Here’s The Email To The Sarah Palin Camp Asking For Comment On Rush
As you know, the Sarah Palin camp is claiming that yours truly misrepresented her quote yesterday about Rush Limbaugh’s repeated use of the term “retard.” Her spokesperson is now saying that she wasn’t singling out Rush and that I falsely presented it as a response to the talk show host.
The Palin camp is escalating this now, and it’s apparently turning into big news: The Politico has now done a story on it.
So here’s the email I sent to Palin spokesperson Meghan Stapleton asking for comment directly on Rush’s “retard” crack (click to enlarge):
As you can see, the email says: “Jason Recher said…you’d be reaching out to me about Rush’s use of the term `retarded.’”
Jason Recher is not a spokesperson for Palin. He worked on her book tour. I contacted him yesterday in the mistaken belief that he was still speaking for her. I read him Rush’s full quote, replete with repeated uses of the term “retard.”
Rescher, who handled this with complete professionalism, told me he would contact Ms. Stapleton and let her know I wanted a response to Rush’s comments. He subsequently let me know he had done this.
Some time later, I sent the above email yesterday afternoon to Ms. Stapleton, letting her know that Recher told me he’d reach out to her, and reiterating my request for comment on Rush’s use of the term “retard.” A little less than an hour later, she emailed me this quote:
“Governor Palin believes crude and demeaning name calling at the expense of others is disrespectful.”
I subsequently emailed her to be absolutely certain that it applied to Rush. She didn’t dispute this, answering that it applies to “anyone” who uses the term.
That’s how it happened.
This blog’s homepage is here. RSS feed here. Twitter feed here. Email me here.

Why post the Recher email but not the Stapleton emails?
If you’re going to screen cap one and not the other how do you think that makes you look?
the idea that any mention on this site of this latest palin-created nontroversy is intended to take the heat off the WH is patently absurd.
LOL. You can’t be serious.
This wasn’t “any mention on this site of the latest palin-created nontroversy.” Greg went and sought comment from Palin for the very clear purpose of creating a controversy and distracting from the Rahm problem. I haven’t even seen Greg deny that.
by any logical standard, limbaugh commits the greater offense.
You share with other liberals here the common forensic habit and weakness of overstatement. Here is a perfectly logical statement, whether you agree with it or not:
The issue is not whose offense is the greater one.
Emanuel is chief of staff to the President. He is perhaps the closest advisor to the most power person in the world, and is deeply involved in setting policy and deciding on actions that directly affect all of us. A person in his position should be held to a standard of behavior and discourse better than calling people who disagree with him “f***ing r*****s.”
Limbaugh is a talk show host and professional controversialist. People who want to listen to his radio show listen to it. It was in bad taste for him to use the word “r****d” to make his point about Emanuel, but he is not in a high-level position in government, in no sense represents the office of POTUS, and has no public office or function.
Excellent points!! But unfortunately, this is way too logical for quarterback. Plus he is a dittohead. Listens to Rush everyday. So he will always have a favorable view towards Rush.
Actually, the point made was completely illogical. Assuming as it did that Palin was speaking as a mother of a special needs child, that says nothing at all about whether her perspective would require dismissal of Rush as well as Rahm. I can’t even fathom how you think such equivalency is logically entailed. But, I have learned that liberals are simple minded.
As for me as supposed dittohead, no, I don’t listen that often. Didn’t listen at all today. I guess you overlook where I said above that I thought his remarks were inappropriate. They were also tasteless and unwise.
Hey, CONGA-RATS!
I bet you are blacklisted by Todd “MANTAN” Palin!!!!!
Why is anyone surprised by this?
Sarah palin is a liar and a hypocrite.
I’m not sure she even knows what the truth is anymore.
A female George Bush.
I like how you give away her email address…Someone’s about to get a lot of viagra ads…
quarterback,
While you argue that differing standards should be applied to White House Chiefs of Staff and radio hosts, Palin herself apparently does not:
“Just as we’d be appalled if any public figure of Rahm’s stature used the “N-word” or other inappropriate language, Rahm’s slur on all God’s children with cognitive and developmental disabilities – and the people who love them – is unacceptable, and it’s heartbreaking.”
Previously, the list of “R-word” slingers among the GOP favs included Limbaugh, Beck (who may hold the distinction for greatest frequency of use), Dave Carney, and Dennis Miller. We can add to that ignominious roster Anne Coulter ,Tucker Carlson, and opening act for Palin at the Teabagger Convention, Ted Nugent.
