It’s War: Conservative Candidate Uses Image Of Obama To Attack Moderate GOPer
Another mark of just how far to the right the GOP has moved:
Barely moments after the news broke that Governor and stimulus-supporter Charlie Crist has entered the Florida GOP primary, his conservative opponent already has a new ad attacking him — with an image of President Obama, whose performance is supported by strong majorities and by Independents.
It’s unclear where the spot’s running, but it’s remarkable that Crist’s conservative opponent, former House Speaker Marco Rubio, is already moving to capitalize on the fact that Crist is taking heat from the right for backing Obama’s stimulus package, and using the image of Obama to do it.
The spot slams Crist for supporting “trillions in reckless spending,” a reference to Obama’s agenda.
It then flashes a picture of Crist with Obama, and says: “Today, too many politicians embrace Washington’s same old broken ways — but this time, there’s a leader who won’t.” The spot is implicitly claiming that Obama represents more of the same, even though majorities say he’s brought change to Washington.
It isn’t every day that a politician seeks to turn a race into a referendum on his opponent’s support for a President with an approval rating in the 60s, but these aren’t ordinary times for today’s GOP.

I am telling you its going to be hell down here for Crist and the GOP establishment that backs him. I bet you Mike Steele doesn’t endorse him unless the numbers show him clearly winning a primary.
NRSC head Cornyn pledges to keep Senate GOOPers’ collective nose out of GOP primaries, then turns on a dime to support Crist in FL. Amusing for the irony, but not surprising.
.
Rare is the politician who can’t tell which way the wind is blowing. Less rare, though, are those who heed it. In Cornyn’s case, it seems he’s tired enough of getting hit with his own spray that he’s decided to at least try turning away from the gale before letting loose with his own yellow stream.
Hunh. In the picture of Crist and Obama, BigO seems to have his lips pursed and his eyes closed, almost as if he’s about to kiss Charlie. And the swirling motion suggests a dance. Could this be a subliminable (superluminal?) tickling of homophobia?
.
jzap, I agree that this looks to be subliminal homophobia. Even though it’s loathsome, it’s clever.

My prediction is eventually they won’t even go for the subliminal messages.
Total homophobic flame fanning, and perhaps distancing from Crist who is featured in the newly released documentary Outrage.
Rubio campaign (May 2009): “Crist approves of Obama. Vote Marco.”
Rubio campaign (Oct 2009): “Crist ‘partnered’ with Obama. Vote Marco.”
Rubio campaign (Jan 2010): “Crist f–ked Obama because he’s gay, gay, gay. Gay. Vote Marco, unless you’re one giant homo.”
Woohooo. GOP circular firing squad in Florida. Where do I buy the popcorn?
