The Morning Plum
* Less than a third think Sarah Palin is qualified to be president.
* Authors of unauthorized book on Palin: She goes rogue from the truth, and reality, on a regular basis. Lots of fun stuff in that link.
* New ad from Americans United for Change lampoons GOP health care bill as the “GOP Health Insurance Profits Protection Act”:
The ad is running on DC cable, targeting lawmakers, but it’s not clear precisely who: The obstacles now are centrist Dems queasy about Dem proposals, not Republicans.
* Congressional Budget Office score of GOP bill finds it would cover only 3 million additional non-elderly people and leave 52 million uninsured in a decade.
* Some Dems, at least, appear to be leaning towards moving quicker on health care, and appealing to the base, in light of Tuesday’s results.
* Dem Rep. Gerald Connolly: Tuesday’s lesson is that we need to “give Democrats something to be excited about.”
* Palin’s book tour set to only make stops in Real America.
* Eric Cantor dares to state the obvious, albeit very carefully: Third-party challenges that tear the GOP apart might not be in the party’s best long term interests.
* Interesting idea: Why not call them the “Roosevelt-Kennedy annual dinners”?
* Here’s today’s installment in the Alan Grayson chronicles. Good stuff.
* And here’s a special preview of today’s installment in the Michele Bachmann chronicles, in which she calls for “scare” tactics at today’s big D.C. tea party! Coverage of that here today.

What else is happening?
Rudi Giulliani was on Fox in front of the troops trashing the President stating he’s playing politics with their lives.
Someone should throw him overboard.
A funny read from Gail Collins
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/05/opinion/05collins.html?_r=1&ref=opinion
What else is happening ?
I turned 50 today. Officially over the hill. Hey, me.
PS: Greg, Either you underline the links or use a visible color like red. Ideology apart, blue doesn’t cut it.
Ain’t today that batshit crazy woman, bachmann’s tea-party ?
Oh, goody.
Mike, what time did that happen?
and amk, you can’t see the links? first I’m hearing that from you!
Yes Greg, count on me to point your failings.
Seriously, I can’t see the blue colored links. (hey, I’m old, remember). I have to run the cursor all over the text to see the underline.
If you don’t like red, you could use pink. That should rile up some of the wingnuts here
Happy Birthday amk, I wouldn’t mind being 50 again.
Here’s another tidbit from the CBO report on the Repubs
non-reform plan. Who do they think they’re kidding?
“As another example of that third source of premium changes, the State Innovations program would induce states to take some actions affecting the average health status of people with insurance and people without insurance. For example, states that loosened rating rules in the market for individually purchased insurance to allow premiums to vary more on the basis of age would cause premiums for older people to increase and premiums for younger people to decrease. With other factors held equal, fewer older people (who tend to have higher health care costs) and more
young people (who tend to have lower health care costs) would then sign up for coverage, and the improved average health status of insured people would lower average premiums; at the same time, the pool of people without health insurance would end up being less healthy, on average, than under current law.”
In regards to this historic Bachmann “house call”, maybe the media will ask participants where they live. Why is this important? I hate to point to something GOP chairman Steele said but it’s true, if you don’t vote in the district your opinion doesn’t matter. If you’re a teabagger from Ark. then you have every right to talk to your representatives if not then stay away.
Gotta love Alan Grayson! If one takes just a moment to realize that this HCR debate is LITERALLY about life and death one realizes what a complete oxymoron “compassionate conservative” truly is…uttered of course by the ultimate moron.
Repubs have no problems with pissing away 65 billion a month in Afghanistan…I’ve lost count on how much we wasted in Iraq…all on bogus claims of protecting us…again I asked..if you were one of the uninsured would you be more frightenned of Islamic Terrorists or getting sick?
Great links Greg…I’m truly enjoying the morning plum.
Somebody responded on one of those linkns that Grayson’s C.V. included…”summa *** laude Phi Beta Kappa idiot from Harvard with a masters in public policy from the John F Kennedy School of Government and a stellar legal and business career who cares for people.”
