Dems Hoping To Raise Cash Off Success Of Sarah Palin’s Going Rogue
The Dems are now hoping that the success of Sarah Palin’s book, Going Rogue, will galvanize the Dem base into coughing up fundraising dollars. From the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s latest fundraising email, to go out this afternoon:
She says that health insurance reform is “downright evil.” She says that President Obama is trying to create “death panels.” She even says that she hopes health care reform will be “dead on arrival.”
You and I know that the only thing dead on arrival whenever Sarah Palin grabs a microphone is the truth. Only now, her lie-riddled work of fiction called “Going Rogue” is selling like gangbusters — and it’s up to us to give it a proper response.
The media is closely watching to see how grassroots Democrats respond to Palin’s attacks before the all-important November FEC deadline that hits Midnight Tonight.
Help us raise $50,000 before Midnight Tonight for our Emergency Health Care Rapid Response Fund so health care supporting Democrats under attack by Sarah Palin and the right-wing lunatic fringe can fight back.
It’s standard fare for Dems to use Palin’s “lies” to raise cash, but the fact that Dems are now using her successful book sales to try to bring in the bucks is an interesting new twist, one that neatly highlights what pundits are calling the “enthusiasm gap” between the two parties.
Dems — who are the majority party and control the levers of government — are now pointing to the book sales of a private GOP citizen, and the enthusiasm of her fans, in hopes of lighting a fire under Dems. It will be interesting to see if it works, though of course one imagines passing a good health care bill would have a bit more of a galavanizing effect.

Heh. I just got this email too from the Dems and was thinking the same thing that they are using Sarah as a money making tool.
The only thing that is going to wake up the complacent Dems is A) an electoral thumping in 2010 which comes with the realization that Republicans in the majority is a really bad thing for this country and B) having Obama on the ticket.
Many of the left like Fluffington Post, democrats.org and MoveOn.org are too busy right now trying to discourage Democratic supporters from having any confidence in Obama’s decision making in picking his cabinet and his decisions on foreign and domestic policy.
The proper response to Palin’s book … *crickets*. But the dems can’t seem to help themselves.
@Mike: Are you saying that Obama’s cabinet choices haven’t been lame? The economic team is a disaster (Seriously, SUMMERS???), his military choices have been Bush playbook (Seriously, MCCHRYSTAL?????), and don’t get me started on Rham.
“one imagines passing a good health care bill would have a bit more of a galavanizing effect.”
Yes, one imagines.
Quit trying to please Sarah’s crowd or the corporate lobbyists and instead actually support common sense legislation to help people and one might be surprised how well that garners enthusiasm and support.
“Many of the left like Fluffington Post, democrats.org and MoveOn.org are too busy right now trying to discourage Democratic supporters from having any confidence in Obama’s decision making in picking his cabinet and his decisions on foreign and domestic policy.”
I love you.
Let’s see if you get jumped like I have for not admiring Arianna Fluffington.
I’m not a political operative and so I don’t know whether using Sarah will raise money successfully.
However I don’t necessarily agree with their premise…”successful book sales” Yes in terms of raw numbers and money..but how many of these books were sold in bulk to people who needed cover to simply give Sarah some money. Tena as I recall your Texans like Jim Wright perfected that “release a book and then any person or group can give you as much money as they wish.
Another holiday anecdote. One of the houses where I grew up has been turned into a “New Age” gift shop.
While visiting with my mother and wife we saw a Glen Beck book stuck in the corner. Not sure why it was there but it was only $5.00 instead of the $19.99 on the dust cover. You can imagine how warm and fuzzy I felt when my mother who can no longer read because of a stroke…snapped it up. Aaaargh. She loves Glen Beck!!
Her ’success’ with that book is simply preaching to the converted, aint it? How many folks who don’t already agree with her have bought the book? I’m not real sure what numbers make a book a success but I’m not surprised she sold that many, given she has x number of supporters.

”
Ann Coulter and Bill O’Reilly’s books have always been jumped to the top of the best selling lists by bulk sales to rightwing operatives.
Always.
And then they wind up in the remainder bins.
When are Democrats going to learn? If they won’t support us, we won’t support them–scare tactics or not. The latest polls suggest that 40% of us will be staying home next election. Obama and the Democrats need a little tough love.
shamus-
The alternative being what? The GOP gains seats? What good does that do?
Not gonna lie — totally took the bait and sent $25 this morning. Mostly because I loved that they, rightly, called the book a “lie-riddled book of fiction” fit for the “lunatic fringe.” HAHAHA
Let’s be clear who is really depressing those on the left: Right wing enabling Democrats and those purportedly on the “left” that embrace right wing policies as Obama has repeatedly done.
While the right is successfully exciting their base, the left is told they aren’t being sufficiently supportive.
Supportive of what? Obama’s rejection of lefty economists? Obama’s embrace of right wing economic frauds like Summers and Geithner? Obama’s escalation of the Afghanistan war despite myriad reasons to get out? Obama’s protection of the financial elite at the expense of regular working Americans?
That’s just a short list, did you want the long list?
Ultimately many of the choices Obama has made have created many of the rifts on the left.
Don’t blame the “left” for being depressed when Obama has made choice after choice after choice to ignore and often reject the concerns of the “left”.
Obama is walking a conservative centrist path.
That “pragmatism” over “principle” is certainly the easiest path for governing, and certainly Obama has got more challenges than any President since F.D.R., but F.D.R. stood up to the right wing’s hatred, Obama has repeatedly tried to appease the right wing.
How’s that working for him?
And no, “Shamus”, as much as I’m disgusted by “Mike” and “Tena’s” “punch a hippie” blame game, the Dems aren’t going to learn any ‘lessons’ if you are too “pure” to vote.
Or rather they’ll learn the opposite lesson: That left wing ‘purists’ aren’t their ‘base’ and that they need to be even more appeasing of right wingers.
If “Shamus” wants to be useful he can help primary right wing Dems and help unseat Republicans.
Sitting on the sideline is even more stupid than the “punch a hippie” game pulled by the centrists.

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee- DCCC says the president is trying to create what? I don’t think so.
