CNN President Brushes Off Criticism Of Lou Dobbs’ Continued Floating Of “Birther” Theories

CNN/US president Jonathan Klein is rebuffing the mounting criticism of the network over Lou Dobbs’ continued airing of “birther” theories, saying that Lou runs “his own show” that merely hosts “panels” with birther theorists and asserting that CNN respects viewers enough to let them “make up their own minds.”

Klein, in an interview with me just now, also took a shot at Dobbs’ critics, saying they’re politically motivated: “I understand that people with a partisan point of view from one extreme or another might get annoyed that certain subjects are aired.”

CNN is under mounting pressure to get Dobbs to stop giving airtime to birther theorists and suggesting there’s something to their case, which he’s been doing even though the network has repeatedly debunked the theories. Jon Stewart recently mocked Dobbs for not even watching his own network. Media Matters has blasted CNN for “mainstreaming the fringe.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center called for Dobbs’ firing today, and MoveOn is demanding CNN apologize for Dobbs’ “helping to spread hate and fear.”

“Look, Lou’s his own show, and CNN in general has repeatedly and thoroughly reported on the facts behind this situation,” Klein said to me, adding that Lou had merely hosted “a few conversations with people representing a wide range of opinions.”

Klein said that Dobbs has repeatedly stated that he believes that Obama was born in Hawaii, and has simply been examining the “phenomenon that for some people this won’t go away.”

Asked if CNN is concerned that Dobbs’ repeated granting of airtime to theories the network has conclusively debunked amounts to overkill and could harm CNN’s credibility, Klein brushed off the possibility. “We respect our viewers enough to present them the facts and let them make up their own minds,” he said, adding that what Dobbs does is “his editorial decision to make.”

Klein sent a private memo to Dobbs staffers yesterday saying the birther story is “dead” and questioning its legitimacy, but Dobbs has continued to discuss it on the air, anyway. Klein said the memo wasn’t a sign of concern, however, calling that conclusion “overblown.”

Asked if CNN would take any action if Dobbs continued airing the birther theories, Klein said No: “I think no good journalist would ever say that a particular story will never be covered again. Every day brings new facts, new pegs.”

    Here is the problem, as wacked out as Lou Dobbs is in general he is still gets ratings for CNN. Doesnt’ matter that they could probably hire someone else and get much better ratings. As long as Dobbs keeps his ratings up they are going to keep him. It is what it is. Probably the same way MSNBC still employes Pat Buchanan.

    Don’t waste your time Greg. Klein and his CNN ***holes look at the revenue Dobbs rants bring in. They are third in line after Fox and MSNBC and no amount of fancy accounting gimmicks can get past the fact that CNN does not rule the airwaves. They have tried Foxlite and they are not making headway. Dobbs is an idiot. Do what I do: don’t watch CNN.They’re not worth the trouble. Try BBC America.

    Did anybody see Charles Pierce and David Shuster last night on Olbermann? It was priceless. Pierce went after the MSM, including MSNBC, for giving Liz Cheney and other birthers a forum, and for whipping up controversies for ratings. More Charlie Pierce, please.

    I like Shuster, but man, he gets into a defensive crouch. It’s like you can hear the producer screaming in his ear piece to get the guest to answer the questions the way he’s supposed to. He was also on duty and freaked when Marcy Wheeler called a BJ a BJ. Every since Shuster made that Chelsea Clinton crack (pimped out), he’s been paranoid about losing control and his job.

    Carbar: How about inserting an old fact. His mother’s a US citizen, thus the child is, too despite birth location. So what’s the hoopla about where he was born again? CNN is going to march themselves into 3rd place forever with, Klein’s mindset.

    Here’s what Klein should address. Campbell Brown claimed that CNN was the only cable network that hasn’t taken sides overall like Fox or MSNBC. Campbell says they only report the news. That as clearly bullshit! Now, if they like to present opposing views that’s fine but, when it comes to actual FACTS, there are now views! Either you have the facts or you don’t. The facts are out there but, Dobbs refuses to acknowlede them and move on. I don’t watch CNN because while Campbell Brown claims they are straighrt down the mddle on reporting, the only thing you find in the middle of the road is ROAD KILL! I watch MSNBC. It’s not about sides, it’s about facts and at least with Keith, Rachel and Ed, you get the facts. CNN can’t say the same which is why MSNBC is now KICKING THEIR ASSES! I personally hope he’s attacked by a group of Mexicans since he hates them so much! Dobbs is a pastie faced tub of lard. It’s a fact!

