Dems Hammer GOP’s New “Too Many Ideas” Strategy
Dems are opening fire on the GOP in response to our story below, which quotes Mitch McConnell’s spokesperson saying that the GOP will start attacking the Obama administration for throwing out too many ideas on the economy, with not enough cohesion.
Democratic National Committee spokesman Hari Sevugan — who uncorked some of the more colorfully hard-hitting quotes of the 2008 campaign — emails over a response amplifying the “party of no ideas” attack that Dems have been waging on the GOP:
“I guess when you have no new ideas, anything more than zero must seem overwhelming. But, if the Republican party thinks that attacking new ideas is a winning answer, they’re more out of touch than we all thought. Now is a time when we could use all the good ideas we can get — and we invite the Republican party to offer some new ones rather than playing the same old Washington games. They can start by putting out their own budget proposal.”
To be fair, McConnell’s spokesperson also said that Republicans would hit the Obama administration for lack of cohesion. But the GOPer’s hint of exasperation about the amount of ideas does seem to give Dems an opening.
Update: Rodell Mollineau, a spokesman for Harry Reid, chimes in:
If Republicans would have done a little planning of their own over the last eight years, perhaps we still wouldn’t have 138,000 troops in Iraq. Perhaps with a little planning they wouldn’t have stranded countless Americans in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Perhaps a little planning would have helped stave off the collapse of the housing sector. I know it must be hard for them to comprehend, but one day they’ll come to realize that competent proactive planning isn’t such a bad thing.

Brilliant retort from Sevugan! Always hit back twice as hard, and never, ever give ‘em an inch — unless it’s a few more inches of the political rope they’re already using to hang themselves!
Glad to see the Dems hit back quickly on this. It’s nonsense, of course, and needs to be called out as such every time they trot it out.

.
Sevugan could point to McConnell saying the Republicans would not be putting out a comprehensive alternative to the budget and Eric Cantor saying the Republicans ARE going to put out a comprehensive alternative as confusion in their own ranks. Then that opens the door to flip flopping and man on man could they have a field day with all the Republicans who complain about spending then add their own earmarks. Or who complain about the stimulus bill then tout its effects in their district. Then they could put out an attack ad and at the end they could have that clip of David Brooks describing the Republicans call for a spending freeze which Chuck Grassly just called for again as “insane”
.
I swear I should do this for a living.
note update, all. harry reid’s office is hitting this, too.
Harry Reid hits them in the gut. Not used to that from him but I LIKE IT!!!
Dang – but Reid shoulda included Naden & Blanco. Pretty sure responsiblility for Katrina was with City & State government.
Reid is just horrible. He’s as bad as bush.
Just saw Reid-spokeman Mollineau’s pushback on the disingenuous GOPers. Ow — won’t no hair grow back on that spot again! Give ‘em hell, boys and girls; unfortunately, we won’t get a turkey shoot like this every day.
Waiting for Chip Reed and Politico to write stories about how mean and partisan the Obama Admin and the Democrats have become..and in 3…2…1
One word to describe the GOP “Pathetic”. There have become the party of “losers”.
Even worse, all those plans use big words. Lots and lots of big words. They have many sentences with more than one clause. And solutions for problems that don’t involve killing people and destroying thigns. Make them stop! Make them stop! Our heads hurt!
Hey Republicans: try to keep up. This is what it looks like to actually govern a country. I know Boosh and Co. couldn’t focus on anything other than invading the wrong country, but there are people who can actually work on multiple problems and try to come up with multiple solutions. I think the GOP has become a parody of itself.
“Pretty sure responsiblility for Katrina was with City & State government. ”
You may actually find out real info rather then repeat then nonsense talking points. There was no National Guard it was over in Iraq. The governer had requested the use of other states guards and resources. Bush sat on the request for over a week. Also Katrina devasted several hundred miles and wiped out several towns btw. What kind of state has the resources to deal with several of it’s cities being wiped out? Even countries would have major issues with that and have to depend on foreign aid if they want to recover at all.
Also evacuations are not mandatory for hurricanes because it costs hundreds of millions of dollars to get everyone out of the area in time and then provide for their needs.
What the hell city can afford to pay for that not just once but multiple times a year?
New Orleans doesn’t have that many car owners plus a voluntary evacutation costs hundreds of dollars even for one person on their own. Buses forget it, they can take two days to get out of the evac area and most of the Buses in new orleans are under private ownership not state or local. Most of them don’t even work. These would be school buses btw. School Buses aren’t owned by the school system in many states they are under a private contract system.
New Orleans prior to Katrina had three voluntary evacuations in one year that didn’t result in a Hurricane death or damage to the city. So people thought this one would blow over which it actually did what failed is the levees which are a federal responibility and which the Army Corps of Enginners had been trying to get Congress and the White House under Bush to pony up several hundred million to fix the levees.
Sorry but Bush is responible for Katrina.
The Republicans and the last eight years are a good example of what happens when the “government” can’t walk and chew gum at the same time. We had Bush/Cheney focussed entirely on the war in Iraq and we ended up with the mess in Afghanistan, the economic mess, the Israeli/Palestine mess, the balance of payments mess, the toxic food and toys mess, … One would hope that they’d learned from their mistakes, but to do that takes a certain amount of analytical thought at least on the level of a chicken.
Is Sargent on Obama’s payroll? Is there any integrity? Ability to critique any aspect of Obama? Cult member? He’s like a one man Think Progress.
Why not? The Government is like a Symphony orchestra, every musician must play his instrument under the baton of a conductor to produce a coordinated tone at the same time, sometimes has to pause but only for seconds, then go altogether again. With the GOP, they can only play an instrument at time, it’s boring, they have to keep track with times it’s been a new millenium. Multi-tasking ….. oh please.
