Boehner: GOP Does Have A Health Care Bill, But We Might Not Release It

The plot thickens: Turns out the GOP does have a health care bill, after all. But we may never get to see it.

I noted this morning that Roy Blunt, the chair of the House GOP Health Care Solutions Group, had seemed to suggest that Republicans would be better off politically if they didn’t release their own bill, though he later clarified this statement. Left unclear was the question of whether any such bill exists.

Now House GOP leader John Boehner has weighed in, and he has confirmed that, yes, there is such a bill — and it’s almost finished, too. As Boehner put it a little while ago: “We’re continuing to put the final touches on our bill as the Democrats are continuing to put the finishing touches on their bill.”

Neither Boehner nor his office, however, will say whether this bill will ever be released. Republicans are waiting to see what Dems do first.

A question lingers: Did Blunt know about this bill before suggesting Republicans might not release anything, or was a bill nearly completed without the knowledge of the House GOP Health Care Solutions Group’s supreme leader?

LOL! Leave it to Boehner to say something that only makes everything worse for them!

Seriosly! Talk about the king of making a bad situation worse. And the problem of course is after having done this **** with both the stimulus bill and the budget now the media is expecting the House GOP to be an EPIC FAIL yet again. And instead of just shutting the hell up Boehner tries to up expectations.

    Wow….just wow

Off topic but has anybody else heard about my fellow Tennessee alumnus Heath Shuler is supposedly also staying in the C Street apartment? It would certainly explain a lot of his votes.

And Inhofe gets honest as to the Republicans’ strategy (fine fellows, these)… http://www.worldmag.com/webextra/15584

Whether they have a bill or not, anyone who is halfway concerned with getting something done about health care or “doing nothing,” would not be carrying on the way they currently are. Any bets on if this one has numbers in it?

Dems should demand that the GOP twitter their plan. I doubt it needs more than 140 characters.

Sorry, wrong link above on Inhofe… http://thinkprogress.org/2009/07/23/inhofe-health-huge-gain/

Thanks Bernie, linked it in roundup

SG — it really is funny how this keeps repeating itself, like bad reruns.

And Dan P I wouldn’t be surprised if that one does get picked up by Dems.

You’ve got it all wrong. It’s a SECRET health care reform alternative and, if they put it out, then the terr’ists win.

I thought the reason they stalled so much was because they wanted to make sure they could eke out the best possible bill for Americans. I mean, it’s not as if they are lying to conceal their true, utterly partisan motives recently outlined by Inhofe. Surely not. This is because the democrats are so rude to them!

  12. azportsider | July 23rd, 2009 at 09:17 pm

It’ll have numbers, Chris. The reason they can’t reveal their magic bill yet is that they aren’t through making them up.

  13. oddjob | July 23rd, 2009 at 09:25 pm

if they put it out, then the terr’ists win.

Oh yes. How silly of me to forget!

I imagine the bill is tax cuts for the hospitals and insurance companies. I can’t imagine them desiring more change unless it’s tax cuts for the pharmaceutical companies.

  15. Chuck | July 24th, 2009 at 12:16 am

Looks like he gave us a hint…

“The Republican outline proposed new tax incentives for individuals and small businesses buying health insurance and would allow states, small businesses and associations to band together to offer cheaper health plans. They also promised liability reform and cutting down on “waste, fraud and abuse” in Medicaid and Medicare.”

Now I wonder how it will be deficit neutral since they set this new standard and have the country scared to spend another dollar.

  16. Chuck | July 24th, 2009 at 12:17 am

I forgot to add, we all know individuals is code word for wealthy and small businesses is code for corporations.

  17. oddjob | July 24th, 2009 at 09:23 am

    They also promised liability reform

Attacking malpractice suits again, I see. That’s their favorite healthcare hobbyhorse. It ranks right up there with voter fraud as something with which to make the base apoplectic, even though it’s not actually all that significant an issue.

Are you kidding me??? If the GOP had a plan…EVER..why didn’t they release it when Bush was in office and prior to the Dems taken over power in 2006??? They are lying obstructionists as evidenced by their behavior last evening on C-span to stall the Dems from doing the people’s business, while Boehner holds a GOP fundraiser out in DC.

Oh and btw, Heath Schuler is from North Carolina, not Tennessee and no, to my knowledge, his name has not come up.

  19. oddjob | July 24th, 2009 at 10:33 am

NC Representative Heath Shuler’s office has been asked whether he lives in the C Street residence while in DC and his spokesman states that the question will not be answered.

  20. Keith O. | July 24th, 2009 at 04:31 pm

Ahhh so that must be why Michael Steel released all those talking points about how to stall, slow down and fight the process every step of the way. They needed time to work on their “Super Sekret Plan” !

  21. Chuck | July 25th, 2009 at 03:20 pm

Tell me about this C street guys? What does that mean? Is this a conservative frat house or something.

Also, DeMint put out a plan…

  22. charles | July 26th, 2009 at 06:00 pm

bush and cheney declared it a national security secret before they left office and didn’t give obama the password.,thats why they cant release it.

  23. james | August 18th, 2009 at 11:29 am

you can read the outline, or just say silly things like the auther first claimg it may not be released then after the rep clarifies his remarks the hack says leave in question if the bill excists..come on Gommer the GOP has been working on this bill for weeks..read for a change…looks like a good bill
