Even Fox News Says Palin’s Fort Bragg Visit Was “Campaign” Event
Fox News personalities don’t often agree with the Associated Press about matters involving Sarah Palin — remember the AP’s dreaded fact-check of her book — but on one point they concur: Palin’s visit to Fort Bragg really seemed like a campaign event.
As you may recall, the Army was forced to limit Palin’s book-tour stop at Fort Bragg, out of fear that it would become an Obama-bashing political event. Palin agreed not to give a speech or pose for photographs, presumably fearing she’d be seen politicizing a visit with the troops.
But if Palin didn’t want to appear political in such a setting, it doesn’t appear to have worked.
Fox’s Greta Van Susteren, interviewing Palin last night, was surprisingly blunt about her Bragg event: “That felt like a campaign or a political rally. That didn’t feel like a book signing.”
The Associated Press, meanwhile, reached the same conclusion, describing it as a “campaign-like gathering” and noting these details:
Palin’s tour bus parked nearby, splashed with her photo, encouraged donations to her political action committee, while supporters made clear that she should run for president.
Palin, furious over the AP’s fact-checking of her book, has already denounced the outlet for doing “opposition research” on her. But on this point — the political appearance of her Fort Bragg visit — the AP has the backing of none other than Greta.

Of course it was campaign event. It was a cynical attempt to co-opt the military for Sarah Palin. It turns out that “Going Rogue” isn’t selling so well at Fort Bragg. Neither is the charade of Palin’s political aspirations.
That was one of the all-time worst ideas anyone ever had and I’m glad the military put a stop to it.
To paraphrase LBJ’s famous remarks about Walter Cronkite and Vietnam…
Palin could say…”If I’ve lost Greta….”
OT, Culture of Corruption edition:
A judge has sentenced a former Justice Department attorney [Robert Coughlin] caught in the influence peddling scandal involving former lobbyist Jack Abramoff to a month at a halfway house and three years of probation.
[...]
Coughlin tearfully admitted he “stupidly” provided assistance to Abramoff’s lobbying team and its clients while accepting free meals and drinks and tickets to sporting events and concerts from Abramoff lobbying partner Kevin Ring.
Coughlin previously pleaded guilty to engaging in a conflict of interest.

I still can’t get over how Giuliani was allowed to bash Obama along with the Fox and Friends crew on the deck of the U.S.S. New York a few weeks ago when it pulled into port on its maiden voyage.
If any news outlet had done something similar to Bush from a navy ship or any other military base or post, you can be sure we wouldn’t hear the end of it.
I don’t think anyone picked up on it though unfortunately.
“I don’t think anyone picked up on it though unfortunately.”
And you’re right that if that had been someone going on about Bush in that place in that way, we’d still be hearing about it.
Obama’s numbers are falling because the media has questioned and nitpicked every breath he’s taken.
Like I said, Dems are falling apart at the seams. We’ll wake up in 4 years with Sarah as Pres, Republicans in the House/Senate in control, and we’ll be looking at each other wondering wtf just happened.
“Obama’s numbers are falling because the media has questioned and nitpicked every breath he’s taken.”
Definite laugher of the week. LOL
“Like I said, Dems are falling apart at the seams. ”
Want to tell me when the Dems weren’t falling apart at the seams?
Seems to me Harry Reid just got 60 votes out of them.
It also seems to me that we’re doomed about 60 times a day online and have been ever since Barack Obama announced he was running.
I wish I’d kept count of how many times we were doomed during the campaign.
I’d ask Liam but he’d take my head off like he did last time I mentioned the doom mongering during the campaign.
*sigh*
I dunno – I may just jump ship and get offline because it is not bringing people together but driving them further apart.
“Palin, furious over the AP’s fact-checking of her book,”
You are still pretending that was fact checking???
Tena — please don’t get offline. Your services are required here.
I guess when I said Dems I didn’t mean elected officials. I was talking more about many in the blogosphere.
Hang in there, Tena–about five times a week I find myself shouting at either the teevee machine or the computer screen “They had eight f*u*c*k*i*n*g YEARS to screw things up–of COURSE he hasn’t fixed it all yet!!!!!”
and then I take a deep breath and something so ridiculous as Loud Obbs comes along talking about making a presidential bid and I realize that, no matter how much we gripe, we’re in a far, far better place now than we have been in recent history. Deep breath time!

Funny how a so-called journalism major couldn’t tell the difference between fact-checking and oppo research.
Teh Stoopid! It BURRRRRNNNNNSSSSS!!!!!!
quarterback the teabagger,
Do you have a gaping head wound that needs attention?
If Sarah Palin declared she was the 14th apostle, you would genuflect and dutifully nod in agreement. Their is no lie that Palin could tell that would be big enough for you to acknowledge. In typical teabagger fashion, you obsequiously express mindless, lockstep fealty to anything which issues forth from Palin, Limbaugh, or FauxNews. You are a obtuse, servile vassal who accepts any and all pronouncements from your teabagger oracles. Additionally, you have the gall to declare that Sarah Palin possesses some kind of intellectual substance.
Your insane rants even have the requisite teabagger vocabulary – talking points – of Limbaugh and FauxNews. Even those rants are purloined and unoriginal. Has an original thought or idea ever invaded that vast empty space between your ears?
@Gasman. that was the best reply ever! too bad those you roast don’t have the cranial capacity to comprehend wit…..
Hi,
I like this article but..
Can someone tell me about Barack Obama..
I know that he is a serious candidate for ‘08, but I would like to know where he stands on the issues. I checked his site but nowhere can I find the info. i am looking for.
so please tell me…
Republican Sarah Palin’s politicization of American soldiers for her own greed and opportunism is surprising how?
It’s what Republicans do.
As for the Fox Republican Propaganda channel’s belated attempt at journalism: Too little, too late.
