Tale Of Pelosi’s Mouse Money Just Won’t Die

As you readers know, this blog did its best the other day get to the bottom of the story about the $30 million that was allegedly in the stimulus bill for saving the mice in Nancy Pelosi’s district. As I discovered, there’s no such money in the bill.

But the tale just won’t die. It even found its way into The New York Times yesterday, in a piece quoting Republicans decrying “what they see as pork-barrel spending for projects like marsh-mouse preservation.”

The paper didn’t bother noting that there is no such money in the stim package.

Separately, MSNBC’s Morning Joe had a fact checker on this morning — weeks after the original tale surfaced — to declare the story “false.” Fine, but as Steve Benen points out,the Morning Joe crew was “flabbergasted” at the idea that the tale might be false.

“It apparently never occurred to the on-air crew that the talking point they’d repeated ad nauseum might not be truthful,” Benen noted, “so they were stunned by the facts.”

I actually think it’s more cringe-worthy than this. The Morning Joe dudes were noting ironically that they were surprised that the mouse money talking point was not true. It just wasn’t a big deal to them at all that this had happened.

Greg, the Republicans would rather make stuff up than have to face reality, cause reality is that they failed spectacularly and they are compounding their failure. They don’t just ignore reality, they fly in reality’s face.

    It’s breathtaking.

I don’t know if its on that WM video but I went to the MSNBC site and the craziest part of the segment IMHO is that after Adair thoroughly debunked it, right at the end Mika made the statement that it shouldn’t be in the bill. I mean it was almost like she hadn’t heard anything the guy said. Seriously Dr Z must have adopted her or something.

They are all acting like this. Michelle Bachman said this weekend that “America is running out of rich people.” I cannot tell you how that cracked my husband and I up when I read it to him. The whole party is Michelle Bachman and Rush Limbaugh – and Atlas Jugs and the Rottweiler and the whole cast of freaks that has been freaking the country for 12 years at least. It’s just unbelievable.