Greg can you or somebody confirm whether that is true or not…if true..pretty impressive…of course not for the wingnut morons who believe MS Rogue is educated and view genuine academic accomplishment with derision and disdain.
This is interesting from POLITICO:
“PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR BOSS DOES NOT TERM THIS EVENT A ‘RALLY’” — Brendan Buck, Communications Director of the Republican Study Committee, e-mails House GOP aides about the “House Call” on Washington:”
I am guessing if they call it a rally, they would need a permit???
“Dem Rep. Gerald Connolly: Tuesday’s lesson is that we need to “give Democrats something to be excited about.”
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah. Does anyone with a brain actually believe that is why the Dems got killed in NJ and VA? Corzine lost because he wasn’t far enough to the left and he didn’t support the “president’s” agenda? Yeah sure. And for those who think NY-23 is as big of a deal, Owens said he opposes the public option.
amk – HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
Yeah, that awesome Alan Grayson. Those Republicans are killing people by opposing a bill that has massive new tax increases, will cut Medicare, will result in health care rationing, will increase the deficit, etc. There is no other reform mechanism at all, so the mere opposition to the worst bill of all time means you want to kill people.
Seriously, you people are so pathetic, it rises to the level of parody. Opposing the left=wanting people to die.
No wonder you got hammered on Tuesday.
Ooops, looks like Owens will support the House Bill.
“The winner of that race, Bill Owens, has already assured Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California that he will support the party health care proposal that could reach the floor this weekend, aides said.”
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/05/us/politics/05cong.html?ref=politics
That Gail Collins piece is hilarious –
“n Ohio, citizens marched to the polls on Tuesday and voted to allow gambling casinos in the state. This was a obviously a message to President Obama that independent voters are not happy with the way the health care bill is going.
Really, I don’t see how else you can interpret it. Ohioans were looking forward to the lower insurance costs that would come with a robust public option, and if the president can’t deliver, they’re planning to pay their future medical bills with their winnings at the roulette wheel.”
Hahahahahahahahahahahha!
ruk, Here’s a little about Grayson, and he has my niece’s story to read on the floor of the House, so he’s a bit of a hero to me. That’s not to say that sometimes he gets a little over heated and expresses himself differently than I would.
“Grayson was born in the Bronx, New York and grew up in the tenements. He graduated from Bronx High School of Science and worked his way through Harvard University, graduating in three years, summa *** laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He worked as an economist for two years, but then returned to Harvard for graduate studies. Within four years, he earned a law degree with honors from Harvard Law School, a masters in public policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and completed the course work and passed the general exams for a Ph.D. in government.[2][3]
After writing his master’s thesis on gerontology, Grayson founded the Alliance for Aging Research, and served as an officer of the organization for more than 20 years.”
“In recent years, Grayson specialized in war profiteer and whistleblower cases aimed at Iraq war contractors. One contractor, Custer Battles, billed the government $15 million for inspecting allegedly non-existent civilian flights at Baghdad Airport, and $10 million on a time and materials contract that had cost $3.5 million. The contractor received payment in newly printed cash direct from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.[3] Grayson was enabled to prosecute fraud through the False Claims Act and its qui tam provisions.”
Where is Ted Kennedy’s replacement?
Shoot – I love Alan Grayson and I think he expresses himself just fine. He’s not been out of line, IMO.
Oh my, I truly hope that Rep. Bachmann’s mob tries to go intimimdate Rep. Grayson. That will end up being the story of the day, to be sure!
But I’d imagine she knows better than to mess with the bull. Cowards.
Thx lmsinca and Tena. My last year b’day was the most memorable, if you know what I mean.
@amk
“My last year b’day was the most memorable, if you know what I mean.”
Because it was your first b’day in a muslim pinko commie hilter stalin evil black tea-outlawed America?
“if you know what I mean.
”
Well, I think I do.
BBQ – You left out teh socialist and I don’t live in that hitler ruled country though I studied there (under that pinko commie Carter) for two years for my engineering masters.
@Imsinca…thanks for the Grayson profile! He is certainly my hero!
