National Dems Raising Money Off Joe “You Lie” Wilson’s Outburst
National Dems are now raising money off Joe Wilson’s “you lie” outburst, pumping it up as a symbol of Republican anger, intransigence, and irrevocable hostility to Obama and his agenda.
A source sends over a DCCC fundraising email, to go out soon, that ties Wilson to the long hot summer of town hall hooliganism, GOP foot-dragging, and reform-foe mendacity:
Republicans disrespecting President Obama and refusing to engage in meaningful debate is nothing new. They’ve been doing it all summer long. But disrespecting the President before the eyes of the nation and just at the moment when President Obama was offering his solution to the greatest challenge of our time is truly an outrage.
Help us raise $100,000 in the next 48 Hours to send a message to Republicans like Congressman Joe Wilson that we will not stand for our President to be called a liar in front of the nation. Your contribution will be immediately put to work to defeat Republican Members of Congress and support meaningful health insurance reform.
Separately, Wilson’s challenger has raised $200,000 off the outburst, Dem sources say. Combine that with the DCCC’s new effort, and the final tally is likely to be something to behold.
Whichever side you’re on, it’s kind of interesting how sudden and unpredictable the appearance of political gifts can be — and that despite their unpredictability, you can always be sure that another such gift will pop up soon enough.

Update: Don’t know anything about Joe Wilson? We just put up a new profile of him that isn’t yet complete at WhoRunsGov. Can you help us complete it? For details on how, check out our new Moderated Wiki, where you can write or edit profiles of any D.C. player you think deserves it.

Nice.
No “Dem Sources” required: http://www.actblue.com/entity/fundraisers/19079
On ActBlue (as of this writing), Miller has raised over $230,000. And with a fresh front page post on DK…I suspect that number will jump a bit in the next few hours.
Keep in mind…in 2008, Miller raised ~$600,000 in TOTAL.
And that’s JUST the ActBlue page. That’s not inlcuding direct contributions to his website. I can’t wait to see his totals for the month if/when they get released.
Oh, and when I say “in 2008″…I mean for his entire campaign for Congress during the 2008 elections. So he’s over 1/3 of the way there, with over a year left to fundraise.
Plus…since typing that last response, and this one – the ActBlue page is up to (reload!): $246,000.
Wow.
Alinsky said: “The action is in the reaction.”
BBQ- $260,00 and still rising.
I’m all for the money going to Rep. Wilson’s opponent. That was spontaneous. That was people expressing opinions with their wallets. I did it myself last night when it was identified who the the screamer was.
That being said, I don’t approve of the DCCC raising money off of it. Too calculated, too political, too partisan. This one went viral on it’s own, should ahve left it to keep doing so – exploiting it steals momentum and makes the Dems look bad.
Joe Wilson for President.
It would be great fun to see Granny Palin, Michelle Bachmann, Mike Huckabee, and Joe Wilson debate.
Please Please Please let it happen.
I think I will start a grassroots organization to jump start the process. Now, can some one tell me where I can purchase a map that shows only “the real America”. I want to concentrate my efforts there.
“Too calculated, too political, too partisan. This one went viral on it’s own, should ahve left it to keep doing so – exploiting it steals momentum and makes the Dems look bad.”
O for heaven’s sake – It does not. And frankly, Democrats want to win just as much as Repugs do – so spare me your “moral” outrage, please.
Say, wasn’t there some sort of really important h/c speech last nite?
Almost $290,000.
I have emailed Pelosi to throw the book at him–very disappointed that she is saying to put it past us and not to censure him. I agree with Specter–censure or reprimand, but prefer censure.
I just sent the DCCC $100 and sent an email to Wilson telling him that he is immature and very unstatesmanlike and that the entire Republican Party should be ashamed.
so spare me your “moral” outrage, please.
So says the perpetually morally outraged Tena.
When I think of the bald-faced lies Bush stood there in Congress and told the country: yellow-cake, a mushroom cloud, WMDs that were fantasies – and never did one Democrat interrupt his addresses to yell “You lie,” and god knows he did every time he opened his mouth.
They should string this guy up by the balls and let the public throw rotten fruit at him for punishment.
“So says the perpetually morally outraged Tena.”
And you’re a troll -
and sent an email to Wilson telling him that he is immature…
Coming from someone who routinely refers to Republicans as “Repugs”, that is quite a rebuke.
Do you people have no sense of self-awareness at all? LOL
Coming from people who started the whole thing with Lee Atwater, calling anything the Democrats did by the cute little appellation Democrat instead of Democratic, that’s really something.
Sorry, my initial comment wasn’t moral outrage. I just think it’s the wrong message when you are trying to say they are partisan and we are not. This one was going to take care of itself and generate tons of money on it’s own. I don’t like giving the RNC anything they can use to deflect from this in any way. And this gives a small means of deflection.
Sometimes the best politics is just to let things move naturally. This one was. Everybody would still be talking about it and the Repubs would ahve nothing to say. Now they can point fingers and accuse the DCCC of explioting the moment. Why even give them that chance, this one was going fine on it’s own.
Repugs, thy name is HYPOCRITES.
Happy to send $50 Rob Miller’s way via ActBlue. OTOH, not so interested in giving to the DCCC. No point in diluting my contribution by spreading around to Blue Dogs and other ConservaDems.
“Sorry, my initial comment wasn’t moral outrage. I just think it’s the wrong message when you are trying to say they are partisan and we are not.”
I understand what you’re saying, but I think you’re wrong-headed on it. There’s nothing wrong with being partisan. It’s only when partisanship destroys the ability to move legislation or appointments or anything else that it becomes a problem.
We’re all partisans.

Coming from people who started the whole thing with Lee Atwater…
Huh? I didn’t have anything to do with Atwater.
Actually rumor mongering about political opponents was a very common practice engaged in by the likes of Thomas Jefferson. You should read the stuff that he paid to have published about his opponents.
I like having Scott around. I enjoy when Bernie and he engage in verbal jousts, and like he said; he is just here slumming.
Welcome to my tumbledown shanty town, Scott. It is the best we can afford, after your Robber Baron Oligarchs got through with their eight years of plundering.
“They should string this guy up by the balls and let the public throw rotten fruit at him for punishment.”
Obama deserves a lot of punishment, but that’s extreme.
“When I think of the bald-faced lies Bush stood there in Congress and told the country: yellow-cake, a mushroom cloud, WMDs that were fantasies – and never did one Democrat interrupt his addresses to yell “You lie,” and god knows he did every time he opened his mouth.”
Actually, Democrats were extremely disrepectful and openly booed, hissed, and catcalled. You have no idea what specific calumnies and accusations they voiced.
That was all okay as far as you are concerned. I suppose.

Thanks. Any bars around? I need a drink.
Someone over at balloonjuice, said, that the dems will overdo the outrage?>
h/t Sully, Well the GOP are selling T-shirts:
The GOP’s New Slogan: I’m with Joe Wilson
but’s it’s the dems who are gonna take it too far…right?

Just walk around. You will find one on every corner. Every one of them an Irish Pub. That is the silver lining in this Shrub Depression. More time to spend in the pubs.
To quote a famous Irishman.
“Work is the curse of the drinking class.” Oscar Wilde
Should read “GOP knuckle-dragging”.
look at http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2009/09/not_the_first_time.php for more information on Wilson. for anger management and

Plain, simple and to the point – the GOP is un-American.