    If CNN feel there’s a need to pander to the minority fringe conservative nutjobs who make up less than 10% of the American people (though represnted by over 90% of the “liberal media”), why not have one show dedicated to the Bush family’s long history with the Bin Laden family which accounted for George Jr’s hands-off policy towards Osama before, during, and after 9.11? Unlike the birther mind-slop, the deep financial ties of Bush Jr & Sr to the Bin Ladens is documented, true, and has never been discussed on television. I’d be willing to bet more people would find that more interesting, and why Osama Bin Laden became a hero throughout the Middle East because of Bush’s impotence as president, than trying to explain to mental midgets that Hawaii isn’t a foriegn country.

He is still questioning the Obama birth record (on July 20), when in his absence, Kitty Pilgrim presented the objective data and visual that completely debunks this theory. Lou Dobbs wants Obama to fail, and to do that,he will lie, obfuscate, present unfounded and one-sided information, and offer snide,defaming remarks at every turn. CNN just lost a fairly loyal viewer. Clearly, I am wasting my time there. Where is journalism in the rush to make money?

    Since when did media watchers become so zealous in protecting a serving president (with no good reason)? I thought journalism is about asking tough questions. I think Lou Doobs (LD) figures the same. I don’t know where Obama was born but I can’t figure why some people are so quick to try and clamp up anyone that doesn’t tote the “party” line. Supposed liberals non-the-less! If anything this incident shows that CNN is composed of independent journalists and THEY run the show, nothing bad for journalism in that. Unless someone can point to some tangible-repeated foolishness of Doobs on this issue I can’t see how a reasonable seeker of FACTS can fault him for asking questions. Even if some of these question have been answered, some have not, and it is important to keep asking them and for a site called “who runs gov” to encourage asking them.

    Lou Dobbs has zero credibility and hasn’t for a long time. CNN should have addressed the fact that Dobbs attended a racist conference and was photographed with a box of Obama Waffles last summer. Hopefully, Stewart and Colbert will keep up the pressure and what happened to Jim Cramer will happen to Lou Dobbs.

    This is transparently simple.

    Lou Dobbs was a great business news anchor. Then he was removed and replaced by a blonde whose previous experience was color commentary on the NBA.

    When they got him back in a prime role, his ratings did not follow him, and are languishing.

    So he employs the FOX News strategy and starts mouthing RusHannity bowel movements.

    That gets back some viewers.

    So, CNN can fire him, which is what Dobbs wants so that he move over to FOX, since FOX, while good are peddling right-wing infomercials as news, they suck at their business news.

    I used to enjoy watching Lou Dobbs. I felt he was pretty much straight down the middle, expect for his views on immigration. That was about 2 year ago. Now I find Dobbs unwatchable. He is consistently hostile towards President Obama (almost like watching Fox) and this latest obsession with Obama’s being born outside the USA really disqualifies Dobbs (in my mind) from being a serious journalist. CNN has a real problem. I want CNN to continue to have high journalistic standards, and hope they will take action. Meanwhile, Anderson Cooper’s show is excellent, a serious journalist who doesn’t pander. I hope that CNN ultimately replaces Dobb’s with someone with the courage of Cooper to be objective. I wonder if Ted Turner is tempted to take a stand against Dobbs? Perhaps he would privately with CNN executives. I would guess that Dobbs will be out when his contract expires, if not before.

    I knew this birther stuff was coming because it starts on 3rd tier talk radio. Brian Sussman at KSFO has been all over this for months. Today WorldNetDaily had a HILARIOUS article explaining that the TWO newspaper accounts in Hawaiian papers weren’t really proof.

    You know I think that we need to investigate more Bush era crimes just so they can have something to whine about that is also useful for us to know. I think that it is interesting that when we investigated George Bush and TANG where there was REAL data covered up they weren’t so hot for “the truth!” they destroyed Dan Rather. (By the way Rather won his bid to get emails from the CBS hirer ups about their role in shutting his story down. It will be fun to read and then you will see just how the media protected Bush from real reporting.)