You contend this entire affair was concocted by the Obama White House to deflect attention from Emanuel. How mighty Obama must be! In order to make us all forget about a controversy that had yet to happen, years before he was even elected, he insidiously engineered a plot to get Limbaugh, Beck, Carney, Miller, Coulter, Carlson, and Nugent to ALL use the ‘R-word” multiple times over a period of years. Wow. That is some powerful mojo. If Obama is indeed powerful enough to orchestrate the actions of all those folks over a period of years, wouldn’t it just have been simpler to keep Emanuel from saying it in the first place?
We have a chorus of right wingers whose recorded combined usage of the “R-word” – often in far more offensive tones – exceeds Emanuel’s by a factor of tens, and still their is no reciprocity in the degree of outrage that Palin displays toward all of the above. And yet, still you continue to defend the hypocrisy on the right.
Your powers of reason and logic continue to amaze one and all. Hey, maybe your feckless analysis is also part of Obama’s insidious plot! He’s pulling your strings too! Either that or you really are a clod.
While you argue that differing standards should be applied to White House Chiefs of Staff and radio hosts, Palin herself apparently does not
No, actually I didn’t. Try reading again. I demonstrated that your pal above was overstating his case to claim that there is no logical basis to make a distinction. That was all.
In addition, a higher standard of conduct is not the same as a higher standard of accountability. I would imagine you would want your commercial airline pilot held to a higher standard regarding worlplace intoxication than, say, person who mops the floor at your local 7/11.
You contend this entire affair was concocted by the Obama White House to deflect attention from Emanuel.
Wow, you really CAN’T read with comprehension, can you? Never said anything close to that.
Your powers of reason and logic continue to amaze one and all. Hey, maybe your feckless analysis is also part of Obama’s insidious plot! He’s pulling your strings too! Either that or you really are a clod.
See above, and reflect.
And btw, Gasbag, read the quotation you cited carefully. You do realize that it doesn’t even support the claim you made?
WELL, WELL : What can one expect from this Palin when she doesnt even know where Russia is : Who is it that does not understand that she puts her mouth in gear before her brain, if there is one in there, She is milking the American people for all they will take and what does she care she will be one wealthy woman when she gets done. Like George Bush when asked about if he ever made a mistake. Answer; After a short thought : Well I cant remember of ever making one !! Hello !!!! Sarah
quarterback,
In addition, a higher standard of conduct is not the same as a higher standard of accountability. I would imagine you would want your commercial airline pilot held to a higher standard regarding worlplace [sic] intoxication than, say, person [sic] who mops the floor at your local 7/11.
Once again, you have favored us with one of your finest from your extensive collection of straw men. Please find the words “pilot,” “intoxication,” and “7/11” in ANY of my posts. If your nimble brain made that connection, then you are as daft as your oracle of tebaggery Palin.
You dodge, you weave, you twist, and you turn, but yet you never do explain why it is OK if a Republican uses this particular derogatory term but not if a Democrat does. Why will you not address that glaring bright white line of hypocritical double standards?
I believe that the Palin quote illustrates my point quite well, thank you very much. Unless of course you are conceding that Rush is not a public figure of Emanuel’s stature. Why does Limbaugh’s lesser status excuse offensive remarks? Limbaugh’s far more offensive use of the R word was on very public airwaves. Emanuel’s was at best insensitive and it was in private. How does that make Emanuel’s sin greater than Limbaugh’s.
Why don’t you just come out and say “IT’S OK IF A REPUBLICAN DOES IT” because that is the sum total of your argument. Maybe this really is the best argument that you can make.
Please… yet another word that only one type of person is supposed to use…. “Hey you can’t use that word! That’s our word! Nerf Herder…
Definition of ******:
NOUN:
1. A slowing down or hindering of progress; a delay.
So that would me that Sarah is a ****** in contrast to the political system, am I right? Of course I am
Now you can follow up and ask her about Glen Beck and his interest in paintings of retarded and insane people.
Will Sarah ask for this actress to be fired too?
sound clip available at: http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/200901090014
quarterback, you are twisting yourself into a pretzel in your attempt to justify yourself. it’s very simple. palin creates another nontroversy with her silly fakebook posts. Greg is simply addressing it. don’t get all paranoid. in addition, your obsession with Rahm’s PRIVATE comments is preposterous. what do you propose? that we monitor the PRIVATE conversations of all appointed and elected officials, because I’ll guarantee that some of what’s said will curl your hair. and it might offend. also. LMAO! finally, who knows what palin won’t eat. apparently, if it’s placed right next to her mashed potatoes, it’s all good. lol.
