Flashback: Scarborough Chortled That DHS Extremists Report Was “Funny,” Called Napolitano “Nuts”
In light of yesterday’s Holocaust Museum shooting, it’s not particularly challenging to go back and flay particular examples of pundits and Republicans attacking the DHS report on “right wing extremists” that has since been proven right.
But this one, from Joe Scarborough, is particularly funny and worth a look. Check out Scarborough at a little after the one-minute mark, yukking it up about the “funny” report and talking about how DHS chief Janet Napolitano had gone “nuts”:
Scarborough: “This is a funny story. This is a laughably — oh my God, they’re nuts. Janet Napolitano has gone nuts. Listen to this. This is funny.”
Rachel Weiner flags another funny one from the vid: Fox News anchor Andrea Tantatos dismissing the report’s findings as a “made up threat.”
Of course, most of these folks don’t particularly care about having been spectacularly wrong about something as important as this, being adherents of the never-look-back school of punditry. Indeed, what’s interesting is how surprising it is when someone does acknowledge having been wrong. Note how pleasantly surprised everyone was when Fox’s Shep Smith conceded yesterday that the DHS report should have been seen as “a warning to us all.” This simple admission was actually a bit startling.

Yeah and Scarborough also said yesterday that Jon Stewart is very very angry and has a Napoleon complex. If there is one person I’m sure doesn’t have a Napoleon complex, it’s Jon Stewart.
Scarborough is just flat stoooopid,. He is – I don’t know why he has a job – all he knows how to do is yell and not let anyone else get a word in.
Thank you for pointing this out Greg – I actually tweeted Joe yesterday and asked him to address this morning on Morning Joe, since he laughed at it so much when the report came out…he was outraged and mocked the report and mocked DHS and mocked Napolitano. But this morning, NOTHING from him. I reminded him in my tweets that one of Bush’s major character flaws was that he would never say that he was wrong on anything, ever! I think Joe could become a more reasonable voice for the GOP, I don’t agree with him on his fiscal policies, but he calls out the GOP when they are being ridiculous and he is a strong proponent on the environment, but he can kiss any political aspirations good bye, if he can’t figure out a way to acknowledge when he was wrong about something…this isn’t the first time this has happened with him, as I watch his show in the morning before work, but this is the most blantant and frankly the most disappointing. It’s disappointing to me, as a viewer, that he doesn’t have the character to address the issue and admit that he may have overreacted to the DHS report. Very disappointing.
Scarborough and political aspirations? Keeerist! I guess he’s just stoopid enough to be a Repug pol.

Both Joe and Mika are now a bore. They have the same schtick, the same guests and the same **** being dished out. I watch it once or twice a week for no more than 15 minutes and say to myself-: “nothing new here: moveon” and now they’re selling coffee. Must be hard up!!!
Joe and Mika can’t talk about the report, they have to promote Joe’s book. He’s taking Mika to book signings because apparently the women love her. They’re setting records at bookstores in NJ, so they say.
Shep Smith has been uncommonly rational for a fox winger lately – his ****** torture comment and now this. I don’t watch fn. Is this his usual MO or is he just being reasonable for a change?
Come on now. I used the letter ex with the word rated and they blocked it? Isn’t that overly priggish?

CDW, darlin, it’s better than it used to be. At first, you couldn’t say “gay.” Or “Dick” as in Cheney. Or “***,” as in gender.
You still can’t say S-E-X? Lord -
That’s because Joe is a Super Serious, tough guy, macho man.
Remember Laurie Klausitus!

Joe is not as stupid as he acts. He takes the deliberate tack of minimizing republican stupidity and comparing it to a Dem politician – he is extremely revisionist but he is trying to make Repubs look better. He also knows his audience is Dem (otherwise they’d be watching Fear & Bias). Mika is the true moron. As K Hussein put it, she is there for the women. All her comments miss the point. Joe is phony and annoying but he is not all that dumb.
The biggest problem is that they put CNBC frauds on the air to insult the viewers and spill their lies.
I love how Mika’s dad described Joe — “stunningly superficial”. Spot on.
How dare you talk about someone elses anger. You are the poster boy for anger Joe. Your like a time bomb ready to go off any minute. Why don’t you apologzie for saying Napolitano is nuts. Stop with the holier then thou attitude.
