NRCC: The Economy Is “Robust”

According to the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Web site, the NRCC thinks the economy is “robust”…

“Thanks to Republican economic policies, the U.S. economy is robust and job creation is strong,” the site says.

The accuracy of this assertion aside, this seems newsworthy because of the larger political context here. It doesn’t seem particularly savvy, given that John McCain arguably lost the election in large part over his claim that “the fundamentals of our economy are strong.”

Update: NRCC spokesperson Ken Spain sends over a response:

“The site is currently under construction. We are looking forward to relaunching the site and fostering a discussion on how Nancy Pelosi and her Democratic colleagues’ proposal to spend their way out of this recession is absurd at best and financially ruinous at worst.”

As it happens, though, the site was updated as late as yesterday, with…a discussion of Pelosi’s economic policies.

    Too freaking funny.

Glad you got a screen grab of that. It’s going to make for some great campaign ads in 2010.

    check out the nrcc response

  3. CT Voter | January 23rd, 2009 at 03:04 pm

Shorter Ken Spain: we are still clueless.

  4. Earl Moreo | January 23rd, 2009 at 03:49 pm

The totally clueless attitude of the sight is explainable, (and therefore more laughable) when you check out its Social Security section. Tjis is a left over from the 2006 campaign. Two years and two drubbings later and the NRCC can’t think of anything better to post.

    The party of ossified ideas.

  5. BILL L | January 23rd, 2009 at 04:11 pm

These folks are real? This is unbelievable… Well it is the Republican party & they were good enough to give us ” BOOSH”& his Monster What else can i say !! Bill

Given the damage the GOP has done to this country since 1980 (Reagan), if they had any decency at all, they would crawl back under their rock and keep their lying mouths SHUT!

  7. Giopaps | January 23rd, 2009 at 04:36 pm

The economy is as robust as the 2009 Republican party.

  8. Jason | January 23rd, 2009 at 04:37 pm

The GOPers live in an alternate universe completely detached from reality.

  9. trisha | January 23rd, 2009 at 04:48 pm

They are not very fast learners….are they?
They really have some nerve bashing Democrat spending when 1) look at the national debt thanks to Bush. 2) Their man was in the charge when this economic crisis occurred. So, they bash Dems for spending money to fix the problem they created? Amazing.

    the nrcc: morons on parade

  11. SillyGit | January 23rd, 2009 at 04:55 pm

The GOP’s reality distortion field is cranked up to ludicrous.

Please run Palin/Giuliani or Giuliani/Palin in 2012, pretty please.

  12. Deanna | January 23rd, 2009 at 04:57 pm

I agree that this needs to be tagged for the elections in 2010 and 2012. I mean all one would have to do is show this and ask “Do you really think these people are mature and educated enough to lead this country?”

I like to bash Republicans too, but this one is pretty unfair. Note that this page is not even linked into their site … http://www.nrcc.org/issues/ . It was obviously written prior to the crash in September. Give me a break. Being hyperpartisan is not helpful.

    the
republican propaganda machine brought us to the point of spending trillions of $ destroying Iraq in a senseless war. Now this same machineis attempting to again use lies and deceit in an attempt to again fool the public to beliebe that the economy is sound. balderdash

  16. Christopher Flynn | January 23rd, 2009 at 06:03 pm

The economy is “robust”…especially if you’ve been hired to help deal with the unemployment sector…

TexMex, I think the link you meant was the Google cached version of http ://www.nrcc.org/issues/. In the cached version it contains short blurbs on each issue, along with a link to a page on the issue. The blurb for the economy reads:

EconomyThanks to Republican economic policies, the U.S. economy is robust and job creation is strong. Read More…

The current version of http://www.nrcc.org/issues/ is basicly empty; it doesn’t list any issues. The cached version is dated January 16, 2009, but I would assume that the NRCC deleted the content from the page only after reading Greg Sargent’s blog post.

The repubs have it half right under bush the economy
    went “Bust.”

they really do live in an alternate universe. And Obama should
not pander to them. Their policies don’t work. Period!!!

Interesting – Today ( 1/25) if you google drcc issues economy Greg’s page still pops up whereas if you use the drcc url the page is blank.

Wake Up Jeff! , Who says jump and we wriggle .What ridiculously fikkle sink or swim game have we enmeshed ourselves in as our controlling value system. Is it really capitalism or just a reach or a bridge too far into future dividend. Who triggers the days activities? What intelligience? , whose value system? Can one fikkle puppeteer stringpuller says up and off? If so what is it? Is it fair?
    Is it working!
The numbers have not changed, somebody projected and redefined them overnight magically..Now theyre accepted as that published worth or worthlessness, so we jump again..The bricks and mortar are still the same. Nothing real has changed.
Today someone (the same someone) says Wake up Jeff!,we need you to look at the new numbers and wriggle!> the new worth of the numbers has been billboarded … Were banks well go somewher else (…oh yeah! Where to Iceland?, my local council wont speculate with you anymore pal, no matter where you take the hubcaps! and thats it!)
    Jump or game over Jeff!.

Its on that basis that the pied piper has us all jumping.Todays number crunching is not consistent with cause effectaccounting, Accounting doesnt have a chance, theres no beans only futures and they are closer to the lunacy that comes out of a crystal balls parlour.
Were all copping an OUTING of this dubious network of usury puppeteers, that weve come to go to so automatically.
The new better Goverments have to in the interim patch up this well installed existing , just to avoid meltdown,

Hold on abit longer, cop a bit more daily panic press…the bank press that cries poor me bank wolf . This crash will eventually be broken and soon governments will embark on assembling new lasting better economic management, with more evironmentally sound instruments and scutiny to prevent a masterful few from hurtling economies into nonsense dissaray at will. This crashing of the financial system is a wake up call, for the removal of the former (highlighted presently) banked on powerbase that can re-define property as not property and employment as unemployment overnight.

Wake up a little more New Jeff
