Obama Allies Launch Ad Campaign Targeting Republican Senators

A Democratic operative just sent me the new ad that a coalition of outside groups and labor allied with the White House has just launched targeting Republican Senators and pressuring them to vote for President Obama’s stimulus package.

The ad is the first sign of what’s ahead as outside groups on both sides of the major looming policy fights ramp up, and the operative tells me it’s running in four states, targeting Senators Chuck Grassley, Judd Gregg, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski. Here’s the Iowa version targeting Grassley…

The ads will be sent widely to the press later this morning by the coalition funding them, which includes Americans United for Change, MoveOn.org Political Action, AFSCME and SEIU.

The spot shows some arresting images of the recession — chained up factories, empty warehouses — and features Obama talking about our dire economic times and his economic package, an effort to harness Obama’s popularity to push the plan at a time when Republicans are training their fire on House Dems, rather than the White House.

“Tell Senator Grassley to support the Obama plan for jobs, not the failed policies of the past,” a narrator concludes.

This ad shows that the Obama White House will be looking for help to allies that can attack foes of Obama’s agenda in more overtly political ways than he might want to. There’s also a national version of the spot.

I’m glad to see labor sticking up and helping to frame Obama’s stimulus plan, but I’d like to know why Democrats haven’t been on television in the past week to rebut the current Republican talking points. Is this abscence from the media intentional? I’d just like to have the answer to that.

Thanks for the link, Greg. I already read that report by Media Matters, but I’d like a question posed to the press aide in the Democratic leadership offices about why they haven’t sent out any Democratic spokespeople on these shows or requested to be on these shows.

Or is it just up to the media show booker who to invite and whom not to invite?

I find it amusing that FNC had the most Dems.

Again, this demonstrates Republicans put politics ahead of country. McCain’s “Country First” was only a smokescreen for fighting change.

Giving the rubs enough rope to hang themselves with.

There is something called the inverse GOP justice and infantilism law. It is in fact, one of the laws of the universe. The law is as justice is restored, acting out on the part of Republicans will become more extreme. Or put another way, as the injustices of the last 8 years are corrected and general decentness in our country is restored, certain grown white Republican men will act like little babies complete with temper tantrums, stonewalling, the silent treatment, distortions/lies, and melodramma. Unfortunately, this is the price we all have to pay for the true restoration of justice in our country. It should make for very good entertainment. Possibly as good as Blagovich.

The obvioius answer that escapes, is that there is no defense to the Republican talking points, because they were true.
This package wasn’t “stimulus” it was merely a collection of Democratic agenda spending that they cannot pass in stand-alone bills based on the merits.
15% for Infrastructure, spread out over 6 years?!?! You have GOT to be kidding.
