Howard Dean: “Kill The Senate Bill”
In a blow to the bill grinding through the Senate, Howard Dean bluntly called for the bill to be killed in a pre-recorded interview set to air later this afternoon, denouncing it as “the collapse of health care reform in the United States Senate,” the reporter who conducted the interview tells me.
Dean said the removal of the Medicare buy-in made the bill not worth supporting, and urged Dem leaders to start over with the process of reconciliation in the interview, which is set to air at 5:50 PM today on Vermont Public Radio, political reporter Bob Kinzel confirms to me.
The gauntlet from Dean — whose voice on health care is well respected among liberals — will energize those on the left who are mobilizing against the bill, and make it tougher for liberals to embrace the emerging proposal. In an excerpt Kinzel gave me, Dean says:
“This is essentially the collapse of health care reform in the United States Senate. Honestly the best thing to do right now is kill the Senate bill, go back to the House, start the reconciliation process, where you only need 51 votes and it would be a much simpler bill.”
Kinzel added that Dean essentially said that if Democratic leaders cave into Joe Lieberman right now they’ll be left with a bill that’s not worth supporting.
Dean had previously endorsed the Medicare buy-in compromise without a public option, saying that the key question should be whether the bill contains enough “real reform” to be worthy of progressives’ support. Dean has apparently concluded that the “real reform” has been removed at Lieberman’s behest — which won’t make it easier for liberals to swallow the emerging compromise.
Update: The full interview is now up at Vermont Public Radio.

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHA!!!
Sounds like somebody got a premature release from the mental institution.
TO ANDY: WOW BOY, you are a fully dillusional moron my friend. Holy agenda! Man have you bought into the Kool Aid. I cant believe what I read. Do you actually BELIEVE what you are spewing? Ill prove only one of your arguments to be false since you wont take time to read them all. Lets take the “Teabaggers….” (real nice I might add- thats why i gave you Moron, you atrted it…) We are tired of the increase i see in my pay per week, month , year and end of year April 14th settle up. We care about our kids future. I have been in both Private Industry and Government my friend, and guess what? When the “whistle blew” for work to be over in a Government job- Home we went. And the pile of work got bigger and bigger. In the Private Sector (real world) I had to finish my work or I lost my job. we lost our clients.. Its called accountability. And guess what else? The customers were happier. It may not be appealing or fair, but its reality.
And that’s the right wing folks: Beyond the right wing’s complete lack of awareness of America’s constitutionally limited democratic republic, is the right wing’s contempt for America’s constitutionally limited democratic republic.
Again:
Why do right wingers hate America?
More importantly, why do right wingers hate democracy?
NR you crack me up!! You do an awesome job pretending to be an uneducated and unsophisticated liberal, it is great schtick! We had a great laugh about your parodies today, too funny…
Well, “SanAnton”, considering I think I know you means I also know you haven’t learned anything.
But is there any chance that you would step up and accept our American constitutionally limited democratic republic?
Or perhaps you could just stop pretending and admit you are against our American constitutionally limited democratic republic.
Great stuff, News Reference! Keep it coming.
If we’d actually ever heard an authoritarian/imperialist/leftist/statist talk about reverence for democracy, limited government and the Constitution (rather than constantly shtting all over it and trying to figure out ways around it), we might actually believe you to be authentic.
Problem is, for comedy to be effective, it has to at least have at least a ring of truth.
But it’s still a great schtick. So, by all means, keep it coming. It’s quite amusing.

