Video of harness racing crash at Rosecroft Raceway
The Post did a brief item on the nasty crash at Rosecroft Raceway Tuesday night. Quoting the item:
Three harness-racing drivers were seriously injured Tuesday night in a pileup during a race at Rosecroft Raceway, authorities said.
None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening, according to Mark Brady, spokesman for the Prince George’s County fire and rescue department.
Brady said two of the drivers were initially unconscious and suffered possible head injuries. They were flown to a hospital by helicopter. The third, who suffered undisclosed injuries, was taken by ambulance, Brady said.
On Wednesday, the track itself issued an update, saying the crash started when a horse called Pinderonabender (driven by William Carter) “took a bad step,” causing a chain reaction that involved seven of the nine horses.
Carter, the track said, needed facial stitches and fractured three vertebrae; Donnie Russell fractured his wrist and separated his collarbone; and Justin Hite had a cracked heel and broken foot. The other four injured drivers were treated at the track, and none of the horses were injured.
Watch the above video, and marvel that the injuries weren’t worse.

Dave Feldman confirms his departure from Fox 5 on air
Dan reported it yesterday and last night it was confirmed by the man himself. Dave Feldman is leaving Fox 5.
“It’s bittersweet because I’ve been here 12 years, longer than I’ve ever worked anywhere, and you guys are all my family and I’ve loved it here at FOX 5,” Feldman said during last night’s broadcast.
He indicated that there will be more formal goodbyes next week, but he did admit that the timing of his departure is unfortunate.
“The only sad thing is RGIII is here, the Caps are doing well, the Nats are doing great,” he said. “This is a good time to be in D.C.”
Indeed.

Shelvin Mack and Chris Neild, now in beat form
Reader Jarad sent us this video in which his brother created a dance and beat around the names of Wizards guard Shelvin Mack and former Bullet Robert Pack.
When I hit play, my brain said, “Well, this is kind of dumb.” Then, at precisely the 1:10 mark, I laughed out loud and my brain said, “This is brilliant.”

Riggo goes off the grid and into the wild

Image courtesy the Sportsman ChannelWhile negotiating his final contract with the Redskins in the mid ’80s, John Riggins got to talking about the future with Jack Kent Cooke.
“What are you gonna do with the rest of your life?” the legendary owner asked the future Hall of Famer.
“I don’t know,” Riggins recalled responding. “I like to hunt and fish.”
“Oh my GOD, man, you can’t hunt and fish for the rest of your life,” Cooke answered.
“I tried it his way for a while, and it was fine,” Riggins told me this week. “But now I’m gonna go back to what I originally said.”
In other words, out of the radio studio and back into the wilderness. Last fall, if you’ll recall, Riggins was one of the harshest critics of Mike and Kyle Shanahan, repeatedly questioning the Redskins duo for their personnel moves and game management as an analyst on WTOP and MASN.
“I just see a franchise that is lost as it’s always been, it’s as lost as it’s ever been,” Riggins said in early November.
Not long after that, Riggins stopped offering Redskins commentary. In December, he posted a statement on Facebook saying, “It was getting really difficult to continue being the grumpy old man,” and “I have my limits, too.”
Riggins announced then that he would be pursuing his “true passion in life,” the great outdoors, and soon came word of a Riggins-themed outdoors show. The official press release was issued this week: Riggins will host a “celebrity-loaded” hunting and cooking show called “Riggo on the Range,” which is scheduled to begin airing on the Sportsman Channel in January.

RGIII the first to use III on his jersey

(John McDonnell/The Washington Post)The NFL changed its jersey policy for this season, paving the way for Robert Griffin III to have “Griffin III” on his nameplate. According to Uni Watch, he’ll be the first in major pro sports to do so.
Near as Uni Watch can figure, this will mark the NFL’s first instance of RNOB (that’s short for “Roman numeral on back”; you can learn more about this and other uni-specific terms in the Uni Watch Glossary). In fact, as far as Uni Watch can tell, this will be the first case of RNOB in any of the Big Four professional leagues -- NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL. Yes, several college football and basketball players, including Griffin himself, have worn RNOB at the NCAA level, but never in the pros. So Griffin is breaking some serious new ground here.Continue reading this post »
