Cantor Responds To Rush’s Latest
GOP House minority whip Eric Cantor is declining to comment directly on Rush Limbaugh’s claim to me that ABC News falsely reported that Cantor disagrees with Rush’s desire to see President Obama fail.
Asked to clarify his position on Rush’s “fail” hopes, Cantor spokesperson Brad Dayspring replied by suggesting that Obama administration officials should go talk to Rush:
If Robert Gibbs is worried about the policies Rush Limbaugh talks about on his show, he should call into the show — I’m sure Rush would welcome it. In the meantime, if Mr. Gibbs and the Administration want to focus on creating jobs and helping the Middle Class deal with an economy in recession, they should call Eric Cantor and work with us on the these very real problems.
The Gibbs mention appears to be a reference to the White House press secretary’s urging of reporters to start asking GOPers whether they’re With Rush Or Against Him.
I followed up and asked Dayspring directly whether it’s true, as Rush says, that Cantor agrees with him. Dayspring’s response:
At such a pivotal moment for our country, we must never lose sight of the fact that this is about ideas, not individuals. Our focus is on creating jobs and developing solutions to help Middle Class deal with an economy in recession.
Not sure how to parse that, except to say that the call for this to be about “ideas, not individuals” is kinda sorta a suggestion that Cantor doesn’t want Rush to attack Obama anymore, which is certainly understandable, given the predicament it has created for the GOP.

I’m sure His Blowhardness would welcome the chance to hang up on Gibbs.

I am. It means, “No comment. Now go away.”

jzap, you are unrivaled as a parser.
Its kinda proof that they are scared of Rush in that they won’t answer a direct question isn’t it?

Hi Greg,
A question about the title of your blog: Do you mean plumb line? With a B? As in:
plumb line, noun
a string with a metal weight at one end, used to test the depth of water or to test whether something is vertical
I think a plum line would be in a fruit-processing plant.
Thanks,
G Turner

Hello, G.
.
Greg addressed this a long time ago. Plum refers to the juicy perks (jobs, earmarks) that are traded as currency in D.C. And, yes, it is a play on words with plumb line.

Also of note, TPL is exactly one-up on TPM.

“Also of note, TPL is exactly one-up on TPM.” I think that would be 1/100th up.
Greg- having fun dealing with all these folks who’ve majored in Advanced Squirming?
Watching these hypocritical wingnut goombahs skittering and skulking about, trying not to answer any direct questions, tying themselves into contorted knots attempting *desperately* not to offend Dear Leader/Grand Poobah Rushbag, is positively hilarious! Like always, the truth will out, as it now has. They stand before the nation fully exposed as the vacuous, cowardly frauds they are.
I dare say this marks the beginning of the end of radio entertainer and screaming skull Rush Limbaugh. Remember 2001-2004, when no one thought GWB could ever be touched or brought down? Hubris destroys from within. It’s a cancer. Rush’s implosion is WAY past due.

Pen pals come and go pretty quickly, eh?

Josh Marshall has a post on the TPM front page, quoting from His Blowhardness’s show today:
Next up for Greg, Bill O’Reilly perhaps?

Congrats, Greg. I’m going to have to speak to you with greater deference now.
