New DNC Ad Rips GOP As Party Of Vitter And Ensign

Dems to GOP: If you say Rangel and Massa, we’ll say Vitter and Ensign.

The Democratic National Committee is going up with a tough new ad on DC cable hitting the GOP as the party of David Vitter and John Ensign — a response to an earlier RNC spot targeting Dems over Charlie Rangel and Eric Massa:

The earlier RNC ad, which also ran on DC cable, hit Dems over Rangel and Massa by accusing Dems of failing to live up to their promise to preside over “the most ethical Congress in history.”

This new ad responds by blasting GOP Senators as “a caucus wracked by scandal,” citing Ensign’s scandals and hitting Vitter for “prostiution” and for “violating his vows to his family.”

The ad seems designed to put Republicans on notice that if they use the Rangel/Massa stories as ammunition, the Dems will respond with a howitzer blast. The spot implicitly invites Beltway insiders and media figures to make the comparison — and to call it one way or the other.

  • More of this please.

  • Old news. And again, is the claim that Massa is getting more attention than Foley did? That is laughable.

And you should be careful what you wish for: at the rate this debacle is going in Congress you will soon be wishing for more coverage of tickle parties. It would help “hide the decline”, as your religious leaders like to say.

  • Ensign is being investigated by the F.B.I.

So his scandal is criminal in nature. Should be reported as such going fw.

  • While we’re on the topic of UNETHICAL REPUBLICANS, this is pretty funny/sad (@tpm):

Former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, a Republican candidate for governor in California, was recently caught staging a town hall meeting and asking attendees for “lots of cheering” when the cameras started rolling.

At the event, in Orange County, CA, Whitman was caught on video telling the crowd: “You’re an integral part of this, lots of cheering would be good.”

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_t3kSLSBBHs

  • Pretty indicative that once Massa was going to get caught he jumped to the GOP News Network and was courted by various conservatives.

Any examples of a scandal-plagued Repub who jumped to the Dems come to mind?

Ahh, the GOP: the default party for criminals.

  • This is running in DC – only in DC?

Greg, you need to get out of the Village for awhile.

  • The BBQ Chicken Madness | March 12, 2010 at 02:54 pm

I don’t know why they use half-a**ed music and a soft female voice…they could have made the emotional impact much stronger. But other than that, good hard-hitting content.

  • This is off topic, but here’s Grayson’s post re his medicare buy in with a link to sign the petition.

“And to the right-wing loons who call it socialism, we say, “if you want to be a slave to the insurance companies, that’s fine. If you want 30% of your premiums to go to ‘administrative costs’ and billion-dollar bonuses for insurance CEOs who figure out new and creative ways to deny you the care you need to stay healthy and alive, that’s fine. But don’t you try to dictate to me that I can’t have a public option!”

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rep-alan-grayson/hr-4789-the-public-option_b_496977.html

  • “You’re an integral part of this, lots of cheering would be good.”

Pretty pathetic when you gotta tell the audience to cheer.

  • Oh thank God they’ve decided to highlight these jokers since its apparent the GOP will be reluctant to paint Dems as corrupt.

Not only are the Republicans more corrupt and greater liars to the public and their families, they decide to support their colleagues by allowing them to continue to serve in their positions, even when Federal investigations into their actions are going on.

I still won’t be surprised when Vitter gets implicated in the death of the DC madam, who was supporting his diaper wearing hooker habit.

  • …will NOT be reluctant…

Is what I meant to say.

  • every dem should be demanding Ensign resign. he abused
his office to pay off the husband of his mistress
    and buy his silence.

  • This really ought to be the subject of the next DNC ad:

In an election-year appeal to voters frustrated with Washington, House Republicans promised Thursday not to stuff any of this year’s spending bills with pet projects for their districts. (snip) Before anyone gets too impressed, though, it’s worth paying attention to the fine print. The House GOP ban is for the rest of 2010. Rep. Jerry Lewis (R-Calif.), the ranking Republican on the House Appropriations committee, told reporters the caucus’s move was “only temporary.” Rep. Steven LaTourette (R-Ohio) conceded that the so-called ban is “all about November,” in apparent reference to the midterm elections.