    I think this is the new hieght of hypocrisy I have seen in my lifetime. Most of the country is still living in a delusion that George Bush was an evil dictator who started wars BECAUSE the media “mainstreamed the fringe”. None of that is true, but most still believe it.

    OddJob: The US did not commit any “war crimes”. You are the “lunatic fringe” mentioned in the article. There was also no torture.     Oh, and the reason so many believe that Obama was not born in the US is because they insist they have his original birth certificate, but refuse to show it. It is simple human nature. It is like me insisting I have a gold coin in my hand, but refusing to show it too you. There is no reason for me to not show it, so my refusal to show it breeds suspicion than I am lying. It’s the same exact thing. They can sing and dance all they want, but until they show the original birth certificate that they claim to have… most will rightly not believe that it exists. If it did, they would simply produce it and end all debate. Instead there is an endless song and dance on the issue. It is right, correct by tghe rules of logic, to suspect that Obama was not born in the US because of this. People who think this are not “fringe” or “crazy”, it is a perfectly reasonable (and even correct) position when faced with “It’s true, I can prove it, but refuse to show that proof when there is no reason to hide it.”

    I know I will not beleive Obama was born in the US until I see that original birth certitifcate that is claimed to exist. There is no reason not to show it, unless there is something to hide. Therfore, there must be something to hide, or they would take the simple action of showing it and instantly ending all debate. Logically, it is correct to lean towards the belief that Obama was not born in the US under these circumstances. Anything else is song and dance, only producing the original birth certificate that they insist exsists, but they refuse to show for some reason, will this question ever be answered.

    As long as they refuse to produce this simple evidence, which they say they have, then an intelligent person must assume that evidence either does not actually exist or proves that he was not born in the US. Simple logic dictates this position.

    If there is nothing to hide, why can’t we see the original birth certificate? A logical question, and the source of this entire controversy.

    Until I see this proof that they insist exists but refuse to produce, I can only logically conclude that said evidence does not actually exist, or proves that he was not born in the US.

    McCain is not an issue because he was born on a US military base. That automatically makes you a “natural born US citizen”. There is no question of McCain’s citizenship. There is a question as to Obama’s, and the best answer anyone can get is “we have the original birth certificate to prove it, but we won’t show it to anyone”. It doesn’t take a genious to figure this one out…he either one was not born here or two, he lied on his foreign status to get scholarships he wasn’t eligible for, or he was a foreign national and he can’t let anyone see that. He also traveled to Pakistan during a time where American’s could not travel there. So let’s see his passport…all in all, present the documentation and put an end to the debate once and for all. Perhaps too many people are afraid of Biden as president…who knows, either way, he needs to stop spitting on our constitution and do what is right for once in his life.

    I used to manage HUD housing, part of the requirement for getting low income housing was a certified copy of the birth certificate for everyone in the household.Cost about $25.00 can be ordered on line from any department of vital statistics.Not a big deal, we sent it to screeners and if everything came back good, we could rent you a low income apt. Now if low income Americans can produce a viable birth certificate to rent low income housing, how much more so should someone produce a “vialble” birth certificate for the property located at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave? It will stand as a question until it is addressed.
    Right now we have military personnel challenging the authority of the Commander and Chief. Call them “ring wing extremist” if you will but the ramifications of refusing to provide a simply obtained document is out of control.

    Many comments here imply that it is only the Republicans that are fringe, have you taken a look at the Democrats and the legislation that is being passed lately? What is deifferent about the agenda between Bush and Obama? We still are not of Iraq, the White House is full of lobbiest, it may be easy to say we will not raise taxes but not so easy to say we have not implimented so many more Federal requirements that the states have to raise taxes. OOOPS not the Feds problem now is it? Because they are not raising taxes.

    My american wife was born in South America, she pulled up all the paperwork to compare what her parents got and what the real birth records said. When all was said and done, what Obama is showing is incomplete. A certificate of birth is not the actual birth record . . . something is being hidden and Obama is not coming clean.

