Tea Party Leader Nixes Plans To Burn Pelosi And Perriello In Effigy
Looks like plans to burn Nancy Pelosi in effigy are proving too hot even for the Tea Party brigade’s most hot-headed revolutionaries.
A Virginia Tea Party leader has nixed his group’s plan to burn Pelosi and Dem Rep. Tom Perriello in effigy to protest the health care plan — which garnered national attention last week — telling me he’s “disappointed” that liberal blogs and others had wrongly persuaded people that the group intended violence.
Nigel Coleman, chairman of the Danville Tea Party, says the local property owner hosting the rally asked him to pull the plug.
“We will not be going forward with the plan,” a crestfallen Coleman told me by phone moments ago. “We had to cancel it. The property owner won’t allow us to do it. The media attention was something that he didn’t want.”
Coleman said he was upset that people had gotten the wrong idea about his plan. “I’m disappointed that the story got out of hand and people misinterpreted something we thought would be a little historical lesson. They made people believe that we were committing an act of violence,” he said, adding that the “they” in question were the “liberal blogs.”
Last week, Coleman defended the plan as reminiscent of the American Revolutionaries, a historical comparison that’s somewhat tenuous, given that the revolutionaries were rebelling against a monarch, while the Tea Partiers are protesting a plan created by a government that was elected by a sizable majority.
But Coleman said he didn’t feel that his right to free expression had been tread upon, blaming himself for not anticipating the backlash.
“It was a mistake not to see beforehand that this would be controversial,” he allowed. “The general public didn’t exactly understand what we were going after.”

O those poor Teabaggers. I feel their pain. Now they will have no fire available to boil wate,r in order to be able to immerse their Teabag heads in.
Biggest idiot since Not-Joe the Not-Plumber.
With all of the violent imagery and rhetoric associated with the teabaggers, why should Nigel Coleman be surprised that people were outraged at yet more violent imagery?
Teabaggers are clowns. Nobody outside the movement takes them seriously.
Bummer!
Are you proud of yourself, Greg?
Maybe they should rub their nuts in each others faces in protest instead.
OK, I’m not buying any camping equipment from this guy anymore!
mike from Arlington,
Are they squirrels?
Their original comparison to American Revolutionaries was actually the most upsetting of the whole thing. By using that analogy, they all but announced that this was intended to be a violent act.
@Gasman & Mike…Gasman do you what teabagging means in the gay community? Mike…LMAO…that was hilarious!
@Gasman..btw I didn’t know what it meant and my wife and I kept asking..WTF..unti Bill Maher had a guest who explained it one night.
Maybe they should have stepped on American flags and attempted to bomb police stations and Army Barracks. Then instead of attacking them, the entire left would defend them and claim it was no big deal. They would have been given a teaching job at Northwestern.
The Obama Record: Record unemployment, record deficits, no legislative accomplishments.
The Bush Legacy: Debt, Death and Destruction.
“no legislative accomplishments.”
O indeed none. Fair wages for working women, health care reform.
He’s not a legislator, you know. He’s the head of the Executive.
And the unemployment and the record deficit is Bush and the Repugs’ fault and what’s more people poll in large majorities that they get that.
Maybe the Tea Baggers should set themselves on fire.
Now there’s a protest.
rukidding,
I was being a wag with my squirrel comment. I confess that until Rachel Maddow nearly split her sides laughing at them anointing themselves with the moniker, I did not know what “teabagging” meant. I did an enormous spit take when I looked it up.
It is perfect schadenfreude for those morons to adopt a name which has such a colorful previous meaning. Bravo teabaggers! Both sets.
IDK what you all are talking about but I WAS talking about squirrels.
Gasman,
As we used to say when I was much younger..”Right On!”
Of course, because all Teabaggers are Squirrelly.
“It is perfect schadenfreude for those morons to adopt a name which has such a colorful previous meaning. Bravo teabaggers! Both sets.”
Yes. It’s one of my all time favorite thing. BWAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
I wouldn’t have known what it was but for the 7 years I’ve spent online. I think I know just about everything now – from Tea Bagging to Dirty Sanchez to Falafel in the shower.
