Eric Cantor Rips Chris Matthews, MSNBC, HuffPo, Liberal Bloggers For Inflating Birther Story
GOP Rep. Eric Cantor says he’s no birther — he has no questions about Obama’s citizenship, his spokesman tells me. But Cantor is placing the blame for the spread of birtherism not on its authors or on those politicians playing along with it, but rather on Chris Matthews, MSNBC, lefty news outlets and bloggers.
Asked for Cantor’s views on birtherism, his spokesman, Brad Dayspring, emailed me this:
“Mr. Cantor doesn’t question the President’s citizenship, but he has serious questions about the President’s push for government controlled healthcare, taxes on small business job creators, and a huge energy tax on middle class families. He finds it ironic that those most eager to talk about the President’s citizenship are in fact some of his biggest cheerleaders–whether it’s Chris Matthews or others on MSNBC, the Huffington Post, or camera toting liberal bloggers chasing people through the streets of Washington.”
This is the first time Cantor has publicly declared his disagreement with birtherism. But that aside, this is actually a really interesting response. Cantor would rather pick a base-pleasing fight with those who are trying to knock down birtherism than denounce those who are promoting and playing footsie with the idea that Obama isn’t legitimately our president.
And that’s the number two in the House GOP leadership speaking…

Benton, this is reminding me of a conversation I had with a friend who works in the bowels of bureaucracy up in DC; this friend says that it seems that either Monty Python of the Daily Show writers are scripting Micheal Steele and the Repubs. To people paying close attention, their antics are HILARIOUS, but to people not paying attention, those same antics seem politically smart and daring. To which I responded, “the political media always thinks that Republicans are being smart and daring”, and she said, “Because they aren’t paying attention to anything except each other.” The media is not very liberal or conservative, it’s an a-hole echo chamber.

Rachel Maddow ran a news segment showing one Republican Congressman after another quoting the Lewin Group, a supposedly non-partisan advisory group, which turned out to be owned by/fronting for a large insurance company, to show how the Republicans script their talking points and blindly repeat them until they beat their ideas into our consciousness. The “birther” movement is starting to sound like another script, and I wonder if Karl Rove has anything to do with it. We know he’s not really gone, and dirty tricks was his specialty. Are 42% really so stupid that they will believe garbage, or can’t look up what constitutes citizenship in this country? Scary!

My fondest wish for all of us here, and something I do quite regularly to the detriment of my friends, family, and acquaintances, is that when you encounter these crazy people in public, that you publicly shame them with their lack of knowledge. I do it all the time (a wingnut I was talking to the other day was CONVINCED that the Fed is regulated by the Dept. of Treasury because he heard it on talk radio and finally conceded the point after going to the Wiki page). I am a warm-hearted person, I’m an atheist, and I volunteer at a homeless shelter two weekends a month and give 10% of my salary away in charitable donations every year, lend money to friends and family when they need it, have more friends than a Quaker church, and am known for falling in love too easily, but I frickin’ HATE Republicans! Only 42 percent of Republican respondents in a Research 2000 survey, conducted for the liberal website Daily Kos, said they thought Obama was a natural born citizen; 28 percent said they did not believe Obama was born in the United States; 30 percent said they were not sure………..On another note: Cultural politics, as perfected by Karl Rove and his disciples in the last administration, has caused a widening education gap in the makeup of the the parties: The high education areas Obama carried – 78 of the 100 counties with the highest education. McCain carried 88 of the 100 counties with the lowest education. It must be painfull to be a Republican.
This is lame. It wouldn’t be a story for MSNBC if the GOP Reps that were asked had stated that they believe 100% that Obama is an American and they take great shame in any one of their constituents who thinks otherwise.
Instead, they soft shoe and literally RUN away. That’s the story. The story is that GOP Members of Congress are so politically motivated that they won’t disagree with their base, EVEN WHEN THEIR BASE IS INCORRECT ON THE BASIC FACTS.
Side note for fun: Why are no birthers asking about the citizenship of Obama’s mother? This location of birth issue was hashed out by Congress in 2000… for McCain.

Indeed. People will believe anything without a shred of evidence.
What is scarier that nearly half the people (not just 42% of Republicans which is the correct context of that figure above), believe that the Earth is only 6000 years ago, and that there is a God who made all living beings in their current form back then.
If you believe that there exists a three-in-one god, born of a virgin that he impregnated himself and sacrificed himself to himself to spare his own creation from his own wrath, and if you are a Christian, you certainly do, even if you resent my characterization of it, you should not question why people believe without evidence.

