Fox News Corrects False Claims About Gay Obama Education Adviser — Will Hannity Do The Same?
Okay, so Fox’s news division, such as it is, has now quietly issued an online correction of the false claims the outlet had been making while waging a high-profile assault on Kevin Jennings, the gay high-level education adviser who’s reviled by conservatives for his past in gay rights activism.
The question: Will Sean Hannity, who amplified the attack on Jennings from his huge platform, also correct the record, just as his own network has? For a major personality like Hannity to admit error on the air would be much a bigger deal than for the network to do it online.
Fox News and Hannity have been all over Jennings. Hannity called for him to be fired, accusing him of covering up “statutory rape.” The basis for the charge: When Jennings was a young teacher a teenager confided in him about having sex with a stranger and Jennings didn’t report it to authorities. Jennings has said he regrets his actions.
The “statutory rape” charge is based on the assertion that the kid was 15 years old at the time, a claim originally floated, wrongly, by Jennings himself, and continuously amplified by Fox News and the right even after it had been corrected.
On Friday Media Matters produced what it said was the kid’s drivers license, showing that the kid was 16, legal age of consent in Massachuttes, and also produced a Facebook exchange that seemed to show that a Fox News reporter had been informed directly by the kid himself that they’d misrepresented his age.
Fox News has now issued an online correction. But Hannity has been silent on this since Friday. It’ll be interesting to see if he corrects the record on the air. I’m checking with his producer and will keep you posted.

I just saw Hannity early last week standing there with a bunch of farmers and claiming they are the salt of the earth who never ask for help from government. What’s wrong with that statement?
Farming is the most heavily government subsidized industry in the country.
Therefore: Hannity could not care less about being correct.

Multi-Billionaire Conservative [Oil Industry] Tycoon David Koch Acknowledges Financial Role in Anti-Tax Movement
For months, liberal researchers from the Center for American Progress to Firedoglake to the Rachel Maddow Show have pored over the financial records of libertarian tycoon David Koch to see just how deep his influence ran within the Tea Party movement. On Saturday, speaking at the Defending the American Dream Summit sponsored by Americans for Prosperity, Koch did it for them. Walking onstage at a morning rally, holding a Washington Award that he was about to give to Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C), Koch took credit for launching one of the key organizations of the conservative insurrection.

Nice “grassroots” operation funded by the #19 person on Forbes’ BILLIONAIRES list……………..
Sean Hannity is too stupid to realize he’s in the wrong. If he’s told directly to say something he says it. He’s about the biggest corporate mouthpiece fraud on the radio.
Case in point.
At the time of the auto bailouts, Hannity remained silent for the most part about GM specifically. Sure, he chastised the Administration for wanting to get their hands in the auto industry. Many conservative loudmouths on the air were calling for an all out boycott of “Government Motors.” All, except for Hannity.
At first I wasn’t sure why. I expected him to jump on the bash GM bandwagon then I heard an interview he was having with a high end GM manager. He pretty much gave the guy a rub down on the radio. Next you hear Hannity praising GM cars on a radio add. GM was one of his sponsors.
It’s pretty obvious the guy has no principles and just does what he’s told to do.
Hannity never corrected, to my knowledge, his mis-representation out here about “Turn the Water Back On” when the water had already been turned back on in the San Joaquin Valley at the end of June per prior committments to the ag. business. A false mis-representation from Hannity is the way he rolls.
Personally, I’m pretty doubtful we’ll get an apology, more likely a double down.
Ethan – as I said yesterday – the Tea Baggers/Tax Rebels/Town Hallers are the most well-subsidized “populists” I’ve ever seen.
Ethan, I’m not surprised. Mark Ames and Yasha Levine at Exile Online broke this story first back in February. Back then, nobody took note.
It’s good to see those guys were dead on.
“A false mis-representation from Hannity is the way he rolls. ”
Those were the farmers Hannity was claiming never asked the government for a thing. He was dead wrong about farming and dead wrong about the water.
Sean Hannity: Media Mattes’ 2008 Mis-informer of the Year
Can he do it again? Probably.