And, of course, Santorum.
Don’t make me tell you what it stands for now if you don’t know.
Tena…you know I respect your posts but responding to Joe Leiberman…either of them..is probably a waste..that assumes they have the ability to think critically…they are both mindless idealogues!
Santorum? Puhleeze…
“The general public didn’t exactly understand what we were going after.”
Actually, dude, your problem was that the general public did understand exactly what you were going after.
“Actually, dude, your problem was that the general public did understand exactly what you were going after.”
word up. [chuckle]
” adding that the “they” in question were the “liberal blogs.”
We did? “People” actually paid attention to liberal blogs?
Wow, we’re actually powerful.
This is a liberal blog? With QB/SBJ/Joe Leiberman/Bilgey….just kidding…perhaps somebody can explain what troll means.
Speaking of effigy burnings, hangings, etc. These are your people.

I don’t know what it is that y’all are trippin on, QB, but not only were there no public death threats against Bush – we weren’t allowed to protest anywhere within 20 miles of Bush including wearing a tee shirt that was anti-Bush.
Bush’s audiences were hand-picked, every one of them. No one was allowed anywhere near Bush with so much as a slightly cross expression. He was the original bubble boy.
The only threats I ever saw were satiric threats on comments boards and every liberal blogger I know would immediately pull those comments and I also quit Eschaton because Atrios banned a friend of mine for making a somewhat violent suggestion about someone in the government – don’t remember who now.
You are so full of s*h*i*t – but what I mainly can’t figure out is how you think it justifies your threats against Obama that someone possibly threatened Bush – how does threatening anyone make it Ok to threaten someone else?
I didn’t read anything about not slapping nut sacks. Is that still on?
“The only remaining question is: Impeachment or assassination.”
Ann Coulter, speaking about Bill Clinton.
“Is that still on?”
O, it’s on, baby. It’s on!
Here is the sum total of the Conservative Movement now:
Reaction.
That’s it. All you do anymore at all is say: “but you did it too.” No ethical argument about why it’s wrong to threaten violence against the president; nothing at all measured or thought out about this constant Nyah nyah nyah you did it too you did it first – just reaction.
That’s all you do anymore. Carry around a huge grievance against 70% of the country and react on the basis of that enormous damn chip on every conservative shoulder.
Tena,
quarterback is a teabagger. That explains all of the irrational idiocy he so regularly spouts.
Consider the evidence:
1. He watches and breathlessly defends FauxNews as being legitimate.
2. He mindlessly parrots right wing conspiracy memes about the liberal media and the evil Olbermann, Maddow, and anyone else that doesn’t show abject fealty to the conservative cause du jour, whatever that is.
3. He supports Dick Cheney’s doctrine of torture.
4. He is a birther.
5. He is a Palinista.
Clinically, he is a teabagger.
I bet he’s even got one of those hats adorned with tea bags all around the brim. I used to think that he was just a blowhard fraud, but he may actually be a true believer.
I’m sure this definitely qualifies me as a Stalinist, but that is so unfair. Excuse me, it’s time for me to go and sing “the Internationale.”
Gasman – LOL!
I do think he probably is a True Believer.
Jesus take the wheel!
“..is probably a waste..that assumes they have the ability to think critically…they are both mindless idealogues!”
I know and I think half the time I just can’t leave the lie sitting there on thread for anyone at all to come along and read – some days I don’t care. But I really do wish one of them would tell me how the supposed [imagined] threats against Bush justify threatening any other president.
That is the part where nothing at all hangs together or makes any sense.
All, roundup posted:

note the GOP’s plan to force a vote on KSM…
“I don’t know what it is that y’all are trippin on, QB, but not only were there no public death threats against Bush – we weren’t allowed to protest anywhere within 20 miles of Bush including wearing a tee shirt that was anti-Bush.”
You are not only a liar but apparently blind. And have a short memory, since we went through this before and I posted links to multiple “threats” and compilations of threats, proving you all wet yet again.
“You are so full of s*h*i*t – but what I mainly can’t figure out is how you think it justifies your threats against Obama that someone possibly threatened Bush – how does threatening anyone make it Ok to threaten someone else?”