@Bob65…you moronic troll..do you want to know why nobody pays attention to you idiots…this from the gallup poll Greg linked this morning…
” In fact, Republicans are more likely to say they would seriously consider voting for Palin for president (65%) than to say she is qualified for the job (58%).”
Is this not classic Republican nutjob at it’s best..
Freaking 7% thought Palin WAS UNQUALIFIED BUT THEY’D STILL VOTE FOR HER. You can’t make stuff up as good as this…Yessir..by golly..she isn’t qualified but she’s dern purty and I’d vote for her. And before the PC police come after me for the Southern twang inserted…I am a lifelong Southerner…and let’s face it..the Repubs are now rump party based largely in the South.
“Yessir..by golly..she isn’t qualified but she’s dern purty and I’d vote for h”
I had someone tell me that she would vote for Palin on the basis of her outsider status and her honesty, even though she knows Palin isn’t qualified.
To which I said – we have unqualified in office right now – Bush. Give me a competent crook any damn day,
Ahh sorry just got back on. Giullini was on moments before I made that post on the Faux and Jokers morning show on what I believe was the U.S.S. New York which was built down in LA from steel from the twin towers.
One reason they’ll vote for her is because she convinced them she’s one of those DC outsiders who will really really really only be interested in doing the right things for them.
Kind of like Jimmy Carter, although, that’s a terrible insult to Carter inasmuch as he’s really brilliant. But he didn’t have the chops to deal with DC – he was too frakking honest and I think probably too trusting. Palin is neither – she’s just too damn dumb.
mike – So a noun, a verb and a 9-11 rudy used the 9-11 tragedy again to bash the CIC in front of the soldiers. And these MF’ers claim that they keep their “homeland” safe.
“And these MF’ers claim that they keep their “homeland” safe.”
Yeah, Rudy is going to keep us safe – he’ll step on their insteps with his stilettos and hit them with his purse.
Happy bday AMK! You don’t look a day over 25!
LOL Tena. I didn’t want to bring that one up.
Thx Kris. Don’t go by my posts here.
HAPPY BDAY AMK! Guess what, mine’s tomorrow!
Go scorpios!
Yanks win the series, we got teabagger insanity on the intertubes/telebox today, the GOP is in a Civil War… Gotta love it!
Gotta love this from the TPM link (thx Greg):
“The share of legal nonelderly residents with insurance coverage in 2019 would be about 83 percent, roughly in line with the current share. [...] The GOP bill does require less new government spending, but that’s what you get when you don’t insure anybody.”
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/11/republican-health-insurance-reform-bill-insures-almost-nobody.php
Hilarious. Why do they even call it a health insurance reform bill if the REFORM they want is to make the situation WORSE?! unreal.
Oh yeah!
I’m Going to read you a list of possible Republican candidates in the 2012 presidential election. Please tell me whether you would, or would not, seriously consider supporting each for president:
Among Republicans:
Sarah Palin: 65% Yes, 33% No
Among all adults:
Sarah Palin: 33% Yes, 63% No
Please tell me whether you think each of the following people is qualified or is not qualified to be president
Sarah Palin: 31% Yes, 62% No
Yup. They certainly are the party of NO.
A good dkos diary on overton window and the frigging msm and their legitimizing the tea-bagging crazies.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/11/5/800804/-Morning-Feature:-Crazy-Like-a-Fox
Whoa – that is incredible, Ethan. I love how the trolls keep telling us we’re crazy, no one agrees with us and we’re out of step.
Among Repubs, Palin 65% Yes, 33% No, and it’s almost exactly reversed for the rest of the entire real world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Among adults in general, 33% No, 63% Yes – That’s stunning.
The Repubs are just on their own and refuse to see it – only 33% of the country – just they themselves – see Palin as qualified and they still insist the country agrees with them. Breathtaking.
Thx Ethan. My advance wishes to you.
Love that crack of Party of NO. Scorps rock.
I reversed the numbers in the adults in general – it’s 63% No and 33% yes.
Happy Birthday a day early, Ethan.
Scorpios do rock, especially the guys. Never met one I could resist.
Haha, oh yeah. Thx Tena, thx amk