Please dont talk about health care when you know nothing about it. If you want to reduce Heath care costs, the days of the private insurer have to end. The insurance company takes the insured payers money, the doctors money, and then dictates to the doctors how much they will get payed, as well as if your procedure is even necessary ( i am so glad that a corperate money man knows more about what is right for me and my familys’ health than my doctor!)
    It took many years for the government to put us in this recession ( you know 3 wars running at the same time for 8 years does’nt help either), and all you want to do is blame the guy who is trying to do anything to fix it ( the republican answer has always been ” just let us keep doing what got us into this mess, and it will all work out fine”!) Oh, and by the way, I do own my own business, so stoip talking about me like you know my situation. Also, I would not use the race card if it was not true. If you are not a happy uncle tom in this country, the repubs think you are ghetto trash. We have HUNDREDS of years of politicaly backed racism in this country, and the rich white men of the republican party have been doing everything in there power to keep it that way.     The deductible for the $473 family plan (the lowest in my area) is $3,000. That puts the annual cost at just over $8,600 annually. I make a little more than $1,800 a month so it’s just about 40% of my income.

    As far as laptops and internet access, we have things in our area called schools. They may be a rare thing in your area, but I pay to go to one so I get access.

    Check your facts yourself. Bush gave the billions to corporations. Obama was elected in November and took office in January. The Billions were given away by the Bush administration. It was the Bush administration that got the Chrysler bailout/bankruptcy ball rolling last October.

    And you need to check a map once in awhile. The Fenton plant transferred the truck manufacturing to Warren Michigan. Minivan production stopped last October while Bush was president. Warren Michigan by the way is in the US, not Mexico. Chrysler is closing plants. And they are planning on building cars in Mexico, but there is speculation that they will be Fiats.

    Having dealt with various bureaucracies in the past (DMV, SSA, city, county, and state agencies, schools, hospitals, etc.) I would say someone (probably a PR person or an assistant) gave an easy and convenient answer in 2008 when it didn’t seem to matter all that much and the real answer is that it was destroyed in 2001.

    The question may come down to the speakers definition of an ORIGINAL birth certificate. Are newly generated ORIGINAL birth certificates in Hawaii paperless? If they are, what is the difference between an official scanning one in electronically and an official generating one electronically? From a certain point of view the ORIGINAL could have been destroyed in 2001 and still verified in 2008.

    I think if you do a reality check on what Medicare pays hospitals and doctors now most Americans would be surprised. My wife had stomach pain required 4 tests to isolate problem (ovaries, colon, bladder, gallblader). Medicare paid the doctors and hosiptal 14.18% of the bills for tests (cost $3772.84 vs Medicare payment of $534.86). News media and AARP needs to look into what Medicare pays to come up with legitimate costs not on what some politician says they should be paying or cutting. After all their track record is nothing I’m proud of as an American. By the way she had a bad gallblader which was remove 5 weeks ago and I have not received the copy of the bill from Medicare.

    Folks, my mother was born in Mississippi. She does not have a “live” birth certificate, as defined by some of the “birthers”. Does this mean that she is not an American? My first cousins were born overseas because their father was stationed there. Are they Americans? Do the “birthers” have any evidence that President Obama was born in Kenya? If so, let’s put the burden on them to produce the evidence. Both of the President’s parents were residing in Hawaii at the time of his birth. Do the “birthers” have any evidence whatsoever that the parents were living in Kenya instead? Both were students at the University of Hawaii. The President’s birth certificate has been made public, but the “birthers” and their fellow conspiracy theorists will continue to believe that he is not a citizen. This photo from the AP says Lolo is his father and it says he is an Indonesian citizen. When did he renounce that citizenship? Obama claims the school made THREE errors on this form. I say his ‘word’ is not enough. For me, I don’t buy that a bit. The fact that he was allowed to attend public school there speaks to it’s VALIDITY. I shouldn’t endure ridicule for these questions.     I have none. But it isn’t definitive–it doesn’t state where he was born, just where he lived. There are alot of contradictory facts surrounding this issue. In fact the ‘born in Kenya’ theory holds taht he resided in Hawaii. No one disputes that. And most don’t dispute he’s an American–they dispute whether he is Natural Born. It would take two American parents to pass that status on to him.

