GOP Rep Michele Bachmann: Is Obama Plotting To Abandon Dollar As U.S. Currency?
GOP Rep Michele Bachmann, who is quite the colorful character, wants an answer: Is Obama secretly in favor of getting rid of the dollar and replacing it with a multi-national currency?
Bachmann is jumping on a claim yesterday by Tim Geithner, who temporarily seemed to suggest yesterday that he’s open to a Chinese proposal to replace the dollar as the global currency, before walking it back. She blasted out a release demanding that Obama come clean about his intentions and say whether he agrees with Geithner:

The thing is, though, is that Geithner has already clarified that he doesn’t foresee a change in the dollar’s centrality. And Obama himself flatly declared that he’s not open to such a change at his presser the other night.
Undeterred, Bachmann has even “introduced a resolution that would bar the dollar from being replaced by any foreign currency,” as her release puts it.
It appears Bachmann may have thought that Geithner was talking about being open to a change in U.S. currency, rather than the world’s reserve currency, which is what the China proposal was about. And as Matthew Yglesias notes, foreign countries partake in decisions about the world reserve currency.
So is Bachmann proposing legislation that would ban foreign countries from doing this? Can Congress really legislate the behavior of foreign countries?
No, it turns out. I checked in with Bachmann’s spokesperson, Debbee Keller, who reassures that this is only about American currency.
“She’s talking about the United States,” Keller said. “This legislation would ensure that the U.S. dollar remain the currency of the United States.” Of course, no one had been discussing any change in U.S. currency in the first place….

This is getting so old. When will there be a push back from Democrats and progressives about flat out lies from the GOP? I understand ThinkProgress and Media Matters do their job very well when it comes to pointing out blatant falsehoods from the GOP. But when will a Democrat in Congress stand up and call Bachmann on her lies? That’s the only way to bring proper attention. Her questioining of Geithner regarding the Constitutional authority regarding the Fed was disturbing, not only because it revealed her basic ignorance around public policy, but because the crazed vacant look in her eyes suggested someone who should be medicated or put under a doctor’s care.

Looks like Ms.Bachmann had put some effort in her performance knowing she would be on TV : fancy hairdo and make up and new lips. One thing she missed, though, was to prepare coherent questions. Her testing Geithner’s knowledge regarding the U.S. constitution was priceless. I’m just wondering has she realized yet how stupid she was?

The issue is not that Geithner made some gaffe about US monetary policy, because the question he was responding to and the statements made my the Chinese HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH US CURRENCY it has to do with what OTHER COUNTRIES base their money on as a standard for exchange and international commerce (just as English is more or less the language of international business). The fear about the dollar has to to with our enormous debt expressed by china and others is far from unwarrented in that case but Ms. Bachman is an idiot comparing apples and shiny rocks.

We need people like Bachmann at the helm, people that are sane, real Americans holding true to the cause of the American people. I can’t believe she is actually drawing up this legislation, I would be curious to know what some of the issues are in her district in need of fixing — clearly if she is spending all her time worried about the existence of our dollar within our borders, there are more important things falling through the cracks. What a shame, but for how much news this women makes it is a good thing her constituency is minimal in terms of population. Talk about a potential disaster should she represent anymore than she does.

When someone like this ignoramous speaks all you have to do to shut her up is ask a question about the dollars technical strength as compared to the Euro (anything will do because she knows nothing). When she stammers, follow it up with a question like “do you even understand your own currency?” or “How can you explain your position when you know nothing of how the system works”. What Bachmann fails to understand (amongst the many things she doesn’t understand) is that should President Obama actually wish to change to a world currency and keep the dollar here, he would be acting fully in accordance with his powers under the United States Constitution. This would be within the realm of foreign affairs, and the plenary power to act is the President’s alone under the Constitution. Congress may not interfere with this.
I wish she would read the Constitution sometime though. Maybe someone should send her a copy. She was on Hannity a couple nights ago crowing about how she really put Tim Geithner in his place by continuing to ask him where in the Constitution he draws his power from, and all Geithner could say was from the legislative act that created his department, which is correct…..But she seems to think that because there is no Federal Reserve in the Constitution, that he has no power at all.

I’m always amazed that our hometown St. Paul Pioneer Press doesn’t seem to carry all the Bachmann news that the national media does. Maybe they understand that the woman is as nutty as a fruitcake. How this woman has been elected to congress TWICE over much more intelligent candidates I have no idea. While the rest of the state is progressive, the northern and southern Twin City suburbs seem to elect some of the wackiest people to the House.
This bill is wrong. A proper bill should oppose a new global “reserve” currency than can be inflated or deflated by global central banks.

This is my first time on this site and will be my last. I had hoped to find some rational discussion instead it is filled with name calling. People resort to name calling when they have no argument. Some time might be well spent accessing a variety of sources of information then the posters on this site might develope the ability to defend their positions and no longer have to call names.

Congratulations! You are now fulfilling the Bible which says “Come now, and let us repeat together.”
Be sure to repeat what Walvoord, Lindsey, LaHaye, Ice etc. repeat what their own teachers repeat what their own teachers repeat etc. etc. etc.!
Repeat that Christ’s return is imminent because we’re told to “watch” (Matt. 24, 25) for it. So is the “day of God” (II Pet. 3:12) – which you admit is at least 1000 years ahead – also imminent because we’re told to be “looking for” it?
Also repeat the pretrib myths about the “Jewish wedding stages” and “Jewish feasts” (where’s your “church/Israel dichotomy” now?) even though Christ and Paul knew nothing about a “pretrib stage” and neither did any official theological creed or organized church before 1830!
You should read “Pretrib Rapture Dishonesty” on the “Powered by Christ Ministries” site to find out why you shouldn’t repeat everything your pretrib teachers repeat.
Do I have to repeat this?
I feel like I should be offended that most people don’t see that we’re heading down a path of self-destruction, indebted servitude and an acclimation to more government control, but I’m not. For this, I am more disappointed that we are repeating history once again.
This will be said many times in your life, and those who speak up will be the subject of ridicule and any other meme to distract the public from ever learning the truth- international bankers have usurped every nation on this planet and are designing a world collapse to impose World Government on us. Don’t believe me? I don’t expect you to until you do your own homework and open up your eyes, but realize this, you are in the same sinking boat as the rest of us. Those of us who see whats happening will just take a life-raft out, the rest of you can go down with the ship you so dearly defend.
