Canadian Pol: I’m Helping Obama Realize Universal Health Care
Republicans are likely to jump on this one.
Canada’s New Democratic Party has blasted a new email to supporters touting NDP leader Jack Layton’s trip to America to “help President Obama in his fight for universal health care” — and GOPers may use it to argue that Obama is secretly scheming to impose a Canada-style single-payer system on America.
Republicans are currently circulating the email, which went out yesterday and was sent our way by a source:
Dear Friend,
Today, Jack Layton flies to Washington D.C. to help President Obama in his fight for universal health care. And to fight to protect our cherished Medicare back here in Canada.
It’s an important few days, and I want you to share every step…
I’m also down in Washington to meet with key senior Democrats about how they waged a winning campaign for change that put everyday people first, ahead of the big corporate interests — just like we want to do in Canada.
The full email, whose authenticity was confirmed by our reporter Amanda Erickson, is here.
Conservative media had jumped on earlier reports about Layton’s trip to America to suggest that the White House was strategizing to “implement a similar system” to the Canadian one. So expect more like this today.

These guys are really stupid aren’t they.

If you accept one premise in the letter you have to accept them all. I hope we have some Dems with some back bone that will throw that part of the letter right back at those @sshats.
Did anyone else find themselves humming ‘Blame Canada’ as they read this post?
Wheeeeee!
Oh boy, can’t wait to hear all the additional anecdotal Canadian Healthcare fiasco stories that’re sure to make it to talk radio. Maybe he’ll tell us what not to do that hasn’t worked so well for them, as well as what has been successful.
As someone who has seen the Canadian health care system up close and personal, I say ‘Bring it on!’. We need exactly such a system to make America stronger in every way.
Health care reform in this country is important in many ways. I think that looking at various systems that other countries have is important to evaluate what is working and what is not working. Any plan that we come up with should be tailored to our situation but bringing other ideas in is also good.
If Canadas health Care is so good, why do so many Canadian hate it and try to get to the US for treatment?
Everyone who thinks our health care system stinks, please show us an example of a better one.
