NRCC To Tedisco: We’re Gonna Keep Running Our Ads, Whether You Like It Or Not

This one is getting interesting. As I noted below, James Tedisco — the Republican candidate in the nationally-watched race for the recently-vacated House seat in New York’s 20th District — is saying that he wants the national GOP to stop running ads attacking his Dem opponent, Scott Murphy.

The race has emerged as a key opportunity for national Republicans to score a big victory and get some mojo back.

But despite Tedisco’s request, the National Republican Congressional Committee is saying, No dice, we’re gonna keep running the ads, anyway. NRCC spokesperson Ken Spain emails:

“The NRCC has an obligation to hold Scott Murphy accountable for the past he is trying to hide as a Wall Street executive whose actions represent everything that has gone wrong with our economy. We have no plans to shirk our responsibilities.”

The rub here is that the NRCC ads may be hurting Tedisco. A recent Siena College poll found that Tedisco commercials made 12% more likely to back him, and 28% less likely.

While it’s unclear whether the ads that are backfiring are the Tedesco campaign’s or the NRCC’s, it’s very possible that the national GOP’s spots are doing the damage, Siena pollster Steven Greenberg tells me. “It is certainly plausible that the NRCC commercials are the ones that are turning off voters,” Greenberg says.

I feel like Abraham put some bleechers in the sun out on Highway 61 for us to watch this beautiful, bloody GOP war.

That’s amazing. The NRCC is the crazy uncle you tried to keep from your wedding reception but showed up anyway, drunk off his a$$ and hitting on the bridesmaids.

If Tedisco loses this is going to result in a pretty big fight I would think between the people who end up backing him and the national Republican Party. I keep hearing that he is in a very conservative district so his getting elected should be like money in the bank so it would be an even bigger deal if he loses. The question is can Murphy capitalize. If I were running his campaign I would make this seem like Tedisco is going to be a tool of the National party and not a representative of the people. I would put out an add showing that the national party is still putting up ads against his request so how can the people of New York expect him to go up and vote independently when he can’t even keep ownership of his own campaign.
    .
“Do you want another politician who will just vote the party line?”. .
    .
Especially since Tedisco won’t take a position on the bailouts. Seriously I wish I had their email address to put that bug in their ear.

More indications of that chasm you were talking about earlier, Greg. These guys just don’t get it. They are tone deaf, and deaf to anything except their own skewed view of the world.

It’s a curious affliction which extends to many of the GOPers I know in my personal life: Almost to an individual, they behave as if only *they* know what’s best for others, and as though everyone and everything would be just fine if only the rest of us would smarten up allow them to call all the shots. In my view, the GOP and its most strident adherents tend to be somewhat pushy, arrogant, condescending “control freaks.”

You know what doesn’t get old? GOP infighting. LOVE IT.

I wonder why the NRCC’s ads are so turning off the local wingnuts. Possibly because “Wall Street,” “Republican” and “Epic Fail” are virtually synonyms?
