Conservatives Keep Hitting Napolitano Over “Extremist” Report, Despite Multiple Apologies
Hmmm. Maybe it’s time for Department of Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano to stop apologizing?
No matter how many times Napolitano apologizes for that silly controversy over that DHS report on “right wing extremists,” conservatives keep hitting her for it.
Did you know that the controversy is still raging, even though it’s deeply silly and nearly a month has passed since the “story” first broke? Neither did I, but it is.
The latest: GOP Rep Pete King, who is getting media coverage today for introducing a resolution of inquiry about the report — particularly the section saying veterans could be targeted for right wing recruitment.
It doesn’t seem to matter that Napolitano apologized a few weeks ago for the report, or that an official with the American Legion said at the time that he was pleased with her apology.
Nor does it matter that Napolitano apologized again this week in a letter to colleagues, saying new rules would prevent it from happening again. Rep. King said this makes no difference, because the letter was only sent to Democrats, and not Republicans — even though the letter was made public in news reports.
Maybe a third apology will do the trick. Or maybe it’s worth trying to point out how absurd this whole thing really is?

I say f*ck it, let them investigate so then they can fire the Bush appointed DHS employee who put the report together in the first place.

She has nothing to apologize for. I hope that the DHS is keeping a close eye on right-wing extremists, neo-nazis, violent anti-government militias, the KKK, the Aryan Nations, and all the various armed-to-the-teeth right-wing loonies.
The fact that arch-conservatives somehow feel targeted only reveals where their true sympathies lay.

That’s an extremely good insight.
ignoring right wing extremist groups and how they recruit is a prime example of the “pre-4/19″ mindset that the GOP is currently stuck in.
BTW since the DHS report came out we had a guy down here in Florida who was pissed about President Obama getting elected and thought he would have his guns taken away, kill two police officers who were trying to arrest him on domestic violence charges.
MSNBC is reporting that Tom Ridge will NOT run for the Senate seat in PA.
Forget apologizing, the fact is that the report is true. There have been ongoing investigations linking veterans to extreme militia groups.

The DHS is now targeting imaginary American extremists instead of imaginary terrorists. Hey Americans here’s a newsflash: the DHS is an organization for ALL AMERICANS. The US Government is waging war on AMERICANS.
Why does she need to apologize for telling the truth? The extreme right are just as dangerous to the American public as foreign terrorists. Thing is, these American wing-nuts are allowed to go any place they want – unnoticed – and gun-down innocent citizens and police.
