Another House Dem A “No” On Senate Bill; A Previous “Yes” Now Undecided
Okay, a bit more bad news for the prospects of passing the Senate bill out of the House.
Rep Frank Kratovil of Maryland, a previous No vote who was now said to be undecided, will vote No on the Senate health reform proposal, his spokesman confirms.
“He would vote against it,” the spokesman, Kevin Lawlor, says. Crucially, Kratovil would vote against the Senate bill even if there’s some kind of verbal guarantee that it would be fixed via reconciliation later, Lawlor says.
The only way Kratovil — one of the targets of a barrage of NRCC robocalls hammering the reform proposals as “dangerous” — could support the Senate bill is if it’s fixed first via reconciliation, before the House votes on it. But no one expects this to happen.
Kratovil is one of a group of lawmaekrs who voted No last time that Dem leaders had hoped to flip to Yes.
Separately, Dem Rep Kurt Schrader, a freshman in Oregon who voted Yes last time, is now unwilling to commit to supporting the Senate bill, reports The Oregonian. Schrader, too, is getting bludgeoned by the NRCC robocalls.
So where does that leave us? The math is too in flux to make any pronouncements. Bottom line: Every Dem who flips from Yes to No (as Schrader may do) must be made up for by flipping a No to Yes (as Kratovil almost certainly won’t do). Long road ahead.

Update: Kratovil is not retiring; I was thinking of someone else when I wrote that. My apologies.

First, the ‘Bama don’t lie. Just ask Joe. Second, luckily this is a really popular bill that everyone wants so Democrats don’t have to worry about voting for it.
Hey all you Libs, how do you expect to pay for your beloved bill? Not a single sane person thinks this is deficit nuetral or will reduce the deficet. How will you override all the court challenges that will come in response to this passing? Numerous states and other groups have already written the suits and are waiting to drop them should this pass. Say it won’t work? The bill is unconsititional in a lot of ways. 1. The individual mandate to purchase insurance from a private company (the congress is not authorized to make citizens buy products from private companies; 2. So you want to call this product a tax, then if the unions are exempt this does not follow the equal taxation clause; 3. Corn Husker KB and LA Pur and FL Med Adv exemption, equal taxation clause again; 4. There is a clause in this bill that states that it can not be repealed by future congresses (find that authorization in the US Constitution. This is the loonest piece of legislation I have ever heard of. Anyone defending this bill is as blind as the Dems that are pushing it, because the sane public is laughing at you trying to explain why it will be good to push the cost curve up, drive the deficit thru the roof, fail to rein in lawsuit abuse (one of the prime reasons for price increases) and to demonize the docs driving a lot of them out of business.
As an Indy, I can tell you that I will be hard pressed to ever vote DEM again, just cant trust em. A lot of People voted for a centrist pres, and he swung way to the left once elected. I did not vote for him so I feel good in my decision. There are a lot of Indys who did, and are feeling bad for the decision they made. I think a lot of them won’t ever make that mistake again. Think the publics memory is short? I can tell you for fact, mine is not. November, it is eight long months away, but I think it will be sweet!
QB, thank you for proving my point, I am obviously correct.
You don’t UNDERSTAND the difference between social policies and socialism as a political philosophy.
Nothing could be more clear.
The people who are pushing for passage of this bill seem to forget that this whole thing doesn’t kick in until after 2013. Historically, since FDR the ONLY Democratic president to serve more than one term has been Clinton (and then only because he veered towards the right after the 1994 mid-term elections). Republicans have occupied the Executive Office for many more years than the Democrats.
The way the Healthcare bill is structured, the Department of Health and Human Services is in charge of ALL healthcare decisions. Guess who APPOINTS the Secretary of HHS, who then staffs the HHS department? That’s right – the president.
Folks better think long and hard about how they feel about a Republican administration making their healthcare decisions for them before they throw all of their weight behind passage of this bill. A vote for Obamacare is a vote for future Republican administrations to decide how much healthcare you get to have.
QB called me a socialist because he doesn’t understand the difference between SOCIALISTIC POLICIES and SOCIALISM.
You don’t UNDERSTAND the difference between social policies and socialism as a political philosophy.
Will this buffonery never cease? First it was a distinction between supporting socialism and supporting “socialistic policies,” and now “socialistic policies” conveniently become “social policies.”
I call you a socialist because you advocate socialistic policies which = socialism. Stop clowning now, please.
That Wiki page is very enlightening, btw. (sarc)
Socialistic Policies = Social Policies
The fact that someone needs to explain that to you shows how absurdly ignorant you are, willfully or otherwise.
I guess since you hate the word “social” and every other iteration thereof; you must not live in a society, you must not be a socialized human being, you must not understand basic concepts of sociology, and you must not respect to the concepts of social justice.
In other words, you are a freak who is out of step with modern America and modern culture in the developed world. But we already knew that from the pattern of anti-social commentary that we read from you on a daily basis.
LOLOLOL
This is the most pathetically idiotic argument I’ve ever seen even you make, Ethan. Social = Socialistic??? ROTFLMAO