Whether you agree with Howard Deans politics or not I have to say he stands by his word. He is not influenced by the wealthy corporations that are leading our country and has been leading our country for about the last 40 years.
Ask yourself, why companies want to pay for insurance for their employees. Simple, to own their employees. Many are not FREE to change jobs due to benefits. Common sense.
No citizen of the US should be mandated to carry health insurance. This should be a choice. I see this is just another way for corporations to get the whole pie.
I thank Howard Dean for his honesty. It is a rarity.
hmm, News Reference has a point – and I’m not talking about the words she is writing, but the news is definitely full of inaccuracies. For example the only KKK grand dragoon in the senate is Democrat Byrd. The dinosaur of the Senate himself-so that makes the example backwards. War crime is not defined as “anything equal to or greater in forms of punishment than pouring water on someone’s head”, so the waterboarding that I’ll assume you are talking about as a ‘war crime’ is merely what is being touted by the people who wish it had been their war – their crisis. Chris Matthews even said he wished Clinton had been President when the terrorists had crashed into the Twin Towers (as a side note, Clinton bombed the hell out of the middle east during his term – you wanna call that a war crime?). Since you are a “republican” (what I see is a purist Libertarian) I’ll assume that you support our national defense, so if “enemy combatants” create a successful infiltration onto our soil because of arresting the people who are defending us, I’ll be happy to look for your idealogical white flag. The fact of the matter is that after 9-11 until the Fort Hood massacre – there was not one single terrorist act on our soil from the islamic extremists. Complain all you want, but I’ll just keep pointing out that the news from the MSM can only tell you so much truth before it starts telling you their own “truths”.
As for the right-wing movement, I have to wonder if you have experienced the TEA parties (I was at the biggest one). Seeing 10,000-16,000 angry-yet-civilized Americans expressing their distaste for government expansion and new taxes is completely different from seeing it on the “look away, and they might go away” news stations. They see it as a plague, because they have never seen people with ideals up in arms – all they remember is the 60s and 70s when the protesters were not law-abiding citizens.
As for “protecting the profiteers”, those profiteers are the scared-****less people that can’t hire anybody because the taxes coming their way will destroy those profits and it will only be followed by more of the same unemployment when those profits are destroyed by taxes. Becoming an entrepreneur typically creates debt – profit pays off debt, kapiche?
Since you dislike large governments, I’ll be nice and tell you to get your head out of the hole in the ground rather than another ******* and maybe educate yourself on just what you believe in.
You must admit that these developments mean that real reform of the health care bill is feared by the powers that be…so it must mean congress was ‘originally’ on the right track by including a public option, then later, a Medicare buy in provision.
Those options are out now, so I assume we will need to wait for another, future, US President and legislature to act on passing real health care crisis…But, it figures; but we have spent so much on financial sector bailouts, and so much on foreign wars, there is no money left for US citizens to have a good health plan to depend on. So, please vote No on the bill if it does not include provisions for quality health care reform – and public options – that includes all citizens. Frankly, I don’t want to face jail time and fines in the event that I can’t afford health insurance. Whatever happens, I’m going to remember the outcome the next time I vote.
Excellently verbalized Federal Bureaucrat Investigator! I HOPE ALL YOU THAT DRANK THE OBAMA KOOL AID REALIZE WHAT YOUVE DONE- WE TRIED TO WARN YOU!!! VOTE CORRECTLY NEXT TIME PLEASE…..
I hope commenter “Adam Smith” decides to actually read Adam Smith some day:

It’s sad that so many right wingers often never read nor even vaguely understand the economics literature that they so often misstate as being the basis for their fraudulent theories.

Howard, that took real courage. Thank and keep up the good work. Wish we had elected you!
I think all of us leftist communist ******** were willing to compromise. However thanks to liberals like Lieberman this is no compromise this is a route. Kill the Bill ? There is no Health Care Reform Bill to kill. You must mean the Health Insurance-Pharmaceutical-Anti-Abortion unconditional surrender Package – Oh yeah – let’s kill that.
Thanks Obama for dispair I never dream possible.
So let it die, alone and unwanted!

Kill the bill. Dr. Dean is right. There has to be a better way then fooling with everyones present health care plans and Medicare. We are headed towards Socialist country, where are their heads. If this passes the changes in Washington will amaze everyone. This will put alots of prsent senators and congressman out of office. The word is already out.
I see the bots are out in force on this article. Democrats have managed to fail on their own, with no leadership from Obama (Mr. Vote Present). They sold out to every fringe group, bailed on the Dem platform and are probably raking in a sweet bundle of green from the insurance/pharma industry. Some of us tried to tell you Mr. Wannabe Obama knew little and had a record of doing NOTHING other than work on getting into office. Here it is… even now, after all of his lies, the bots support him. You guys are worthy to be Bush supporters.
Howard Dean has just united the Democrat party. A lot of us (Dems)were going right but now we have Dean to bring us home.

fantastic post thank you very much for taking the time to share with those who are starting on the theme.

Cheers for the post buddy. Im going to bookmark your webpage in Spurl if thats okay…
Great Article! The proposedHealth Care Reform of 2010 is not necessary and may well be very harmful. There is a large set of options to use effectively short of gutting the system. Copying the European health care system is a terrible idea: Get the facts about the Obama’s Health Care Reform, and the Healthcare System.
