There are athletes who have excelled in the STEM and STEM-related fields among the numerous sports stars who delayed their degrees or have yet to finish. We profile five here of both stripes.

New York Knicks guard Jeremy Lin has a degree in economics from Harvard. Often, but not always, excellence in sports is seen as precluding excellence in academics, particularly in the science, math, technology and engineering fields. While Lin is not a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) graduate, the mathematics requirements for an undergraduate degree in economics could present an opportunity for STEM advocates interested in touting him as the face of both academic and athletic prowess.
