Dems: NRCC’s Pete Sessions Just Can’t Shake That Vegas Habit

NRCC chief Pete Sessions has been hanging out in Vegas again — and Dems are charging that along with a recent string of gaffes, he’s now showing an addiction to the racy gambling capital that casts doubt on his fitness for party leadership.

Sessions held a fundraiser last month at a less-than-staid venue in Las Vegas called Tao, according to Federal election records — a joint that has an affection for advertising featuring scantily clad women. Sessions had already taken some heat from Dems for holding another event there in February — and now he’s apparently back for more.

The election records show that Sessions’ PAC dropped more than $2,000 at the Tao Vegas Restaurant on April 6th, and another $9,000 at Palazzo in Vegas. Republicans have argued that Tao is a restaurant, but as Mary Ann Akers pointed out, it’s part of a larger steamy venue that “isn’t exactly a paradigm of conservative family values.”

Dems say that Sessions’ return to Vegas — in the context of recent gaffes such as his claim that Obama is plotting to destroy the economy to consolidate power — shows that his leadership position is becoming an embarrassment to a party that’s looking to remake itself.

“Whether it’s his inability to kick his Vegas habit, his comparing GOP campaign tactics to the Taliban, or his bizarre conspiracy theory about President Obama, each new chapter from Sessions seems more outlandish than the last,” DCCC spokesperson Ryan Rudominer claims. “As fellow Texan and NRSC Chairman John Cornyn pointed out, Republican Leaders need to question whether Sessions’ leadership of the NRCC is more trouble than it’s worth.”

The NRCC didn’t immediately return an email for comment.

A “joint called the Palazzo?” You mean the 3,000 room hotel on the strip called the Palazzo?

Greg – I know your blog is mostly read by political junkies, but it still may be a stretch to assume that everyone knows what NRCC stands for.

So John Cornyn is actually joining in the fun? OUCH. I bet the snooty Senate Republicans look down their noses at their wingnutty counterparts in the House.

I had dinner at Tao a while back, not only is it situated in a gambling hall, it is also a Sushi restaurant. I don’t remember any American cuisine like hamburgers or hot dogs being on the menu.
If Republicans consider eating dijon mustard as foreign and un-American, I can only imagine that for Republicans, eating Sushi is the equivalent of licking Tojo’s boots.

I understand that at one point, Sessions and a scantily clad female were so close to each other that their breathes kissed.