    It’s just another reason why I think he should be eager to answer questions.

    I did hear the audio of Sarah Obama (his grandmother) say that she attended his birth in Kenya. If the translation is legitimate–I would believe her any day. I can’t imagine any place more dishonest than this country.

    But then again, there may be a reason that Obama asked her to say that…and of course other explanations, too. Why is it so wrong to wonder?

    Having dealt with various bureaucracies in the past (DMV, SSA, city, county, and state agencies, schools, hospitals, etc.) I would say someone (probably a PR person or an assistant) gave an easy and convenient answer in 2008 when it didn’t seem to matter all that much and the real answer is that it was destroyed in 2001.

    The question may come down to the speakers definition of an ORIGINAL birth certificate. Are newly generated ORIGINAL birth certificates in Hawaii paperless? If they are, what is the difference between an official scanning one in electronically and an official generating one electronically? From a certain point of view the ORIGINAL could have been destroyed in 2001 and still verified in 2008.

    I think if you do a reality check on what Medicare pays hospitals and doctors now most Americans would be surprised. My wife had stomach pain required 4 tests to isolate problem (ovaries, colon, bladder, gallblader). Medicare paid the doctors and hosiptal 14.18% of the bills for tests (cost $3772.84 vs Medicare payment of $534.86). News media and AARP needs to look into what Medicare pays to come up with legitimate costs not on what some politician says they should be paying or cutting. After all their track record is nothing I’m proud of as an American. By the way she had a bad gallblader which was remove 5 weeks ago and I have not received the copy of the bill from Medicare.

    Folks, my mother was born in Mississippi. She does not have a “live” birth certificate, as defined by some of the “birthers”. Does this mean that she is not an American? My first cousins were born overseas because their father was stationed there. Are they Americans? Do the “birthers” have any evidence that President Obama was born in Kenya? If so, let’s put the burden on them to produce the evidence. Both of the President’s parents were residing in Hawaii at the time of his birth. Do the “birthers” have any evidence whatsoever that the parents were living in Kenya instead? Both were students at the University of Hawaii. The President’s birth certificate has been made public, but the “birthers” and their fellow conspiracy theorists will continue to believe that he is not a citizen.     (lala) this question is generally not if he is “American’. It’s if he’s natural born.

    Personally, I question if he’s an American or an Indonesian. His name was Barry Soetoro, by his own admission. Generally, that would mean he was likely adopted by Lolo if he took his last name. This photo from the AP says Lolo is his father and it says he is an Indonesian citizen. When did he renounce that citizenship? Obama claims the school made THREE errors on this form. I say his ‘word’ is not enough. For me, I don’t buy that a bit. The fact that he was allowed to attend public school there speaks to it’s VALIDITY. I shouldn’t endure ridicule for these questions. No one should. (There are translations on the web if you choose to even consider my argument.)

    so lets get this right… punish the guy who does it right because other larger employers got it wrong. corporations dont pay any taxes (wish I could figure that one out for my $700 million revenue stream, even my Ivy League CPA’s cant get there, maybe you can share how that is happening exactly), the current economic cycle is the fault of the Republicans (I think both parties share fault but you seem to have some inside info here), all white wealthy guy’s are racists unless they are democrats, Pelosi and Reid CAN fix the health insurance issues (regardless of the fact that they haven’t during the past 15 yrs they have been in Washington), we should trust congress more than doctors with our health care, I dont know anything about health care (good one since I have both seem my mother survive cancer in the US system and my aunt die from the same desease over in England despite having been diagnosed as the same stage. not to mention I under right a large portion of our plan through Health Savings Account for my employees), I am blaming President Obama for all the toubles (I went back a read again: I did not see that I said that becuase I dont blame just him… I just said he’s not helping me, which is what you said he is doing)and the one I love the best: becuase there are racists in this world then it’s ok for our President to berate a white Officer and imply that he is a racists when the actual facts, his fellow black officers and now even the guy he arrested say that’s not the case… and he (the President) doesn’t owe the officer an apology because of 1000’s of years of racism around the world… are you kidding.. just how does your theory advance anything but racism… oh, I forgot, you too are a business man… good luck with that over the long term… you are a waist of time…I am done…

