It’s The Friday Battle Of The Press Secretaries!

Hey it’s Friday, so what the heck. For those of you who don’t know about this tradition, a big showdown is looming tonight: The annual softball game between the Democratic National Committee and the Republican National Committee.

Which means it’s time for the DNC and RNC press secretaries to show off their wits and see who can uncork the funnier exercise in trash-talking in advance of tonight’s big contest.

So, without further ado, here’s RNC spokesperson Gail Gitcho:

“We are confident about the game tonight, especially since we hear the DNC team is like the stimulus package — slow, ineffective and falls way short of expectations. We fully expect their pitchers to serve up more softballs than an ABC prime-time health care special.”

Now over to DNC spokesperson Hari Sevugan, who sends over this rejoinder:

“Are there even nine Republicans left to field a team?”

You call it.

Game called on account of an anonymous hold…

RNC fails at failing. How hard is it to come up with a nice little dig for something like this in less than 100 words? I fell asleep reading it. Sevugan wins yet again.

I’d expect a filibuster by the middle of the first inning, but after asking the clerk to read the lineups, the RNC will call for a quorum call, and there won’t be five R’s on the field.

A diminhised roster, to be sure. My understanding is that either Mark Sanford or John Ensign will be pitching with Larry Craig catching. That’s the field. Anyone else will be working the ump.

Sevugan for the win. Gitcho’s trash-talk was funnier than I expected, but too wordy. Use one joke or the other, but not both. I thought republicans were supposed to be masters of the sound-bite.

Sevugan was concise, cutting & condescendingly dismissive. Dorothy Parker would approve.

Hari is great, but I have to give this one to jzap.

    Raul Sevugan is utterly incompetent.

I bet the Repubs have to pull some “libertarians” over to field a team. ;)