>>>Those were the farmers Hannity was claiming never asked the government for a thing.<<<
The very idea of conservatives supporting small farmers is probably the single biggest farce since Orly Taitz.
Here’s another recent falsehood we’re still waiting for a correction on.
Hannity: “Sounds like ACORN has somebody on the inside of the White House.” Hannity stated on his Fox News program that “questions are being raised” about Gaspard’s alleged connection to ACORN and that “according to The American Spectator, he previously worked as the political director for none other than Bertha Lewis, who is now the chief organizer of ACORN.” Hannity added, “Sounds like ACORN has somebody on the inside of the White House. Now there’s a real comforting thought.” [Hannity, 9/28/09]
“After Matthew Vadum wrote in The American Spectator that “[e]vidence shows that years before he joined the Obama administration,” White House political affairs director Patrick Gaspard “was ACORN boss Bertha Lewis’s political director in New York,” Fox News seized on the blog post, asserting that — in Sean Hannity’s words — “ACORN has somebody on the inside of the White House.” However Politico’s Ben Smith has since reported that the allegation “just isn’t true” and that the White House has denied the American Spectator report; in its reporting, Fox News gave no indication that they attempted to fact-check the Spectator report or contact the White House for a response.”
My “false mis-representation” is meant to read “false representation” Sheesh and sorry.
Thank goodness I just cancelled cable. Now I don’t have to run into that idiot’s smears and lies. And not to mention his childish and red faced screaming….
This is so typical… these are the fools our right-wing trolls are defending at all costs:

WellPoint, the largest health insurer in the United States which pays its CEO roughly $10 million, announced that it is cutting back on the health benefits it offers to its own employees. WellPoint also announced that it will eliminate some jobs at the company, while raising deductibles and premiums for some of its employee health benefits.