    I agree that this is a moot issue. Under te Naturalization Act of 1790, even if President Obama had been born in Kenya, he still would be considered a natural born citizen of the US because his mother was a citizen and his father was a resident of the US. The fact is that he was born in Hawaii, which is a state. It is difficult for some “birthers” to accept that an African American was elected president of the USA. They would rather believe that he is an outsider or “not like us”. The story about the President being an Indonesian is a big joke. President Obama was a kid who was dragged off to Indonesia when he was six years old. He was never adopted by his stepfather and he never renounced his citizenship as an American. As for his step-grandmother being present at his birth, how do you know she did not visit Hawaii for that purpose? This thing is getting more and more bizarre. By the way, how many “birthers” have seen George Bush’s live birth certificate?

    The Constitution requires that the president be a “natural-born citizen” of the USA. Title 8, Section 1401 of the US Code categorizes who belongs to this group of citizens. The group includes “Any one born outside the United States, if one parent is an alien and as long as the other parent is a citizen of the U.S. who lived in the U.S. for at least five years (with military and diplomatic service included in this time)”. Therefore since there has never been any question about his mother qualifying as one of these parents, it is totally moot whether his father was an alien or a resident, and where she gave birth to Barak Obama, whether in Hawaii, Indonesia, Kenya, or the moon, is also completely moot.

    That is no doubt why the complaints filed in federal courts before Obama’s inauguration were all dismissed. Surely you don’t think Chief Justice Roberts would have participated in the inauguration if there was a legitimate question as to whether Obama was qualified to be president?

    If you do, I feel sorry for you.

    I don’t believe any law regarding citizenship mentions “natural born” citizen except the Constitution.

    Therefore, I do not believe the point is moot. It would probably take a Supreme Court decision to decide if a foreign born citizen was a “natural born” citizen.

    The constitution requires one to be a “natural born citizen” or a citizen at the time of adoption of the Constitution to be President. Natural born at time of adoption of the Constitution most likely meant one has to be born within the borders of the United States.

    Who is a natural-born citizen? Who, in other words, is a citizen at birth, such that that person can be a President someday?

    The 14th Amendment defines citizenship this way: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.” But even this does not get specific enough. As usual, the Constitution provides the framework for the law, but it is the law that fills in the gaps.

    Currently, Title 8 of the U.S. Code fills in those gaps. Section 1401 defines the following as people who are “citizens of the United States at birth:”

    Anyone born inside the United States *
    Any Indian or Eskimo born in the United States, provided being a citizen of the U.S. does not impair the person’s status as a citizen of the tribe
    Any one born outside the United States, both of whose parents are citizens of the U.S., as long as one parent has lived in the U.S.
    Any one born outside the United States, if one parent is a citizen and lived in the U.S. for at least one year and the other parent is a U.S. national
    Any one born in a U.S. possession, if one parent is a citizen and lived in the U.S. for at least one year
    Any one found in the U.S. under the age of five, whose parentage cannot be determined, as long as proof of non-citizenship is not provided by age 21
    Any one born outside the United States, if one parent is an alien and as long as the other parent is a citizen of the U.S. who lived in the U.S. for at least five years (with military and diplomatic service included in this time)
    A final, historical condition: a person born before 5/24/1934 of an alien father and a U.S. citizen mother who has lived in the U.S.

    I can beat that – I was born in Honolulu, like Obama, but Hawaii was still a territory when I was born so I wasn’t born in the US. But I have never had any problem getting a passport or a Social Security number or any other things that come with citizenship.

    And I wasn’t born in a state. Obama was.

    You know who else wasn’t born in the US? John McCain. He was born in Panama and how that makes him more of a citizen than Obama, I’ve yet to hear from the nutcases who are howling about Obama’s citizenship.

    The question to me is not the definition of citizen but natural born citizen. I’d read Section 8 Section 401 of the U.S. Code. Maybe it requires me to understand what the definition of is is? My contention is the definition of natural born meant (at the time of adoption of the Constitution) one was born in the USA.

    This is what was the Naturalization Act of 1790 stated:

    “And the children of citizens of the United States that may be born beyond Sea, or out of the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural born Citizens”.