I love the way Sarah Palin sends you moonbats into an epileptic fit.
O-Bozo and O-Biden are not smart men. They have an IQ of a rock.
Now slowly, SLOWLY remove your lips from O-Bozo’s butt!
Palin herself supposedly called the baby a ****** all the time according to Levi Johnson (the kid is telling the truth to me) “Where’s the retarded little baby’ or or how’s my little ******???”
Probably meaning nothing about it but ’still’, shows her ignorance and talk about the pot calling the kettle black. I’m waiting for blowback to really kick her in the teeth.
You can hear the video over at Huffington Post. If Palin is gonna bash Rahm then she’d better damn well do to it to Rush too. What Gall she has.
Roy Rogers,
Sarah Palin attracts morons the way sh*t attracts flies. If you are implying that Palin is in any conceivable way intellectually superior to our current president, then it seems as if you are buzzing about like one of those flies.
Moonbats indeed.
I didn’t read all the comments here, since I have to get back to parsing Limbaugh’s latest pronouncements about he ain’t guilty of insensitivity to anyone or anything… but has anyone noticed that Rahm’s comment was describing the PLAN, not PEOPLE?
I’m sorry, but even the most intelligent people have been known to have “retarded” ideas.
You liberals are terrified by this woman called Palin. Why are you afraid of this woman? Why is it that the mention of her name is invoking fear in your hearts? You are chasing her like a cheetah does a gazelle. But you know this gazelle is way ahead of the “cheetahs” (I mean you liberals). If you liberals do not know, a cheetah cannot run for too long as its body gets heated up and needs to rest for the next 30 minutes or so to cool down. Guess what? By that time that gazelle is way ahead of the claws and teeth of the liberal cheetahs! Go Girl go!
Good for Sarah Palin as it is high time and long over
due,for someone to bust the Big Time Myth that screwball drug addicted fathead Rush Limbaugh is exposed as not being the “Voice of the Republican Party” and only a clown of the mainstream media to
laugh at and that is all. Hey Rush you damn well donot speak for this Independent Voter, and in fact Fathead Rush you and your kind of kook help me decide
to leave the Republican Party and go register as a
Independent Voter. I would gladly vote for Sarah Palin in 2012 for President! Thumbs Down On Obama and
Rush Fathead Big Mouth!
Before people make their opinions known on the word ****** or retarded they should look it up in websters dictionary.
Seeing as though you didn’t even have the decency to blur out Meg’s email address, it’s no wonder you’re having trouble understanding this situation.
Her response just go to show what a hypocrite she really is.
ch,
Apparently none of this is simple enough for you to grasp. I’m not trying to justify anything, let alone myself. I pointed out how Greg just manufactured a noncontroversy. Your suggestion that I’m obsessed with Rahm’s comments just betrays that you either didn’t read what I’ve said here or have a serious comprehension problem.
Take a look at Greg and yourself and figure out who is paranoid and obsessed. You morons call Palin an idiot and every other name in the book and account her a complete incompetent and pariah, yet you obsess over everything she does and says. You are hilarious. Normal Americans are laughing at you.
And Greg didn’t “just address” it. He inserted himself by soliciting a comment and then twisting it on this blog. He is obsessed with Palin.
Gasbag,
Do you really think everyone who reads this blog is as dense and obtuse as you are?
Please find the words “pilot,” “intoxication,” and “7/11” in ANY of my posts.
What a pathetic evasion. Did I say you used that illustration? No, I used it, and I note that you don’t dispute it.
But let’s spell it out in case you really are too stupid to understand: One might logically hold that an airline pilot and a janitor should meet the same standard of conduct respecting intoxication on the job but be held to a different standard of accountability: Neither should be drunk, but the pilot would be fired while the janitor might get a second chance. Even a dullard like you should be able to get that. In the same way, it is perfectly logical to hold Rahm to a higher accountability than Rush. No one with a brain should need more explanation why.
You dodge, you weave, you twist, and you turn, but yet you never do explain why it is OK if a Republican uses this particular derogatory term but not if a Democrat does. Why will you not address that glaring bright white line of hypocritical double standards?
I didn’t say it was okay. I quite explicitly said Rush’s comments were inappropriate and tasteless. I also said I don’t think Raham’s remark alone requires his firing. As usual, you cannot address what I actually said. Straw men? It is all you know besides vulgarity and pomposity.
How does that make Emanuel’s sin greater than Limbaugh’s.
I never said it did, now did I? In fact, I said in my opinion that isn’t the right question.
You’ve done nothing be prove againg that you are incapable of honest argument.
