Texas Republicans Really Don’t Like Obamacare

Texas Republican primary voters are obviously pretty far off to the right, but this is really something:

Generally speaking, do you strongly favor, somewhat favor, somewhat oppose or strongly oppose the health care reform plan proposed by President Obama and the congressional Democrats?

6% Strongly favor

6% Somewhat favor

11% Somewhat oppose

76% Strongly oppose

1% Not sure

More than three fourths of Texas Republicans strongly oppose Obamacare, and nearly 90% oppose it overall. Another reminder, if you needed one, of the astonishing amount of dread health care reform arouses in some quarters. Also explains why the Tea Partiers are able to get such traction in certain pockets of the country.

@Greg: “More than three fourths of Texas Republicans strongly oppos Obamacare.”

Flag! 15 yeards. You aren’t allowed to call it “Obamacare” – that’s what wingnuts call it.

(I think you are missing an “e” in there.)

I don’t know what you were grinning at when you told me this one was for me.

    ahem.

You know what is going to be the result = Texas will opt out.

    Betcha.

Furthermore, I am still not convinced that I’m not going to end up getting shot here for the stickers on my car.

  4. Ethan | November 13th, 2009 at 01:23 pm

“Obamacare” is a freaking insult to the people that die every day because of a lack of insurance.

  5. Greg Sargent | November 13th, 2009 at 01:25 pm

I’m using Obamacare ironically, as in, that’s how these Repubs see it.

  6. Ethan | November 13th, 2009 at 01:26 pm

Then put it in quotes at least, imho, please.

OF COURSE Republithugs in Texas oppose health care reform. With the prospect of providing health care to 25 percent of the population of Texas, who WILL NOT be added to the profit margin of the insurance corp CEOs who pass out the big campaign checks to the right wing wacko TEXAS politicians, it would mean those newly covered would go for the party that gave it to them. And at least SOME of those are adamant “lemmings” who will LIKE what they GET and even KNOW it didn’t come from the Thugs!

Hillbilly nincompoops on parade, with no more than fourteen teeth and 20 IQ points among ‘em.

I wonder if these morons ever come out from under their beds. How *FRIGHTENINGLY* stupid and insular these teabaggers are! A real and present danger to the continuing existence of our nation, our democracy and our Constitution.

Perhaps we legally FORCE these chuckleheads to secede — AFTER bringing Tena and Mr. Tena and all of Austin over, of course….

Free health clinic event plans capacity for 2,000 patients

New Orleans area residents without health insurance will have access Saturday to a massive free health clinic that organizers say will boast at least 400 medical professionals and support workers with resources to serve at least 2,000 patients.

The event, which will take up 166,000 square feet at Ernest M. Morial Convention Center, is the second nationally this year in a series of health fairs sponsored by the Louisiana Free Clinic Association and the National Association of Free Clinics, a not-for-profit based in Washington, D.C.

Doors are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with 2,000 appointment slots available, plus the ability to take some walk-ups. No one will be charged. Uninsured or underinsured individuals can make appointments by calling 877.233.5159.

Of course the Texas GOP wingnuts don’t know what “Obamacare” actually is, but they know they don’t like it.

  11. fourlegsgood | November 13th, 2009 at 01:37 pm

This is incredibly depressing. Texas republicans don’t have the faintest clue what health care reform actually is. I talked to a young republican last week who insisted that HCR would mean the government would dictate what insurance he could buy. No amount of logic or facts could change his mind.

  14. dave | November 13th, 2009 at 02:06 pm

yo Greg what about C street

  15. Tena | November 13th, 2009 at 02:10 pm

fourlegsgood – it’s horribly depressing. We have the largest number of uninsured in the country.

    {note to Greg: you can’t use irony or satire around sbj = he doesn’t get it.}

  16. Tena | November 13th, 2009 at 02:11 pm

“We all vote that Tena should take this.”

What the hell you want me to do with it?

    lol

Texas shows the nation the way. Again.

Pollster.com national aggregate polling on healthcare reform:

    Oppose: 49.5%
    Favor: 42.2%

I second that Dave. What about C Street!

  19. Palolo lolo | November 13th, 2009 at 03:32 pm

cancel the state-paid insurance and benefits for these idiots and watch the histrionics! But from a safe distance-like another state. Or country. Let them secede. Please

  20. kathy | November 13th, 2009 at 04:27 pm

Please don’t hold all Texans responsible for those idiots. Perry is scary. Hopefully, the opt-out will be a referendum in the state elections next year. Of course, that would assuma an informed electorate. Democrats are coming back in the Lone Star State. There will be no secession.

    Patriotic Texans Vote Democratic.

The Republican-Secessionist traitors should be ashamed of themselves. It’s deeply anti-American to blather about secession.

    Patriotic Republicans Vote Democratic.