  • lmsinca Thanks for the Grayson link. I just signed on and signed his petition. I love Grayson’s plain talk, no hyperbole..it’s like the old Jack Webb character on Dragnet…Just the facts mam…

  • Finally a good DNC ad. That’s the best they’ve ever done

  • You’re right sue. I read that over at Washington Monthly.

It’s apparent Republicans are only pandering to voters in an election year.

Just another example of their contempt of their voters and little to no adherence to their facade of fiscal responsibility they claim to have.

  • “Old news.”

    Translation: This is effective.

  • Maddow had a thing on the “abstaining from pork” GOPers: the sponsors had over $240 million in earmarks in the last year or so (if memory serves).

It’s like when Otis the drunk locks himself in the Mayberry jail.

  • Yes yes, more of this please.

Really the question everybody should be asking is why didn’t the DNC put this ad out BEFORE the GOP put up the one with Massa and Rangel? Im damned tired of playing defense all the time. Just once can Democrats try to create the narrative instead of just reacting to it?

  • Rep. Steven LaTourette (R-Ohio) conceded that the so-called ban is “all about November,” in apparent reference to the midterm elections.

    HAHAHA!

    WHATTA FRAUD.

When is the media going to put 2 and 2 together?

  • Oh and I don’t know if its showing here on a regular basis but MSNBC just showed this ad on their news broadcast

  • BG:
“It’s like when Otis the drunk locks himself in the Mayberry jail.”

haha exactly. The DNC should use that in a video.

  • Posting this on behalf of Harry Reid. He’s had a tough go of things this year, and especially lately with HCR and his wife and daughter getting into that horrible accident.

But Reid played the role of recruiter, drawing on his work with the industry. He was recently named National Solar Energy Champion of the year by the Solar Energy Industries Association and has introduced important renewable energy legislation.

Anyway, turns out that Reid’s efforts single-handedly landed a wind turbine manufacturing facility in Nevada, creating 1,000 permanent jobs.

Reid’s courting of U.S. Renewable Energy Group and A-Power was key to the state getting this facility, several parties close to the decision said.

“This development is being sited here because of Harry Reid’s commitment to Nevada and to green energy,” said Bruce Deifik, president of The Greenspun Corporation. “Developing the renewable energy industry in Nevada is a dream of his, and he’s worked hard to make this first step toward realizing that dream.”

Way to go Harry! Awesome stuff.

  • omg, i messed that up sorry.

  • Nice to see someone posting props for Harry REid for a change, Ethan.

    :)

  • He’s got a bad rap. And a tough tough job. But he does things for the side of good, quietly. Truly he is deserving of praise in my book.

  • This, on the other hand, is ******* pathetic:

Republicans going after Boys & Girls Clubs of America b/c of executive compensation

    http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2010/03/12/us/politics/AP-US-Charity-Expenses.html

Just go. the. ****. away. scumbag. Republicans.

  • Speaking of scumbag Republicans…

They now want to block bipartisan reform on immigration, because Obama and the Dems are going to use reconciliation on HCR. WHAAAA? Um, yeah:

The two senators said they gave Mr. Obama a three-page outline of the huge bill they are preparing, and they asked for his help to find additional Republican sponsors in the Senate.

But Mr. Graham, in a statement, said he had told Mr. Obama “in no uncertain terms” that the immigration debate “could come to a halt for the year” if the president moved to pass health care legislation by a method known as reconciliation, which requires a majority of 51 senators instead of 60 and would in practice require no Republican votes.

  • More OT… PEAK OIL version!

Predicting the end of oil has proven tricky and often controversial, but Kuwaiti scientists now say that global oil production will peak in 2014.

Their work represents an updated version of the famous Hubbert model, which correctly predicted in 1956 that U.S. oil reserves would peak within 20 years. Many researchers have since tried using the model to predict when worldwide oil production might peak.

