Anti-Health Care Reform Group Targeting House Dem With … Cow Manure?

New frontiers in town hall anti-reform performance art, all! A leading group opposing health care reform may now target a House Dem with … cow manure, or at least pictures of cow manure.

The anti-reform group Americans for Prosperity organized a protest yesterday in the Missouri district of Dem Rep. Ike Skelton, where protestors denounced Skelton as a “coward” because he’s shelved town halls due to all the town hall hooliganism. One protester found a novel way of showing his opposition, according to a local news report

Wednesday’s rally was organized by the conservative-leaning group Americans for Prosperity, which has ties to the insurance industry. It’s the same group behind recent “Patients United” television commercials.

Robert Ryder brought in a truck of cow manure to the event.

“The only thing we’re hearing from Washington,” said Ryder. “Is really kind of a load of cow pies.”

The kicker: Americans for Prosperity, which plans to send video of the event to Skelton’s office, may include shots of the truckload of manure for Skelton’s viewing pleasure, AFP’s Missouri director, Carl Bearden, confirms to me. The idea is to convey the feelings of protesters to the Congressman, and sending along images of the cow poop “certainly could constitute that,” Bearden said.

Not a bad indicator of the level of discourse we’re dealing with here…

Greg, you are truly my hero.

    ;)

  10. sbj | August 13th, 2009 at 02:30 pm

@bernie: THAT would not be funny.

At the least you sort of have to admire the passion this guy has about the topic.

The article has this interesting bit:

“Most agreed some sort of health reform is needed. The trick, they say, is getting both sides to agree on what that should be.”

Exactly. There’s plenty we all agree on – let’s make this bipartisan.

sbj, the whole point of the post was to bait you into approving of the tactic…

    Well played, Greg.

Y’all realize that Greg is joking.

    Right?

  13. Liam | August 13th, 2009 at 02:38 pm

The pile speaks for them. It is a graphic depiction of all the talking points that they were going to utter at a town hall meeting.

  14. Tena | August 13th, 2009 at 02:45 pm

Here, sbj – think this is funny? Here’s your democracy in action:

    08.13.09 — 2:20PM // RECOMMEND RECOMMEND (12)
    On the Case

Man carrying “death to Obama” sign at Maryland town hall detained by Secret Service.

The full sign actually read: “Death To Obama, Death To Michelle And Her Two Stupid Kids”

  15. sbj | August 13th, 2009 at 02:47 pm

No, Tena, I don’t think that is funny.

A truckload of cow poop, OTOH — funny.

  16. BBQ | August 13th, 2009 at 02:47 pm

    @sbj:

“Exactly. There’s plenty we all agree on – let’s make this bipartisan.”

Ok. I’d love a bipartisan bill. Let’s do this.

You agree to a strong public option in this bill.

Democrats will guarantee NONE of the following will be in the bill: a British Health Care system, Death Panels, Coverage for Illegal Immigrants, Single Payer, Mandatory *** Changes, Government Withdrawing Money from Your Bank Account, or Euthanasia.

I’d say that’s pretty fair. And it should take care of about 99% of what’s being ‘protested’.

    So, we’re good, right?

  17. BBQ | August 13th, 2009 at 02:48 pm

    Huh, “s_e_x” is bleeped? lol.

  18. SchrodingersCat | August 13th, 2009 at 02:50 pm

C’mon, Tena. “Two stupid kids?” Where’s your sense of humor? You don’t really think he meant it, do you? Just cuz he writes a sign doesn’t mean that he holds any responsibility if someone goes out and does any such crazy thing.

There you go, all you wingnuts. Saved you some time.

  19. sbj | August 13th, 2009 at 02:52 pm

@bbq: I’d suggest looking at the Daschle/Dole outline to see what sort of compromise might be possible.

  20. Baby Hugo | August 13th, 2009 at 02:52 pm

People don’t like all the lie telling. You and your media allies have focused on alleged misrepresentations by the protesters, but the big lies that people are repelled by are coming from the lips of Obama, Pelosi, et al. Obama says he has never supported single payer but we have all seen the clips where he says the opposite. And not just the opposite, he has explained to pro-single-payer crowds how he will “get their eventually” even though he can’t get it passed openly. As that dingbat Claire McCaskill learned the other day, the message is “we don’t trust you.”

  21. Tena | August 13th, 2009 at 02:58 pm

Yeah because there’s no connection between the manure and the sign.

Except there is – it’s all part of the same organized, funded, calculated campaign that is run at the core by the insurance industry.

Both things sprang from the same place.

Remember all those big Oil Revenue checks that Sarah Palin sent out to each Alaskan home:

Look at what she figured was not worth spending some of those revenues on.

  23. Liam | August 13th, 2009 at 03:09 pm

I got a laugh out of this news report from Alaska,

    http://www.mcclatchydc.com/homepage/story/73670.html

ANCHORAGE — A man walked into a Midtown bank last week, gave his name and account number to the teller and showed his ID. It was his real name and it was his own account. The ID had his picture.

Then he handed over a piece of paper — a receipt — with a note scribbled on the back.

“I have a gun. Give me all the money in your drawer.”

The FBI says the man walked out of the Alaska USA Federal Credit Union on Juneau Street with about $600.