You know actually it isn’t a bad idea for a Presidential candidate to present whatever form his state has to show that he is American born. Wait. Don’t get mad. Because you can just about count on it that they’ll be using this for their own benefit if it isn’t addressed. The hitch is that the law should not state specifically what the piece of paper should be called. Obama of course has his document from the state of Hawaii and they all know it, but they’ve tried to make an issue out of what the state calls it because a lot of states call it something besides birth certificate, i.e. birth record, certificate of live birth, certificate of vital record etc. Make them word it so that a candidate just has to present a document from his state certifying that they were born there. And then of course, Obama’s form will be immediately accepted under the law. But in the future, we might spare ourselves something ugly with a questionable candidate.
For once, I agree with Cantor. I am especially surprised at HuffPo for covering this stupid notion from every angle. They even sent a “reporter” to the Hill to chase congressmen around. If the position of a news organization is that this is stupid, then they should be smart and refuse to cover it.

Couple comments worth making on that:
1. You cannot smear Republicans any better than they do so themselves when only 42% believe that Obama is a natural born citizen. Whatever this MSM is, it includes FOX News, CNN, Rush, Hannity, Beck, MSNBC … not all are Republican smear machines since some actively praise them.
2. Who are the 9/11 truthers that were supported by the MSM?

No, McCain was born in the Canal Zone, not Panama.
Yes, McCain’s citizenship was questioned when he ran in the primaries against Bush several years ago.
The reasons it was a non-issue:
1. McCain lost
2. Issue only came up in a Republican vs. Republican setting and no one cared.
I think that it is silly to go after Obama, and it would be silly to go after McCain.

That is all I have from my state. That is all you get anymore. To keep claiming it is not valid is the height of stupidity. It is why the last election was lost. These are the same GOPers who in the 2000 primary in South Carolina made statements about McCains black baby…when he adopted a young black girl. Appeasing the birthers reminds me of the GOP primary debate during which each of the Republican candidates was asked if he believed in evolution. Not one of them would admit that they did. He isn’t saying it’s a liberal conspiracy, rather MSNBC, Huff Post, etc. are making the story larger than it is to make the Republicans look bad. Those at MSNBC, Huff Post are talking about birthers because it is embarrassing to Republicans, that’s Cantor’s point. I don’t recall Cantor voting against the resolution in the House proclaiming Obama being born in Hawaii. What about that?

Obama’s Birth Cerificate presents the following anomalies:
a.- It has no State Of Hawaii Seal.
b.- It has no signature
c.- It has no crease. All Hawaiian BC’s are mailed and are hence creased.
d.- Obama’s BC doesn’t tells us who is filing it, which is strange since it was filed the same day Obama was born.Which is very unusual
e.-Obama’s BC doesn’t tell us what Hospital was he born in. Most Hawaiian BC’s say so clearly.
f.-Obama’s BC doesn’t mention the Name of the doctor who delivered baby Barack. 99% of Hawaii BC’s clearly say so.

