Bill O’Reilly To Address Critics Tonight Over Murder Of Doctor

Bill O’Reilly — who’s taking a beating for the jihad he’s waged against George Tiller, the doctor who performed late-term abortions and was gunned down yesterday — will address the killing and the criticism directed at him on his show tonight, a Fox spokesperson confirms to me.

O’Reilly has attacked Tiller in dozens of episodes, frequently referring to him as “Tiller the Baby Killer,” Salon reports. After the news spread of Tiller’s murder yesterday, multiple critics fingered O’Reilly for fomenting a hate campaign against him.

I asked Fox spokesperson Richard White if O’Reilly had a response to the criticism. “Mr. O’Reilly will be addressing the issue/topic on tonight’s show,” White answered.

That’s going to be some must-watch TV. Tune in tonight at 8:00 P.M.

You know what I hope someone blogs about it, because I’ve never watched Mr O’Reilly’s show, and I ain’t gonna start just to see him use Dr Tiller’s death as a ratings stunt, because this is what this is. Why put out “must see tv” bulliten to address it.

Faux News and Mr O’Reilly are full of s*&^!

Tune in tonight? Give me a break. It’s Bill O’Reilly.

  3. mike from Arlington | June 1st, 2009 at 10:32 am

Will he do the honorable thing and resign? It would indeed be the only just thing to do at this point in the very least.

  4. Mellissa | June 1st, 2009 at 10:50 am

Tune in to hear him somehow justify what happened? To hear him say that his whacked-out, nut-job followers have a mind of their owns and he is simply “an entertainer” (not a journalist)? No thanks.

  5. Blessed_Truth | June 1st, 2009 at 10:54 am

Tune in to O’Reilly?? I’ll pass on that. I will simply watch a clip online of his BS Fest. Too many “bad vibes” come through the tv when I have it tuned into Fox News. My dog howls, the cat hides, pics fall off the wall-its pure evil I tell ya. LOL EVAL..and yes I agree- its simply a ratings stunt

  6. sgwhiteinfla | June 1st, 2009 at 10:57 am

I don’t think he meant literally tune in. Basically be aware of whats coming tonight as you can bet it will be blogged about at length and probably taken apart by KO and Rachel Maddow tomorrow. I will probably be blogging about it too but I won’t watch it on Tee Vee. I will just wait for mediamatters or firedoglake or thinkprogress to post a clip of it on youtube and go from there.

If he doesn’t call this attack terrorism, he’s condoning it.

Free speech does not mean you can say any damn thing you want to and Bill O’Reilly, Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh NEED TO BE STOPPED RIGHT NOW.

  11. brad | June 1st, 2009 at 11:42 am

I believe the best way to show displeasure in this case is to specificially NOT tune in to Bill O’Reilley’s show tonight and to make sure FOX News knows that.

Ha ha ha, as if anyone in the media would care. They can’t even be bothered to describe Tiller as a Doctor — watch CNN — you’d think Tiller’s title was “Abortion Provider”. O’Reilley’s rhetoric is certainly inflammatory, but the other networks are guilty, too.

  12. Darius | June 1st, 2009 at 12:02 pm

Come on, you know what he’s going to say. He’ll condemn the murder of Tiller, disavow any responsibility (despite the hate campaign he waged against the doctor), and probably take a shot at the “loony left” for drawing attention to all those things he said. It’s a no-brainer.

  13. Kyle Michel Sullivan | June 1st, 2009 at 12:34 pm

Billy Boy’s playing to his audience, most of whom probably agree with Tiller’s assassination, so what he says is unimportant. What should be constantly driven home is — if he was Islamic, he’d be in Guantanamo being waterboarded by people who wanted to know who else was agitating for the murder of American citizens. But because he’s a rich white male, he’ll get a pass for what could legally be called “solicitation for murder.” And ain’t that the way this country goes?

We seem to be of one mind here. The first poster, dnap, nailed it and no one refuted him/her. Neither will I. One of the under discussed problems with the nation is talk radio. It is absolutely uncontrolled…in any form, shape or manner. I believe in the First Amendment, absolutely but one should not be allowed to lie about someone else and most certainly, lies should not be tolerated on a program that presents itself as news and is run by a man who claims to be a journalist. Perhaps we need a law like the one in Great Britain that allows one to sue under circumstances where he/she has been lied about. I live in Kansas, not far from where this nut case was captured. I know, from listening to a clip on O’Reilly’s protrayal of Tiller, that O’Reilly lied and he did it in an inflammatory manner. He needs to be stopped, as does Limbaugh and Hannity and all the rest of them. Then we can stop our guys, too.

  16. lamh31 | June 1st, 2009 at 01:07 pm

Does anyone else notice how there seems to be some sort of media silence on what happened this weekend?

I saw a short segment on MSNBC today, and other than 1 line on Moring Schmoe, no one even mentioned it.

I know the big news is the GM bankruptcy, but it seems like they are specifically trying talk about his murder! Am I crazy, or has anyone else noticed.

Sadly, it would take another such assassination for the media to give a damn I guess.

  17. Jen | June 1st, 2009 at 01:48 pm

I see no need to tune in to watch him say the shooter acted alone and he, Bill O’Reilly bears no responsibility and the leftists who hate him can shove it, etc…

Besides, mediamatters and Huffpo will have a synopsis.

  18. Won't watch O'Failure | June 1st, 2009 at 02:24 pm

I’ve never watched this guy’s show. OK, I’ve never watched anything on FAUX but all I know about this O’Rielly guy is that he’s a closeted homosexual who likes to stick things up his behind while having phone ***. I also know he can’t do his show without reading it, can’t defend himself against most critics, and turns off people mics when they get the best of him. Why would anybody watch him? Even if you live in a trailer and married your cousin like 99.9% of his viewers, why would you watch this guy?! Hate TV was so Dumbya-era.

