Happy Hour Roundup: D.C. Shooter’s Novel Mentions Rahm Emanuel, “Toe Sucker” Dick Morris
* Hmmm. Looks like James von Brunn, the suspected Holocaust Museum shooter, had a frighteningly detailed knowledge of D.C. insider types such as Rahm Emanuel, Dick Morris, Bernie Nussbaum, Madeleine Albright, and many others.
TPM has posted the first six chapters of a rather twisted novel by one James von Brunn called Kill the Best Gentiles, and check out what we find beginning on page 106.
Von Brunn talks about how Bill Clinton appointed many JEWS (caps his) to positions of influence, and proceeds to rattle off lots and lots of names of obscure D.C. insiders, including all the above names and many more, and “Robert Morris,” a.k.a. the “toe sucker.” That’s Dick Morris, of course.
Special thanks to our reporter, Ian Herbert, for the catch.

* Ben Smith reports that the suspected shooter may have been targeting the Weekly Standard. But I’m not sure that “vindicates” conservatives or changes anything about retrospective criticism of the DHS report on “right wing extremists.” No one said the DHS report was talking about conservatives, except conservatives themselves. The suspected shooter is a racist, an anti-Semite (hence, perhaps, his eying of The Standard) and an anti-government zealot prone to violence — precisely the type the report was warning about.
The DHS report labels such types “right wing extremists.” But what makes them extreme, and necessary to track, is not whatever overlap there is between their views and those of right-wingers who wouldn’t dream of shooting up a museum. It’s that they draw mostly on those views, and twist them into forms that no longer fit recognizably on to the ideological spectrum, to contemplate shooting up a museum, or even to find the will to do it.
Still, what we loosely term “right wing views” did in fact appear to be the starting point for this guy, and in fairness to Ben, I don’t think he was suggesting otherwise. Either way, the fact that the attacks on DHS have now been revealed, again, to be completely bogus isn’t changed because the shooter may have targeted Jewish conservatives, too.

* Jon Chait has more on this.
* Meanwhile, some have found a way to use the shooter to tar the left.
* Sam Stein reports on a key development: Liberal group People for the American Way is ratcheting up the pressure on DHS to focus harder on right wing extremists in the wake of the shooting, which could make things awkward for a White House that wanted to leave that controversy behind.
* An important corrective from the gang at MSNBC’s First Read: Some doctors are liberal, and fully support a public health care option.
* Liz Cheney uses her seemingly endless access to the cable channels to claim that Obama’s efforts to be popular “overseas” are “troubling” to Americans. Actually, polls show majority support for Obama’s foreign policies, for his willingness to negotiate with hostile foreign powers, and for his efforts to repair America’s global image.
* And Andrew Sullivan stays on top of The Times for their endlessly contorted euphemisms for torture.

Yikes! Imagine learning that this guy mentioned you in his novel??
yep, hair-raising. what I find striking is how detailed his knowledge of such obscure insider types is.
I’ll be curious to see if this becomes a bestseller in the aftermath. I hope not. http://www.newsy.com/videos/is_hate_on_the_rise
I wondered. Did anyone ever ask John McCain if the torture that took place at Guantanamo was more intense or less intense than what he went through and does he feel it would inflict more or less pain.
Organizations like AEI and National Review do have many Jewish people. They are usually referred to as neocons rather than conservatives. Really about the only thing that separates modern American right wingers from traditional right wing groups is their support of Israel.
With all the information available on the internet, any potentially violent wacko can obtain a lot of information about those they hate to enhance target selection, location etc. Sad that good things can be used for bad purposes.
Speaking of Dick Morris, I’ve been occasionally reading his weekly column in “The Hill,” which is a giveaway paper here in the DC area.
My God, what a stinking pile of meretricious garbage! It consists almost entirely of grinding axes against Obama and the Clintons, based on no facts but rather Morris’s own feverish imagination. I’m amazed that any respectable publication would print it.
This is the guy who wrote “Condi vs. Hillary.” Has he ever gotten anything right, ever?
There seems to be equal amounts of evidence that the shooter was working with someone at the Weekly Standard as there is that he was targeting them, that is, none.