That may be the point he is trying to get across, but it is false and he knows it. The truth is that we really don’t know whether Barack Obama is a natural born citizen or not. I just don’t understand why he won’t realease the REAL birth certificate, the one with the hospital name, the name of the doctor, etc. The fact that he won’t allow it to be released honestly makes me think he’s hiding something! Why won’t he just show it? The American public deserve better than that. We deserve an honest President, one who has nothing to hide. Personally, I’m contributing to the group that’s trying to get the real birth certificate made public. It’s beneath contempt for him to try to hide something like that. Actually, the “birthers” theory was born in the DEMOCRAT party, by Clinton and her supporters. They called for Obama to produce his birth certificate LONG before the republicans started asking him to do so. I’m not a birther, but have listened to the Kenyan ambassador (Google Kenyan Ambassador on the subject) say that Obama was born in Kenya, and his paternal grandma was at the birth. It’s enough to bring up red flags on the subject. I saw Cantor on PBS recently. He was grinning from ear to ear and literally salivating while stating that President Obama’s stimulus package was not working. No birther can explain the details Obama gives of his early life in his book written before 1995, before he had decided to run for anything, Dreams From My Father, which clearly states he was born in Hawaii. No birther can explain the two announcements in separate Honolulu newspapers announcing his birth within a week of the event in August 1961. No birther can explain how a mother born in Kansas of American parents herself could have a baby who is not a citizen no matter where he was born. No birther can explain how this young mother could have gotten to Kenya when her husband was a college student without the funds or the time to travel. No birther can explain why they would have gone to Kenya at all at the end of the Mau Mau Rebellion. No birther can explain how a wide majority of the American people are going to cotton to having their votes taken away from them if their president is thrown out of office over these spurious claims. Fortunately, it’s extremely unlikely given that the Supreme Court already refused to even hear their case. The Court doesn’t tend to overthrow elections, especially when they are won as handily as this one was. No birther can explain any hard evidence (like a BIRTH CERTIFICATE) to prove Obama was born in Kenya. So either put up or shut up. If you demand evidence for a Hawaiian birth, as if it hasn’t already been shown to you, then it is only fair for the rest of us to demand evidence of a Kenyan birth, and not some story someone supposedly told, most likely through a translator and subject to error and misunderstanding. I have just read through the responses to this story. I did not start out from neutral ground, but to my way of thinking, the left has become as engulfed with conspiracy ideas and slanderous name calling as the right has always appeared to be. I used to think that the right-wing had a monopoly on wackos, but these postings have proven, to me, that both are the same…prone to exaggeration to make a point, meaningless name-calling to emphasize a point, and, most scary, open to threats, to finalize our point, i.e. “He is lying through his little teeth, and I for one would like to knock them out with my fist.” and “It’s time they were stomped into the ooze where they came from.” I guess it boils down to both sides tend to over-sell their stand, we’re all human beings of various persuasions, education, mental abilities, some having learned conflict resolution through force, some repulsed by it, etc. But I now know what I had before suspected, that the left is just as dangerous as the right, and pray that neither will triumph without balance.
My IQ is above 120 which is higher than 90% of the GOP who believe this ****. Folks who believe this are below average in their IQ ( average is 90-100).

Well, I’m 63 and I have never in my life seen such horrible attacks against a sitting president based on pure fabrications. I thought (silly me) that what the right did to Clinton was so horrible, it could never be repeated. I was wrong. Just as during the campaign they made things up about Obama (he pals around with terrorists, he’s a Muslim), they just keep the **** coming. I had thought that since he’s black people would be more circumspect about what they might say against the president, but again, I was wrong. a.- It has no State Of Hawaii Seal.
b.- It has no signature
c.- It has no crease. All Hawaiian BC’s are mailed and are hence creased.
d.- Obama’s BC doesn’t tells us who filed it.
e.-Obama’s BC was filed the same day Barack was born. By whom? Mother in the Hospital, Obama Sr an immigrant for sure wouldn’t know where to go file it.
f.-Obama’s BC doesn’t tell us what Hospital was he born in. Most Hawaiian BC’s say so clearly.
g.-Obama’s BC doesn’t mention the Name of the doctor who delivered baby Barack. 99% of Hawaii BC’s clearly say so.

Hospitals send birth notices to the papers, and his birth was listed in two Honolulu papers. He testifies himself in his book that he was born there. Their was a raised seal on the Birth certificate showen by the Hawaii official. 2.MSNBC showed the raised seal from every few possible. 3. 2 newspapers printed his birth back then, and they have been viewed an authenic by the experts, as has been his certificate. 4.my own certificate does not give a Hospital name, as I was born at home and taken to the Hospital, but not born there 5. 1) There is the requisite kernel of truth to it: it resonates among the unsophisticated as a crude expression of their perception that Obama is “foreign”;

I say “nonsense” because, while I don’t have any way of knowing where Obama was born, I am confident that if there was anything to these rumors, Obama’s political opponents would have smoked it out a long time ago. The inquiries into Obama’s birth began when he was running for the Illinois senate, it didn’t just start.
You can’t be a Natural Born Citizen if your father is a foreigner on a student visa and a British Subject. His father was never a citizen and left this country after he finished his studies. You can’t be eligible if you are a dual citizen as he is.
It is a well known fact that Obama went by the name of Barry Soetoro after he was Adopted by his step father and moved to Indonesia. Indonesian Citizens are not eligible to be president of the USA, nor can they be dual citizens with the USA.
What is in question is his eligibility to be president according to the Constitution.
Another problem is that he was never vetted and he refuses to produce any documents pertaining to his life which include the birth certificate, school and college records, medical records, adoption papers, etc.
It was his grandmother in Kenya that stated that she witnessed his birth in a hospital in Kenya which added the birth certificate to the eligibility issue.
Naturalized citizens and citizens by statute are not eligible, only natural born (two US citizens on US soil) are eligible.
Roger Calero also ran for president, he was on the ballots, he was born in Nicaragua and lives in the US because he has a green card.
The problem is that no one checks out or vets anyone.
Alberta, No Hawaiian official has shown or documented any records pertaining to Obama, they said that there is a birth certificate on file, that’s all they said, not if it is a Hawaiian or foreign birth registration.
Hawaii allowed children born in foreign countries to have their birth registered and obtain a “Certification Of Birth,” if a parent meets residency requirements. They could have the Kenyan birth certificate on file.
Obama’s sister was born in Indonesia, a well documented fact…..but, she has a Hawaiian “Certification Of Birth,”just like the one you have seen on the internet with his name. Those are a dime a dozen that’s why people are demanding the long form that would prove that he was born in Hawaii.