Wow… The ignorance on this blog is breathtaking!! Thank God the commenters on this blog will never be in positions of power, because if so, we are all in big trouble!! All of you who get your information from huffpost or media matters, you need to reevaluate where your life took a wrong turn and maybe change you ways before its too late and you end up like that despicable Tiller character.

  22. Rick Massimo | June 1st, 2009 at 02:50 pm

Hey Gene, thanks for making terrorist threats! Fortunately, I learned from our last few presidents never to knuckle under to terrorists, so I’ll continue to talk about the right-wing terrorism that claimed another victim yesterday, one who broke no laws at any point in his work.

As for BillO, a heearty handshake to every one of you (even you, terrorist Gene) if his “response” consists of anything but “STFU.”

  23. Jennifer | June 1st, 2009 at 02:52 pm

Gene, bite me. You’re a fundy *******, so you share in the blame for Tiller’s death, also, you despicable character.

    You ARE the devil.

  24. aquinas | June 1st, 2009 at 02:57 pm

Time to boycott the advertisers of Oreilly, Fox News, Rush, Hannity, and any of these apologists for right-wing terrorism. Watch Oreilly all you want, just tell his advertisers not one more cent until they break all ties and do no business with terrorists like oreilly.

  25. Chris | June 1st, 2009 at 04:19 pm

Actually, this is the second right wing gunmen with ties to O’Reilly…remember this http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2008/Jul/28/church-shooting-police-find-manifesto-suspects-car/

  26. silus dogood | June 1st, 2009 at 05:16 pm

oh yea, go ahead leftys take your shots, but the truth is,the murderer was NOT a member of any organization, right or centrist. blame bill oreilly? wake up and smell the coffee, you hate mongering people.
this was a bad thing, but to blame oreilly? you might as well blame me too even though i was thousand miles away, because i was no fan of the man who with the help and support of sebelious, killed in very late term babies, and who was there to cry out for these infants??were you there? no,only GOD cried out for them. to celebrate this mans death would be wrong, but just because he attended church, and made good public appearances, did in no way, make him more than what he was,but then again, who are we to say anything, you already know it all.

Why does Fox still have a license to broadcast?

  28. Eyeopener | June 2nd, 2009 at 03:43 am

Should Fox News and Bill O’reiley be sue over the Doctor’s Death? because United states is a country that govern by law, the doctor conducted his work according to the law of United america. I believe there is a legimate case against Fox News and Bill O’reilley for insignating the doctor’s Death. Wall street schemer does a lot of bad things but if a news network or a journalist was consistently calling for the death of these CEO’s and some disgraunted individual ended up shooting them…the journalist and the news network must be liable for the death. Because free speech does not you can use your journalist batch and calling for the death of law biding citizen. it is not only bill O’reiley…the FCC needs to do its jobs and making that these people are responsible for their action. which is more dangerous? janet Jackson shown her *** at a suporbowl game or O’reilley calling for the Doctor’s Death?

  29. silus dogood | June 2nd, 2009 at 06:54 am

i allmos feel sorry for our country, if this is the kind of intelligence our schools are producing.
bill oreilly certainly has good points on a lot of subjects,so why not try to stiffle his opinion if it doesnt coincide with your own. dont believe in free speech? well how about this: tiller was, in my opinion,a mass murderer, and i feel bad that it took something like this to stop him,but i am glad he is stopped. so blame his death on whoever you want, but to charge every american with murder who disagrees with you? over half of america would be in jail, because over half of americans believe in GOD. this point could be better argued by the sixty thousand dead babys, and im sure tiller is getting his chance to meet them face to face today, and im sure all who agree with their death will also have to look at them when their turn comes,so take your best shots at oreilly, and at me while you can.

If you don’t agree with him, just SHUT THE F’ UP!

  31. Caitlin | June 4th, 2009 at 06:50 pm

    Silas,
If your post is an example of what the schools are producing, I feel sorry for this country too! Take note, it’s:
“almost” not “allmos” and “babies” not “babys”.
If you don’t know when to use apostrophes then perhaps you shouldn’t use contractions.
Also, please point out where anyone has posted that a person should be charged with murder if they disagree with another?
I am assuming that since you state “over half of americans believe in GOD” that you consider yourself a Christian? A Christian is a follower of Christ, correct? Please note where in the New Testement that Jesus makes any sort of comment on abortion, because I haven’t been able to find any. I would think that if it was something important, than he would have mentioned sometime.

  32. Patrick | June 7th, 2009 at 07:25 pm

A few O’Reilly supporters have posted thus far, but I don’t believe they handled it the correct way. I happen to be a fan of the Factor, and believe it’s irresponsible to claim O’Reilly was knowingly and willfully inciting violence against Doctor Tiller. Some may disagree with how he addressed the issue, or his wording, but in the end that’s not what matters. He is a partisan journalist, and purports to be nothing less. Thus, he will state his opinion on a matter. He can’t be held responsible for the reprehensible actions of an obviously mentally troubled individual. Unless you’d have me believe that literally every conservative in America regularly tunes into his show daily. Unless that’s true, which if we are all intelligent individuals we know it isn’t, he can’t be seen as some mastermind, trying to incite all the mentally deranged individuals that happen to be against abortion.

I am strongly against abortion as a principle, yet watching his show wouldn’t give me the impression he was asking me to kill this man. It would lead me to believe he wanted me to see this man for the morality lacking individual that he is, but nothing more. Lastly, to call it a Jihad on Tiller? Come now, for a political ideology that professes to be against all racial profiling, why? Merely to play to your anti-Bush leanings.

    Sincerely,
    A Rational Conservative