Good for FNC – seems “fair” to me.
Who here is even brave enough to watch Hannity to see if he does the right thing?
Has nothing to do with courage and everything to do with wasting time for no good reason. Mediamatters will let us know – they have people who watch so I don’t have to.
I’m still waiting for him to accept the invitation to be water boarded. He quickly hushed up on the that subject once he was put to the dare.
15 or 16 – the right thing to do is report it. It was wrong to keep his mouth shut. That said, it was a long time ago & who really cares.
Fox seems to have institutionalized a culture of lying for political and ratings purposes. But, I will say this, Olbermann and Maddow on MSNBC routinely acknowledge their show’s errors and they do it on-air during prime time.
healthnut
Uh no, if the young man was sixteen and it was consensual then no crime was committed and there is nothing to report. In other words there is no reason to disclose the contents of a conversation that was clearly intended to be confidential.
@sbj I’m pretty sure spending an hour with the-man-with-the-monster-melon is an example of masochism, not bravery. (and just an observation: Beck’s head is abnormally sized as well … coincidence?)
What does it matter if the kid was 15 or 16 it is still a crime and it is still sick. That the only help a teacher would give to a 16 year old kid in high school being raped by a homeless man at a bus station is…. Well I hope you wear a condom.
Texan. 16 isn’t a crime there. If you don’t like the law, change it. It’s 17 in Texas. Still pretty young but still not illegal.
boycott of “Government Motors.”…and the reason for this? because Obama touched it. Just as they are celebrating the loss of Chicago’s bid. America be damned
@kgb999: Thanks for the laugh about abnormal head sizes! So true. There was a Family Guy joke about one such actress that I can’t recall…
“I will say this, Olbermann and Maddow on MSNBC routinely acknowledge their show’s errors and they do it on-air during prime time.”
Laugh of the day.
Greg, you grossly overplayed this “correction.” Just for starters, Jennings appears to have believed he did something wrong. So apparently it isn’t as clear cut as you would like to think. Whether the kid was 15 or 16, let average Americans familiarize themselves with this guy’s record, and they would see him as more fit to be tarred and feathered than appointed to high office meddling in school “safety,” which in truth means invading parents’ and students’ rights.
Revised for you QB:
“”"Whether the kid was 15 or 16, let average Americans familiarize themselves with this guy’s record”"”
Should be:
“”"Regardless of the law in that state, let Fox News brainwash their viewers on this guy’s record with lies and propaganda…”"”
You’re welcome.
Poor kid, FOX and Hannity should be ashamed. Jennings was trying to protect the kid- by not blowing things out of proportion by getting the cops involved, etc. All that would serve to do is mortify the kid, which would confuse him further and could lead to depression or even suicide. Young gay kids are especially fragile when they are dealing with coming out and expressing their sexuality. They are sensitive and do not want a big production (whether it’s cops, the school, parents, etc) about their sexuality. They are secretive and protective of their sexuality and themselves. Jennings did what he thought was best for a young, confused, gay kid. Likewise, we should leave the kid alone too.
As for everyone else- it’s none of our damn business.
To Hannity, reporting, false reporting and lying are the same thing.
Massachuttes? um…. Massachusetts
The day cowardly hannity the “patriot” admits he is wrong will be the day that that chicken hawk will live up to his promise of being warterboarded for charity. He’s a pathetic cowardly weasel who cares about his own bank account and uses the clueless rethug sheep to advance his lies and bigotry.
quarterback and texan….pathetic excuses to show you’re really not a bigot, like the moronic comments you leave, only prove what ignorant bigots you really are. Read some facts before you spew your misinformed opinions.
@ken – nice you feel that way. I’d have reported it. Jenning’s is on record saying he should have. I have no problem with Jennings today – it was a long time ago and Hannity is a stupid attack dog.
However – it doesn’t make him keeping quiet on the subject all those years ago the right thing to do.
jbantrow,
If you have something substantive to say, feel free to say it. Otherwise, you are just another mindless hater. Try hating less; you’ll start feeling better.
Annuity is just a big blow hard trying to keep up with Beck so will spout anything without checking the facts.
Beck does the same but he screams and cries to get his lies to the people..
Limbaugh he does whatever the voices in his head tells him to do..
There all pretty bad to me,its hard to listen to all the Hate and Jealousy they all three have in common.
They all share one Brain Cell and fight over who gets it for the day..
@ sbj, brave, Fox News and sbj do not belong in the same sentence with each other. I’m still waiting on Fox to correct their story about Obama attending a madrassa. Is that fair??
Is anyone surprised? FOX and conservatives are stretching–streeeettttccchhhinnnggg–for something to discredit Obama. Their language is inflammatory and false, and thankfully they are being exposed. http://www.newsy.com/videos/new_czar_on_target
Waiting for corrections is a fool’s game. Conservatives have been banging their heads against the walls for years over this type of stuff.
of course insHannity won’t retract or otherwise correct his misstatements. i don’t recall him ever publicly correcting any before this.
@ sbj, Waiting for Fox News to correct its story about Obama attending a madrassa is not a fool’s game. It’s called respectful and respectable journalism. Republicans haven’t a clue what that is.
Somehow, in the Republican Fantasy World, someone who expects a correction to something as false as Obama attending a madrassa is a fool. What a world you live in bj.
Oh, Chris. I’ve waited in vain for the folks at MSNBC and The NY Times, CBS etc etc and so on and so on ad infinatum to correct their misrepresentations. Waiting for a correction isn’t journalism. Waiting for corrections from sources you have already concluded are biased is a fool’s game.
So why can’t Jenning demand an apology from Hannity by threatening to file a lawsuit?
yeah a law suite. there is an original concept from a lefty. As usual the losers from the left didnt actually read the retraction stating that the “lie” was the boy was 16 and not 15 at the time. That is as good as Knots goldberg coming out and trying to distinguish was it “Rape or was it RAPE RAPE” anyone have a 13 year old they carte to leave with polanski? Typical losers from the left. repeating what they hear and not what they know.
Here you go dummies, how’s the change you need working out for ya?
EDITOR’S NOTE: Since this story was originally published, the former student referred to as “Brewster” has stepped forward to reveal that he was 16 years old, not 15, at the time of the incident described in this report.
How about NBC? MSNBC? the proven blathering lies from blubberman and her husband Maddow now thats journalism.
Although the kid was 16, Jennings thought he was 15 and failed to report the incident to the authorities.
We have no reason to believe that Jennings thought the kid was 16. He was likely talking about how a typical sophomore is 15 when they start the school year, not that this kid was 15. He said other times that the kid was 16. Teachers, medical professionals and lawyers have to follow the law – when required, they have to report stuff, but when no law has been broken, they have to preserve the privacy of the kids. No law was broken, so Jennings should not have informed anyone of the private conversation he had with the student.