  24. Jenn D | August 13th, 2009 at 03:13 pm

HELLO…can you believe this…in April of 2008, then Gov of Alaska Sarah Palin promoted end of life “death panels” in her Alaska Healthcare Awareness Day…Oh MY the hypocrisy…don’t these people realize there is Google on the “Internets” and the “Internet Tubes”…

Just had a lady in our store (an American who has been living in Germany for a decade) and she is utterly bemused by the present discourse here on healthcare. I asked her how she found her healthcare setup there and she said it is as close to ideal as she could hope for. She said, “I do not understand how people are so easily swayed to believe such falsehoods. I just do not understand.”

  26. Tena | August 13th, 2009 at 03:15 pm

“Democrats will guarantee NONE of the following will be in the bill: a British Health Care system, Death Panels, Coverage for Illegal Immigrants, Single Payer, Mandatory *** Changes, Government Withdrawing Money from Your Bank Account, or Euthanasia.”

You left out government funded abortions – they are not in the bill. And as I understand it – end of life counseling has been withdrawn.

Thank you, crazies. One of the more valuable provisions – out because the entire country has to dance the crazy dance with you.

  27. oddjob | August 13th, 2009 at 03:24 pm

I asked her how she found her healthcare setup there and she said it is as close to ideal as she could hope for.

Years ago I heard the same from an Iranian college student who had grown up in Germany (but was attending college in the Boston area).

  28. oddjob | August 13th, 2009 at 03:25 pm

Meanwhile we have to endure idiots like Baby Hugo prattling bullshit as if it was the very words of God.

  29. oddjob | August 13th, 2009 at 03:26 pm

(Oh, and if the censor kicks in the word after prattling begins with b, ends with s, and is a crude reference to feces.)

  30. Tena | August 13th, 2009 at 03:30 pm

I had a neighbor for awhile who had grown up in the Third Reich and whose stepfather was an officer on the Eastern Front. During the Bush Administration she came over purposely to tell me she was terribly worried because Hitler took over by convincing people to give up their rights for his protection and the GOP sure ran that game after 9-11 for all they were worth.

And still those of us who see this clearly, including people who KNOW because they’ve been there, are accused of everything from making things up to hurting the left by making these comparisons. I didn’t think it up – my neighbor who grew up under the Nazis told me.

  31. SchrodingersCat | August 13th, 2009 at 03:32 pm

Isn’t that strange that you can’t write s-e-x, but you can write bullshit?

  32. Tena | August 13th, 2009 at 03:40 pm

schrodinger’scat – hey, don’t complain. AT first you couldn’t post “gay.”

But yeah, S-e-x still gets me. ;)

  33. oddjob | August 13th, 2009 at 03:58 pm

(Oh, and no bullshit doesn’t end in an “s”. Don’t ever hire me as a proofreader!)

  34. Baby Hugo | August 13th, 2009 at 04:18 pm

oddjob, you aren’t enduring B.S., that is human feces: your head is still in your a-double-s.

  35. sbj | August 13th, 2009 at 04:36 pm

Yes, the level of discourse is awful. Remember Baird and brownshirts?

“Rep. Brian Baird (D-Wash.) apologized yesterday for accusing town hall protesters of “brown shirt tactics” and comparing them to a “lynch mob.”

Baird, who originally decided against holding town hall meetings because of expected protests, now says he’ll schedule some forums during the August recess.

“Frankly, I have had concerns about how we can have constructive dialogue and, unfortunately, in response to some of the things we’ve been seeing across the nation I have said some things myself that I regret,” Baird said, according to the Tacoma News Tribune.

  36. oddjob | August 13th, 2009 at 04:48 pm

About as clever a response as I would have expected.

  37. BBQ | August 13th, 2009 at 05:12 pm

    @sbj:

Your plan is to recycle a proposal from 15 yrs ago, that costs MORE than what’s being proposed right now?

    Yeah, that’s constructive.

Also, it should be noted that I got rid of almost everything that has to do with the right’s problems with this bill. In my proposal to you, I’ve solved nearly all the worries of those that are protesting, who are the rightist of the right.

And yet, you’re STILL unable to make the single concession of a public option – even though that’s ALREADY a compromise from the left.

It appears that you’re beef is purely based on unshakable ideology and craven political gamesmanship. It’s obvious that you don’t want a bipartisan solution…you want NO solution.

very accurate, good job! I do think cow manure stinks less then the **** that washington is trying to force down our throats!
an added bonus is watching the left go batpoop crazy over their own tatics being used against them. oh how sweet it is.

  40. saysmoreaboutU | August 13th, 2009 at 06:55 pm

lol you need better bait then cow poop!

oh my gosh they brought in cow poop how unmoral, evil and horrid see I told you these people were un-american, racists, selfish no good uneducated carriers of cow poop.
lol it is very clear that a true solution to fix the heathcare issues is not the priority on this blog the priority is keeping in lockstep with the DNC. you go boy!

  41. saysmoreaboutU | August 13th, 2009 at 07:22 pm

are you people unaware of the actions that were taken to create America? cow poop is mild compared to what it took to free the colonies from the King of England. You better hope your king starts reading the US constitution before more cow poop is brought out to fight the good fight.