    From that statement, it seems evident to me that Congress was including foreign born citizens as “natural born”. I believe that supports my argument that natural born citizens as stated in the Constitution means born in the USA.

    However,the Naturalization Act of 1795 removed “natural born” and repealed the Nationalization Act of 1790. That seems to me they excluded foreign born from being natural born.

    If you will show me subsequent law to the Constitution where “natural born citizen” is defined, then I could be persuaded.

    If one running for President was challenged in court on this issue, it would most likely take a decision by the Supreme Court to define “natural born citizen.

    I believe Obama was born in the USA. I just don’t accept the argument that if he was born in Kenya, he would be eligible to be President.

    John McCain’s eligibility was questioned in the blogosphere and reported on NBC and other TV outlets because he was born in the Panama Canal Zone. In my opinion, McCain was ineligible.

    The following was in an article by Pete Williams of NBC:

    “In 1964, the Supreme Court seemed to say, without deciding, that “natural born” meant born inside the United States. In an opinion on an unrelated issue, the court observed, “The rights of citizenship of the native born and of the naturalized person are of the same dignity and are coextensive. The only difference drawn by the Constitution is that only the ‘natural born’ citizen is eligible to be President.” But that language is not legally binding, and the Supreme Court has never ruled on what “natural born” means.”

    Oddjob also says:

    “That is no doubt why the complaints filed in federal courts before Obama’s inauguration were all dismissed.”

    Some courts declined to render judgment due to lack of jurisdiction. Some cases were dismissed because of the plaintiff’s lack of standing.

    Very often when Lou has a controversial story on his show he brings in people on both sides of the issue. For example when he talks about illegal immigration he often has the President of La Raza present the illegal alien’s point of view. What other news or commentary shows allow that? At least Lou hasn’t had any Obama Kool-Aid like almost all the rest of the media has. Things like “I feel a tingle up my leg, and “oh look he killed that fly”, give me a break. When has the Whitehouse press corp last asked him a tough question.

    Regarding Obama’s “birth certificate”, it is not a birth certificate as far as I’m concerned without a physician’s name and signature or hospital on it. If you don’t think Obama has something to hide, here are the other records he refuses to release: his kindergarten records, his Punahou school records, his Occidental College records, his Columbia University records, his Columbia thesis, his Harvard Law School records, his Harvard Law Review articles, his scholarly articles from the University of Chicago, his passport, his medical records, his files from his years as an Illinois state senator, his Illinois State Bar Association records, any baptism records, and his adoption records.

    His college records might show something like him having a scholarship as a citizen of another country, so maybe he isn’t a natural born citizen of the US as is required to be president of this country. There must be some logical reason for Obama to fight the release of his birth certificate. He has spent hundreds of thousands fighting this in many court cases.

    Regarding the tone of many of the messages on this board, I truly hope that most liberals don’t carry around this level of vitriol because otherwise this country is in even more trouble than I think it is.

    My simple request was for your to CITE the sources–ie web links, article page numbers, etc.–from the sources that you reference where you see contradiction. This is the easiest, clearest way to present your position, as it allows others to assess the validity of both the contention as well as the sources.

    So far, I’ve yet to see you cite your sources. The one link that you’ve given pertains to something different than your original claim that I asked you about.

    People seeking truth don’t fear added (reliable)information; that’s why I’m asking for where you got your info. Your claim is that CNN has said one thing, and that “obots and snopes” have said another mutually exclusive thing. Please make it easy on us and put these documents “side by side” so to speak.

    Forgive me, but as a grad student, I like citations that I can check myself. Weblinks. Articles page numbers. I’m willing to consider a position if you’re willing to “show your work.”

    I used to think Lou Dobbs had some good sense, and listened to him frequently. This “birther” issue is so ridiculous, I can’t stand to watch his program anymore. If CNN wants to shift to the far right, that’s their business, but Lou Dobbs no longer seems to be an asset, so far as I’m concerned. I used to overlook what I felt was a pompous and arrogant personality, as Lou Dobbs seemed to know what he was talking about. Now, I see an unwillingness to just back off from this issue. If President Obama can admit making mistakes, why can’t Dobbs?