Some have said production already peaked. One earlier model by Swedish researchers suggested that oil would peak sometime between 2008 and 2018. And other researchers have argued there are decades to go before oil production goes into irreversible decline. The only thing they all agree on: Oil is a finite and very valuable resource.

    [...]

For now, Kuwaiti scientists say that the world continues to consume its oil reserves at a rate of about 2.1 percent each year. They plan to continue including new data that can refine the model as time goes by.

  • Ethan, I would suggest that they see their petty threat and raise them a “we’ll find a way to do that through reconciliation too while we’re working on filibuster reform, so if you want to have a say in ANYTHING that goes on around here you’ll stop FUUUCKING us around.”

I’d do this naked in the congressional showers, but that’s how I roll.

  • Labor playing hardball: Threatening to pull support from House Dems who vote NO:

    http://theplumline.whorunsgov.com/labor/big-union-warns-dems-if-you-dont-back-reform-we-wont-back-you/

  • Yeah BG. I think the shower confrontation is a good idea. I imagine those GOPers need to take one after every caucus meeting, so they’re probably there all the time.

  • “I’d do this naked in the congressional showers, but that’s how I roll.”

    LOL

  • Btw, deep thought of the moment:

WHAT DID MCCONNELL KNOW ABOUT ENSIGN’S SORDID, CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES AND WHEN DID HE KNOW IT?

  • I wonder if the entirety of SNL will be devoted to a Massa parody this week.

  • Meet Al Gore 2.0, formerly known as the man formerly known as the former President/Founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates:

Gates spoke about his commitment to using his massive philanthropic resources (the Gates Foundation is the world’s largest) to make life better for people through public health and poverty alleviation (”vaccines and seeds” as he put it). Then he said something he’s never said before: that is it because he’s committed to improving life for the world’s vulnerable people that he now believes that climate change is the most important challenge on the planet.

Even more importantly, he acknowledged the only sensible goal, when it comes to climate emissions, is to eliminate them: we should be aiming for a civilization that produces no net emissions, and we should be aiming to live in that civilization here in the developed world by 2050.

    http://www.alternet.org/story/145694/did_bill_gates_just_give_the_most_important_climate_speech_of_the_year

  • I think it would be great if media outlets just stopped running political ads altogether. And that’s coming from someone who works in advertising.

  • “Meet Al Gore 2.0, formerly known as the man formerly known as the former President/Founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates:”

We all know the multibillionaire Gates is just a commie in disguise.

  • Definitely SD. He must be the world’s first Globalist Communist…

  • In the launch yesterday of their Earth Day Revolution for climate action, the Sierra Club and more than 40 other groups talked about the need for “Congress to finally push aside the obstruction of the polluter lobby.”

The Sunlight Foundation shed some light this week on that anti-climate action lobby and just how tightly it is woven into the fabric of Capitol Hill.

The foundation used Arkansas Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln as an example. She was one of three Senate Democrats to join Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s (R-Alaska) effort to block the EPA’s authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions under the Clean Air Act. Lincoln, chairwoman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, also opposes cap-and-trade legislation and even touts that opposition in her campaign ads.

The Sunlight Foundation took a look at lobbyists with personal ties to the congresswoman and found that at least six of Lincoln’s former staff members now lobby for interest groups with a stake in climate regulations, including oil and gas trade groups.

    http://solveclimate.com/blog/20100312/fossil-fuel-influence-surrounds-senators-ex-staffers-turn-lobbyists

Check that one out… everybody loves Sunlight.

  • You got it right: “wracked”. Better tell the DNC.

  • Good for them… I don’t think fox will play the ad but it’s good to see the Democrats take a stand on whose who.

  • I hope Halter beats the tar out of her.

  • Ditto that, BG.

  • Btw, BG, did you see Andrew Romanoff on Countdown (Maddow?) yesterday?

He looked really solid. Knew nothing about him prior to that, but he looked strong and sounded great.