Free the Freak Market Gamblers. Bet on anything.
Rich gets ultra rich trickles down to Middle Class.
From 1946 to Reagan was Great Middle Class Years.
Each percentile increased almost evenly, percent, and economists called it the Picket Fence distribution.
Reagan policies began upward shift.
It became a Step Ladder distribution. Each step gained a little but top step (10%) went into orbit.
Huge Tax Cuts for top (60%)
Huge tax increase on Middle Class. Payroll Tax Increase largest in history. 50% tax on social security checks. 5-cent tax on gas.
Enormous increase in military spending to enrich backers in California and rich shareholders in defense industries
Reagan increased Spending buy 80%. Debt by 170%
Do not try usual conservative spin—“it was congress”.
Reagan 8 budgets spent more than prior 50 years.
He submitted 8 for over 7000b. 1930-1980 spent 6066b—congress returned 8 budgets to Reagan with fewer dollars in total than he had submitted to it.
Go ahead try usual conservative spin—“real” inflation adjusted dollars—no work senor—
From 1948 to 1989 Reagan spent 2.7 dollars in 8 for each “real” dollar spent in other 32 years. Comprehendez amigo? Factoids hurt? Si!
Try usual Heritage spin—Reagan tax cuts paid their way—huh! From 1983 to 1989 federal revenues increased from 599b to 990b. 391b increase. Correct. But-Reagan tax cuts were income tax cuts therefore it seems logical you measure income tax revenue increase.
319b increase. 201b was increase in payroll tax revenue from Reagan huge increase in it.
50b in excise tax increase partial from gas tax. 251b of 391b. Durn! That leaves 140b increase in income tax revenues. My math professor Dr. Hook taught me 140 “in” is smaller than 750 “out”. Factoids are miserable things.
In 1980–86% of employees had Health Insurance-In 2008—31%.
Bush/Cheney did more damage than Reagan.
Increased Spending by 118% and Debt by 100%
Cut Taxes for top 2.7% or four times the amount for bottom 80%.
His 1700B in tax cuts were in 5000b he borrowed
Bush/Cheney led us into two awful Slaughteramas. Hundreds of thousands were killed. Tens of thousands of little children were maimed for life. Tens of thousands of wives lost their meal tickets. What is wrong with Americans?
Ever know a so-called Christian pastor or congregation in America to pray and weep for those people? I WEEP. Millions of tears shed, justly, for the Holocaust. None here.
Bush had worst record since Depression on Job creation. He got 3000 net new jobs per month. Disgusting when compared to records of 218,000 by Carter and 237,000 by Clinton.

Bush sr. said do not do it.
Leadership of each major religion in America said do not do it. Exception was Southern Baptist.
Polls in major nations said do not do it. Exceptions were Israel-Poland-Australia.
Cheney was heard to tell Rumsfeld the day after 2001 inauguration “prepare to invade Iraq”. Equipment was moved into Kuwait far ahead of Bush “Cheerful” announcement on invasion. It was Bush fulfilling his statement to his biographer ”I will need a war to be a successful president”.
Wall Street was allowed unrestricted gambling. It was unproductive. No jobs were created. It was simply the Rich betting money against other Rich money to get richer. Las Vegas type gambling.
AIG covered any bet. Texas gambler bet on Housing crash and won 1 billion. AIG paid him out of 185B supplied by our taxes. Goldman Sachs loss was paid by AIG out of our taxes.
The Housing Industry sustained our GDP growth but wasted capital-labor-materials in constructing homes to large-too expensive for the middle class incomes. Federal Reserve increased the Total money supply by 4000 Billion in five years which was twice the increase over the prior ten years.
Greenspan gave Clinton a 6.5% Interest Rate and immediately gave Bush a 1%. The increase in money supply and very low interest rate encouraged banks to borrow max and encouraged developers to build build build.

Shades of S & L in 1981. Remove local ownership. Rich pals of Milken come and get it vaults are wide open. Government assures you no loss.
A feeding frenzy took place on home mortgages, which were sold via securities as high grade investments to unsuspecting investors around the world. Refinancing was a major part of the frenzy. Speculators took part. As of January 2008 twenty-three percent of foreclosures were on homes purchased by Speculators. Some purchased entire developments.
Assumption was correct from history. Homes always increase in value. Always.
History can be wrong..
From 1980 to 2008 was a disaster period for working people. A bonanza for Gamblers on Wall Street And CEOs.
Why did not CEO’s increase income of employees? In one year they made 550 times the average pay of workers. Remember the good old middle class years when it was 40 times? It is irrefutable that 1981 to 2008 was Enrich the Rich Ditch the rest.