1. Please document any threat you claim I’ve made.
2. People threatened Bush all the time. I proved it before and you know it. The link above alone proves it in spades.
3. You are changing the subject.
4. I didn’t argue that burning Pelosi in effigy is or isn’t justified. I just pointed out again your hypocrisy.
If you all don’t like being reminded of what you did to Republicans during your eight-year (and ongoing) jihad against Bush, stop being such flaming hypocrites.
QB the TB,
Yet again, your latest version of “I know you are, but what am I?”
Teabagger, thy name is quarterback.
“Yet again, your latest version of “I know you are, but what am I?”
Teabagger, thy name is quarterback.”
yeah, and it’s true that it’s utterly hopeless.
LOL
Now you two are imitating Liam and just posting the same cut-and-paste claptrap.
Now, go ahead and repeat again. 3-2-1 . . .
aawww, poor sbj, the dishonest troll. He was so looking forward to pouring the gasoline on those effigies.
So Sad! Too Bad!! Boo-Hoo for the Teabaggers. This continued Republican response to U.S. calling them and their so-called leaders on misbehavior with a juvenile “But Whut about Yew??!” is tiresome in the extreme. When George W. Bush was going to land one of Southern Oregon’s landmarks, Big Table Rock, and disturb the local endangered species in yet another grandstand play a local dude said “gee, isn’t that kind of dangerous?? He could be in range of an assasin”. The Secret Service ORDERED him out of town until “W” came, clowned, and left!!! The post with a bunch of San Francisco loonies carrying nastygrams for “W” just means that THERE WEREN”T ENOUGH SECRET SERVICE AGENTS ON THE WEST COAST TO ARREST EVERYONE IN S.F. WHO HATED “W” AND CARRUED A SIGN!! It doesn’t make it right either way. These TeaBaggers are acting an awful lot like Muzzy Extremists, eh??!!
it’s good the teabaggers decided against burning effigies – won’t move people your way whom you threaten with immolation
One question for you lib’s out there. If the conservatives are “teabaggers,” who are they “teabagging?”
Click here to find out: http://thedailyzing.com/458/teabagging-101-steeping/
wow – feel the hate and fear. keep talking in circles to like minded folks. It really does help your cause.
I don’t see your logic against people that want responsible government. Did you see the story earlier today where 20 some repubs and 22 dems were parroting a drug lobbyists talking points nearly verbatim. Am I the only one that thinks that is wrong?
You sit there and tell me that voting for a bill you have not read is the correct & right thing to do? Red or Blue – is it right?
The TEA movement is not republican – as much as they are trying to get in front of it… they only wind up behind it. The TEA movement… when articulated by Obama during the campaign was very popular… but things have changed since January. But – hey, enjoy the kool-aid.
Tea Baggers, huh? Tell you what – say it to my face. I live in SE PA, and I travel often in the BOS-DC corridor. Just let me know. I’d be happy to stop by and have a cocktail. Listen to you make a sexual slur to my face, and respond appropriately.
Don’t worry — because we plan to do this in NH — Pelosi, Hodes, Porter and that despicable Shaheen too! It’s gonna be a good old-fashioned BONFIRE.
it always amuses me when folks use the term ‘liberal’ in an insulting way. those doggone LIBERALS think freedom is a GOOD thing!
btw, the teabaggers named THEMSELVES; that’s the funny part.
for the record, i am a 56 year old heterosexual man, and i’ve been tea bagged by my female partner. i highly recommend it. it’s not a gay act at all, any more than fellatio is. it’s quite gender neutral (in the giving, not, obviously, the receiving)!
It was 22 Republicans and 20 Dems who “were parroting a drug lobbyists talking points nearly verbatim.”
And while that’s commonplace amongst right wingers (a term which includes a chunk of Dems), it’s reviled by true lefties.
Speaking truth to power is a left wing thing.
Sucking up to power is a right wing thing.
just visiting,
Don’t like the “teabagger” moniker, eh? Too bad, because it was your own folk that coined it.