  • Help Rick Perry Secede from Texas and Elect Bill White for Governor of Texas.

Visit: http://www.actblue.com/entity/fundraisers/23726 to pledge your support.

Here is Rick Perry’s record in Texas.

Education: With the State Board of Education just this week excluding women, minorities, and Latinos in Texas’ from history and social studies classes, I don’t see how Rick Perry can win.

Promoting Bigotry by Allowing State Boards and Texas’ schools to:

    • Exclude women’s achievements from classrooms studies
    • Exclude achievements by Latinos and Hispanics from classroom studies
    • Exclude achievements by blacks from classroom studies
    • Exclude achievements by Asians from classroom studies.
    • Excludes achievements by poor families (regardless of race) from classroom studies.
    • Denies that Latinos and Mexicans died in Americas wars from classroom studies

Rick Perry received millions of dollars from the vaccine makers lobby, and then like a dictator, tried to have all women, school girls and all female babies vaccinated using this deadly vaccine thoughout Texas. That vaccine was not approved by the FDA.

Healthcare: Rick Perry supports the insurance lobby that is dropping people and small businesses from their rolls. Here is Perry’s record on healthcare for Texans.

Allowing health insurance corporate fat cats to:

    • Pick and choose clients.
    • Set higher rate on pre-existing conditions.
    • Decline payment for pre-existing conditions.
    • Drop coverage “at will” on clients requiring costly care.
    • Increase premiums 12 to 40% a year.
    • Choose your doctors and hospitals.
    • Choose your care and treatments.
    • Bribe members of Congress.
    • hire high paid lobbyists and try to force all women, girls and female babies in Texas to get none FDA approved vaccines in Texas
    • Pay multi-million dollar CEO salaries.
    • Hide money in slush funds and foreign tax shelters.
    • Meetings at exotic locations around the world.
    • Fund $ billions to fight the American people.
    • Passed tort reform that limits awards to $250,000 while allowing hospitals to charge more for services and so-called defensive tests.

Contrast Perry’s record with Bill White, a fiscal conservative who has a solid record of working across party lines to accomplish the following:

    • Took on utility companies who continue to raise rates during major hurricanes.
    • Worked with statewide corporations to keep jobs in Houston
    • Foster a relationship in Houston’s medical communities to provide healthcare to millions of Texans who Perry left for dead.
    • Works with Republicans to improve Houston’s schools.
    • A religious man who will not let his personal views usurp the will of Texas’ voters.
    • Attracted large businesses and the oil industries to grow in Houston and the Gulf coast.
    • Works with minority and women’s groups to foster a safer Houston.
    • Expanded criminal justice programs that helped decrease crime rates in Houston.
    • Left Houston with no deficits (despite Perry’s and his supporters’ propaganda)
    • Improves Houston’s schools by working with families in Houston’s communities.

I am a lifelong Republican who is looking for a fine Statesman who is willing to help Rick Perry secede from Texas by voting for Bill White.

  • A CALL TO BOYCOTT FOX NEWS & WALL STREET JOURNAL’S CAMPAIGN AGAINST CHRISTIANITY

Saudi Government and Ruport Murdoch Begin Propaganda Campaign against Patriotic Christians!

The 2nd largest share holder of FOX News, the Saudi Wasabi-Islamist Government, has begun the process of attacking the Christian faith by letting their opinion makers like Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck attack our Christian Faith.

By viewing FOX News, you are supporting the Saudi Wasabeeist Government who sent the 17 Saudi hijackers to kill over 3000 people on September 11, 2001.

The goal of the Saudis as I read it years ago, was to own a major news corporation in the USA that would promote attacks against Christianity. Help stop Ruport Murdoch and his Saudi allies by boycotting FOX News, and the Wall Street Journal.

Here is the article on Fox News stance against Christianity.

Churches are now urging their members to boycott FOX News and the Wall Street Journal. Ever wonder why you never hear any criticism of the Islamists and muslim terrorists on FOX News?
