick and her daughter is to make this three steps political trick extirpate Dick from the accusations levied against the former administration. The sad thing is that the media is “naïvely” falling for these political tricks!

AND why doesn’t someone ask either Cheney about Dick’s considerable domestic crimes, such as his putrid “National Energy Policy”, his enabling of Enron, his role in the economic meltdown as Chief Economic Advisor, and his years of profiteering? Sometimes I wonder If Dick Cheney wants to keep the focus on the war and the torture question to direct attention away from just those issues. A serious investigation into that would probably turn up enough evidence to put him away for the rest of his natural life.

The apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Cheney is trying to do what the Cons tried during the campaign and that is trying to paint President Obama as naive with a simplistic view of the world. Of course this couldn’t be farther from the truth as evident by his speech.
What is simplistic is the neocon view that discards diplomacy with the idea that we can simply bomb our way to peace and cooperation, invade a country with the simple idea that we will be greeted as liberators and that we don’t need to have a plan to transition that country from a dictatorship and desolation to a country of their choosing without the simplistic view that we can wave a magic wand and make a country with a culture far different from our own into a democracy.