Texan, learn the LAW, no crime was committed, 16 is age of consent.
So, Kevin Jennings did not go to the authorities to report a crime because ….. no crime was committed! Instead, he gave the kid some sound advice that the kid then, hopefully, took to heart. Maybe Kevin Jennings saved a life; who knows. But the demagogues at Fox “News” don’t seem to care. Anything to smear an Obama official.
The story says that Jennings himself believed the child to be 15. That means he condoned statutory rape by intent, if not by the letter of the law. I have no qualms with homosexuality between consenting adults, but I don’t think **** should fall on their swords for Jennings over whether the kid was 15 or 16.
Wow, you starred out the word g.a.y.s. Is it a bad word now?
@ bj, something as serious as reporting Barack Obama attended a terrorist training school should fall squarely in line with the “fair and balanced” slogan of your Fox News. CNN and the others also misrepresent stories as well. Where do I claim they don’t? And where have they ever reported something so untrue and so viscous without correction as Fox has with their madrassa story?
You applaud Fox for hiding their Jennings correction on their website when an actual and honest correction should have been done on the air. There is nothing “fair” about that. Yet you label people “fools” for expecting what “fairness” actually is. Biases or not, waiting for corrections is not foolish. Those who chalk it up to bias are, however. What a world you live in SBJ.
I just want all you lefties to ask, if Kevin Jennings was a Republican and gave that same advice to the kid, what would you and media be screaming right now? This is about children. Jennings has also listed the head of NAMBLA as one of his heroes. Think about that again if he was Republican.
Have a good day and be honest with yourselves, whatever your politics.
CBourke, liberals can’t be honezt, they always resort to namecalling when they are losing cause thats what they are doing. Its in their nature. They rather have a pedophile supporter being close to the prez then actually do what a sensible person would do. Demand the person would resign or get fired. Mr Jennings no matter if the guy was 15 or 16 should still have reported in, no matter what. Now this freak wants the schools to teach pro gay propaganda and stop teach hetrosexuality. What is wrong with this picture. Kevin Jennings need to crawl back under the rock he came out from. We need to put god back into the schools and the 10 commandments back into the courthouses. Teach the children good christian values and maybe just maybe we can stop this crazyness the left wants so badly.
“It’ll be interesting to see if he corrects the record on the air. I’m checking with his producer and will keep you posted.”
I sure hope no one is holding their breath waiting for this to occur! To say the least it would be rather shocking if it does!
See me at MMfA.org as well
Hey um… Matt
This is America pal… not Pakistan or United Arab Emirates! God has no business in public schools or in our court houses! Religious freedom seems to be something you fear… I wonder why that is?
Mr. Gelb,
Jennings didn’t know IF a crime HAD been committed. He had little to go on enough to report anything. You’ve never worked a hotline have you? Or done any crisis calls. Sometimes young gay people keep themselves and their situations vague. Police can’t be rolled out on vague.
As it turns out, that youngster (now in his mid 30’s) acknowledges that he HAD’NT engaged in ***, and Jennings DID save his life.
In those times, and even now, law enforcement officers are just as abusive as a would be perp on a gay person.
Indeed, there was an incident where a police officer caught two teen boys kissing in a car. The officer threatened to tell the parents of one of the boys, and that kid killed himself.
In a better world where being out wouldn’t and can’t carry the spectre of further abuse, Jennings acted and had to, in a much different way than straight people have the luxury of doing.
The MA drivers license offered by Media Matters proves absolutely nothing! Any homo-sympathetic soul with a MA drivers license could come forward and say, “It was me! I’m the kid who Kevin Jennings fed to the wolves!”
Peggy
No they couldn’t. Unlike your favorite “journalists,” Media Matters fact-checked the MA DL.
Again, when is Fox News going to acknowledge that “Obama attended a madrassa” was a lie. Not a mistake, a flat-out lie.
Some people don’t want their journalists to lie just to get a sensationalist story. When Fox News refuses to act like a legitimate “fair and balanced” news source by adopting such tactics, it puts itself in the realm of the National Enquirer, another blind pig that finds an acorn every now and then.
Jennings WANTS children taught to be gay. Why?
BECAUSE ITS RECRUITMENT.
You want your stinking civil war? Not enough you are destroying our economy with your socialist bullcrap? Now you want to have *** with our kids?
You will regret bringing it on.
On his radio show today, Hannity repeated the lie.
clarence swinney,
Really now,the past is the past.Yes we have had some really bad ‘leaders’ in the past.We really can’t do anything about that now,can we? What matters is what is going on now!All these’facts’ you present shy to comparison of the spending and borrowing going on now.
“Bush had worst record since Depression on Job creation. He got 3000 net new jobs per month. Disgusting when compared to records of 218,000 by Carter and 237,000 by Clinton.”
So how many jobs is obama creating? Would’nt that be in the minus hudreds of thousands monthly? When he shoves this cap and trade BS down our throats, how many more jobs will be lost?
obama hates America.Period.When socialist nations tell us we are on that path,it pretty much proves this fact.
It does not matter if the kid was actually 16 at the time. What matters is that Jennings thought the kid was 15 because that tells you that if the kid was 15 or 14 or whatever he would have done exactly the same thing. Also, is anyone going to support his admiration for these Nambla perverts?
Oh 16 years well that settles it in my book. A grown man having *** with a 16 year old child ? Liberals have their heads way up their asses.
I care about a bunch of **** as much as I care about a bounch of straight people. *** belongs behind closed doors. I dont care if you’re ******* a sheep, just don’t make me watch.
Jesus. Tone down the censorship. Give me a break. What are we, a bunch of grade school children?