Griff Jenkins was using the term before anyone on MS-NBC referring to “tea bag the White House” and “tea bag the fools in D.C.” (I imagine you don’t like Maddow, so advance to 0:52):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLsKt4O4Yw8
Charles Krauthammer was using the “tea bag” reference as recently as about three weeks ago. I guess he didn’t get the message. Also, signs at the tebagger rallies have included examples like the following: “Tea Bag the Liberal Dems Before They Tea Bag You!”
How many teabaggers have you seen on video with tea bags adorning the rims of their hats?
I’m sure that you don’t like the term, but the liberals didn’t saddle you with it, you guys did.
If the tea bag fits….
FOX host “Griff Jenkins was using the term “tea bag” before anyone”.
But in right wing world, anything that right wingers do or say that reflect badly on them Orwellianly disappears from history.
After eight years of the right wing sitting idle and watching without complaint the irresponsible, reckless, and often criminal Republican Bush administration, suddenly now teabaggers like “just visiting” have the temerity to wonder, “I don’t see your logic against people that want responsible government.”
Well, actually Americans rose up and voted out the irresponsible government that right wingers had enabled for eight long years.
In return Liberals extremists can send Nixes’ effigy to see Satan in HELL to make sure he will never have a chance to join the intelligence design group but only Satan’s.
@gasman – I really don’t care who coined it. I am telling the people that enjoy saying it as a sexual slur, that they do not have the guts to say it to my face.
@News Reference – ok, 22 R’s & 20 D’s. Point taken. But am I the only one here that thinks that is wrong on nearly every level? That this indicates to me that the current HCR is being written by lobbyists by big pharma? !!
No outrage anywhere?? Why? Because it is being done under the guise of HCR?
Politicians pushing lobbyist written talking points “is wrong on nearly every level”.
Agreed.
That’s it’s being done under what is supposed to be life-saving health care reform is extra pernicious.
But as much as I’ve come to expect that kind of offensive corporatism from all Republicans, I’m much more disgusted in the handful of Dems that do it.
But at least this time they’ve outed themselves for who they are.

“Don’t like the “teabagger” moniker, eh? Too bad, because it was your own folk that coined it.”
Interesting claim. Proof?
Tea Baggers, huh? Tell you what – say it to my face. I live in SE PA, and I travel often in the BOS-DC corridor. Just let me know. I’d be happy to stop by and have a cocktail. Listen to you make a sexual slur to my face, and respond appropriately.
I live in the DC metro area and will say it here and to your face, ya teabagging tool. Doesn’t seem ironic that the Neocons are teabagging the one’s like ‘just visiting’ and J V spits his vile towards liberals instead of into the face of the Neocons who are ‘dunking’ him. HA HA
QB the TB,
For one who regularly makes the same accusation, “You obviously didn’t read the post.” You also didn’t follow the video link of Griff Jenkins using the “tea bag” reference multiple times BEFORE the big tax day teabagger rallies.
The reason people are so dismissive of you is you are a major hypocrite and teabagger troll. Just as unconvincing and transparent as ever.
Sorry, Gasbag.
That clip actually isn’t proof of the claim you made. But seeing that requires logic and reason, faculties you don’t possess.
Living not far from Danville, I saw this “tea bag leader” being interviewed on the local news. To my surprise, this guy is an African American (as I) leading this local movement against Obama! Now my surprise isn’t that he shouldn’t have the right to disagree with Obama’s policies, nor that he should think like Obama b/c “all black people think alike”. The issue that I have is that this individual, not more than four decades ago, would have been tied up and lynched if he expressed similar opinions against the government and the very people that he claims to be apart of now would have been the first to hang the noose around his neck!! He should take a moment to reflect on what we as African Americanshave endured before he launches out to “burn/hang” anyone in effigy. How soon the ignorant forget.
Go ahead — keep dismissing the teabaggers. Germans did the same thing regarding the brown shirts before 1933. They stopped scoffing after 1933.
I noticed that whenever the liberal facist dont like someone or something they always assign some sort of perverted sexual term to express their own short-comings. You faggots dont have anything else to say. **** you.