It is amazing that Republicans are trying to duck their participation in this foolish birther story. The entire bruhaha has been pushed by folks like OReilley and Limbaugh Cantor, et al. But alas, fact check is making them seem like educational dolts so now they try to pawn off the blame on someone else. Only one thing more reprehensible than denying culpability and that is the silly attempt to name the opposition as the culprits. Sad to say, my party of Republicans seems to be first class at making those sorts of comments. Sooooo I just had to re-register I was so disgusted with the lack of truthfulness and morality in the Republican Party of late.
I had not read the totally ridiculous post by misanthropic when I posted my comments about the authenticity of the Obama Birth Certificate. However, now I must add some comments to refute his totally ridiculous comments. First of all, my sister has a child born in Hawaii, and guess what, my niece’s birth certificate looks exactly like the posted Obama birth certificate. Second, only someone of the purist racist bent would go to such silly lengths to make himself look foolish while discussing this straight forward issue. Perhaps this person missed the very objective statement of the Republican Governor of Hawaii who stated explicitly and categorically that indeed, Mr. Obama was born in Hawaii on the island of Oahu and in addition to her statement there is even a contemporaneous birth announcement in the Honolulu Advertiser, the Oahu newspaper of record. Even so, I do hope this goof keeps it up. He is just looking sillier and sillier. On the other hand, perhaps he also has reason to call the Republican Governor of Hawaii a liar??? As a Republican I thoroughly denounce these silly birthers and suggest they just make themselves look sillier and sillier as they keep on prattling.

Yes the birther consipracy is crazy… almost as crazy as the 9/11 conspiracy theory (popular Science did an EXCELLENT job at showing this to be wrong). I could care less about this trivia and much more about the stupidity coming from his mouth now. Nancy-Ann DeParle is the health czar (stupid term) and she was also the health secretary under McWherter when TennCare was enacted… terrible flop that resulted in RATIONED care and MANY things not covered (i.e. brain cancer was NOT on the list so please take your wife with a tumor in her head home and make her comfortable!). I know, I lived there, I saw it happen. Those too stupid to learn from the past are doomed to repeat it.

Number one Mr Obama HAS NOT released his long form Birth Cetifificate which has been sealed by the Stae of Hawaii. Number 2 he has not released any documentation related to his education and or actual writings not even his K thru 12 records. We do not even know who his parents actually are. Do you know Mr Obama’s mother started classes in 1961 15DAYS after giving Birth to Mr Obama in Seattle some 2600 miles away from Hawaii remember we are talking 1961! Did you know Mr Obamas Parents claimed to live in a house where the next door neighbor who has lived their for 50+ years has no recollection of the family and that is just the beginning! Now think that completely through it might raise some ???
I think it is quite interesting that someone as smart as you the readers of blogs such as this will not do their homework well enough to really understand the issue. The issue is Deception!!!! If Mr Obama is a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN then all of this information should be released and this DRAMA would be put to rest. However the Fact that Mr Obama has now Spent over $800,000.00 supressing information which would be easily disclosed is needless to say disturbing!

It is very frustrating trying to prove something that has been posted and is available (certified copy) by simply contacting the State of Hawaii Health Officials and a small fee. If you still doubt Obama’s birth certificate it would be simple to examine his birth announcemts published in the newspapaer archives, his school records, classmates,his basketball sport articles throughout his school years. I know you believe in your conspiracy theory that all this was made up. Only one conclusion to your argument, prove you are right. Prove it, ignore it, or just Hail Obama, our 44th president, a proud american hawaiian citizen. jkjr63

He is elected and it is a moot point now… what we ought to be focusing on now is what an idiot he is and the stupid policies he is pushing. The citizens of Gardner, KS are currently working to recall two members of their City Council. The recall is tied up in the courts at the moment, but it should go to a vote in March of 2010.
