Unions Air First Ad Hitting Democrat Arlen Specter
In another sign that labor is serious about backing a 2010 primary challenger to newly-minted Democrat Arlen Specter, a coalition of unions is going up on the air in Pennsylvania with a statewide ad demanding that he back the Employee Free Choice Act, labor’s top priority.
A source sends over the spot, which is the first since his party switch:
The ad, which is paid for by the labor-backed American Rights at Work, makes the threat of a primary challenge pretty explicit.
“Where will Specter stand?” it asks. “With Obama, Biden, and the working families of Pennsylvania…Or with greedy CEOs, and Big Business lobbyists?”
“Call and Tell Specter Pennsylvania’s for him,” it concludes, “As long as he’s for the Employee Free Choice Act.”

That ad was AWESOME. They finally did what needs to be done to win in the court of public opinion. They made it a fight between the little guy and Wall Street and for emphasized effect they used the image of a very popular president to help draw the distinction. Now the conversation is if he is against EFCA he is against President Obama and his constituents and for greedy Wall Street ********. Whoever put that together deserves props. Did you notice that they didn’t even use the word “union”? D@mn that was masterful.
SG — if you’re complimenting an ad or a message it has to be good.

I was about to say it was just good until I watched it again and confirmed that they never used the word “union”. To me that makes it GREAT. I bet it actually shapes some opinions on the matter too. They should make more ads mirroring that one and send it around to the states of all of the wavering ConservaDems. Obviously it would have been better to have that kind of ad out from the get go but better late than never.
Specter is toast in 2010 and Dems better realize it soon!

If Specter is toast in 2010 it will be because he loses to another Dem in a primary. Why should that be a concern for Dems?
Hang on – what happened? I thought Specter had caved on Employee Free Choice Act? I thought he’d agreed to vote for it.

No that was Jane Hamsher’s irresponsible writing at the HuffPo
“o that was Jane Hamsher’s irresponsible writing at the HuffPo”
O. I missed that somehow – thanks. Hmm, Jane being irresponsible? Gee that’s unusual.
Not. There are people on the internet who do tend to shoot off their mouths. At least I confine my mouth shooting to comments.
